In this studio, students were required to develop their building strategies based on a series of symbolic, scientific and phenomenological color theory research. Green is introduced as a new landmark in arctic which not only manifests the nature but also is used a a tool of space organization. The first project in Resolute Bay designed by Ralph Eriskine in 1970 illustrated an image where severe nature was rejected by artificial constructions to creat a habitable environment. However in this project, I would like to reconcile
such contracdiction and re-connect my project with the Arctic landscape. The propose of this project is to test the idea that quality of space is transformed when light hits a color and the color is reflected onto a surface. By transforming part of the historical artic-urban landscape at Resolute Bay into a research complex, new interactions among researchers, local residents and tourists are activated. 2

Summer Section
In the summer time when greenhouse is operated by scientists, lights from the greenhouse hit the plants and project a illusion of green into the landscape. The green is visible and the building is undermined.
Winter Section
In the winter time when polar nights happen, the artificial light comes out and hit some colored surface of the courtyard which gives a new impression of space. In the plan drawing each color other than green represents a community service program and this program replaced the greenhouse during the winter, since greenhouse are normally shut down during winter to reduce energy cost.

After 1985 Earthquake struck Mexico City, the central city was left with abundant structurally damaged buildings. In 2001, the policy Bando Dos aimed to encourage development in central city to attract residents’ return, yet resulting in an inev-
itable gentrification which ousted the original residents from central districts into suburb area. To help those lower-income families and maintain the ethnicity of the neighborhood, our research begins to study street vendors, who not only provide food but also give job opportunities in the city. Our interest is to advance the existing street food vendor system and improve the efficiency in this business. Efficiency, the central part of this project, goes beyond the replacement of labor with machines in the name of productivity. It promotes interaction among various walks of life and helps save more resource for those struggling families. The history of kitchen modernization is also a history of wom-12
en’s liberation. Similar idea is referred here: with collective food producing and public service provided by the community, the optimized street food system gives more opportunity for vendors to gian other professional skills, to enjoy family life and to enhance their social status. Five scales of intervention are proposed to the neighborhood. From a small object such as a cover for soup cup, to a communal kitchen where residents can participate in producing basic street food ingredients. Two different manual books explaining this production and distribution system are provided to not only local people but also visitors, shop runners and new residents.

Xinyu Hu, Jingshu Wang and Yi Wu
The interplay of transparent and reflective materials in these images empowers the relationship between the interior and exterior.
