It isn’t too often when it comes to golf apparel that tradition gets along with quirkiness and outside the box thinking—but a newcomer to the clothing side of the sport has done just that—with magnificent results.

Player2 describes itself as a lighthearted yet classic men’s golf apparel brand—with the logo and slogan: “Drop Another” to signify the age-old mulligan or do-over.

The brand was founded just a year ago by three successful businessmen: David Petrie – Co-founder of Blue Buffalo Co.-Natural Pet foods; Co-Founder Sobe Beverages; Bill McGarry--Sr. VP, Advertising Sales + Strategic Partnerships at AccuWeather and AJ Romeo--Owner of the sports marketing firm, Barnburner Marketing. Each of them is passionate about the game—but appreciate all the imperfections that come with it. A golf shot is rarely perfect - yet there’s an addiction that can come with it.

The concept started with an early morning tee time. When AJ hit it off the tee, it was clear that his ball was lost. Bill, his buddy, said “drop another!” AJ did and striped it down the middle. Bill then said, “Player 2 always comes through.” Try again because the next shot just might be “the one.” That is golf. And that’s how AJ, Bill and David came up with the name Player2.

From that encounter came the offbeat name and brand that has produced some very well-made polos, vests, hats, T-shirts, hoodies and accessories. Right now, it’s primarily men’s products, but eventually the company would like to add a women’s and kids’ lineup.

Player 2 designers eliminated the draw strings to avoid distractions during the golf swing.
