by Dakota Diaz The word is out in the Asian golfing community: Kansai, Japan has become one of the hottest Asian golf destinations in 2021. With a wide variety of elite courses and new international daily airline routes to all over Japan, international golfers will be flocking to Japan.

by David R. Holland When Texas Star opened 25 years ago in the Pipeline Industrial Area of this mid-cities town between Dallas and Fort Worth there were lots of questions about just how popular and financially successful it would be.

Golf Apparel Update

Full disclosure: there’s really no winter in South Carolina and Southern California to speak of. And thus Southern Tide, based in Greenville, S.C. and Linksoul, headquartered in Oceanside, Calif. don’t churn out heavy outerwear for battling the elements.

B

RANSON, MO – Planning golf trips now is particularly appealing as players anticipate the more golferfriendly weather of March and April, and Branson is an ideal choice for those who want to experience what many are calling the country’s most compelling golf destination. The Missouri Ozarks oasis earns high praise through its 10 golf courses, all public access, all near one another, and including Tiger Woods’ first-ever public course design – Payne’s Valley, an 18hole extravaganza with a stunning bonus 19th hole called “The Big Rock.” When one sees the towering, 300-million-yearold limestone formations with waterfalls cascading down them that surround the green (as does water) – they’ll understand that this special extra hole came by its name honestly. Add a variety of diverse yet complementary other playing options, wonderful restaurants and three lakes, and a plethora of other after-golf attractions, and it’s clear why Branson is a spring break destination for not only discerning golfers, but also everyone in the family. “Explore Branson during spring break and you’ll leave having enjoyed what will surely be an unforgettable getaway,” said Lynn Berry, Branson CVB Communications Director. “Play great golf courses that are drawing global interest, then experience some of Branson’s many live shows, family attractions and other activities.” When considering where to stay and play in Branson, start by learning all that Big Cedar Lodge offers. In addition to a spectrum of wonderful lodging styles and Payne’s Valley – Tiger’s new course, the 19th hole of which he collaborated on with Big Cedar Founder Johnny Morris – the renowned resort includes four other layouts: Top of the Rock (9hole par-3 course, Jack Nicklaus design) Mountain Top (13hole par-3 course, walking only, Gary Player design) Ozarks National (18 holes, Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw) Buffalo Ridge Course (18 holes, Tom Fazio and Johnny Morris design Branson Hills Golf Club and the Hiltons

at Branson (Branson Hilton Convention Center and Hilton Promenade at Branson Landing) combine to form another firstclass stay and play option. Both hotels are located across the street from one another – Promenade on the waterfront at Branson Landing, Convention Center adjacent to historic downtown Branson. Branson Hills is a Chuck Smith-Bobby Clampett 18-hole course design, and it was voted one of the top 50 courses in the country in the Golf Pass/Golfers’ Choice awards this year. Thousand Hills (Bob Cupp design), The Pointe, LedgeStone (Tom Clark design), and Holiday Hills complete Branson Golf’s roster of 10 courses, and each has earned appreciation for their playability and value. Thousand Hills has a variety of lodging options, from condos to upscale cabins, and Holiday Hills Golf Resort is a Holiday Inn Vacations Club property that is open to the public. Casa de Campo Resort & Villas Announces TrackMan Golf Simulator Partnership

LA ROMANA, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC – Casa de Campo Resort & Villas – home to the Caribbean’s premier, luxury golf experiences – announces its celebrated Pete Dye-designed Teeth of the Dog and Dye Fore layouts are now featured on TrackMan indoor golf simulators worldwide. Using state-of-the-art drone footage, TrackMan digitally rendered all 18 holes of Teeth of the Dog and 27 holes of Dye Fore with its innovative 3D technology. The spectacular ocean-hugging par-3 fifth hole on Teeth of the Dog, one of the most photographed in the game, will be displayed as the loading image on all Trackman simulator bays during the week of Feb. 15. Teeth of the Dog has long been a “bucket list” layout for those seeking to play one of

