There are a growing number of golfers who feel that Florida is the Golf Capital of the US. Golfers from up north flock to the Sunshine State every winter to bask in the warmth and keep their golf game alive for when they return home. It’s home to some of the best courses, they are open year-round, and their colleges have produced quite a few PGA TOUR players.

22 Visit Panama and Play Golf

Panama City, Panama turned 500 years old in 2019. It was the first European settlement on the Pacific coast of the Americas. Unlike most countries that have a north-south orientation, Panama lies east-west with the Caribbean Sea to the north and the Pacific Ocean to the south. A good way to think about this is Panama lies parallel to, and 9 degrees north of, the equator making the daylight shorter and the air humid. The Panamanian seasons are the reverse of North America’s. Summer is from December 15th through April 15th.

Cape Town, South Africa

Cape Town, South Africa Continues to attract tourists who love luxury accommodations, great food, a phenomenal exchange rate, magnificent wildlife and fabulous golfing. Since leaving South Africa many moons ago, I have returned at least 20 times, if not more. It is one of the most beautiful countries, inhabited by wonderful people, living in the most spectacular and diverse destinations.

PGA Catalunya Golf and Wellness has been recognised as one of Europe’s finest golf and wellness experiences, affirmed by the latest edition of the game’s leading ranking list.

In the Golf World Top 100 Resorts of Continental Europe 2022*, PGA Catalunya Golf and Wellness places fourth, continuing its reign as the No. 1 ranked golf resort in Spain, and solidifying its standing as one of Continental Europe’s premier destinations.

Chris Bertram, Editor of the Top 100 Golf Resorts in Continental Europe, said: “PGA Catalunya is not just one of Europe’s finest resorts but one of the best in the world. A sign of its all-round quality is the fact that it features in the top 10 in Europe in three categories: ‘courses’, ‘accommodation’ and ‘best for families’.

In addition to the recently upgraded Stadium Course, a longestablished Spanish no.1 layout* and a Top-25 course in Europe deemed “a fair test for any level of golfer with a balance of risk and reward” by Chris Bertram in the latest ranking, and its sister design, the Tour course, PGA Catalunya also boasts two accommodation options: the 5* Hotel Camiral, a member of The Leading Hotels of The World, offering chic interiors and luxury accommodation, as well as a state-of-the-art Wellness Centre, and LAVIDA Hotel, aimed at the active traveller, both in close proximity to the resort’s other amenities which promote physical and emotional wellbeing.

Ongoing enhancements at the European Tour Destinations venue, which form part of a long-term €53 million development programme, include seven new wellness-focused Camiral Suites, designed to offer guests a unique retreat experience with access to large private

living spaces equipped with personal fitness accessories, healthy inroom nutrition and a direct link to the Wellness Centre.

“Maintaining a high standing among Europe’s premier golf resorts is an achievement in itself,” said David Plana, PGA Catalunya Golf and Wellness CEO. “We are so pleased to see the numerous enhancements and developments made over the last few years be this well received – and continue to build our journey to become one of the leading golf and wellness resorts in the world.

“We are confident the continued investment in the golf courses, improvement to the customer experience and development of resort amenities will further establish PGA Catalunya as a must-visit luxury resort for not just golfers, but all types of visitors looking to experience the wonders of the Costa Brava.”

PGA Catalunya Golf and Wellness has established its position as one of Europe’s premier luxury lifestyle destinations, with a 300-hectare forested estate, sport and leisure facilities, range of dining choices, nature trails and more, all located within a 20-minute drive from neighbouring Girona. The resort makes the perfect location for golfers, sports enthusiasts, remote workers, retreat seekers and their families visiting this unique region in the north-east of Spain.

DENVER, CO – Cherry Hills, one of America’s most historic and revered golf clubs and site of Arnold Palmer’s lone U.S. Open victory in 1960, has completed a decade-long restoration of its 1922 William Flynn golf course, which has hosted 14 major championships and will welcome the 2023 United States Amateur Championship next summer.

Cherry Hills commissioned acclaimed golf course architect Tom Doak and Renaissance Golf Design in 2007 to restore the charm, character, and playability of the original Flynn design while also lengthening it over the years to maintain the club’s heritage of hosting prestigious national championships. Much of the work has taken place over the past decade under the direction of Renaissance associate Eric Iverson.

LITTLE DRY CREEK PROJECT

The culminating phase of the restoration was the return to its original orientation of Little Dry Creek, which was completed this spring. Iverson oversaw the creek’s repositioning along several greens and fairways on both the front and back nines. While the project reengineered the Little Dry Creek to reduce flood potential and better manage water flow, it also brought back many of the thrilling and strategic shot values Flynn created a century ago.

To restore Flynn’s original design, Little Dry Creek was rerouted closer to the front of the green on the 14th hole, next to the green on the seventh, and then continues to flow tightly alongside the newly re-designed eighth hole. Little Dry Creek was also moved more into play on the 15th hole, where the recent rediscovery and restoration of Flynn’s original left side of the green helped create a more thoughtprovoking approach. The creek now runs closer to the 15th green, down the 16th fairway and alongside the green, further highlighting the genius and creativity of Flynn’s original design.

“You can see from all the hole drawings that Flynn routed the holes and implemented strategy based on Little Dry Creek,” Iverson says. “The way the creek plays now on these key holes brings exceptional strategy and challenge to these iconic approach shots. Holes 14 and 16, for example, are two of the finest and most difficult

par 4s in the country but now, with the creek coming in closer to each green, the shot values and premium on the angles into the green are off-the-charts.”

A CLASSIC RESTORED

The Renaissance team also reintroduced the famous cross bunkering on the 17th hole (which features the first island green on a par 5 built in the U.S.) and other strategic bunker work on the first, second, fourth, fifth, seventh, ninth, 14th and 16th holes. The green complexes on holes three and 13 were completely restored while other greens have been brought back to their original forms to ensure all green complexes match the original Flynn plans. A major tree management program was also implemented, and several holes were lengthened to accommodate the advances in the modern game. This includes new tee boxes on holes five, nine, 10, 11, 13, 14 and 16.

Flynn’s ingenious routing of Cherry Hills is truly unique among Top 100 courses. The opening nine weaves as a figure eight on the inside of the property while the second nine wraps in a counterclockwise circle around the perimeter. Cherry Hills is one of only a handful of courses with this unique “Muirfield Plan” routing, named after famed Muirfield in Scotland.

Flynn, whose design work also includes Shinnecock Hills Golf Club, The Country Club at Brookline, and The Kittansett Club, also did significant work at Pine Valley Golf Club and Merion Golf Club. His work at Pine Valley inspired the use of the interrupted fairways on several holes at Cherry Hills. Holes 14, 16 and 17 were also recognized among “The 500 World’s Greatest Golf Holes” by GOLF Magazine.

