Essentially, plastics are human-made, synthetic polymers made from long chains of carbon and other elements. Through a process called cracking, crude oil and natural gases are converted into hydrocarbon monomers like ethylene, propylene, styrene, vinyl chloride, glycol, and so on.

The term plastic comes from the Greek word “plastikos, which means to mold or to give form.

The Bisphenol is a substance present in many products made with polycarbonate - bottles, baby bottles, containers, toothbrushes, etc. -, may cause health problems. They also invade nature, as they are slow to decompose.

It depends on the type of plastic because, there are plastics that don't have any chemical elements so they aren't unhealthy for us. On the other hand, there are some plastics that are harmful such as PVC and PS.

Plastic will degrade at a varying rate depending on its type. Bottles of drinks and chips bags

from 5 to 10 years to degrade

Milk cartons and bottles

less than 100 years.

Plastic film for food and folders

it does not degrade easily and when it does it gives a number of toxic materials

Bags, bottles Trays, cartons, bottles, packing

Bags decompose in as little as 500 years

This kind of plastic degrade in less than 50 years

Plastics

Common Uses

Products Made From Recycled Plastic

HDPE

Beverage bottles, milk jugs, milk Motor oil bottles, detergent bottles, and soft drink crates, pipe, cable, pipes, and pails film

LDPE

Film bags such as trash bag New trash bags, pallets coatings and plastic bottles.

PET

Soft drink, detergent, and juice Carpets, fiberfill, nonfood bottles or bottles containers

PP

Auto battery cases, screw-on caps Auto parts, batteries, carpets and lids; some yogurt and margarine tubs, plastic film

PS

Housewares, electronics, fast food Insulation board, office equipment, carryout packaging, plastic reusable cafeteria trays utensils

PVC

Sporting goods, luggage, pipes, Drainage pipes, fencing, house auto parts. In packaging for siding shampoo bottles, blister packaging, and films

We shouldn’t use plastic bags because of lots of reasons: to make them, we need a lot of oil. It takes about 100 years to decompose them, causing a lot of pollution. And plastic bags also cause the death of many animals

Plastic objects should be thrown on the specific yellow containers.

Aluminium foil is made of very thin slides of aluminium.

Aluminium takes a lot of energy to mine bauxite ore The recycling of aluminum uses 95% less energy than it takes to make aluminium from the ore

It only degrades in saline and acid environments, and it takes about 500 years or more Inhaled ďƒ˜ Lung problems (coughing) ďƒ˜ Problems of the nervous system.

Ingested in small particles can be related to any effects of Alzheimer's disease

ď ś It only takes 5% of the energy that is used to produce it from raw materials. (ARPAL)

It provides many environmental, economic and community benefits; it saves energy, money, time and precious natural resources; and it generates jobs and helps to pay for community services that make life better for millions of people

In Spain, about 13,400 tons of aluminium per year are recycled, which is about 37%. Not recycled 24,700 tons ever