the world’s top 50 golf courses. Dye’s design hallmarks are all present: railroad ties, vast waste areas, peninsula greens and tees, hand-sculpted putting surfaces, and a unique assortment of pot bunkers. “The Heaven 7” oceanfront holes are astoundingly beautiful, causing Dye to famously quip: “I created 11 holes, and God created seven.” Twenty-seven-hole Dye Fore joined Teeth of the Dog in 2002. Its three nines – Chavon, Marina and Lakes – are distinct. Chavon features seven holes running atop cliffs dropping 300 feet, Marina meanders down to a harbor ringed by restaurants and shops, and Lakes is artfully crafted across tumultuous terrain. Golf course architecture aficionados call Dye Fore “the most underrated course in the Caribbean.” In addition to the two courses at Casa de Campo, the TrackMan technology allows virtual play on some of the world’s most famous golf destinations such as Royal Portrush, Innisbrook, Muirfield Village, PGA National as well as four layouts at legendary St. Andrews Links in Scotland including the iconic Old Course. Casa de Campo also showcases two TrackMan simulators at its worldclass Golf Learning Center. The facility features two indoor hitting bays for rapid game improvement, year-round training, individual and group golf lessons and schools, and expert club-fitting and repair. Residing on 21 acres of “pure grass,” the PGA TOUR-quality facility also showcases practice greens for honing putting, chipping, and pitching games as well as unlimited use of the pristine outdoor range for full shots. On-course instruction is also available. For more information on Casa de Campo Resort & Villas please call 800.877.3643, email golf@ccampo.com.do or visit: www. casadecampo.com.do.

Home to the nation’s longest course with designs from renowned architects Tom Fazio and Robert Trent Jones, The International is steeped in a rich 120-year history of challenging, championship golf. Staying true to its heritage, Escalante Golf plans to preserve this legacy and expand on its vision to reimagine the club in 2021 and beyond. “From its history and championship layouts to its picturesque New England landscape and ideal proximity to Boston, we saw a unique opportunity in The International to build something truly special and different,” said David McDonald, President of Escalante Golf. “We aim to create a welcoming environment with a golf-first experience, fostering a culture rooted in a deep respect for the game that honors and connects the community, whether they are members, guests or staff.” Membership will be comprised of stewards who will share in the responsibility of shepherding a new era of golf at The International. At 8,325 yards, the Pines Course at The International is the longest course in the U.S. and one of the most difficult due to its large, dramatic green complexes and penal bunkers. It was originally designed in 1953 by Geoffrey Cornish who was assisted by the legendary amateur, Francis Ouimet. The Pines Course was later renovated and lengthened by famed golf course architect, Robert Trent Jones. The Oaks Course is one of two golf course designs by Fazio located in Massachusetts. It was recognized in 2020 as one of Golfweek’s “Best Courses You Can Play.” Fazio also designed the club’s expansive practice facility that serves both courses, including a double-sided driving range with multiple short-game areas. Escalante’s plans for further course designs and enhancements will be announced soon and build upon the established foundation of championship golf. Escalante Golf acquired The International out of bankruptcy. It was previously owned by Dan and Florence Weadock, who were widely respected after successfully elevating the prestige and reputation of the club. JAPAN’S BEST

Kansai: Fascinating and Friendly T he word is out in the Asian golfing community: Kansai, Japan has become one of the hottest Asian golf destinations in 2021. With a wide variety of elite courses and new international daily airline routes to all over Japan, international golfers will be flocking to Japan. And why not? Japan is widely viewed as a fascinating, friendly and safe golf destination, with arguably the most renowned food culture in the world, 4 (arguably 5) beautiful seasons and beautiful landscapes available for golf all year round (a unique feature for Asian countries) There has never been a more compelling time to visit. What is ‘Omotenashi’ Golf? Omotenashi is the Japanese word for hospitality. Japanese take great pride in the way they care for guests. This is reflected on Japanese courses where there are more staff on average than American or European courses. The results speak for themselves. The courses are meticulously cared for resulting in awe inspiring conditions. Palatial clubhouses with legions of friendly and welcoming staff is all part of experience. And this is no different in Kansai where when you arrive at a club, you will be greeted by staff bowing at the entrance, your golf bags will be whisked away like a 5 star hotel and you will be invited to check in at the reception. Everyone is given a locker number and a key, which can be used for purchases while at the course and settled up at check out. There is no need to worry about food or drinks as there are usually two tea houses on the course to cover all your needs. However, you will be most likely stopping for lunch after 9 – a rather steadfast Japanese tradition. This may seem strange for a lot of international golfers, but you will surely enjoy it! There is generally a delicious variety of Japanese and western food, which might just be the perfect remedy for bad opening 9. The best part about rounds in Japan is the hot baths that await golfers’-tired muscles. Some courses even boast – onsen (natural spring water baths). Japan’s natural hot springs are renowned for their therapeutic and medicinal benefits. At trip to any onsen is a relaxing experience–an onsen after golf is heavenly. If your worried about etiquette and what to do, check this easy to understand video or just ask the staff! After the onsen, and if you’re not driving, a beer at the club lounge is always a great way to finish your day. Afterwards, you can settle up with your locker key and be on your way. Things to note: There is a certain prestige to golf rounds in Japan and with it comes a level of formality – think Augusta. Although dress codes vary, most courses expect, collared shirts and proper golfing attire. Also, it is always best to have a sports coat when arriving and departing. Although, if it is a hot day, a jacket slung over your arm is fine. It is good practice to arrive in your smart day clothes, change into golf wear and after the bath, back into your day clothes. More info on good etiquette at courses here. 7 of the best! The Kansai area is not only made up of some of the best courses in Japan, from the World Top 50 Hirono Golf Club in Hyogo to the beautiful seaside courses of Mie, it is home to several “must see” prefectures in Japan. Take a look at some highlights you can discover during your time in Kansai: Osaka As Japan’s original commercial capital, Osaka prefecture, which wholly incorporates the city that bares its name, has a center of

