A lot of clubs bill themselves as a country club for a day, but Moselem Springs is just that for those who play the almost 7,000-yard course (from the tips), which plays to a par of 70. Five golf-obsessed Monmouth county residents got together during the 2020-2021 lockdown and brought their collective experiences-mini-tour events, a president of a prominent local club, a former local club champion included among the group--and asked themselves just how hungry for golf their friends, co-workers, and family were. They got their answer and thus Tee 2 Green was launched. “With nearly every local club on a wait list, and the fine local county courses busting at the seams, the answer became obvious,” said one of the `five’, Tom Brewer. “After nearly two years of finding the perfect place, planning, and building, Tee 2 Green is fully expected to open in September 2022.”

The owners of the club and course, the Jaindl family, a preeminent agriculture/development company, and KemperSports Management have partnered to deliver a “Best in Class” customer experience from the golf to an upscale food and beverage services, including weddings, social events and the Wild Turkey Grill.

There has been lot going on at Twin Lakes. On the course, 400 trees have been removed and the remaining trees have been limbed up. Additionally, a continuous cart path has been added throughout the course, and all bunkers have received a facelift with fresh sand.

With an 1,800-square-foot indoor short game area, a SAM putting lab, golf shop, golf professionals on site for lessons and clinics, a golf library (real books), free play Golden Tee and clas sic video games, ping pong, cornhole, and BYOB. Tee 2 Green promises to be the ulti mate and complete setup for indoor golf for all skill levels and ages, and a perfect place for a private or corporate event.

The partners all bring a love for the game and a certain expertise to this venture. Brett Flynn is the president of Rumson Country Club and serves as treasurer. Mike Jacobs, who is CEO, has been the general contractor on the build out. Keith Casella is secretary and a scratch golfer/club champ. Bill Beausoleil is a partner and the driving force behind get ting Tee 2 Green off the ground. And Brewer is president and will serve as general man ager. Brewer believes Tee 2 Green’s size, technol ogy, and staff sets it apart from other practice facilities. “We are in a massive space, allowing us the luxury of having two indoor greens and mega-sized simulators. In fact, you can have a mega pint in our oversized mega hitting bays as we are BYOB. Our competitors are generally in smaller spaces and can’t offer chipping and put ting, putter fittings using the SAM Putting Lab, free play Golden Tee and classic video games, a golf library, lounges, and club storage. We have the space for events as large several hundred people. That is not happening at any of the other indoor facilities in the area. Want to just hear some amazing stories about golf? Come talk to me. I’ve been around the golf business for 30 years (started caddying at age 12) and have many experiences with famous professional golfers and celebrities of all sorts.”

“I believe we will offer the most fun, tech nologically advanced, interactive indoor golf facility available with the friendliest staff you’ve ever met,” said Brewer. “When I was a touring golfer, I often dreamed of having all the equip ment we have. The second hole is a 174-yard par-three that demands a well struck mid-iron and the third a 362-yard par-four. The fourth and fifth are uncomplicated par-fours that measure 362 and 354 yards respectively.

The fifth hole is a 456-yard par-five that is reachable in two shots for big hitters and the sixth, a 170-yard par-three, is the first of several “water holes” you will face during your round. It’s a tee-shot-over-water, par-three that is pretty in addition to being a don’t-leaveyour-tee-shot short situation.

The Club at Twin Lakes

Twin Lakes’ 6,075-yard, par-71 layout from the back markers features four sets of tees for players of varying experience, and sloping fairways. It isn’t a course that will beat you up with distance, but several of the holes have water and there are a number of sand bunkers guarding the medium-sized greens. There are four sets of tees in all with the “white” tees playing 5,723 yards, the next tees down 5,159 yards and the forward tees 4,712 yards.

Twin Lakes offers a “Super Twilight” rate that goes into effect at 5:30 p.m. every day, the perfect way to save on greens and cart fees and enjoy 9 or 18 after the peak temperature of the day has passed. Beers said, “We aren’t currently offering specials, but we are offering our loyalty programs, Players Pass, which includes the following benefits: a 14-day advance booking window, early twilight rates, complimentary Adidas Tech Response shoes, a merchandise discount of 10 percent, discounted range balls, every sixth round of golf free (cart fee not included) for $199. The club’s Players Pass + offers the above benefits and two complimentary rounds at Moselem Springs Golf Club for only $299. Both programs are valid until the end of 2022.

