ABOUT ME

I am a Design and Management graduate from Parsons, The New School. By living in the heart New York city, I was automatically exposed to great opportunities of exploring the world of design in an economical and cultural way. I strongly believe that it is extremely important to know your consumer well in any kind of business. The tools of strategic management, innovation, quantitative thinking, financial management, visual communication, information design, scenario planning, and design development have guided me well towards my goal of entrepreneurship and leadership in a creative way. I have learnt a lot from my course and think I could not have had a better academic curriculum in these 3 years. I wish to make a career in Marketing, Event Planning or Public Relations. This portfolio is spread over a series of 4 books- 2D Design, Design Development, Marketing, and 3D Design and Fine Arts, which display my creative management skills.

THE BATTLE OF THE NEXUS Social networking sites have simply conquered the lives of almost every college student. During a survey, they were each asked how many social networking sites were they a part of and except one, every student had an account on one or more of the popular social networking sites. Since face book was the most popularly used site, it shown to be the closest to taking over the world. The other networks are also catching up as I have shown in the images above. They are like spaceships which are going to take over everything. The idea was to show how many social networking sites each student uses, without writing about it directly.

There is only 1 student from U.A.E. who has been immaculate from the dominance of these networks.

I thought it would be interesting to parallel these social networking sites as spaceships, which are usually considered ‘alien’ and evil, trying to take over our planet. In the same way these social networking sites are seen to be taking over most of our lives.

Persona Kit

SURYA NAMASKAR I had to design a persona kit for a person of my choice. I started off with created a profile for this persona and listing and mapping her habits and lifestyle. After that, I came up with an exercise regime that would be most helpful for her. In this process, I came across Yoga, that I thought would be the most constructive way to help her out.

OKRA PRODUCTION AND DISTRIBUTION This was a very interesting project for me. Okra is native to the Old World tropics (West Africa) and has become established in the wild in some New World tropical areas. It is believed that okra first reached the New World during the days of slave trafficking. Okra is a popular and important food worldwide. The species apparently originated in the

Ethiopian Highlands, though the manner of distribution from there is undocumented. I conducted intensive research to find out the production and distribution of the different species of okra. I also went on to illustrate each of the dishes made with okra as well.

HOW TO MAKE BHINDI (OKRA) This project continued my enthusiasm for okra. It is my favorite vegetable. So I decided to illustrate a step by step process of the okra recipe I love. It is called Bhindi in India. I made a stop motion video for this with audio that included chopping, frying and whistle blowing sounds. I also added the ticking sounds of a clock to show how much time it takes to cook. Then I went on to make a flip book of the same. These are images of some of my 50 illustrations or more that I made. The idea was to capture the essence of the recipe without using text in any way. So the illustrations had to be easy to understand- from the ingredients like the spices used to the final cooked meal.

These are images from some of the work I did while playing with type. The top right was a project when I had to take the lyrics of a song and present it in a visually appealing way without using images. Next to it was again an image I made using letters. The project was open-ended and we could make any shapes we wanted to with 6 letters of our choice. Under it was making an image, using a word this time and so I chose the word Mix and tried to make a music mixer and next to it a bowl with a mix of things. Above it is a logo I designed for my business card to show my identity as an artist. The one next to it is when I tried to show the words Stone and Tears in different ways to bring out their anonymous meaning.


VegETaBlE Basic Type

VEGETABLE This project was meant to be more of a learning exercise, when I learnt the basics of type, which we usually tend to ignore. After that we were asked to pick a vegetable and play with different font types to bring out the real essence of the vegetable. I selected a carrot. After trying numerous type faces, I decided that the best way to represent a carrot would be to bring out it’s color and shape. So on the right is the final version of what I came up with.

But most of us are a part of a larger network of people, whether it be because we’re married, work in a large office, or have a tight-knit group of friends. Who we eat with, as it turns out, has a big impact on what we eat. To ignore this influence when thinking about diets and food is a recipe for disaster. The various meals one meets over are breakfast, brunch, lunch, coffee, supper, dinner or dessert. This idea was what inspired me to work onto designing this brochure on Eating As A Social Activity. I conducted secondary and primary research for it to get statistics of eating patterns in different countries. I also went around taking pictures of friends cooking and eating in groups. The interesting fact was that I found a parallel behavior in animals as well. I did two versions of this brochure.

PATTERN AND SYMMETRY Learning how to make patterns

PATTERN MAKING We learnt how to analyze and construct the geometrical basis of patterns in nature, art and design by starting in the most basic and simplest way. We were asked to pick an alphabet each and just work off of that using techniques of rotation, spacing, repetition, alternate positioning. I picked the letter ‘g’ and after selecting a font I liked, I went on and on playing with it till I reached the pattern on the right. After that we were asked to use different color schemes to make the patterns more appealing. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and realized how much I enjoyed creating patterns. My teacher liked my designs a lot too and used them to exhibit in one of her private shows.

PATTERN MAKING It did not stop just at letters. We were now asked to use the traditional way of sketching. We could draw an animal of our choice. Then, in a grid of a 6 by 3.5 diamond piece of paper we were asked to fill up the entire space in a bi-symmetrical way. After that we photocopied this diamond to make a polygonal shape. After that we scanned in the whole polygonal shape and worked on Adobe Illustrator to clean the lines and using different color schemes, I came with the patterns you can see on the right and next two pages.

PATTERN MAKING These patterns also started with a hand drawn shape. We were asked to use a small box of 2 by 2 inches to create an a-symmetrical shape. Once we did, we scanned the shape in and worked on Illustrator to using rotation , which led me into creating the pattern on the right. In addition to using color, we used gradients to make the patterns more visually interesting.

PATTERN MAKING Employing the same technique, I just played around with numerous color schemes to make more patterns. I did these on my own, since I was so fascinated by these patterns that originated from a single shape. My teacher put these up on the school display window on the 2D design floor, which was such a emotional moment for me.

DESIGNING BOXES This project was a lot of fun for me. I really enjoy creating patterns and this one asked to use patterns on a 3D object. So after some research I found a box template that I liked worked around creating patterns that I thought would suit it. After testing some, I selected these three (on the previous page) and for my final I set up the boxes in a dramatic way using draped fabric and antique jewelry that I thought would fit well with my designs.