“The transformation that Tom Doak and Eric Iverson of Renaissance Golf Design have brought to William Flynn’s classic design brings extraordinary pride to our membership,” says Cherry Hills President David Keyte. “In 2022 we celebrated 100 years as a club, and in 2023 we will be celebrating the centennial of our first round of golf at Cherry Hills, which coincides with us hosting the U.S. Amateur, which is very exciting. The restored shot values on display next summer will certainly remind the golfing world of Cherry Hills’ timelessness and stature as a world-class championship venue.” For more information, visit www.CHCC.com.

The Club at Olde Cypress Reopens 34,000-SquareFoot Clubhouse Following

Final Renovation

The Club at Olde Cypress, one of the most vibrant, active and welcoming private clubs in Southwest Fla., has reopened its 34,000-square-foot clubhouse following the final phase of a major renovation of its interior and on the heels of a full-scale agronomic remastering of its golf course in 2021.

Inside Olde Cypress’ clubhouse, Winter Park-based Soco Interiors has transformed the golf shop, welcome area and offices with a contemporary palette of crisp whites, sophisticated grays and layered neutrals with accents of deep blue. The woodwork is painted a cool gray and blends perfectly with new silver and woodaccented pendant lighting and a modern sphere-shaped chandelier. Countertops are adorned with sleek Calacatta stone tops, and display areas for clothing and shoes create a neutral backdrop for displaying the latest fashion trends.

As part of the final phase, new custom mahogany doors were installed to welcome members into the new-look clubhouse. Oversized marble-look flooring and a palette of soft grays, blues, and white set the tone in the clubhouse’s bright, open spaces. Two gold-leafed glass chandeliers in the main hall serve as dramatic focal points, while new upholstered seating and fresh artwork add a contemporary touch. The lighter color scheme continues into the gallery and back hall with gray-toned luxury vinyl-wood plank flooring. New valances in a shimmery fabric contrast these light, sunny spaces.

“We all recognize how fortunate we are to be reopening our beautifully updated clubhouse during a time when the damage wrought by Hurricane Ian still impacts so many people in our region,” says Olde Cypress General Manager Ken Lanigan. “As we

celebrate and enjoy our new project, our ownership, leadership and members continue to assist our community in its rebuilding efforts.”

The clubhouse renovation is part of a multi-million-dollar investment in Olde Cypress by owner STOCK Development. In 2021, the club’s P.B. Dye-designed golf course underwent a full agronomic remastering including resurfacing of all 18 greens, practice green and chipping area with TifEagle Bermuda. Tee boxes were also enlarged, leveled and re-grassing with Bimini Bermuda. The installation of a new subsurface drainage system allows for the rapid expulsion of excess water. To complete the project, the course’s 98 bunkers were refreshed with new edging, contouring and visually-stunning sand.

In addition to the first floor, the clubhouse upstairs interiors were enhanced and refined. New artwork and accessories mix colorful, contemporary pieces with unique textural elements. The dining and ballroom spaces have been modernized with new lighting and flooring. The library has a lighter look with painted wood architectural details that contrast vividly with the fresh white walls.

The Club at Olde Cypress is the centerpiece of a highly soughtafter, 450-acre gated enclave with resale homes ranging from $950,000 to over $2.5 million. Over the past two years, residents and members have flocked to Old Cypress, lured by the 34,000-squarefoot clubhouse with fine and casual dining and its highly-regarded P.B. Dye golf course, the famed architect’s only design in Collier County.

Other amenities include tennis and pickleball courts, fitness center and pool and a 34,000-square-foot clubhouse featuring both casual and fine dining. The club and surrounding 540-acre gated community are located just minutes from the Naples’ famous beaches, world-class shopping on 5th Avenue, and the Southwest Florida International Airport.

Cape Club Of Palm City To Open November 18

Palm City, FL – The Cape Club of Palm City (formerly The Fox Club Florida) is set to open on November 18th following an extensive renovation to both the golf course and clubhouse. Acquired by The Cape Club Collection in May of this year, the 18-hole golf course and over 16,500 square-foot clubhouse have undergone significant improvements since closing on July 1st. Located 30 minutes north of the West Palm Beach airport, the renovated and rebranded facility will open as a premier private club, destined to be a crown jewel of Palm City and the Treasure Coast region.

“The excitement is reaching a fever pitch for the new Cape Club of Palm City,” said General Manager Kristi Tower. “We have been inundated with membership inquiries and are truly excited to unveil the club, and create lasting golf, social and culinary memories for our members and guests.”

New ownership has completed extensive renovations throughout the golf course, including newly landscaped areas around the course and clubhouse, renovated bunkers with brilliant “Augustawhite” bunker sand, new coquina cart paths, as well as enhanced agronomic conditions.

Clubhouse renovations include a completely renovated interior with a new dining room, bar, grand ballroom, a newly designed bridal suite and more. Additionally, the clubhouse now boasts an

expanded back patio that runs the width of the building with fire pits, a new sound system and views of the 9th hole (formerly the 18th).

“At first, we had a ‘lighter’ scope with regards to the clubhouse,” added Tower. “New ownership got in there and decide to make a bigger commitment and now nearly the entire of the clubhouse has been refined, refreshed and feels completely new throughout. Whether in the clubhouse, private dining room or expansive patio, our members will enjoy five-star cuisine served up in partnership with popular Chef’s Table.”

The club has also added a new fleet of custom Club Car golf carts featuring state-of-the-art GPS, Bluetooth-enabled upgraded speakers, coolers, in-cart ball/club washers, custom bucket seats and more.

“The golf course will serve up one of the most memorable golf experiences in the region for Cape Club members and guests,” said Cape Club’s Director of Golf Brett Melton. “We are excited to unveil to the golf world the new Cape Club of Palm City on November 18th.”

Capital improvements made by The Cape Club Collection represent a multi seven-figure investment on the golf course and clubhouse. Members of the rebranded and relaunched private club also have access to The Cape Club Collection sister courses, The Cape Club of Sharon and The Cape Club of Falmouth both located in Massachusetts.

Daytona Beach Golf Courses Reopen Following Recovery From Hurricane Ian

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – With clean up from Hurricane Ian well underway, the Daytona Beach Area continues to bounce back, including the area’s acclaimed golf courses, which are welcoming players for the popular fall season.

Home to nearly 20 courses, including LPGA International and a pair of Donald Ross designs, Daytona Beach is one of Central Florida’s most popular golf destinations, delivering the type of quality, value and good times group leaders relish.

