You’ll feel it the moment you enter the community. The tree lined streets, lush landscaping and brick walkways. With its magnificent Clubhouse as it’s centerpiece, the feeling is traditional and memorable. Then there’s the worldclass Baywood Greens golf course that winds it way through the community, creating backyard vistas like nothing else around. And if that weren’t enough, there are marinas with boat slips with access to Rehoboth Bay and the Atlantic Ocean, beaches, restaurants and shopping all just minutes away.

Known as the “Augusta of the North,” Baywood Greens is by far the most visually spectacular golf course in Delaware and is consistently ranked #1 by Golf Digest’s Best in State.

Summer is a Time for Lots of Golf

We are deep into summer but we have still lots of time to play as much golf as we can. Indeed, we are going into early autumn before long and that season is one of the best times of the year to play; cooler days, great course conditions and greens fee specials.

A fabulous place to play in autumn is in and around Atlantic City. The premier golfing destination in the Northeast is ready to welcome you to a weekend stay and play visit, and if you have the time an even longer respite from the worries of everyday living. Atlantic City features over a dozen splendid golf courses, ranging from the historic to the new age. There are plenty of first class accommodations to be found on the Atlantic City Boardwalk and beyond, and there is plenty to keep you entertained and well fed after golf.

New Jersey-based Applied Golf Management has been acquired by Troon, the leading golf and club-related leisure and hospitality company in the world. As part of the acquisition, Troon assumed management of Applied Golf’s portfolio of 13 public and private golf facilities in New York, New Jersey and Florida. Members and guests of Applied Golf-managed facilities will continue to experience “the same outstanding service, course conditions and excellent food and beverage”.

New Jersey’s Forsgate Country Club’s historic Banks Course showcases one of the most distinctive template holes imported from Europe during the Golden Age of golf course architecture in America--the Biarritz. This year marks the 135th anniversary of the famous hole design that presents a unique challenge to golfers. The original Biarritz was created in 1888 by Willie Dunn, Jr. at its namesake club in France. C.B. Macdonald, considered the father of American golf course architecture, and his disciples Seth Raynor and Charles Banks introduced the classic hole design into a number of their most notable projects.

We also find out about the golf and lots of other great things to do in the southeastern part of North Carolina known as the Brunswick Islands, get the lowdown on the new series “Three Courses”, which can be seen weekly on Golf Nation at www.golfnation.com and its Android app, take a look at the fabulous golf experience that awaits in the Asian country of Thailand, and get a preview of myriad golf products that are on the market.

So, keep swinging and play as much golf as you can during August and September, a truly special time of the year.

Stay and Play

Autumn is not far away and the fall brings with it some of the best and most relaxing playing conditions of the year. The crowds have thinned, tee times are easy to get, the temperatures are pleasant (warm days and cool evenings) and the courses are in superb shape.

Deb Stevenson, General Manager at Harbor Pines Golf Club, said fall weather is perfect for golfing. “The heat and humidity are behind us and the crisp morning air is a welcome change. Course conditions are impeccable. While Harbor Pines enjoys fantastic course conditions year round, the autumn season brings about changes in the weather and the maintenance rituals which allow for more lush conditions. Not only does it play well, it looks amazing.”

Stevenson continued, “Our rates drop after the peak summer season as does demand, making tee times more accessible and you are able to finish a round more quickly. While we don’t have any `official’ winter rules at Harbor Pines, we encourage those who visit to relax the rules a little--it’s time to come out and enjoy the game without all the stress. Our new restaurant ‘the Roost’, is open year round and here to serve you before or after your round.”

Tom Sullivan, General Manager at McCullough’s Emerald Golf Links said his course is special for many reasons. “It really is a true links experience. We have rolling hills, tricky winds and undulating greens. Like links courses in the motherland, with each season is a unique course. The course in the fall is much different than the hard and fast course of the summer. Fall might be the best golf of the season.”

Let’s take a brief look at the top courses and clubs in the Atlantic City area.

