Summer 2022

at GoggleWorks

At GoggleWorks, we like to engage our curiosity and ask “why?” We know that surprise and delight can come from asking questions, can open new doors and engage new opportunities. We have also learned along the way that everyone engages this curiosity for different reasons. You may be like Carol who shared about ceramics becoming her happy place: “Working in the Ceramics Studio at GoggleWorks has been a constant for me through some major life changes,” Carol shared, “from retirement to downsizing into a new home, not to mention an isolating pandemic. Working with clay is like a therapy session…I sometimes arrive stressed by ‘life,’ but getting my hands into clay clears my mind, puts me in a good mood, and satisfies my creative urges. In the end, I have a piece of art to show for it. Focusing on the material, in my case clay, requires concentration, a sense of purpose, and the satisfaction of learning a new skill. My fellow artists are all supportive and encouraging… truly the studio is my happy place!”

As we soak in the sun and celebrate this season of growth, creativity, and inspiration, we invite you to opt in and take the time to expand your horizons and find meaning in your everyday experiences.

Or you might be looking for a challenge, some way to push yourself further. Carrie shared her story of development and discovery, and how it has helped her build community to support her growing hobby: “I have found that the beginners course helped to reinforce the skills that I already had and that the intermediate course has helped me to learn new methods of working the glass,” she said. “It is very helpful learning how glass works, how the different colors require different heating/cooling times, and what I need to pay attention to in order to provide a more quality product. I am able to create pieces that I can use as gifts and eventually I will be able to sell pieces so I can pay for future classes! I truly enjoy the camaraderie and environment. It is relaxed, and I am able to learn quicker and in a more sustainable way!” Or you may just be crunched for time like Cynthia, but determined to do something for yourself to bring out your best: “It’s hard for me to find time to create,” says Cynthia, “but taking classes at GoggleWorks allows me to carve out special time in my week that’s just for me. I love meeting new people in class and learning new techniques. The classes at GoggleWorks have helped rekindle my creativity.” Being creative is not a gift, or a calling, it’s a mindset. It’s saying yes to the curiosity that asks “what if?” Now turn the page, engage your creative side, and find something that can help you bring your best self each new day. We look forward to seeing you around the studio soon, Tim Compton Artistic Director