Hurricane Ian brought high winds and rain, leaving golf courses to clean up debris and downed trees but largely avoiding any structural damage. Most of Daytona Beach’s courses reopened just days after the storm and now layouts across the area are hosting players with typically outstanding conditions.

“We are delighted to welcome golfers back to Daytona Beach,” said Lori Campbell-Baker, Executive Director for the Daytona Beach Area CVB. “Area golf courses were fortunate to avoid long-term damage, and players can look forward to their favorite Daytona

Beach area courses being in prime condition on their next trip to the area.”

With an average high temperature of 76 degrees in November, 71 in December and 69 in January, Daytona Beach is an idyllic winter golf destination.

Among Daytona Beach’s most prominent layouts are the Hills and Jones courses at LPGA International and Victoria Hills, a Ron Garl design that has been ranked among Florida’s best public courses. Ross designs New Smyrna Golf Club and the South Course at Daytona Beach Golf Club join historic Riviera Country Club as members of the Florida Historic Golf Trail.

The area complements its golf offerings with an array of restaurants and nightlife that guarantee a good time long after the final putt drops. Daytona Beach also features an assortment of accommodations, highlighted by luxury oceanfront condos that serve as the perfect base for a golf trip.

It is a unique, invigorating championship course where large troops of Barbados Green monkeys roam – and the clubhouse bar waits to welcome members and guests with a refreshing drink.

A golf performance and instruction center, lighted driving range, a par-3 short course, an additional 19th hole, and a finely appointed, contemporary clubhouse are planned to complement the championship course.

“Apes Hills will soon unveil Ron Kirby’s exceptional course redesign along with other golf operation amenities,” said Shepherd. “This will set in motion the first phase launch of the luxury offerings to come in the ensuing year, including homes, villas, and other amenities that will pamper and arouse the senses of residents, members and their guests.”

Chicago Golf Club to Host 2033 U.S. Women’s Open Presented by ProMedica and 2036 Walker Cup

The USGA today announced that Chicago Golf Club, in Wheaton, Ill., will be the host site for the 2033 U.S. Women’s Open Presented by ProMedica and the 2036 Walker Cup Match. The historic club has previously hosted 12 USGA championships, most recently the inaugural U.S. Senior Women’s Open in 2018.

“The history of the USGA and American golf can’t be told without Chicago Golf Club, and just over 125 years after hosting its first USGA championship, we’re thrilled to announce our return for two additional significant events,” said John Bodenhamer, USGA chief championships officer. “With the tremendous support of its members and some of the game’s most iconic architecture, we’re confident that Chicago Golf Club will deliver memorable moments and an opportunity for golf fans around the world to see one of America’s finest golf venues.”

Located in Chicago’s western suburbs, Chicago Golf Club was founded in 1892, debuted the first 18-hole course in the United States in 1893, and became one of five founding member clubs of the USGA in 1894. The storied club was established by Charles Blair Macdonald, who was the first U.S. Amateur champion in 1895 and served as the first vice president of the USGA.

Macdonald also designed the original Chicago Golf Club course, prior to Seth Raynor’s redesign that opened for play in 1923. The course recently underwent a restoration to return the original fairway lines and dimensions of all 128 bunkers on the course, including 13 bunkers that were reinstalled after the club discovered maps that indicated they were part of Raynor’s original layout.

“Hosting the best players in the world – men, women, amateur and professional – for USGA events is a point of pride for our club and a significant part of our long history,” said Herb Getz, Chicago Golf Club president. “We very much look forward to building upon that history and continuing our valued partnership with the USGA on

an even larger stage well into the future.”

The venue has staged USGA championships in three centuries – U.S. Open (1897, 1900 and 1911); U.S. Amateur (1897, 1905, 1909 and 1912); U.S. Women’s Amateur (1903); Walker Cup (1928 and 2005); U.S. Senior Amateur (1979) and U.S. Senior Women’s Open (2018). Only six courses have hosted more USGA events than Chicago Golf Club’s 12, and Illinois’ 61 championships are the fifthmost of any state.

USA captain Bob Lewis called the 2005 Walker Cup Match at Chicago Golf Club “the greatest Walker Cup ever played” after the Americans held off Great Britain and Ireland, 12½-11½, to reclaim the Cup after three straight defeats. In 2018, Laura Davies won the inaugural U.S. Senior Women’s Open with a dominant 16-under-par, 10-stroke victory over Juli Inkster at Chicago Golf Club.

“Winning a USGA championship is always special, but winning one at Chicago Golf Club, one of the finest golf courses in the world, makes it even more so, and hoisting a trophy there in 2018 was a highlight of my career,” said Davies, who also won the 1987 U.S. Women’s Open. “Chicago Golf Club is a great test of golf within a supportive golf community. It should make for a fantastic U.S. Women’s Open venue and will certainly crown a worthy champion.”

Earlier this year, Minjee Lee of Australia claimed the 77th U.S. Women’s Open title with a record-setting four-stroke victory at Pine Needles Lodge & Golf Club in Southern Pines, N.C., joining a Hall-of-Fame group of players who have won both the U.S. Girls’ Junior and U.S. Women’s Open. The championship is open to female professionals and amateurs with a Handicap Index® not exceeding 2.4.

In 2021, the USA claimed its third consecutive victory over Great Britain and Ireland, prevailing by a 14-12 margin in the 48th Walker Cup Match at Seminole Golf Club in Juno Beach, Fla. Jointly organized by the USGA and The R&A, the Walker Cup Match is a 10-player amateur team competition between the USA and GB&I. Starting in 2026, the match will be held in even-numbered years.

RADMOR Dropping Fall Line with New Styles, Colors and More

Golf hoodie season is officially here for many parts of the country. In other words, it’s prime time to shine for Seattle-based RADMOR Golf. Founded by two college golf teammates in 2021, RADMOR is the first golf lifestyle brand making all its apparel from meticulouslycurated, sustainable materials.

According to Co-Founder Scott Morrison, the full fall line of tops, bottoms, outerwear and accessories will be available midOctober at its website, a growing number of golf shops throughout the U.S., Nordstrom stores nationwide, and affiliate sites like Golf. com, Huckberry.com, TrendyGolf.com, FairwayStyles.com and Saksfifthavenue.com.

2021. The college roommates and golf teammates at the University of Washington first discussed changing the face of golf apparel in the mid-90s, and today that vision is finally a reality. After graduating from the “U-Dub,” Conrad played golf professionally and still maintains a plus handicap. Supplying serious fashion acumen, Morrison helmed three of America’s top denim brands – Paper Denim & Cloth, 3x1 and Earnest Sewn.

