French summer
The latest Summer trends
The eighties and nineties were a great time and when it comes to French manicures…they’re back! Whilst the French manicure has been a long time favourite, this comeback sees some upgrades to go with any Summer look this year.
Cindy Butler Nails, Mermaid Waters 0414 531 523
When the French first featured in the eighties, it was a shade of neutral with a shade of bright white. The biggest problem with this was the shade of neutral was not so neutral on all skin tones. So today there is every shade of white from soft to dramatic and neutrals to match every skin tone. The look this season is to match the neutral to your unique skin tone, to give an elongated illusion, and then drop the ‘smile line’. By dropping the line between the neutral and white, the look of the elongated nail bed exaggerates and gives the appearance of a slim and sexy silhouette.
To gain the full effect, the creamy neutral must match the client’s skin tone exactly. This is where your nail technician’s experience and advice is paramount. With the advancing technology and the elevation of gels, gel paint and gel polish combined with new tools and products has allowed for an easier application and push-wear to three plus weeks without yellowing or breaking down. This is important, a stark white tip must stay that way to appear fresh and vibrant.
Shape and length are just as important when interpreting this comeback trend for the client. Over time the French took a short square look steering away from sleek and femme. The smile line was too low, only heightening the look of a short finger or toe. Today the look has modernised by going back in time to a sleek and slender look.
This new trend, modernising an already popular look, now personalising with precise matching of skin tone, with a sexy shape can be customised with colours and patterns to really bring out mood and personality. Experiment and
GO FRENCH!
Lords of the RINGS
Turn your beloved jewellery pieces from dated and tired to timeless treasures
When someone decides to remodel a jewellery piece, there is usually a great deal of sentiment attached to the specimens to be made over. It may be a piece that belonged to a relative that may no longer be with us or something that has been given with a great deal of love. In this particular case, special clients come to us after being engaged for 10 years. Time, as it often does, slipped away and things got postponed. After buying a house and starting a family, they finally decided to tie the knot but felt the original ring needed some updating. On this occasion and after careful inspection, an upgrade was promised which would add to the original engagement ring. We sat down with the bride-to-be and listened to what she had in mind, taking careful note of what they already had in relation to diamonds and gold. Our ideas were then combined and using a CAD design we could show the couple exactly what the end result would look like.
Fine tuning is done at this stage, suggestions are offered, alterations to the design are made thus ensuring the client is completely satisfied with the final look of the ring. One specific request was that the client wanted the work performed by hand. This is craftsmanship of the highest order and involves processing the existing metal into a workable state, and then using fabrication techniques of rolling, shaping, filing, and joining the raw material to match the design required.