18 Golf Vacations • March 2021

Japanese culture for over 1,000 years. Today, the Osaka metropolitan region is the world’s 8th richest metropolitan area, on par with cities like Los Angeles and Paris. The city is roughly divided by an uptown district and a downtown district. Uptown, or the Umeda district, is characterized by its many skyscrapers and Osaka station; while downtown’s Namba district is known for its extensive entertainment and shopping. With 34 courses there is plenty of options of golf with 15 of them within 30 minutes’ drive from downtown Osaka. Shiga Shiga prefecture is an area rich in natural beauty, and because of its location on an ancient trading route, it also hosts several historically important shrines and castles. Shiga prefecture is probably most famous for Lake Biwa, the largest lake in Japan. A full sixth of the prefecture is covered by the Biwako Quasi-National Park, which includes several beautiful lakes and mountains. Which ads unbelievable drama to the 42 pristine courses on offer. Hyogo Hyogo prefecture shares its boundaries with the Sea of Japan in the north and the Seto Inland sea in the south. It is characterized by its amazing natural beauty that flourishes alongside ultra-modern cities. Kobe is the economic centre of the prefecture and is one of the leading trading ports in Japan. Hyogo offers you plenty of places to visit and many sporting activities to enjoy, but you might not have any time to enjoy them because you are about to enter golf-course heaven! Kyoto As the capital of Japan for over a thousand years, it is nearly impossible to overstate the significance of Kyoto in Japanese history. Kyoto is the cultural heart of Japan boasting seventeen World Cultural Heritage Sites in the city alone. From the intricacies of tea ceremony to the breathtaking beauty of Arashiyama, Kyoto has captured the hearts and imaginations of travelers for centuries. Mie Beautiful manicured fairways, rolling greens and challenging sand traps sit high within the sweeping mountains above the breathtakingly rugged coastal views of the golf courses in the Mie prefecture. Mie is situated Pacific side of Kansai, easily accessible within a few hours of Osaka, Kyoto, and Nagoya. However, there is much more awaiting you after a round of golf than just the 19th hole. Wakayama Just a couple of hours south of Osaka, there is a place where ancient pathways lead to hidden shrines shrouded in mist, where monks worship waterfalls and mystical forests float. The mountains here sacred dwellings for the gods, known for their restorative powers. Along the saw-tooth coast healing onsens (hot spring baths) merge with the clear waters of the ocean and of course 22 golf courses. Nara Much of the Japan we know today was formed in Nara prefecture. Many of the ancient customs that laid the foundations for modern Japanese culture are still practiced in this serene region. It is a place that can get crowded with tourists but also offers plenty of opportunity for total isolation–just let your spirit guide you. Its sites are concentrated around its capital city, also called Nara. Home to some of Japan’s most important historical landmarks, including the jaw-dropping Todai-ji temple and its 15-meter tall bronze Buddha– and of course 32 epic courses.

TEXAS STAR G

E

ULESS, Tx – When Texas Star opened 25 years ago in the Pipeline Industrial Area of this mid-cities town between Dallas and Fort Worth there were lots of questions about just how popular and financially successful it would be. A landfill is within a driver’s distance, although you will never see it. Texas Star was a gem, designed by Keith Foster, when it opened and it is even better today thanks to more than $500,000 in upgrades and improvements. Make a list of Texas’ Top Ten municipals and I’d put it ahead of many, including El Paso’s Butterfield Trail and Dallas’ Stevens Park. I’d rather play Texas Star any day than daily-fee layouts like LaCantera Palmer in San Antonio and PGA Tour stop TPC Las Colinas in Irving.

