TopromotethebenefitoftheinhabitantsofDownhamandHitherGreenandtheneighbourhood(hereinaftercalled ‘theareaofbenefit’)withoutdistinctionofsexorofpolitical,religious,raceorcolourorotheropinionsby associatingthelocalauthorities,voluntaryorganisationsandinhabitantsinacommonefforttoadvanceeducation andtoprovidefacilitiesintheinterestsofsocialwelfareforrecreationandleisure timeoccupationwiththeobjectof improvingtheconditionsoflifeforthesaidinhabitants

ToestablishortosecuretheestablishmentofaCommunityCentre(hereinaftercalled‘theCentre’)andtomaintain andmanage,ortoco operatewithanylocalstatutoryauthorityinthemaintenanceandmanagementofsucha CentreforactivitiespromotedbytheAssociationanditsconstituentbodiesinfurtheranceoftheaboveobjects

Significantactivities

ThislastyearinthemainhasbeenaverypositiveoneforGoldsmithsaswecontinuetoplayavitalroleinour community TheglobalCOVID 19pandemicisnotoverbut,aspublicspaceshavebeguntoopenup,wehave beendelightedthatsomanyofouroldergroups,runningactivitiesfromthecentre,havereturnedtoourspace

Wearealsosoexcitedthattherearenowfarmoreregularactivities,cateringforamorediversegroupofadults andchildrenandsomecanbeofferedfreeofchargetotheparticipants

Weknowthatlonelinessrocketedduringthepandemicandpeopleneedspaceswheretheycancometogether andsharefood,music,games,ideas,and,increasingly,awarmsafespacetospendtime

Aswellasmoreweeklyactivities,wehavealsoseenasignificantincreaseingroupsusingourlargerspacesfor occasionalcommunityevents wehavehostedBringMeSunshine,LewishamPositiveAgeingCounciland EntelchyArtsdeliveringcheerygatheringsandwelcomingusacrossthethresholdratherthantreatingusasonly thehiringagency WewerealsopartofasuccessfulArtsCouncilcollaborationwithGoldsmithsDanceAcademy, BringMeSunshineandLewishamPositiveAgeingCouncilwithawellattendedJubileeJive

Partnershipisanincreasingfocusoftheworkofourcharity during2022wehaveworkedwithnumerousother organisations,charitiesandcommunitybuildingstoshareskills,space,knowledge,expertiseand“stuff”.Ourrole inpartnershipforworkintheareahasbeenaugmentedwithcouncilfundingsinceMarch.Onefocusistheworkto supportFriendsofForsterMemorialPark,collaboratingwithPeaceofCakeandothers,e.g.rememberinglocal teacherSabinaNessaandsupportingtheparkcentenaryevents.Wewerealsopleasedtostrengthenourworkto supportLewisham'ssancturyboroughcommitments,providingstoragespacefortheresponsetotheUkranian refugeecrisis.

OneofourJewelsintheCrownfrom2020wasthe

Give A Song Project

spreadingjoythroughthepandemic.We providedaspaceandinfrastructurefromwhichlocalmusicianscouldcheerpeopleup,especiallythosewhowere isolatedduetoCOVID Theprojectgrewbeyondourwildestdreams,largelythankstotheamazingenergyofthe musiciansthemselves,andhasevolvedintoaservicewhichisfarmoreinteractivethanoriginallyenvisioned Now anindependentCommunityInterestCompany,it’sgreattoseetheirnextstepsandbuildonthemodelofhowwe supportedthemtonurtureotherlocalcreatives

ItwasgreattobeoneoftheDayOnesitesfortheLondonBoroughofCultureandtocontinuetoweavecultureinto theworkwedo,andenable,throughout2022 WehostedaPatchworkActivityinourAppletreecafeondayone theworkthenbecamepartofabroadercommunitypatchwork WesupportedTeatroVivowithspacetopractise andperformandhavehostedToughBoys,aQueerDanceCollective,asemergingcreativesinresidence Wealso welcomedthebrilliantSingABookCICtoourcentre,usingfundingtopromoteblackpeople'sinvolvementin MusicalTheatre,andhostedIntoDaEndz Morerecently,theRioFerdinandFoundationledfreeYouthProvision includesspokenwordsessionswhichhavebeenproducingamazingandthought provokingBeats,eveninthe earlydays

COVIDresponseandpublichealth WestartedtheyearwhentheCOVIDpandemicwasstill,sadly,havingahuge impactonmanyofourcommunities Wehavebeenproudtoplayourpart,hostingtheCOVIDTestingSiteuntilthe endofMarch2022andwelcomingcolleaguesfromSevenfieldsPrimaryCareNetworkfromJanuary2022,initially focussedondeliveringthevaccinationprogrammeandnowextendedtobroadercommunitywellbeingandpublic healthinitiatives

Internalandexternalfactors

2022hasalsoseensomechallenges.Likemanycharitieswhoseremitincludesmanagingoldbuildingswehave

hadwhatwethinkismorethanourfairshareofpowercuts,roofissues,drainsandoldthingsthatneedfixedor replacedtodealwith Butwearefortunatetohaveanamazingteamofvolunteers,includingourfriendsfrom DownhamMen’sGroup,tohelpusdealwithmanyoftheseproblems And,thankstoincomefromtenantsand hires,aswellasfromLewishamCouncilfunding,weareworkingthroughalistofprioritisedrepairsandbuilding improvements Ourfocusisonimprovingsecurity,disabledaccess,energyefficiencyandaddressinggeneral healthandsafetyissues,includingforourstaffaswellasusers Sadlywecannotmoveasquicklyaswewould haveliked Weanticipatethatthecurrenteconomiccrisiswillhaveasignificantimpactonmanymembersofourcommunity andwearecommitedtocontinuingtoprovideandextendourofferofaffordableandfreeactivities Weareworking withourNHSpartnerstoidentifyfundingtosupportusprovidingawarmandwelcomingspaceforourcommunity tocometogether
