Woods on Fire

The match lit

long before the knee

touched the ground.

Gasoline laced with tears

splashed on the dead trees,

poured by those who have seen the life drain

from their family members.

The flame marched

towards the woods

simply asking for its recognition.

But those who saw the vulnerable

flame

through their white hoodies,

sat and watched the rest of the football game,

criticized the knee.

No surprise

now they see the woods on fire.