“This is just a beautiful piece of property with hills and elevation changes,” said Scott Boven, superintendent. “During construction they kept as many trees as possible so on most holes you don’t even see adjacent holes. “Golfers always tell me this is a municipal that gives a country club feel – from the minute you drive into the parking lot until an attendant takes you back to your car. Service and conditions are a No. 1 priority.” The Improvements of Texas Star Major upgrades included replacing the 17-year-old bentgrass greens with ultra-dwarf Bermuda mini-verde which is recommended by experts for the D-FW Metroplex. Bentgrass is a cool weather grass; Bermuda thrives in the heat of August. Also the 50 bunkers were rebuilt and filled with premierwhite sand made from crushed quartz, known to be easier www.golfvacationsmag.com

to hit out of for players of all skill levels. Add 80 new golf carts with GPS that includes lightning warning, a rework on tee box leveling and a cleanup of the pond on No. 16 and you have a today’s technology golf experience. Texas Star: The Layout This par-71 test of 6,936 yards has targets and options in abundance. Foster sculpted it out of 275 acres of rolling terrain with 100-year old oaks and natural woodlands, tall native grasses and Hurricane Creek traversing through it. No homes infringe on the course. Instead of a walk through an industrial park you have a Texas Hill Country feel with many star quality holes less than 30 minutes for D-FW International Airport. No. 9, a par-4, 422 yards, is the No. 2 handicap hole. It’s named Devil’s Point and requires thought for the long hitters. There’s water crossing the fairway about 100 yards out. In fact, you must contend with water on holes 2, 8, 9, 10, 11, and 18. Other obstacles include ridges, grass bunkers, sand and Scottish-links style eyebrows -- which are basically protrusions and upheavals of turf right there in the middle of the fairways or spots you wouldn’t imagine. Johnson’s Crossing opens the back nine with an uphill tee shot on a 539-yard par-5 that slopes left. The tee shot must clear two large fairway bunkers, then you have to negotiate the creek which crosses in front of the green. Double Barrel on 11 gives you the option of going low left or high right on the tee shot. It’s only a 337-yard par-4, but there are three bunkers surrounded by thick grass on a ridge in the middle of the fairway. On 13, Coyote Bluff, you have a blind tee shot that doglegs slightly left. Hit a good one and you can see the green well below you on this 414-yarder. Battle Cry, the 370-yard par-4 15 is the best22 Golf Vacations • March 2021

looking hole with a waterfall centerpiece. You have the option of hitting it long and right over the creek to have the best angle to the green. You can also hit it straight and short of the creek, dodging a bunker, to have an uphill shorter second shot. Presidio, the short and scenic 179-yard downhill par-3, follows as No. 16. The hole spotlights a stacked rock wall edging the creek on the right. The finale, named Deguello, is a par-5, 535-yarder filled with target options. There’s water on the first and second shots and average players will have to hit a shorter second shot because the creek crosses the fairway. You will also have to steer clear of a fairway bunker right near the 150-yard pole. Big hitters www.golfvacationsmag.com

going for the green in two have to watch out for hanging the shot right, because the creek passes to the right of the green. Texas Star is owned by the City of Euless. The golf course was completed in 1997 as part of the 321-acre Texas Star Sports Centre complex in Euless. It is an amateur athlete’s dream, the overall complex also includes Parks at Texas Star baseball, tee-ball and soccer fields, batting cages, softball fields and partnership with the Children’s Health StarCenter. Texas Star is a winner. The clubhouse looks like a Hill Country ranch house. The practice facilities are impressive and the restaurant named Raven’s Grille is a favorite of locals, not just golfers. GOLF APPAREL UPDATE

Southern Tide, Linksoul Come Out Swinging in 2021

F

ull disclosure: there’s really no winter in South Carolina and Southern California to speak of. And thus Southern Tide, based in Greenville, S.C. and Linksoul, headquartered in Oceanside, Calif. don’t churn out heavy outerwear for battling the elements.

Rather, both apparel brands focus on their target market: golfers who play year-round in regions with temps in the high 40s to low 60s. Sure, both make some warm vests and cozy sweaters, but neither would claim to own that market niche. Here’s a roundup of new offerings from Southern Tide and Linksoul heading into 2021.

Most golf fashionistas would argue that Peter Millar owns the golf vest category – and essentially, they’re right. Southern Tide is making a strong push to rival its North Carolina neighbor, at least in terms of variety. Our favorite pick for 2021 is the Performance Vest, made from 92% polyester and 8% stretch and retailing for $145.