At Twin Lakes, before you even make it to the first tee, you’ll be greeted by friendly, kind team members, to make certain you begin your round excited and ready to play. Once you make it on `the track’, you’ll see an array of different holes, ranging from gettable parfours, challenging par-threes and breathtaking views of the Lehigh Valley on the par-fives. Most of our consistent play is generated right here in the Lehigh Valley and neighboring areas, but we have gotten quite the mix already in our first season from various destinations along the East Coast as well as nationally.”

The 16th is a great par-four that plays 413 yards. There’s a stream on the left side of the fairway landing area that winds its way to the green, wrapping in front of the putting surface. The approach shot must be hit well because it’s a carry across the stream on your second shot.

The 17th is a short, 293-yard par-four that begs to have its green hit off tee. The finisher is a par-three that plays 189 yards with the tee shot crossing water. The green on the 18th protected by a bunker and water off its back left side. It’s a nice way to finish a round on this shot maker’s layout. Theapproacheseighthis a sharp contrast to the previous hole and 100 yards longer than the seventh, playing 429 yards and a hole that Beers views as the most difficult on the course. The ninth is a 528-yard par-five that is best played as a three-shots-to-the-green hole. Two good swings will leave you with a wedge or nine-iron into a modest-sized green flanked in the front by sand bunkers. The back side has five holes that have water features, beginning with the 177-yard 10th, where you will have to stay away from a stream the winds in front of the putting surface and to its right side. The 11th is a 428-yard parfour where the tee shot must be hit over water, although the wet stuff is easy to clear being close to the tee box. The green on the 11th is surrounded by bunkers making the approach shot critical to have a shot at birdie or a par. The 12th is a 459-yard par-five, whose green is difficult to reach in two because the hole bends sharply to the right at its midpoint. Unless you hug the extreme left side of the fairway you will be blocked out to the green on your second shot, but you have with a nosweat second to set up a wedge into the putting surface. The 13th is a nice little, 144-yard par-three where accuracy off the tee is a must. There are three bunkers guarding the green. The 14th is a straight-away par-four that measures a little under 400 yards from the tips. The 15th is a 428-yard par-four that has a stream cutting across the fairway about two thirds of the way to the green. It’s a layup short of the stream and then likely a long-iron into the putting surface.

A lot of clubs bill themselves as a country club for a day, but Moselem Springs is just that for those who play the almost 7,000-yard course (from the tips), which plays to a par of 70. The club was owned by the Flippin fam ily since the early 1960’s and was sold to Jaindl Farms (a major agricultural/develop ment company in Lehigh Valley) this year and is now managed by Kemper Sports. “We have seen steady play again this season as golf has experienced a resurgence the last few years,” reported Head Golf Professional, Brett Nelson. “The golf course has been in great shape all year and the members have been enjoyingNelsonit.” continued, “Moselem Springs is a very scenic and serene golf course, so it feels like a getaway for members and guests while challenging all levels of golfers. Our local members range from Reading to Allentown, while our non-resident members come from all around us, many from Philadelphia and New Jersey areas. Moselem has a traditional layout with difficult greens. It was a tree-lined course for many years but recent tree removal has opened up sight lines to many holes.”

After a visit from Tom Fazio recent ly, the club announced that new improve ments are coming to Moselem Springs. Fazio visited Moselem Springs and its sis ter course, The Club at Twin Lakes, with a vision for the future of the Jaindl Familyowned courses. While visit ing Moselem Springs, a course he helped his uncle George Fazio build as a teen ager, Fazio discussed a master plan for the golf course. Upgrades to be made with in the clubhouse start with an enhanced member dining experi ence. This includes comfortable lounge seating added to the lobby, and additional televisions installed JOHN TORSIELLO

After thor ough examination of the golf course, improve ments under the direction of Fazio will include softening (lessening the slope) of a few back nine greens this fall, and additional tree plant ing to better camouflage the clubhouse and the parking area. Forward and senior tees are also in review for potential renovation.

The 13th is a very long par-three, playing 228 yards, and has most players hitting a 3- or 5-wood off the tee. The 14th is a straightaway, tough par-four playing almost 450 yards from the champion ship markers. The 15th is a rather short, 165yard par-three, but bunkers guard the front of the green, making proper club selection a must.

