The main concept is based on the idea of considering the soap bubble as the closest way to materialize the magical colors of the aurora borealis through his reflection on the building surface.

The control of the bubble shape was based in a metaball logic and inspired by the geodesic structures of Frey Otto and Buckminster Fuller. The final shape allow us to connect the building with the surrounding nature without being too much invasive, especially on the existing trees. To solve the different densities on the faรงade, we made a transition area between translucent and opaque that guives the idea of soap bubble exploding by the touch.

The closure of many existent textile factories in Guimarães has become recurrent over the last decades and is already clear the percentage of industrial buildings that is abandoned. But over this phenomenon of deindustrialization, Guimarães developed the ability to reinvent itself and turned to the preservation and redevelopment of these spaces and saw them as an opportunity for economic and social growth. This proposal aims to follow the same principles of preservation and tribute to the region's industrial legacy, but also to rise the artistic potential of the textile. It didn’t take long to understand that was lacking a museological equipment that collects an entire serie of industrial equipment that reports the history of the city and the process for textile production from the traditional methods to the most contemporary. This building was thought to honor the textile industry as a mark of the site history, but also to be able to explore new approaches to textile, reintegrating it into the culture and even the economy of Guimarães.