The dynamic duo’s passion for the harmonic convergence of fashion and performance is evident in subtle design treatments such as RADMOR’s MORE/EROM (Extended Range of Motion) underarm pattern prominently featured in golf shirts, layering pieces, and outerwear. Functional-yet-fun details like a signature “ball pocket” can also be found on outerwear, pants and shorts. RADMOR is defined by its commitment to using natural fibers and reducing our impact on the environment while producing the highest quality golf apparel possible.

“RADMOR” is a playful blend of Morrison and Conrad’s last names and represents the brand’s dichotomy. Its secondary logo, “BobRad,” is a whimsical cartoon aiming to bring golf to those who find the sport too stuffy. Meanwhile, RADMOR’s “serious golf side” is reflected in its “Dead Center” ball and cup logo that appears throughout most of its collections and appeals to its green grass partners at high-end clubs and resorts.

Back to the fall line, it just wouldn’t be a RADMOR drop without toasty warm, performance-based, all-cotton hoodies and sweatshirts. The ever-popular Higgins Player Hoodie and Perkins Player Crew are spun-up in crisp blue graphite and birch to pair perfectly with a set of Five-O Knit or Vincent pants (as temps drop across most the country) or shorts (for golfers living in milder regions). And for those who prefer a more traditional fall look, there’s the brand-new Colton Cap Stripe Quarter Zip.

RADMOR’s fall Women’s line will also feature an autumninspired mix of its Lauren Bobrad Stretch Polos, Oliva Bobrad Long Sleeve and Sleeveless Jerseys, and Michele Bobrad Stretch Pique Polos. All RADMOR sustainably-sourced golf clothing forgoes virgin polyester in favor of natural cellulose fibers like Peruvian Pima cotton, elastane yarns, and super-soft Tencel to create the most ecominded golf apparel in the industry.

TRUE linkswear Debuts All Day Pants

TACOMA, WA – TRUE linkswear (TRUE), purveyors of comfortable, modern golf footwear designed for the rigors of walking amid the elements, today announces the debut of its All Day 5-Pocket and All Day Chino Pants for men.

“Fall is right in RADMOR’s wheelhouse; it’s a season that sets up perfectly for our approach to creating warm, comfortable and sustainable apparel that looks just as good off the course as on it,” says Morrison, who met his business partner, Bob Conrad, at the University of Washington. “We’re excited about the fall line’s mix of best-sellers and new pieces, but more importantly, to take our commitment to a more sustainable version of golf to the next level.”

RADMOR’s autumn offerings are rich with sepia, earth and powerful blue and red tones to usher in the cooler climes of the fall golf season. Seminole Legacy

A Nicklaus Legacy Design That’s Tops in the State

There are a growing number of golfers who feel that Florida is the Golf Capital of the US. Golfers from up north flock to the Sunshine State every winter to bask in the warmth and keep their golf game alive for when they return home. It’s home to some of the best courses, they are open year-round, and their colleges have produced quite a few PGA TOUR players.

Lee Janzen and Rocco Mediate went to Florida Southern University. Andy Bean and Chris DiMarco attended the University of Florida. Brooks Koepka, Daniel Berger, Hank Lebioda, Chase Seiffert, George McNeill, and Jonas Blixt all played at Florida State. And just last week, proud FSU alum Vincent Norrman punched his ticket to the PGA TOUR

for 2023.

Not to be outdone, the Women’s golf team had six players added to the ACC Academic Honor Roll, including Amelia Williamson, who was named the 2022 Women’s Golf Student-Athlete of the Year.

One of the reasons the FSU program is so successful has a lot to do with where they practice and play, and that facility just got exponentially better! The golf course at Florida State was originally built by William Amick and opened for play in 1962. The course was renovated by Bob Walker in 2004 and remained virtually untouched until a few years ago. When it was time for another renovation, legendary PGA TOUR golfer and course designer Jack Nicklaus threw his

SELECTION

hat into the ring. His pitch to the FSU board was that he was now a Florida resident and had several family members that had attended the school. For these reasons, he should be given the contract.

Oh, and he said that instead of his usual $2 million design and consultation fee, he wanted to win this bid so he would do it for $1. Apparently, there were no lower bids, and the Nicklaus Design Company was awarded the contract. The Don Veller Seminole Golf Course was getting a makeover…and a slightly new name.

The Don Veller Seminole Legacy Golf Course is a Nicklaus Legacy Design, meaning it’s a collaboration between Jack Nicklaus and his son Jack II. General Manager Jaxon Hardy

said, “Jack II spent quite a bit of time on site, guiding the design and construction process. The Golden Bear himself was out many times as well.”

The original golf course sat on about 210 acres, including two driving ranges, a short game area, and a 7,147-yard par-73 golf course. The new golf course plays over 7,800 yards with a par 72 and sits on a lot less land - 174 acres. That includes two ranges and a new 12-hole par 3 course.

Strap yourself in; Seminole Legacy is a roller coaster ride up and down fairways to meticulously maintained greens. Along the way, you’ll encounter the usual hazards like sand and water and the occasional stand of trees. That’s not to say it’s not fun, it’s both fun and challenging. I’ve played

CLUB SELECTION

Nicklaus courses where it seems that, as Robin Williams once said, “They put a flag in, to give you hope.”

The golf course is meticulously maintained. Green surrounds are mowed very closely, so unless you’re a proficient short gamer, you’ll find yourself taking the putter out of the bag and putting your ball from well off the green.

Greens seem to be Nicklaus’ bread and butter, especially on his signature courses, and having played several Nicklaus designs around the country, I bet that Jack had a lot of input into the designs and contours of these greens. Like many Nicklaus courses, it takes a few rounds to get the feel of the course, where to aim your tee shots, and where to hit your ball on the green and get it close to the pin. A case in point is the green on Number 18; it’s undoubtedly the most memorable green on the golf course and easily a two or three club difference between a front and back pin placement.

Unlike most courses in Florida, Seminole Legacy has enough elevation change to it that there are several blind shots, This is especially true on the par 5s which debunk the myth that there are “no elevation changes in Florida.” Tee shots on the first three par 5s are blind and play uphill, so it

helps to know the course.

Seminole Legacy has several that you’ll remember long after your ride home. Number 2 is short par 4, which I will call “Decision” because of the large live oak tree in the middle of the landing area off the tee. You need to decide if you’re going to play your tee shot left or right of it. Hit a good drive and you’ll leave a short chip shot into the green on this 335-yard hole (Gold Tees).

Number 3 is 160-yard, par 3 that plays downhill and is well-bunkered with deep bunkers left and one back right. The green is long and narrow with a lot of undulation and slopes back to front. It’s very quick with a downhill putt.

The par 5, 4th hole at Seminole Legacy was so much fun, I had to play it twice! It’s a slight dogleg left with a blind tee shot up a hill. If you can hit it over the trap on the left, you can cut off a significant portion of this hole and give yourself a good chance to get on in two. If getting on in two is out of your range, your best bet is to lay up short of the fairway bunkers. This will leave a short pitch shot into a very tricky green that slopes right to left.