Vests and Hoodies Both of these styles of outer garments are extremely hot right now, especially golf hoodies (and in case you missed it, the controversy around whether they’re appropriate attire was quickly put to rest). Whereas vests are timeless and versatile, and never out of place on the golf course.

The Performance Vest is so streamlined, it feels like an extension of whatever you’re wearing under it. Pair it with a long sleeve compression shirt for an integrated outer shell that can hold its own on 45 to 55 degrees days. The Southern Tide Skipjack logo is embroidered on the back neck, adding a sporty touch to a vest that’s sure to generate more than a few looks.

We test drove Linksoul’s Perforated Half-Zip Boardwalker Hoodie for a couple of rounds in 55-degree weather with light to medium winds. It held up brilliantly, blocking the breeze while offering plenty of flexibility.

For a more traditional look with a looser fit, golfers will also dig Southern Tide’s Cas Abo Vest, just released in late January. The 100% nylon water resistant offering features interior fleece lining for warmth, rubber braded pull-on pockets and a two-way center front zipper. Available in true navy and blue cover, the Cas Abo Vest retails for $125.

For those familiar with the brand’s four-way stretch cotton Boardwalker pants and shorts, the Boardwalker Hoodie will feel familiar. It’s available in four colors, navy, tarmac, blue slate and black, and at the time of this writing was on sale for $70. 26 Golf Vacations • March 2021

Pullovers and Pants Sometimes you just need a light, wind-breaking protective shell as final layer worn over short-sleeve polo (on a warmer day) or atop golf sweater on cooler days. Southern Tide’s www.golfvacationsmag.com

Intercoastal Quarter Zip fits the bill, and we used it on-course on a 50-degrees day with 20 mph wind gusts. We sampled it in Heather Gunmetal, but it’s also offered in a more classic coastal dark navy. The Intercoastal Quarter Zip is moisture-wicking, provides UPF protection and is made with four-way stretch materials that don’t inhibit you swing. Suggested retail: $165. If the “Intercoastal” line sounds familiar, it’s likely because this maritime moniker is the branding element of one of Southern Tide’s most popular items, the iconic Intercoastal Pant. These casual, two-way stretch pants (retail: $125) are made from nylon and stretch with a stylish Skipjack placement on the front coin pocket. The color palette is strong and simple: navy, khaki, stone, grey and polarized grey. Polos In the Southeast, Southwest and California, the tried-and-true golf polo is still a staple of golf winter-wear. A compression shirt underneath and a vest of pullover on top and you’re good to go in temps down the low 40s. This short-sleeve work horse has always been a staple offering from Southern Tide, and in 2021, the company’s holding true to its preppy roots while also dabbling in some good ole fashioned fun. Case in point of the latter being the Gin & Tonic and Tile Printed Driver Performance Polo Shirts (retail: &89.50). Southern Tide loyalists will appreciate the Driver Heather Stripe Performance Polos (retail: $89.50), a four-way stretch, opensleeve polo in a traditional fit. It’s offered in both broad stripe and micro strip edition, with three color patterns in each. www.golfvacationsmag.com

SWEETSTUFF Titleist New ProV1 for 2021

I

t has been more than 20 years since Titleist introduced its first revolutionary ProV1 golf ball to the professional tours and the recreational golf market—and since then the company has continued to make dramatic innovations every couple years as they have improved the technology on their flagship ball. The 2021 models of the Prov1 and ProV1x show marked advances in distance, feel and greenside performance. The new ProV1 is easily the softest ball that Titleist has produced in this franchise with exceptional feel off the putter—and the ability to spin the ball around the greens and control pitch shots is markedly better. The ProV1x, which has traditionally been the longer of the ProV1 balls, also sports a softer feel than in years past but has the higher flight and increased spin that many players prefer. It offers a lot of control for a firmer ball made for increased speed off the clubface. Behind the curtain, both models feature a new core, casing layer, cover and aerodynamic technologies. Both new 2021 models deliver longer distance and long-lasting durability--while maintaining their differences in flight, feel and spin. “When a golfer chooses Pro V1 or Pro V1x, they are choosing absolute performance,” said Jeremy Stone, Vice President, Titleist Golf Ball Marketing. “Our R&D and Operations teams have spent years engineering new technology into each and every component of 2021 Pro V1 and Pro V1x. When it comes to the performance and quality of these products, we will continue to go to every length possible to help golfers play their best and shoot their lowest scores.” According to Stone, advancements in Titleist’s multi-component technology are precisely designed to work together, providing total performance and extreme consistency on every shot. The improvements include a reformulated 2.0 ZG Process Cores that delivers increased distance in the solid core Pro V1 and dual core Pro V1x. A faster high-flex casing layer adds speed and lowers long game spin. Also, a new, softer cast Urethane Elastomer Cover--the softest cover formulation ever used on a Pro V1 or Pro V1x – increases greenside spin for more control in the short game. A new spherically tiled Tetrahedral Dimple Design--featuring a 388-dimple layout for Pro V1, and 348 for Pro V1x-- are optimized to each model to