The 401-yard par-four first hole is, of course, a slight dogleg right that is otherwise fairly uncomplicated. The second is also a slight dogleg right that plays 405 yards from the tips. The third hole is a strong par-three, playing 193 yards. The fourth hole plays lightly downhill with the straightaway parfour measuring just under 400 yards. The fifth is another par-three that plays almost 200 yards and features a tee shot over water to a green that is heavily bunkered. The sixth hole is a slight dogleg left, a 412yard par-four that sets you up for the seventh, a rather short par-five that is one of only two long holes on the course. It can be reached in two by the big hitters if you put your tee shot on this dogleg right at or around the bend of the fairway.Theeighth is a very strong,474-yard parfour where two solid shots are a must to get to the green, and the ninth is a shorter par-four playing 371, but there is a stream that runs along the left side. The 10th is a par-four of around 400 yards, which leads to the 11th, another dogleg right hole off the tee.

The round concludes with three par-fours, the first and second of which play around 400 yards. The 18th is around 450 yards from the back and has a stream on the right running all the way to the green. It’s a real pretty finale and recording a par will make the food and beverag es taste better in the clubhouse after your round. An indication of the strength of Moselem Springs is its slope and rating; 136 from and 73.1 respectively from the back tees that total 6,826 yards. The next tees down play 6,580 yards and plays to a slope of 132, while the third markers down measure 6,056 yards and have a slope of 128. The forward tees play 5.766 yards, have a slope of 124, and a rating of 67.4. The practice facili ties at Moselem Springs Golf Club feature a large putting green, a driving range and a short game specialty area. The driv ing range tee affords the player a chance to hit a few balls and loosen up before play because of its nearby location to the first tee. A short game specialty area lets the player to be creative by using approach areas, and a practice put ting green is also located close to the first tee. It is a good test before you start your round as it is fast, and has undulation which creates breaking putts that you will find on the course. Complimentary range balls are available at the driving range and short game specialty area. The course at Moselem Springs Golf Club has several sets of tees that offer a playable and enjoyable round for all levels of golfers, including juniors and beginners. The course was the vision of Hawley Quier, former pub lisher of the Reading Eagle newspaper in Reading, Pa., who came from a golfing family. In Quier’s words, “Some years ago, on what must have been the hottest day of that summer, I sought relief for mind and spirit in the spring-fed pond on what was termed the ‘family farm’ at Moselem Springs. Moments later, raising my head from the surface of the water, I recall, vividly looking over the terrain and saying to myself, ‘What a wonderful natural setting for a golf course!’”Quier’s daydream came true with skillful planning, design, and Ifconstruction.youarea fader of the ball off the tee it will serve you well at Moselem Springs, as a number of holes trend that way from tee to green. But, there are several doglegs left that will necessitate you draw the ball, or at least bend it a tad to the left off the tee box.

The 12th is a dogleg left, 506-yard parfive that has bunkers you must avoid. If you hit it long the green on 12 can be reached in two to set up an eagle or birdie opportunity.

A primary way in which golf simula tors have been most revolutionary is in golf fitness at gyms like Somers Point’s Golf Specific Fitness gym, or GSF, where owner and trainer Aaron Bada utilizes the top technology of two different golf simulators to develop personalized physical therapy and workout programs for Atlantic City area“Wegolfers.mainly use our simulators as a way to understand the players swing tenden cies,” said Bada. “Technology such as TrackMan & GC Quad allow us to better understand swing directions, club paths, and many other factors that we use in con junction with our fitness programs.”

“My boys thought of the idea during the middle of Covid when the local golf courses were temporarily shut down,” said 3G Golf owner John Yates. “They asked if we can get a simulator at the house and as much I wanted to say yes- it wasn’t the best idea at the “Atime.couple months later one of my sons mentioned what if we created a business in town where we had a few golf simulators that people could rent out by time. My wife had also worked in many of the retail shops in town and had always wanted to open a men’s oriented retail store in town and we felt as if the men’s retail shop and golf simu lators were the perfect match!”

“We offer the only side by side GSF Golf Performance Zone of TRACKMAN & Foresight Quad giving our members the benefit of accurate data using the top tech nology in today’s game. We can link certain physical limitations to swing characteristics and use the data to allow the client to understand how to fix things.”“All our members understand how all our simulator technology data can be changed to achieve any swing changes they may be working on.”

Taking its cue from the PGA and LPGA Tours where the home use and field use golf simulators and launch monitors have improved play of the top players in the world, golf clubs and golf businesses of vary ing kinds are using golf simulators in ways maybe not even thought of even as recently as only five years ago.