Nicklaus throws in a great risk/reward opportunity on the short par 4, 8th hole. From the Gold Tees, the hole

20 Golf Vacations • November 2022 www.golfvacationsmag.com

TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA

plays 260 yards with water down the entire left side up to the green. Nasty little pot bunkers dot the landscape in the area that would make for an easy layup and pitch shot. Instead, the bailout area to the left presents a challenge as you’ll be pitching uphill towards the lake. It’s a short hole that can make or break a good round.

The last three holes will define your round at the Seminole Legacy Golf Club. Number 16 is a 400-yard test of golf. This daunting par 4 starts with a blind tee shot to a downhill landing zone that slopes to the right. Favoring the left side of the fairway will leave the best angle into the green. A good drive will leave a mid to long-iron into a green that slopes front to back and is guarded by water on the left. It’s also one of the smallest greens on the course. Take a par and be happy.

Number 17 is a 370-yard par 4 with trees framing both sides of the fairway off the tee. The fairway is narrow and plays entirely uphill. Success off the tee will reward you with a mid to short iron uphill over sand traps into a well-undulated green with a severe false front on the left and several tiers. Being on the right tier is essential to scoring well.

Even from the Gold Tees, Number 18 is a long, 435-yard par 4. This slight dogleg left plays downhill off the tee and then back uphill. Avoiding the fairway bunkers in the landing area on the left side off the tee makes par – or better – a lot more realistic. The green is one of the largest and most interesting greens I have ever played. It’s protected by a bunker on the right unless it’s a back point, then the bunker’s in front. The back right portion of the green sits at least two feet below the rest of the green. Jaxon Hardy says this is one of the easiest pin placements. Maybe, if you’ve played here before. In any

Visit Panama and Play Golf

Panama City, Panama turned 500 years old in 2019. It was the first European settlement on the Pacific coast of the Americas. Unlike most countries that have a north-south orientation, Panama lies east-west with the Caribbean Sea to the north and the Pacific Ocean to the south. A good way to think about this is Panama lies parallel to, and 9 degrees north of, the equator making the daylight shorter and the air humid. The Panamanian seasons are the reverse of North America’s. Summer is from December 15th through April 15th.

The decision to build the Panama Canal through Panama, versus one of its close neighboring countries, was based on less seismic activity demonstrated by an arch built in a downtown building that has been standing for over 250 years with no weaknesses. Of course, the reason for a canal was to save the 13,000 miles it takes to go around the southern tip of South America and rounding Cape Horn which is a very dangerous passage. This was not a new idea as it was first

mentioned in the 1500’s, worked on in the late 1800s and finally completed in 1914. It really is an engineering marvel!

Twelve locks are used to lift a ship between 31 feet and 85 feet, the highest elevation, before bringing it back down again. Close to Panama City is the set of Miraflores Locks where visitors can observe ships being raised and lowered as they pass through the canal. Larger ships are being built since the canal was built so a new set of locks was recently completed to accommodate them. An important note that not many people know is that the locks at the Panama Canal are the direct result of an invention by Leonardo da Vinci in the late 1400’s. His miter lock is still in use today at almost any canal or waterway. If you are at the Miraflores Locks, visit the IMAX theater and watch the 42-minute show about the canal. You can also learn more about the working of the canal by watching this video: biggeekdad.com/2019/07/how-thepanama-canal-works

A short ten-minute drive from the Panama airport, Tocumen International Airport (PTY), is The Santa Maria, a five-star Luxury Collection Hotel & Golf Resort and part of the Marriott Family. Upon arrival, the exceptional staff service begins and continues through your stay. The hotel is just over a year old and is delightfully furnished. This beautiful eight story hotel has 182 luxurious guestrooms and suites, featuring authentic Panamanian design elements, including showers with a choice of overhead “rain forest” heads and/or traditional shower heads.

The main restaurants include: Mestizo Restaurant serves gourmet food; The Grill House features fine meat cuts, fresh seafood and a wonderful selection of fine wines; AQVA offers casual fare poolside. Also, there is a coffee shop and deli offering a fresh cup of Boquete’s rare and winning Geisha coffee blend. There is a state-of-the-art spa, a fitness center with rejuvenating natural light, an outdoor pool overlooking the golf course, and exceptional meeting and event spaces.

Adjacent to the hotel is the only Championship-Nicklaus design 18-hole, par 72 golf course in Panama City. You are guaranteed a wonderfully conditioned course because it is

managed by the world’s largest golf management company, Troon. Many of the fairways have gentle rolling terrain, doglegs in both directions, sand bunkering located in strategic locations, very interesting greens and water on ten of the holes. By moving the tees, the holes require different strategies and the golf course’s defense is definitely the greens; they are large and undulating.

There is a great variety of long and short holes, with generous landing areas off the tee. These features provide a challenging but fun day of golf for all skill levels. As you make your way around the course, your attention will be drawn to a very beautiful tree, El Flamboyán, or “Flame Tree” with brilliant red flowers. The golf club also includes a very nicely appointed golf shop, driving range, short game chipping area and putting green. Newly added is the Punch Bowl, a very large putting green to have fun with your friends after golf. santamariahotelpanama.com

This hotel is part of a 988-acre master plan community offering 118 guestrooms, suites and villas, nine restaurants and bars, seven swimming pools, four plunge pools, two Jacuzzis, a spa and fitness center, horse stables with more than five miles of trails, a Nicklaus Design 18-Hole golf course and on-site chapel.

A Sports Club complex created for the whole family features a full-size soccer field, outdoor basketball court, tennis courts, paddle court, beach volleyball court, a semiOlympic pool and multipurpose room for yoga, Pilates and Zumba. The resort offers two miles of white sand beach along the Pacific Ocean to play in the surf; perfect for the family get-away.

A focal point of the guest experience is the Nicklaus par72 championship golf course managed by Troon. The course offers generous fairways with strategic bunkering, mildly undulating greens, dog-leg fairways, a multitude of mature Corotu trees and plenty of water. The golf club also includes a driving range, short game, chipping and putting green. In November 2018, the Buenaventura Golf Club was named “Panama’s best golf course” by World Golf Awards for the second time. If someone you know is planning a wedding or other event, Buenaventura’s expansive property offers multiple venues from the on-site La Ermita Chapel to the Spanishstyle plaza under a 100-year-old Corotu Tree, to the chic El

Visiting parts of Panama City is like taking a step back in time. Narrow streets, quaint buildings, very old churches and statutes of past important founders of the city. The other part is like visiting some major big city with a vast number of skyscrapers with high-rise condos and 78 banks as Panama is a major banking country. In case you like traveling without the hassle of taking your golf clubs on the airline, both of Nicklaus’ courses offer very fine Callaway rental clubs. They also have wall to wall Paspalum grass which you will want to play over and over. visitpanama.com

attention to details are the hallmarks of Tintswalo Atlantic. Every member of the staff is so amazingly kind, attentive, professional and genuinely pleasant- the hallmark of all Tintswalo properties.

