RESIDENTIAL, COMMERCIAL AND OFFICE BUILDINGS 7th SEMESTER F14 TUTOR: prof. Algimantas Kancas

City center is vibrant as well as people who choose to live there. Proposal consists of intersecting programs, both outdoor and indoor. Main goal is to create active and open community of people.

003

Constant, daily basis interaction between residents and visitors are welcome. Bike use are proposed as residents can reach their home doors with it and park it safely in the underground parking designed both for cars and bikes.

Proposal consist of application of two concepts - lifestyle of city center and experience of it. Seeing city as a spiral which is always busy and full of action. Two historically important streets Karmelitai and Spaustuvininkai have been saved and incorporated into the complex. Additionally have been design an axis of pedestrian/ bike road slowly rising its altitude. Consequently meeting its peak at the entertainment building with a cafe on top of it. Cafeteria appears on top of the busy road with an open view towards river and Nemunas Island park.

003

Continually pedestrian road goes down and meets main shopping and entertainment center, goes inside of it and out and by the spiral movement finds its place on the ground.

Model of main shopping and entertainment building.

RE-covering 6th SEMESTER S14 TUTORS: Izabela Wieczorek, Tine Nørgaard AL! A LABORATORY / unit 2+3 D / RE-covering/ in search of RELATIONAL architecture The brief for RE-covering was to transform the abandoned nazi vacation center, Prora, into an extension to University of Arts in Berlin. Each student was to pick an art form for the proposal to house and decide on a strategy of the transformation.

Present look is from expansion and reconstruction carried out between 1952 and 1990. During that time building was used as military base for Nationale Volksarmee of the German Democratic Republic. Since 1990 different parties take participation in shaping the outlook of Prora complex. Almost a half of complex were purchased by private owners. One part belongs to Prora Zentrum and currently Berlin University of Arts plans to hold a program for their students.

Prora is located in the north part of Germany. The 4.5 kilometer complex takes its place in Rugen Island. More specifically it is in the Binz region and is the part of Baltic Sea resort.

007

Prora KDF resort was planned and partly built in between 1935-1939 to accommodate 20,000 vacationers. Therefore Prora was still under construction when Second World War started. Consequently the complex never operated as a recreation area neither as vacation resort.

rora is full of mystery and hidden stories which has never been told. The first intentions for Prora to find its place was dictated by landscape and ideal imaged of vacation resort. Now it appears in one of three layers I have named as predicted. Other two would stand as real and unpredicted. For real, one could see the only real use Prora had hold was as military base. And as for unpredicted – the huge interest for artist or so called the latest illegal inhabitants. L A N D S C A P E STRUCTURE - BODY. Artists as parasites bring their bodies to the building, attach to it, relive the surrounding and produce the new product. They also can spread, multiply, incorporate with building or each other. My chosen act of transformation stands for the idea of Parasite.

Performance is very sensitive act of art. It is happening now and as Robert Smithson said -Now it;s present of the self to itself . To experience now one have to erase the understanding of time.

faรงade Mirrors are the tool which fools public and catches its attention by possibility to reflect something which are not directly in front of us. Reflection is trace of present. The material I chose is fully reflective during the day and gets transparent during the night by artificial light inside of it. One can see through the inside the parasite and experience the surrounding of building itself and it;s landscape. You can;t find your reflection from parasite during the day. It is relation between private and public, understanding of yourself as part of performance.

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY OFFICE BUILDING 3rd SEMESTER S13 TUTORS: Edmundas Jackus, Rimas Giedraitis The main aims of the project were to analyze the principals of designing a building with specific function as well as widening the knowledge of aesthetic features of the structure. By the given brief we had to analyze the position and shape of given area - 2116,82 m2. Moreover, in order to develop a critical thinking, we tried to look at office not like an architects, but like software developers (potential clients). In this case meetings with this specialization people were to the great help.

Office building is designed with two inner courtyards which each contains existing trees. Natural fauna works as recreational zones for employees as well as a shading element. Underneath these zones water collectors are installed in purpose to collect rain water which could be reused in technical systems of building.

Centre has to contain small cafeteria, small stage for performers, technical rooms and to be shaped in a way to best use it. Initial idea was to use grid system and divide space into two floors in order to gain more use of it.

The Gibberish Machine which draws inspiration from the multilingual nature of EASA and the lack of a singular official language. The team behind the work started from the question: What can result from the abstraction of language, if meaning is omitted?. The Gibberish Machine is a fabric-clad cube which generates random text in random languages, when prodded. The un-contextual and grammatically incorrect sentences did provide some comic relief, my favourite being - Cucumber rubs bridge - .