Ballamor Golf Club: Carefully carved out of gently rolling land and dense woods, Ballamor is a golfer’s sanctuary. Peaceful and secluded surroundings can be found at every turn, capturing the beauty of the 350 acre property. Designed by nationally renowned architects, Ault, Clark & Associates, the course features wide, easy to hit fairways and large greens for comfortable approach shots. Ballamor boasts exceptional conditions, fast greens and impeccably manicured fairways and tees. Once a private club, Ballamor retains much of that feel today to the delight of daily fee players looking to experience golf at its finest. www.Ballamor.com

Scotland Run Golf Club: Built in and around an old sand quarry, Scotland Run offers a distinctive blend of quarry and links-style holes. The most unique characteristics include expansive waste areas and an imposing display of cliffs. Located 45 minutes from Atlantic City, Scotland Run is open to the public year-round for daily fee play, group outings and banquets. www.ScotlandRun.com

The Links at Brigantine Beach: True to its historic Scottish roots, the seaside layout includes breathtaking bay views, native marshes, and gently rolling nearly treeless terrain. The berms, moundings and tidal water hazards found on 14 of the 18 holes offer a challenge to all skill levels. The greens roll smoothly and are noted as the finest in Southern New Jersey….a bump-and-run strategy is often the best for producing low scores. www.BrigatineGolf.com

Eagle Ridge Golf Club: Eagle Ridge Golf Club is a stunning 27-hole championship golf course open to the public seven days a week. Nestled within the lush natural pines of Northern Ocean County, you will feel like you are playing in the Carolinas not Central Jersey. Experience exceptional golf conditions on the course voted The Best in Ocean County, just minutes from the Jersey Shore and an hour from both New York City and Philadelphia. Complete your day in a fun and relaxed atmosphere while enjoying delicious food or perhaps lifting a pint of ale in The Hut, a recently remodeled pub. www.EagleridgeGolf.com

The Seaview Resort Bay and Pines Courses: The Bay Course opened in 1914 and was designed by Hugh Wilson and Donald Ross. The 6,300-yard layout is less a test of length, and more a test of imagination, accuracy and the short game. The Bay Course presents a Scottish-links feel, dramatic seaside views, deep pot bunkers and small undulating greens. It

Shea takes pride in his approach where he meets his clients for their first round of golf, whether it’s the day they are arriving or the first day they are there. “This way, they know that there’s a person on the ground in the area and puts a face with the voice, name, text, etc. they’ve been dealing with up until that point.”

His customers “seem to be all over the spectrum these days” with a younger crowd moving in as well. “Basically, they are predominantly male, over 40 and even into the 80s, from a vast array of businesses, professionals and blue-collar workers. Golf trips are popular amongst public servants as well.”

Shannon Ott, a Partner of the package specialist GolfAC, said “Atlantic City has so many after hours activities for the golfer to

enjoy after their rounds of golf..dining, spas, gambling, shows, and much, much more.”

Since 1999, GolfAC has been “dedicated to providing clients with the finest service in an effort to deliver an Atlantic City golf experience beyond all expectations”. Ott said, “Our team of experts is available to help customers plan their next Atlantic City golf getaway.”

Ott said GolfAC.com is a one stop shop for golf vacation packages in and around Atlantic City. “Our features give groups of any size the ability to create a custom itinerary for their players to best fit their skill level and budget and combine lodging accommodations, tee times, dining and more, all in one place. With over 20 lodging options, 15 golf

courses, and endless restaurants, activities and transportation, there is simply something for everyone in Atlantic City.”

Ott continued, “After creating their desired golf vacation itinerary with the help of our golf travel experts, a simple online payment system allows golfers to individually join and pay their portion of a scheduled golf trip. No collecting money, and no hassle of booking tee times and blocks of rooms. Booking with GolfAC.com takes the stress out of planning Golf Getaways.”

Forsgate Country Club’s Historic Banks Course Celebrates

135th Anniversary of the Famous Biarritz Golf Hole Design

Forsgate Country Club’s historic Banks Course showcases one of the most distinctive template holes imported from Europe during the Golden Age of golf course architecture in America-the Biarritz.

Of the several courses in the U.S. that include a Biarritz, Forsgate’s majestic par three No. 17 on its Charles Banks designed course, which opened in 1931, is recognized

as one of the best architectural examples of this hole design. The existing hole from the tournament tees is 239 yards but can be stretched to 260 yards to the deepest pin placement. The green, which is considered one of the greatest in American golf, is roughly 84 yards deep from front to back with the swale running 25 yards across and just under six feet in depth.

A Biarritz typically stretches between 210 and 240 yards to a long green that includes a deep three to five foot swale that bisects the green into two parts, with narrow bunkers usually flanking each side of the green. A misjudged tee shot that lands in the swale often can be purgatory to escape.

