FOOD MARKET Year 3 // Semester 1 Location: Chow Kit, Kuala Lumpur Strolling along Tuanku Abdul Rahman Road, I was immersed in the cultural rich scenes, both of the warm and the cold side of the city. There are stories beyond the sight of the street, buzzing noise of the Chow Kit wet market was comforting, almost energizing. Contrary, the silence of homeless and helpless was deafening. This community, deserves more thoughts. Contextually, food has the ability to unfold stories in a humble language.

“Subtraction”
“Subtraction”
It is envisioned as a sequential adaptation of existing trading pattern, free and direct. Open framed structure provokes the confined modern architecture, mainly, the need for enclosures.
“Amalgamation”
Individual units morph and develop as one. It is a growth pattern.
“In-Betweens”
Interaction is direct. The intention is to create simple structure as anchor that radiates interaction outward, forming the spill out spaces.
“In-Betweens”
“Amalgamation”
“Utopia concept is ambiguous, it redefines design perceptions and objectives. It steers architecture. -Rem Koolhaas (So why not?) Its identity as an infill market place shall not be pretentious, as it adapts to the truest form of trading culture in the urban fabric of Kuala Lumpur. It endorses the current issues by responding contextually, a space which provokes renewal. This project aims to produce an architecture of place, believing that the site always have different stories to tell. It strives to strengthen the multicultural community. It is envisioned as a cityscape that grows within a city, architecturally, in the modest way. Here, the value of individuality is acknowledged, as to oppose the monotonous order of capitalism. Each stall is perceived as a unit that catalyzes changes. Interaction between dwellers at its simplest form is embraced and manipulated, to converse boldly, almost boundless. Configuration of stalls advocated spatial experience of food searching, of delicate or raw, of quiet or loud. It allows freedom for expression, nurtures growth, slowly, radiating changes within community.

FISHERY RESEARCH COMMUNITY CENTER Year 3 // Semester 2 Location: Kuala Sepetang, Perak The multiplicity of coastal town was observed, analyzed and narrated. With its rich ecological aspects, Kuala Sepetang provides a sanctuary for exploration. The locals shared their knowledge most willingly, in terms of fishing or charcoalmaking. In the presence of lack of technology, the fishing industry is deteriorating rapidly. There is an essential need for a platform, to bridge information between the locals and researchers for cultural preservation and advancement of fishing industry.

“Ideas move from person to person. Creating miracles of human creativity.” -Edward Glaeser “Listen” The design listens. It aims to blur the boundary of learning, adopting the open approach of facilitating, engaging and sustaining the fishery culture. The knowledge “bridging” concept involves outdoor exploration, handson experiments and mutual interactive sharing in a open platform with no hierarchy system. Speculations: 1. Fishermen and boatmen share traditional techniques with researchers. 2. Research team adopt, compile and acknowledge. 3. Expedition and field trips attract the tourist for outdoor learning.

ARCHITECTURAL PRACTICE
BOLT Interactive Light Installation // iLight Marina Bay 2016 Bolt, Jun Ong’s latest interactive light installation, inspired by the natural phenomenon of lightning. Tectonic structure comprises of series of geometrical modules that form a radial latticework of segments. It aims to create an interface that not only traces the nature of interweaving lightning patterns but to allow direct visceral and intangible connections, creating that ‘spark’ that is temporal, amidst of darkness. A ‘spark” that is uncertain, seemingly disappearing in the current world. The installation creates a blurred boundary, within an invincible loop, when triggered by the users.
“Bolt is ultimately the installation that celebrates the synergy between metaphor, nature, architecture and technology. It creates a dialogue amongst urban dwellers and rethinks the way we react with the physicality of light.” -Jun Ong( Leading Designer) Theme : In Praise of Shadows Curator : Randy Chan (ZARCH) & Khairuddin Hori Client : Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) Organiser : PICO Location : Marina Bay, Singapore Year : 2016 Project Team : Jun Ong, Jin Shee, Stanley Seow, Xuan Ning H’ng , Yee Thong Goh, Sunil Raj
“Planning Fabrication of structures based on calculation and material specifications in schematic drawings.
01 Axonometric Scale 1:25
“Practicing Mock-up model was constructed for codding and programming of lighting sequence. At this stage, hands-on electrical wiring and exploration of materials were emphasized. Integration of art & science.
