November "Fill the Frunk" Food Drive
Always looking for an opportunity to support those in need in our community during the holiday season, AZPCA conducted a holiday food drive to assist the Scottsdale Vista del Camino Food Bank. “Fill the Frunk” food drives have been successful in other PCA regions, and this one was no exception! Cars started showing up early at Alpio's at Troon, near Pinnacle Peak, to drop off loads of items such as canned goods, peanut butter, jelly/jam, cereal, pasta sauce, tomato sauce, and mac 'n' cheese, as well as toilet paper and paper towels, and pet food. Vista del Camino provides a variety of services to Scottsdale residents to prevent homelessness, meet the basic needs of individuals and families in crisis, relieve economic and emotional stress and assist individuals to maintain self-sufficiency. The food bank provides boxes filled with essential foods and specialty items for people experiencing homelessness. Big thanks to Alpio Barbara for the generous hospitality at his unique event venue, and for his great support for our club at this, and other AZPCA events. In addition to the food bank support, cash donations were offered in support of Alpio's preferred charity, The Society of St. Vincent de Paul.
Cars lined up early with their generous donations
Events such as these can only succeed with the help of willing Volunteers. Thanks, Remo!
Of course, at PCA events it’s not just the car
Perennial Concours winners Ray, Jim, and Jack took a break from cleaning their cars to join their PCA friends at Alpio’s to help our community.
Our generous members donated 2,586 lbs. of food and goods to Vista del Camino. According to the food bank, those donations will supplement the diet and other household needs of over 38 families. A worthy effort, and a goal to be surpassed next year!
After collection bins were secured for pickup on Monday, a number of event volunteers headed off in our Porsches on the popular route to Bartlett Lake, followed by lunch in Cave Creek. Thinking we’ll make that drive an official part of the event next year! Happy Holidays, PCAers! Not all donations came out of a Porsche’s “frunk!”