Getting to South Africa from the United States, Canada, or Mexico, whether to Johannesburg or Cape Town, is a long flight from the West Coast (24 hours actual flying) and from Atlanta (17+ hours). The most highly recommended air carriers are Qatar Airways from LAX, United from Newark, NJ, Delta, or Emirates Air which is also marvelous.

Of course, you can also travel through New York or any other major US city and stopover in Europe, or fly direct to Johannesburg and make that your main base in South Africa. Any way you look at it, it’s a long trip, but worth every minute of travel time.

I highly recommend the service on Qatar’s Business Class/ First Class, as it is beyond amazing. The seats, with their oversized personal TVs and sleeping pods, are so enjoyable. On-call food service is over the top – at any time, you can order any item from the menu.

To really enjoy your visit, always take the time to learn a few words of the local language such as Afrikaans and Fanagalo. Fanagalo is a pidgin (simplified language) based primarily on Zulu, with English and a small Afrikaans input.

The rate of exchange for the South African Rand at the time of writing is 17 Rands to every $1.00. Unbelievable value awaits, especially at upscale and luxurious hotels, game reserves and fabulous restaurants.

Tintswalo Atlantic – the Hidden Gem of Cape Town

There are many beautiful beach hotels throughout the world. The 5-star luxury Tintswalo Atlantic Lodge has to be one of the top ten boutique hotels anywhere! What an amazing and very special romantic hideaway. And it is only twenty minutes from downtown Cape Town. My wife and I spent our 52nd wedding anniversary here at Tintswalo Atlantic.

The hotel boasts an exclusive and unique shoreline location within the protected Table Mountain National Park, one of South Africa’s eight World Heritage Sites, situated just outside of Hout Bay, on the scenic Chapman’s Peak drive. The pebbled beach directly in front of the lodge is secluded and sheltered from winds. There is excellent access to the natural beauty found along the mountainside’s winding hiking trails. This gorgeous, dramatic and romantic destination needs to be on your Bucket List! When we sent some photos to a friend, she replied “you didn’t say you were travelling to heaven”. And every vista is truly “heavenly”.

Superlatives cannot do the hotel justice. From its location, the structure, the access, the rooms, the service, the food and the staff,

The regal Presidential suite, sitting above the other suites, is stunning, opulent and luxurious. The two master suites, each with the largest and most lavish bathrooms I have ever enjoyed, together with heated floors and fireplaces in each room are tantalizing. The enormous bath overlooking the waters of Hout Bay was, without a doubt, my wife’s favorite feature. And to top it off, there is another room, the sitting area, also with a fireplace, making being spoiled a wonderful experience.

Having all your meals at the lodge is simply amazing with the sea lapping against the rocks, making a wonderful backdrop. The menu choices available for breakfast, lunch and dinner are terrific. The chefs produce exquisite, extraordinary cuisine. You really do not want, or need, to leave the lodge. Sitting out on the patio or at the pool (in summer) – reading, talking, having tea, looking for whales, meditating, or just communing with nature is a life affirming experience. Cuban cigars are available, as is Sherry, to enjoy on your balcony.

Don’t forget to ask for your personal wishing rock at reception before leaving. You do really want to wish to come back regularly when you toss the rock over your left shoulder into the ocean.

Melissa and Ryno, the GMs are superb hosts who make Tintswalo even more fabulous.

Rates will vary depending on the season. Expect to pay somewhere between $400 and $700 per couple, per night, for one of the suites. The Presidential Suite is going to come in at about $2,000.00 per couple per night. Breakfast, house drinks, coffee and teas are included. Guests who join you for dinner will be in the $50-$60 per person range without wine.

If you are not able to stay overnight, at least try and make a reservation for breakfast, lunch, or early dinner – you will not be disappointed! Sunrise and sunset like you’ve never, ever seen before…

Tintswalo at Boulders

In my opinion, most every visitor to South Africa should share the joy and pleasure of visiting a Tintswalo lodge.

Tintswalo Lodges are an exquisite collection of five family-owned and run properties situated in unique locations within South Africa.

Most every visitor to Cape Town wants to go and see the endangered African

Penguins at the Boulders in Simon’s Town. The “boulders” are in fact granite boulders on the beaches of the Indian Ocean.

I highly recommend staying at the Tintswalo Boulders, which is a triple level, 9-room luxury boutique villa perched on the beachfront that overlooks the famed Boulders Beach, in Simon’s Town, about 20 miles from Cape Town.

The villa boasts 180-degree ocean vistas

from where guests can enjoy uninterrupted views of the playful African penguins on the beach below. You have your own key to the Boulders boardwalk, which is an experience itself, being able to get up close to nesting penguins without disturbing them or their nests.

With a rich mingling of azure, blue and greens, and dark wood fittings, the luxury suites are named after famous ships. Suites are individually decorated to pay homage to maritime history and the location of the villa outside the naval village of Simon’s Town. These range from the Mayflower and the Cutty Sark, to Jan van Riebeeck’s Drommedaris.

There are two Premier suites (Drommedaris and Sea-Witch) which I highly recommend because of their views and size and being adjacent to the rooftop plunge pool. However, with the exception of the Victory suite, which has its own private courtyard, all enjoy views of the ocean.

Standard amenities are air-conditioning, Wi-Fi, tea and coffee facilities, a minibar, and a television. Premier suites have gas fireplaces as well. Bathrooms are large and well-appointed with separate tubs and showers.

The Boutique Villa operates on a bed and breakfast basis with lunch and dinner

served on request. Breakfast is a feast featuring phenomenal bread baked on the premises, fresh fruit and juice, yoghurts, cereals, homemade pastries, muesli, and a selection of local cheeses. The spinach and feta quiches, hash browns with bacon and egg, mushroom fritters, lemon and chive tart are amazingly delicious. Special dietary needs or preferences are upon request.

For golfers, two outstanding golf courses await – the Hermanus Golf Club with its amazing 27- holes and the very upscale Arabella a few kilometers from downtown Hermanus.

Overlooking the whale-filled oceans of Walker Bay, Hermanus Boutique Guest House is great for a coastal walk and is only a few minutes from the local center for restaurants and shops. Make sure

you visit the famous Fick’s Pool immediately across the road.

