Golf Putting Tips for Short Putts Missing short putts is SO frustrating, isn’t it! They look so easy, don’t they? But they’re not, and short putts can often make or break around. If you are missing short putts, there is usually a simple reason – either you are not starting the ball off on the correct line (the putter face is not aligned correctly) or you are changing the line of your putt. Here is some great golf putting tips to try and help you with these tricky little putts!
Tip #1 Practice the ‘push’ drill as much as possible – subscribe to “7Deadly Putting Sins” and you’ll also receive a free lesson from the Golf Putting Lessons DVD which will show you how to do this. If you are missing putts when executing this drill then clearly you are not aiming the club at the hole correctly. Check your grip, alignment, and ball position if this is the case. One or more of them will be causing this. Tip #2
Make a shorter back-swing than you normally would for short putts. This will make you accelerate the putter through the ball to get a nice sweet strike. This is a GREAT tip for short putts. Tip #3 Never EVER look at the hole – this is more likely to make you move your body (which needs to be perfectly still). Practice short putts on the practice green with your eyes shut and just listen for the sound of the ball dropping into the hole. Tip #4 When you are under real pressure (perhaps to win a match), ensure you don’t change your pre-shot routine. You need to stay calm and go through your normal routine. Don’t take an extra look at the hole or another practice stroke just because you are under pressure. Keep your routine the same and just let it flow… I hope these tips help you hole more short putts, especially when you are under pressure.
