n Las Vegas, there is no shortage of activities to quicken your pulse and make your hair stand on end. Begin with a Bang The best was saved for the third at Rhodes Ranch. In a matter of thirty minutes, you’ll discover why Robinson was so high on the d par 3s that he expertly placed throughout p tthis desert oasis. The signature hole, the 227-yard par-3 3rd , is ironically also the 2 tthird stroke hole. Nearly 30 professional golfers call Las Vegas home, and even those accomplished V performers would exercise p ccaution when approaching tthe water hazard guarding the entire right side of the green. Unless you’re Dustin Johnson or John Daly, don’t go reaching for a club with much loft – you’ll need a long iron or fairway wood to reach the green. Overshoot your target, and you could find yourself standing in any one of three bunkers beyond the putting surface. If you clear the water but come up short, there’s a white sand pot bunker lying in wait. A wonderfully picturesque hole is actually the devil in disguise and just the beginning at Rhodes Ranch. Don’t get the wrong impression – there are a number of risk-reward decisions to make, such as a going for it on a driveable par 4 and those terrific par 3s, but overall Rhodes Ranch is very playable. The course measures between 5,238 and 6,909 yards, and there are four different tee placements to choose from. Conditions at this Las Vegas gem range from excellent to outstanding, especially on the greens where consistency and true roll come standard. 2010 ISSUE 2

Putting Priority Tip #1 – Ability To See Line

W
hat is more important; reading h d the h green or seeing the line? Reading the break and speed of the green is a critical aspect of making more putts, but if you cannot consistently see the line you intend the ball to roll on, made putts are more accident than skill. In order to accurately see line, you must first establish exactly where your eye-line is. A simple test to determine your eye-line is to draw a circle around the entire golf ball, and approximately 18”-24” from the ball, set a long white tee between the ball and your target. From behind the ball, use a laser and position the line on the ball and the tee so they are in perfect alignment. Stand over the ball as you would normally, and then slowly move your head forward and back until your eye-line matches the line on the ball and the laser on the tee. PGA Tour players range between ½”to 9” inside the ball with the average being 1”to 1 ½” inside. Where is your ideal eye-line? Once you establish where you accurately see the line, you have made one of the most important steps required to hole more putts. Then it’s time to work on your alignment, stroke path, impact, tempo and speed.