Gondwana Private Game Reserve

Still craving another authentic, breathtaking African experience? Then, you are in luck! Just under four hours away from Cape Town, along the famous Garden Route, lies the Gondwana Game Reserve.

In paleogeography, Gondwana, originally Gondwanaland, is the name given to the more southerly of two supercontinents

30 Golf Vacations • November 2022 www.golfvacationsmag.com

which were part of the Pangaea supercontinent that existed from approximately 510 to 180 million years ago. ~ Wikipedia

Gondwana is accessibly situated 25 minutes outside the charming coastal town of Mossel Bay. George Airport is only a 45-minute drive from the game reserve (transfers can be arranged) with daily flights from Johannesburg International Airport (JNB, O. R. Tambo) and Cape Town International Airport (CPT).

As a Garden Route Game Reserve, Gondwana shares the region’s idyllic climate, second most moderate in the world next to Hawaii, according to the Guinness Book of World Records, with average temperatures between 13°C / 55°F in June, and 19°C / 66°F in January. The game reserve’s warm climate offers exceptional year-round Game Viewing while you enjoy a Luxury African Safari Experience. During South Africa’s winter months, it can be quite chilly on a night game drive, so take appropriate clothing.

Gondwana is a 26,000 acre malaria free, luxurious Private Game Park offering free-roaming Big 5 safari animals (lion, buffalo, elephant, rhino, and leopard). Indigenous Fynbos vegetation cloaks the undulating valleys, adding vivid color and interest to a Big 5 game viewing and wilderness experience.

Many species of wildlife, including eland, giraffe, elephant, hippo, cheetah and zebra can be seen on the majestic landscape with awe-inspiring views of the Swartberg and Outeniqua Mountains in every direction.

At Gondwana you will receive attentive service, wholesome and delicious African Cuisine, inspiring interiors, expert Game Rangers, and an array of activities including sunrise and sunset game drives

with sundowners with snacks and drinks, Mountain Biking, Hikes, Africology spa treatments, and the popular Junior Ranger program. Hennie, our driver and guide, knows the bush intimately. His vast knowledge is only surpassed by his love and passion for making every game drive memorable. He has an appreciation and understanding of all aspects of the game reserve and conservation and nature. Bianca, the GM, was always there when needed and expertly guided every aspect of making our African experience truly unforgettable.

Bush Villa

Gondwana’s Fynbos Villas and Bush Villas offer the luxury amenities of a Safari Lodge with all the comforts of home, ideal for families and groups of friends. Each stylish villa offers spacious, open plan interiors with three or four en-suite bedrooms. Each villa is situated for complete privacy and awe-inspiring views from their expansive outdoor decks.

Various packages can be booked with the villa accommodation from Full Board (3 gourmet meals at the nearby Kwena Lodge and 2 daily game drives) to Half Board (breakfast and dinner), to the B&B and Daily Game Drive package. The B&B package allows for family barbeques in your villa and time to explore the surrounding Garden Route.

We absolutely loved our stay in the luxury accommodation of a Kwena Lodge. A Kwena Lodge is a modern and luxurious twist on the traditional Khoi-San dwelling. Fourteen open-plan suites are nestled into the breathtaking natural surroundings with 180-degree views, sky lights for star gazing, fireplaces and deep baths in which to relax upon returning from an evening game drive.

Apparently the elephants of Gondwana also love the Kwena Lodges, especially the swimming pool. Pinnacle Point Beach & Golf Resort

Pinnacle Point is about 20 minutes away from Gondwana Game Reserve. Superbly situated close to Mossel Bay on the edge of the magnificent coastline that signals the gateway to the Garden Route, Pinnacle Point epitomizes coastal luxury and exclusive living. This development, especially the golf course, will knock your socks off.

Sure there is Cypress Point, Pebble Beach, Bandon Dunes, Kingsbarn, Torrey Pines and Cape Kidnappers, and they are marvelous, but Pinnacle Point is in a class of its own! It’s the new Garden of Eden of golf. Pinnacle Point was recently voted one of the top ten golf courses in the world – it’s that good!

Nestled in an unspoilt natural paradise, embraced by the warm Indian Ocean, Pinnacle Point is situated at the gateway to the Garden Route in South Africa. The resort is just a 3-hour drive from Cape Town and a 20-minute drive from George International Airport, which in turn is only a short 1-hour flight from Cape Town International Airport.

Pinnacle Point lies on a huge property of 400 hectares right at the sea and looks down on four kilometers of spectacular coastline and boasts dramatic cliff-side holes and over 1000 hectares of unspoiled beachfront of which 100 is a nature reserve. The championship course was designed by Darren Clarke and Peter Matcovitch, who himself called it the most dramatic course he had ever worked on. Several of the holes are situated right above the ocean.

The emerald green fairways and tees provide the perfect surface for making shots, and the bent grass greens will ensure a challenging and entertaining game. The views, especially from the ultra-modern clubhouse, are awe inspiring, with dramatic coastal views of the ocean from all areas of the course. Some of the holes are situated along the cliff side. In addition to this, the natural beauty of the indigenous flora and fauna complete this unique golfing experience. In fact, the resort is home to indigenous wildlife, bird life and 264 varieties of fynbos - a nature lover’s delight!

Ernie Els’ Oubaai Golf Course – Herold’s Bay, George, Garden Route, Western Cape.

Oubaai, an 18-hole Championship Golf Course, is just 8 kilometers from George and approximately 60 kilometers from Knysna. It is also near Herold’s Bay (and his beloved Bosvelt Saloon bar) which is one of his favorite holiday homes. His father Neels, lives two doors down. Ernie and his team have taken full advantage of the spectacular site they were given. Playing the course, your views and outlooks take in forest, sea, river and mountain –

Spectacular!

The dramatic golf clubhouse overlooks the 16th, 17th and 18th greens and offers open air terraces and panoramic views of the Indian Ocean, Outeniqua Mountains, natural forests and the Gwaing River Valley.

Not only is the course memorable and scenic, the course also fairly displays challenges and hazards whilst affording players the opportunity to use a full range of shots and plan strategically for individual holes. More importantly, it flows so well. Ernie did a magnificent job in his approach to golf course design which is primarily centered on flexibility and enhancement of the surrounding environment. Concepts are molded according to the

Hall of Fame’s Retief Goosen’s wine estate (www.thegoosewines. com) is near the town of George (Brenden Grace’s stomping grounds). The Goose Wine range is truly unique as it is handcrafted in high altitude vineyards on the northern slopes of the Outeniqua Mountains which is in the heart of the Garden Route, South Africa.

The Goose wine estate is situated in the Upper-Langkloof appellation, arguably the coldest wine growing region in South Africa. These extreme climatic conditions ensure unique grapes with a complexity of fruit that are handcrafted into world-class wines.