Whether it is for physical therapy, golf instruction, or just plain entertainment, golf simulators are just about everywhere.

“Since then we have been overwhelmed with the amount of support we have received from the local communities. 3G hasn’t just been a place for the avid golfer- we do les sons, leagues, weekly contests, Monmouth University offseason workouts, Point Beach High School practices- but also for the rec reational and early stage golfers- date nights, birthday parties, bachelor parties, family reunions, etc.

“We hope, in the coming years, that 3G continues to grow and we continue to cater to what’s most important to us- what our patrons and loyal customers enjoy mosthaving fun and playing golf.” by Sean Fawcett

3G Golf in Point Pleasant Beach is using its golf simulator technology to teach golf lessons and entertain its northern Ocean County and southern Monmouth county patrons. Recently opened, this home-grown and family run simulator and golf equip ment business is a main training center for the Monmouth University golf teams and Point Pleasant high schools with a profes sional staff on site to promote and grow the game with lessons and leagues.

Everywhere you look these days, it seems, there are golf simulators.

Increased traction, more tackiness, better performance in wet weather, comfort, less tension in your hands result in smoother swings. New grips will provide all of these attributes.

Stop and think about it for a minute; the grip is the only part of the club a golfer touches during the swing. Replacing grips at the start of the season allows golfers to hold the grip with minimal grip pressure. This lets golfers swing the club properly. You can’t do this with grips that are glazed, hard, and slick.Bad stuff can happen with worn grips; there’s slippage of the hands, which promotes off-center strikes and of the ball. Worn grips do not provide the proper traction, thus a golfer will likely squeeze the club tighter in order to maintain control.

How do you know when to change grips? Simple look at the grip; if it is shiny or has a glazed appearance it needs to be changed. Also, does the grip show visible wear spots or does the material appeared cracked or split?

There is perhaps no more neglected facet of a recre ational golfer’s equipment than the grip on a club. Players will talk about and pur chase a set of irons, a putter and golf balls with regularity. But grips? Well, they just get passed over. But they are. Most players neglect their grips until they become worn and slippery.

Consider how often you use your grips. Club fitters in general say change the grips every 40 rounds or once a year. The grip is made of comfortable rubberlike materials. Grips, with the exception of those found on putters, must have a circular cross-section, while the putter is allowed to have any cross section that is symmetrical throughout the length of the grip. There are a range of different grips, from thick-to thin-based.GetGripped LLC opened four years ago at Twin Brook Golf Center. Ocean City, Maryland is known for lots and lots of great golf, and one of its very best golf courses you must play is Eagle’s Landing Golf Course. Pretty and picturesque, Eagle’s Landing in Berlin, Maryland is a well-maintained and memorable track featuring a mixture of park land and links styled holes that you’ll want to play over and over again and year after year. A beautiful seaside golfing paradise with eye-popping, and sweeping, vistas of land, water and sky, Eagle’s Landing Golf Course is a challenging, but fair, 18 holes overlooking the serene Sinepuxent Bay and the unspoiled beauty of Assateague Island NationalHighlightedSeashore.by several risk-reward holes, including a pair of possible drive-able Par 4s, two of my favorite holes go back-to-back with the tricky Par 4 Sixth Hole followed by the dramatic Par 5 Seventh right across the street. Both dogleg lefts, the Par 4 Sixth only plays to about 350 yards from the White Tees, but demands and accurate drive to a bending fairway over water. The more of the water you cut off, the shorter the approach will be, but beware of twin traps guarding the far side of the fairway about a hundred yards from the middle of the green. A daunting Par 5, The Seventh demands accuracy off the tee as well, and distance depending upon where you tee off from, in order to clear the corner and have a clear go for the green or a strate gic, and probably prudent, lay up short of the marsh to play a 3rd shot to a green encircled by out-of-bounds.Eagle’sLanding’s signature hole is the short, but fierce, Par 4 Eighteenth. Playing at about 330 yards, Eagle’s tight Closing Hole dares the golfer have to decide to lay up to a narrow, sloping fairway200 to 150 yards from the pin or carry marsh and water some 250 yards, or more, to the fairway short and in front of the putting surface.

play Golfing Magazine • New Jersey/E.