“Our Banks Course is an architectural treasure and we take seriously our stewardship role in preserving this classic

gem,” said Chris Schiavone, Forsgate’s Managing Partner. ”The club is proud of the 17th hole’s reputation as a superb example of a Biarritz and we’re celebrating the 135th anniversary with a number of competitions on the hole to highlight its history so golfers appreciate the genius of this famed design.” Forsgate’s Banks Course was the last design in the continental United States by Charles “Steam Shovel” Banks. The distinguished course is renowned for its challenging and exaggerated features, such as the steep and deeply recessed bunkers and enormous, undulating greens. The course recreates some of the historic and famous holes found at the great courses of Scotland and Europe. The Banks Course has hosted several LPGA, PGA TOUR and NJ state championships.

Opening holes will quickly introduce you to the holes surrounded by lakes and beautiful waterfalls, a picturesque and calming Parkland-style setting. Desert style golf more to your liking, they have that too, a number of holes are carved out of rocks and sand while the entire property is surrounded by tropical forest.

Impressive for its variety, diversity and cool modernity, the 18-hole course was masterfully built and designed by Maverick Golf. It is the second PGA golf course developed by Grupo Piñero, combining the area’s most striking elements while meeting its main goal: the enjoyment of all golfers.

PGA Ocean´s 4 has a total of 27 holes distributed into two spectacular golf courses; one 18-hole par 72, for intermediate and advanced level players, and another 9-hole short par 27, ideal for children and beginners.

A couple of great options for accommodations, and you know you are in good hands when you are with Bahia Principe. The adults only Bahia Principe Luxury Bouganville is the perfect place to soak up some sun and consuming your adult bever-

ages of choice while being pampered after golf. My kind of place!

Family vacation? They have you covered, Bahia Principe Grand La Romana, is ideal for that family vacation, a peaceful oasis, with all the comforts your heart could desire. An idyllic setting that invites you to relax in its gorgeous bay. For more information:

The Grandaddy of Golf Resorts

The granddaddy of golf resorts in the Dominican is without a doubt Casa de Campo Resort & Villa’s. Luxury in an exclusive gated community, a setting that has hosted discerning travellers and celebrities for over 50 years. Boasting three golf courses designed by the legendary Pete Dye, Teeth of the Dog is the #1 ranked course in the Caribbean.

One of the most unique features of the resort is that every guest has their own golf cart for their stay and believe me that comes in very handy while trying to navigate the over 7,000 acres that await. Also available are resort shuttles for those who may want to visit the breathtaking replica of a 16th century Mediterranean village

Altos De Chavon overlooking the Dye Fore course and the river of the same name.

Other than the outstanding world class golf this might be my most favorite resort experience. Meticulously designed by Dominican architect, Jose Antonio Caro, and Italian master designer and cinematographer, Roberto Coppa, every detail of Altos de Chavón was handcrafted by local artisans. The village is a cultural center for residents, tourists, and working artists from all over the world. Active studios for artists of every medium from pottery to weaving, silk screening, and everything in between line the cobblestone streets alongside shops and boutiques showcasing their unique creations. The Art Gallery features works from noted Dominican artists, as well as

artists from around the world which helps to foster a dialogue of creativity and cultural exchange.

Everything offered at Casa de Campo is world class, yours to enjoy is the stunning Minitas Beach Club, a Marina, Equestrian Center featuring Polo, Shooting Course, great shopping, and 3 private pristine white sand beaches. Restaurants are also second to none, and yes you can also dine up top at Altos De Chavon, one of my favorites there is La Piazzetta with its selection of Italian classics. Waterside favorites include Minitas Beach Club with its sweeping views of the Caribbean and the Spanish inspired La Casita located within the marina complex, watch as the sun sinks from the sky into the calm ocean beyond.

What More Can One Add to the Golf……

When you have accolades like these…… and there are probably many more non golf related.

Best Caribbean Golf Course/ Teeth of the Dog at Casa de Campo (ranked #2) By USA Today 10

There are 3 fabulous Pete Dye Golf Course a casa de Campo, but any way you slice it golfers are coming to play the world renowned and breathtaking ocean holes on Teeth of the Dog, and those holes keep them coming back year after year!