There are great swimming and surfing beaches that offer a

variety of activities. Then, less than an hour away are the attractive coastal towns of Mossel Bay (think Louis Oosthuizen), Knysna and Plettenberg Bay, each offering unique cultural and natural highlights and a range of things to do.

Steenberg Hotel & Golf Club

Twenty minutes away from the bustling center of Cape Town is the amazing 5-Star Steenberg Hotel, award winning winery and golf course. The 30-bedroom hotel nestles in the tranquil Constantia Valley, against the slopes of the Steenberg Mountain. It is, without doubt, the ultimate Cape experience. This luxurious estate is designated as a National Monument and is the oldest wine farm in the Cape Peninsula. The scenery is breathtaking and its championship golf course is outstanding.

Steenberg offers the elegant and exclusive Bistro 1652 and the Terrace Restaurant, a producing wine cellar, and all the facilities of a top-class country hotel, yours to enjoy at whatever pace you choose.

This stunning boutique hotel is a haven of serenity with a choice of 30 elegant, air-conditioned rooms, the best being the contemporary design rooms, rather than those more chintz-clad— housed in the original manor house, barn and jonkershuis (house of the eldest son). Each en-suite room is tastefully furnished with exquisite antiques and all rooms overlook the vineyards, golf course or manicured gardens.

These beautifully renovated white-walled Cape Dutch buildings are grouped around a large manicured grass courtyard.

Amenities include an on-site hairstylist and beauty consultant and a gymnasium. Guests can shed their cares and surrender themselves to the upper level quality of personal service, unique to a small luxury hotel.

The Steenberg golf course is a wonderful golfing experience

and is well known for its hybrid design by renowned South African golf course architect, Pete Matkovitch.

Opened in 1995, the course attracts golfers wanting a total golfing experience. Tradition is represented by aprons of bent grass around the greens that allow for the bump and run—a shot rarely seen in South Africa, where robust kikuyu grass usually takes this option off the table. The radical hybrid change instituted comes in the shape of sand- and water-protected island greens and waste areas (a la Pete Dye?) hugging entire fairways.

The club house has recently undergone an extensive renovation. Remember, irrespective of your score, you’ll want to try a glass of Steenberg’s stunning merlot at the nineteenth hole.

On the way back to Cape Town, make sure you visit the Stony Point Penguin Colony at Betty’s Bay, the Haute Cabriere Winery (www.cabriere.co.za) in Franschoek, of which I am a part owner, and Ernie Els’s Winery in Stellenbosch.

Cape Town restaurants are marvelous and with the Rand to Dollar conversion, any restaurant is an unbelievable bargain. You will be hard pressed to spend $50 for 4 people with wine!

Amongst our favorites and highly recommended are the following restaurants in and around Cape Town:

Magica Roma – Italian food at its best- Ask for Etzio.

Nelson’s Eye – Best steaks in South Africa since the 1960’s.

Delicious Fish - Hake and chips are awesome. Take out only.

SWEETSTUFF

collar blocks away any wind and rain. This jacket is breathable and soft because of the brushed back Jacquard knit fabric--yet does an excellent job in keeping the cold winds out. It has a classic fit that does not bind when you swing and more than enough pockets—including on the sides to keep your hands warm; a zippered chest pocket that easily takes a cell phone and two inside pockets for loads of accessories like gloves, tees, etc. The adjustable collar has a drawstring if it gets wet or windy to make the jacket even warmer.

The finishing touch to this collection are the ThermoSeries pants, which perform like an insulated rain pant but are designed to be worn as a stand-alone golf pant with features like a button closure, zip fly and belt loops. The pant uses a brushed back stretch woven fabric that is slightly heavier than a normal golf pant while offering great stretch properties and just enough warmth for cooler days, along with a gripper waist for a non-slip fit. A DWR finish is used on the pant to repel a light rain or mist. The available colors include navy and charcoal.

“We wanted this collection to work in conjunction with each other and with other pieces in the FJ line,” continued Skurla. “Navy & Charcoal are the featured base colors with some added Blue / Grey and Light Stone to compliment. These colors work well with bright colors, prints and patterns and a number of other combinations.”

The color palette of the complete collection is neutral for a reason – it allows golfers to interchange all of the pieces from the collection to create many different outfits and layering options.

FootJoy ThermoSeries

FootJoy recently introduced what is the company’s most unique and versatile line of clothing designed for golfing in the cooler months of the year—yet with an eye towards the swing in temperatures that players often find during a day of play during the fall and winter months.

Weather is unpredictable, and the new ThermoSeries™ collection of base layers, mid-layers, outer layers and even pants from FootJoy designed for this time of year can go a long way towards making rounds more comfortable despite colder conditions. The idea is as the day evolves—what you wear can evolve with it.

“Coming off of the successful launch of our HydroSeries™ line of rain jackets, we saw a terrific opportunity to develop a thermal line of apparel that is built for cooler conditions,” said PJ Skurla, Director of Design, FootJoy Apparel. “The idea was to create a collection of pieces designed specifically for layering, so that the golfer can easily adapt as conditions change.”

The foundation to the ThermoSeries system is the base layer, which feels great against your skin and provides insulation while allowing full range of motion. The textured hex pattern—another element that carries thru this collection--allows your body to breath and stay dry—even while working up a sweat walking the course.

Next is the mid-layer, featuring a rich, two-tone jacquard fabric available in three colors. The mid-layer is lightweight for optimal layering, packed with performance stretch materials designed for the golf swing.

The vest and the jacket are two available options to layer over the mid-layer for added warmth and can be used together or individually— as the weather conditions call for. The vest, available in two colorways, features a simple, lightweight design with an insulated body.

The Jacket offers a combination of knit and woven fabric—and is available in two colors. The knit fabric provides warmth and comfort, while the woven material on the front of the body and outside of the

The Wyeth jacket is the perfect layer piece for changing seasons. It has ageless style and a good loose and casual fit that is comfortable yet stylish. With two chest pockets that have snap closures; snap closures down the front and a soft, warm feel that comes in handy as the weather turns, this jacket will fit right in with about any wardrobe. A nice complementary piece for the Wyeth jacket is the colored denim jeans that are super comfortable and yet stylish enough for on course or just hanging out—a true Linksoul original. A stylish alternative to traditional counting tools, Golf Goddess bracelets can be worn on the course or for evening cocktails—and can be paired with the Chelsea Charles golf-inspired earrings and necklaces-- or purchased as a gift set.

Chelsea Charles specializes in pretty, minimalist, golf-inspired jewelry that also includes very fashionable earrings and necklaces. A wonderfully comfortable hybrid pant/lounging bottoms, this versatile garment will work for many situations.
