Fall Decor Trends

Marissa Warner - Designer at The Home Narrative

Feeling the brisk air on your skin and seeing the trees start to change colour signals the arrival of the fall season. It is a time when many people start changing the seasonal décor in their home. This year’s fall décor choices reflect what is being seen in some of the most popular home trends of 2020.

Copper Finishes

Along with gold, copper is making a big comeback. It is no surprise many fall décor pieces are showcasing this warm metal finish, as the rich hue compliments traditional earth tones and can be easily paired with many existing home colour palettes. A copper bucket or copper plated sign are great ways to add this trendy element to your existing fall décor pieces.

Neutrals

Whether it is in fashion or interior design, the resurgence of traditional neutrals is everywhere- Scandinavian style! The cream, beige and cognac colour palette acts as a natural transition for the season and will establish the foundation for your fall décor. The earthy tones create warmth in both colour and textures. Items from this neutral colour palette can be carried into the winter season, with chunky blankets and pillows, especially during the awkward month of November when fall harvest décor has expired but for many, it is too early for festive Christmas decorations.

If your home is mostly graytones, stick to the light creamand cognac colours in thispalette rather than beige to bestcompliment your space.

Pale Green and Navy Pumpkins

Say goodbye to the go-to orange and yellow pumpkin blends and make room for a new wave of default pumpkin colours- pale green and navy! Last year, we saw the popularity of white pumpkins rapidly grow and sell out everywhere! This year, pale green pumpkins for your exterior porch décor will be a popular choice and navy pumpkins for indoor tablescapes and décor groupings. Both pale green and navy perfectly compliment the neutral palette that is becoming the new home colour foundation!

Try adding floor pieces to your home when decorating for fall, such as baskets or large floor pots with wheat stems, foliage or autumn naturals to fill. By placing décor on various levels in the room, it will naturally draw your eye to the entire space and will create a more balanced presentation.

Whether you decide to incorporate any of this year’s fall trends or stay with traditional décor, the warm and comforting spaces you create will be the perfect retreat when the chilly air arrives! Happy Harvest!