“Hole 18, known as the “Beast of the East”, is Eagle’s Landing’s signature hole,” said Eagle’s Landing’s head PGA Professional, Bob Croll. “ The finishing par 4 measures a modest 393 yards from the tips. Most golfers will play this hole from 322-352 yards. Not a long par 4 but a small fairway and lots of marshland make this hole the “Beast” that it is.“Driver is not the option to start this hole because marshland bisects the fairway at 135 yards from the green and safe green grass doesn’t appear again until 20 yards short of the putting surface. The play here is to tee off with the club that would have reached the middle of the green on the par three 17th hole. A dry landing will leave an approach of 155-165 yards to a green bordered by trees/ marsh right, left and long. A par here will make your day even if you were dissatisfied with your play on the first 17 holes.”

A terrific and most memorable round of golf is just a short drive away in Ocean City, Maryland at Eagle’s Landing Golf Course. Go and play today, or as soon as you can.

Featuring a classic early 20th Century parkland layout, Seaview Pines is both thrill ing and playable with a wonderful mixing of short and long holes requiring power and accuracy.“The 1942 PGA Championship was played on both The Bay and The Pines,” said Seaview’s TROON Golf’s Director of Golf Alex McGann. “ It was a match-play event back then and it was played on The Bay’s Front Nine and the first and second holes, and most of the Back Nine, of the Pines.

“ Snead won his final match versus Jim Turnesa with what some called a miraculous chip-in from about 60 feet. The chip hap pened right of the green and close to the 15th tee Playedbox.”today as part of the LPGA’s ShopRite Classic’s Pro-Am, Seaview’s Pines Course is rare opportunity for any player anytime to golf where the top professional ladies in the world play annually and where maybe the greatest of them all, Sam Snead, played and won.

There are lots of places with good park land golf courses to go and play, but if you’re at The Jersey Shore, Atlantis and Seaview Pines are two of the very best that you’ll want to go and play today or any other day

A plaque, commemorating Slammin’ Sammy’s early career milestone adorns the 16th tee box to this day, and plans to put a marker right of the green from about where Snead pitched in are in motion, as well.

Great Parkland Golf at The Shore must play

By Sean Fawcett Golfing Magazine • New Jersey/E. Pennsylvania Section

“Atlantis is a hidden jewel in south ern New Jersey,” said Atlantis’ Golf Shop Manager Sharon Witkowski. “ Although our course is challenging, our entire staff takes great pride in knowing that their level of service brings our visitors back again and again.”Seaview Country Club brings golfers from around the world back again and again and boasts one of the other very best, and must-play, parkland golf courses around, the Seaview Pines Course. Designed by famed architects William Flynn and Howard Toomey, and opened in 1929, Seaview Pines has a hallowed place in golf history, and legend, being part of the 1942 PGA Championship where World Golf Hall of Famer Sam Snead, “The Slammer”, aka “Slammin’ Sammy”, won, his first ever major championship.Snead’shistoric major title triumph con cluded on the Pines’ 1st, 2nd and 12th through 18th holes with Snead almost unbe lievably chipping in from approximately 60 feet on The Pines’ long 200-yard Par 3 16th hole to down Jim Turnesa 2&1.

One of the top parkland courses to tee it up at the Shore is, literally, a park. A countyrun course since the late 1980s, Atlantis Golf Course, part of The Ocean County Parks and Recreation system, Atlantis opened in the early 60s as a private country club designed by 1960 Merion US Open runnerup to Ben Hogan, George Fazio. Located in Mystic Islands, near Tuckerton, and just minutes from Long Beach Island, Atlantis features several very memorable, and funto-play, holes like its signature par three 6th modeled after the more famous, and some times infamous, #12 at Augusta National.

If you’re looking to play some great park land golf courses, the Jersey Shore has two of the very best.

Just like “Golden Bell”, Atlantis’ challenging 6th plays left to right over water and a mas sive sand trap to a narrow, sloping green. Playing at right around 145yards, players get to try their skill, and nerve, playing a par 3 just like the very best in the world get to do two to four times every April at The Masters.

Highlights on the Back Nine include two of Atlantis’ par fives, 14 and 17. The second, #17, plays to a dogleg to the right with a small pond that players will have to hit their approaches over. The par 4 18th, meanwhile, is also very memorable and may be the most challenging finishing hole in all of Ocean County. A punishing closing hole, 18 plays straight uphill to a treacherous two-tiered green perched some fifty feet above the play ers’ head from the middle of the fairway.