Dye did a masterful job carving from the rugged rock and coral and he loved his work here so much that you will find a plaque on one of his favorite holes that denotes that somewhere around this green his ashes are buried. Just so happens I made my first birdie of the year on this par 4, second shot into a deep grassy swale, lofted a 1 hop wedge into the hole. You will know it when you get there. Thanks’ Pete!

Not to be discounted are the other holes that make up Teeth of the Dog. There is plenty of sand, a few lava rock formations and strategically placed ponds for you to deal with throughout the round.

27 Holes to Dye Fore

Not nearly as popular as the Teeth, but definitely a really, really great golf course. We expect nothing less from Dye. The Dye Fore Course is about a 15-minute ride from the main resort, high above the Chavron River and eyelevel to Altos de Chavon.

3 very different nines await. The Chavron and Marina nines are the original 2, with the Lagos nine being added in 2011. Ocean views here are from afar, but the golf course drama continues as you navigate the cliffs along the Chavron nine, with views from some 300 feet above and the jungle below. The Marina course 4th and 5th holes are most memorable guiding you down to the mouth of the river with views of the Marina.

There are some that will say the Dye Fore is the better of the 2 tracks at Casa de Campo. A testament to just how good it is. For my money you can’t compare the WOW Factor of playing on the rugged shores of the Caribbean. Any way you cut it; Casa de Campo is a World Class “Bucket list” experience.

Here’s to Refreshing Hannah Leiner, Gabi Powel & Golf Nation

Hannah Leiner loves to talk about her exciting rounds at Liberty National and Trump Bedminster. Gabi Powell says there are too many solid tracks in the Garden State to name one or two as favorites.

Hannah who? Gabi who?

They’re household names if you’re in tune with today’s hottest golf media personalities and social media consiglieres.

Adding to their burgeoning stardom is, well, starring roles in Golf Nation’s new series, “Three Courses.” Episodes begin on July 13 on are rolled out weekly on www.golfnation.com and its Android app.

Presented by Club Wyndham, season 1, episode 1 takes us to Phoenix where close friends, blonde Gabi and brunette Hannah, both 24 and happy as the happies clams, do what golfers love to do –play, eat and drink. The venues: 18 holes at Club Wyndham Legacy Golf Resort, chow at The Larder + The Delta, and adult beverages at Pigtails Downtown.

“Golf is an experience as much off the course as on the course,” says Hannah as Gabi nods in complete agreement. “Combining the mental strength to perform with the golf-lifestyle the rest of your waking hours represents a great life.”

The next two “Three Courses” episodes feature sights and sounds of golf destinations Oceanside, California and Atlanta. Not your normal Myrtle Beach or Scottsdale, but perfect for buddy and, in the case of Gabi and Hannah, girl’s trips.

The former Florida International University golf stars hit it off at first meetup. That fellowship glows in “Three Courses” as the duo roots for one another. Notwithstanding, audiences easily surmise Gabi sort of wants Hannah to lip out … and, naturally, vice versa. The competitive fire is there, but, in the end, camaraderie wins every time.

Gabi wields her driver with a swing

speed of, proverbially, the speed of light, her greatest bomb stretching 367 yards. While Hannah can’t top that, she claims “I never missed a fairway and never will.”

The “Three Sisters” travelogue captures what these golf-obsessed millennials (as do elder generations) want out of the sport and lifestyle – be the best version of yourself on the course, smile throughout rounds and create lasting memories. The blend of serious and not-so-serious is what golf offers above almost every sport.

Hannah appeared on “Holey Moley” on ABC-TV alongside Steph Curry while Gabi is brazenly focused on growing her already enormous social following.

“We loved filming 12- and 13-hour days with the awesome Golf Nation crew,” says Gabi. Her counterpart retorts: “I only wish there were behind-the-scenes cameras during our road trip from southern California to Phoenix – we laughed so hard … golf brings out the best in people.” The golf getaway is only one entertaining topic covered by the golf-lifestyle entertainment network. Other original, popular Golf Nation shows include “Ambush with David Feherty” and his hidden-camera hijinks; “Golf Unseen” that, this season, journeys in South Africa; “Tee

Shots” where celebrity guests chat, sip and take swings with famous mixologist Bill Binder; and “Watch Buy Play” highlighting the planet’s hottest golf products.

To top it off, Golf Nation President and former PGA of America President Suzy Whaley hosts the comedic “Don’t I Know You?” modeled after the “Newlywed Game.”