28 Golf Vacations • March 2021

maximize distance and flight consistency. Pro V1 maintains its penetrating trajectory while Pro V1x will fly higher than the prior generation. The new dimple designs on the 2021 Pro V1 and Pro V1x are the first entirely new patterns since 2011. Since the original Pro V1 debuted 20 years ago, Titleist R&D has designed, manufactured, and tested more than 1,900 aerodynamic patterns. That includes more than 60 different iterations of 2021 Pro V1’s 388 dimple layout, and more than 30 versions of Pro V1x’s 348 dimple design. “When we find a pattern we like, the next step is making sure we find the best possible version of that pattern by building and testing different variations of dimple depths, diameters, shapes and surface coverages,” explained Mike Madson, Titleist R&D’s Director of Aerodynamics & Research Engineering “It takes years of work – we’ve been working on these new packages for almost a decade – but it is that commitment to research that ensures each golf ball is optimized to fly at its longest and most efficient trajectory.” Since the introduction of these two new balls on the PGA Tour in October 2020, many of the world’s best players have switched to the new Pro V1 and Pro V1x in competition, including Adam Scott (Pro V1x), Justin Thomas (Pro V1x), Tony Finau (Pro V1), Ryan Palmer (Pro V1x), Scottie Scheffler (Pro V1) – and Cameron Smith, who became the first player in the history of The Masters to finish with all four rounds in the 60s while playing new Pro V1x in November. “When I first tested it, it was a bit hotter off the driver, which was great,” Smith said. “The ball flight and windows were great. But the biggest thing that stuck out was the control coming out of the rough and around the greens. I can control my shots – especially those difficult, soft shots – so much better.” For more information: www.titleist.com.

SWEETSTUFF

joints that tend to be problem areas. Although not yet scientifically proven, users have hailed the healing power of copper for years. It is believed that damaged nerves trap electricity in your body causing pain, burning, redness, loss of appetite, insomnia, headaches and more. Copper pulls the electricity from your body to relieve pain and allow healing. As a bonus, copper contains antibiofouling (or the prevention of microorganisms, plants, algae, or animals accumulating on wetted surfaces) and antimicrobial applications/properties. Thus, embedding copper into the fabric of compression garments helps to keep them odor- and germ-free. The fabric also helps skin free of fungus--even in extremely hot temperatures. And it helps reduce the spread of bacteria. These products can be worn all day and night, and are made with 80% nylon, 12% copper nylon and 8% spandex. The four-way compression sleeve within the socks are designed for full range of motion and mobility, and the patented material is moister wicking for added comfort. The darker color of the new Claw Pro is sharp and accented with black edges—but the extra grip strength and tackiness readily stands out with this glove that has an exclusive silicone grip so the palm will not blacken, crack, or tear. It is machine washable and has outstanding ventilation, and even after extensive wear and sweat, these gloves still look new and fresh. As opposed to most golf gloves that are leather, the Claw Pro is made of 100% synthetic suede and mesh—with a silicone web coating on the palm, thumb and index finger. The company notes that it will last three to five times longer than traditional leather gloves. They come in six men’s sizes: XL, L, M, S and Cadet L and M. The Claw glove is available at: www.clawglove.com, on Amazon and at select retailers.

CopperJoint, a Wyoming company that has spent more than half a decade developing copper-infused athletic wear, has several products that can help golfers with those aches and pains that go along with the game. From compression socks, sleeves, braces and even insoles, CopperJoint has utilized the healing property of genuine copper ions embedded in the fabric to help provide pain relief directly to the sore or injured area. CopperJoint garments are crafted from breathable, moisture wicking performance fabric for ultimate comfort and feature an anti-slip design to help prevent them from rolling or sliding off during physical activity. The long compression socks are especially effective during the colder months and help keep legs, ankles and feet feeling fresh and warm and rested throughout the round—almost a soothing feeling for the part of your body that gets the most workout during a game.