Golf Nation debuted in December 2022 and is en fuego. Its patented technology allows viewers to engage with and instantly learn about and purchase products and other offerings featured in shows by clicking on a “buy bar” while never leaving the streaming experience.

Like Club Wyndham, brands exclusively in and others adjacent to golf sponsoring shows and selling products in video.

Boasting a marketing degree, Gabi notes: “Video commerce is genius. Golf is indeed fun and games, but it’s a thriving business, as well.

In upcoming months, shows will be available on the Golf Nation iOS app, Apple TV, Fire TV, Roku and connected (smart) TVs. The company plans to soon announce a landmark partnership whereby Golf Nation will be pre-loaded on more than 100 million devices globally.

Applied Golf Management Acquired by Troon

New Jersey-based Applied Golf Management has been acquired by Troon, the leading golf and club-related leisure and hospitality company in the world.

As part of the acquisition, Troon assumed management of Applied Golf’s portfolio of 13 public and private golf facilities in New York, New Jersey and Florida. Members and guests of Applied Golf-managed facilities will continue to experience “the same outstanding service, course conditions and excellent food and beverage”. Current plans call for Applied Golf to continue to maintain its Millstone Township, New Jersey office and all Applied Golf associates will continue to support and manage facilities in the region.

“Dave Wasenda, for whom I have the utmost respect, and his team have cultivated a superb portfolio of club’s throughout New York, New Jersey and Florida by working hard and developing customized solutions for clients--tenets both companies share,” said Troon President and CEO Tim Schantz. “With the addition of Applied Golf, we significantly expand our footprint and management capabilities across the Northeast.”

Troon’s acquisition of Applied Golf Management brings with it additional support, expertise and resources to benefit current and prospective clients, while growing the company’s portfolio of managed facilities in the Northeast.

“We could not have chosen a better organization than Troon to help carry on what we have built over the past 17 years,” said Applied Golf Founder and President Dave Wasenda. “This acquisition closes a great chapter in our company’s history, while beginning an amazing new one for our clients and associates. With Troon’s resources, expertise and growing portfolio of managed properties; it is an exciting time for all of us to become part of the Troon family. We look forward to continued success and contributing to the company’s strong growth.”

Wasenda said he and other Applied Golf Management staff members have transitioned smoothly into Troon. “This is excit-

ing because the Troon purchase allows us to offer additional superb services to our clients,” he said. “It really is a win-win for everyone. It allows us to continue and grow and preserve our legacy that we have established in the New Jersey and New York markets. We had been approached by other firms but it never seemed like the right fit. Troon had everything we were looking for. They have superior senior management leadership, they are an innovative company, and always put the client first.”

Wasenda is a success story in himself. He began in the golf industry “washing golf carts” at a local club in the late 1980’s and in 2006 started a small local business that grew into a leading regional golf management firm. “Someone said to me that it was quite a story coming from humble beginnings in the industry to how we ended up and I suppose that is so. We’ve always tried to deliver quality service to clients, create a great work environment and grow the business in a smart strategic manner. It’s a great story where hard work, creating and maintaining long lasting relationships and treating team members and clients the right way resulted in larger companies viewing us as a very successful business to aquire.”

Wasenda has retained ownership of his

two courses, Knob Hill Golf Club and Concordia Golf Club, both in New Jersey, and said the two properties were not part of the Troon acquisition. “We will continue to own these great properties, manage them within the Troon platform and look forward the same, if not greater success, with the addition of the Troon resources. ”

Headquartered in Scottsdale, Ariz., Troon is the world’s largest golf and golfrelated hospitality management company providing services at 750-plus locations, including 740-plus 18-hole equivalent golf courses around the globe. In addition to golf, Troon specializes in homeowner association management, private residence clubs, estate management and associated hospitality venues. Troon’s food and beverage division operates and manages 600-plus food and beverage operations located at golf resorts, private clubs, daily fee golf courses and recreational facilities. With properties located in 45-plus states and 30-plus countries, Troon’s family of brands includes Troon Golf, Troon Privé, Troon International, Indigo Sports, Caddiemaster, ClubUp, Cliff Drysdale Tennis, Peter Burwash International, True Club Solutions, RealFood Hospitality, Strategy and Design, Casa Verde Golf and ICON Management.
