The GOODS Celebrity Fashion Column By Kimberly Kimmel
Make sure you are ready for the camera, red carpet, or even for a great self-photo by staying up on the latest fashion trends, the new cool colors, and what is in and out. Here are some of our favorite new products, trends and celebs who are enjoying the last few weeks of summer before fall sets in.
Who’s Out and About Looking great in a black and white cropped top Rihanna, exiting her London hotel, can usually do no wrong where fashion is concerned. But apparently her shirt displayed a naughty word (slutz) that the Utz company were none too thrilled about. The snack company quickly ordered a cease and desist. Miley was out in New York looking very feminine in a black dress with white collar, white pointed toe pumps, and a big smile on her face. Maybe she is smiling because she is wearing the newest stylin’ colors and shoes.
What’s In, What’s Out Word is the new fall colors will focus on blacks, whites and blues. Square bags will replace mini backpacks, round-toed pumps are out and sleek flat slippers are in. Check out the new curved heels by Louis Vuitton. We can’t wait to see more of these. Sky-high heels are always in though, so don’t worry about having kept them in the closet. In fact, keep your wedgies in the closet and wear the new wood heel pump with pointed toe. Louis Vuitton bejewelled heel, 866-VUITTON
Upcoming Trends Catching Fire actress, Jennifer Lawrence, sported her new hairstyle known as the ‘choppy bob.’ It is the shortest she’s gone in a long time and she says she loves it. Celebs like Arizona Muse and Kimberly Caldwell are enjoying this easy-to-maintain hairstyle. You can wear it chin length, shoulder length, with side swept bangs or blunt bangs skimming the eyes. Wear it any way you want for a fun, sexy look that is always ready for the lights and red carpet. And if you aren’t ready to cut your hair just yet, long, low ponytails are also the rage.
Cool Places to Shop Ulta is a beauty product lovers paradise. They have a vast selection of great make up to choose from including Lorac, Bare Minerals, Benefit, Nyx and Stila. They carry all the latest hair care products, as well as fragrances such as perfume by Taylor Swift, Prada, Dolce & Gabbana, Coach and Juicy Couture. From shampoo to bronzing lotion, tweezers to blow dryers; they offer every beauty and styling product you could possibly need. If you don’t find exactly what you want at your local store, you can visit their website.
Our Fave Product of the Month Often, it so hard to get a really fine line when applying eyeliner. Therefore we are thrilled with L’Oreal Infallible Super Slim liquid eyeliner. It goes on smooth, with a very fine felt tip applicator, dries quickly and is easy to apply. It’s smudge-proof which is a good thing during this hot, humid weather. Celebrity Beauty Tips By Kimberly Kimmel
How do they do it? How do celebrities seem to have pristine hair, flawless makeup, and perfectly fitted fashions? Everyone knows the celebs have the inside scoop on beauty tips from the experts. After all, they rub shoulders with makeup and hairstylists every day. We dug up a few secrets to share with you on how you can look as fabulous as your favorite celebrity.
At the tender age of 16, Hailee Steinfeld hasn’t learned the ropes of blending makeup just yet, but her makeup artist Stephen Sollitto is giving her a helping hand in creating a natural look. He uses eyeshadows, lip colors and blushes that blend seamlessly with her skin tone. She especially enjoys products by M.A.C. and Benefit.
Nicki Minaj uses Vaseline Cocoa Radiant lotion on her legs to keep them feeling soft. Then she uses M.A.C. Foundation as a topcoat to even out skin tone and to remove any shine.
Michael Ashton, celebrity make up and hairstylist, says the right styling tools are imperative to looking great for the cameras. And, they will enable your hair to look great for a long evening ahead. He is known for creating Adele’s new look.
No one wants zits under the hot lights so Jennifer Love Hewitt has a remedy. She uses a dot of toothpaste on her blemishes at night so that they will be gone by the next morning.
You may think olive oil should only reside on your salad, but why not on your face? Celebs like Evan Rachel Wood and Cate Blanchett use this popular all natural tool for minifacials or as a makeup remover.
For a flawless finish, the make up artists on The Hunger Games chose Makeup Forever’s HD Foundation on Jennifer Lawrence. They wanted a natural look and she looked great. Goes to show you, the celebs get most of their makeup tips from the make up artists on television and movie sets.
Another favorite from your salad bowl is mayonnaise which Zoe Saldana slathers in her hair for extra shine and silkiness. Hairstylists are known to not only use brand name products on their client’s hair, but to pass along many good old fashioned home style remedies as well.
Kristen Stewart’s makeup artist, Beau Nelson, says the best tip is to match the right eye shadow color with your eye color. For green eyes, he suggests using rusty brown eye shadow. For brown eyes use purples and for blue eyes use grays and golden brown eye shadow colors.
So, if you can’t have your own make up and hairstylists on hand, you can at least get the inside scoop from the celebs. www.thegoodsmag.co

Back to School GOODS
By Angela Marie Soberanes, Staff Writer
It’s that time of year again when the summer parties almost come to an end and college courses start filling up your schedule, back to school! New clothes, new classes, new friends and new study buddies are great things about going back to school this semester. A good student must be prepared with pens, paper, books and the must have fashion GOODS in their wardrobe. We’ll help you look your best for your new semester at school.
Shoes, Check! Number one on your back to school list are, of course, shoes and lots of them. Girls always need a cute new pair of flats, sandals and wedges. Steve madden has lace up sandals in both black and tan leather that you can wear with skinnys, shorts or a summer dress. Tudor flats also by Steve Madden come on a floral print design and a cream lacy style that are super cute and girly. The Scarlets’ big wedge design is actually easy to walk in and is the must have summer shoe you can also wear to school. Perhaps on the shorter days so your not walking in heels all day. Sneakers are also must haves as well for both guys and girls and Vans has the surfer inspired shoes for both. The Surf Palm Chauffeur in dark olive is comfortable to be skating around campus or chilling by the library in between classes. For a more stylish look, the Military Ludlow for men has a modern take on the classic grey with a brown leather mesh for a very refined look. For the more sporty guy, a flashy sneak Green Victoire Diamond sneak by Boss comes in bright yellow or red. If you like the more sophisticated look, loafers and drivers by Salvatore Ferragamo will definitely commands attention as your casually hanging out before class with your feet up studying for a quiz, you will surely get the girls attention as the smart and stylish dude.
Jeans, Check! There are a couple styles of denim necessary for this B2S season. Everyone needs a solid black pair of skinnys, they go with everything! A new style of black is a more lacquered finished or a cold pressed denim to pair with an ankle boot. They won’t wash out as quick as the bargain jeans, so spending a little more on something like the J Brand Lacquered skinny are worth the extra pennies. True religion does a great variation for the lacquered cold pressed denim for men as well. For a solid black jean that won’t fade or shrink, guys can try the Burberry Brit Steadman in a stretch Slim fit that goes great with sneakers. Another comfortable denim is the cropped Super Loved boyfriend cut for women by Current Elliot Jeans available at Bloomingdales. For men, a destroyed pre-ripped jean also looks stylish and American Eagle always gets the slim straight jean right. Wear them with a small cuff about an inch to an inch and a half. Leggings are always comfy and you can easily find them in any pattern, but printed denim is more classy. You can find printed jeans anywhere and online, for a taste, see the 7 for All Man Kind Metallic Jacquard skinny or the Paige Denim print in Verdugo. Another fab find this season is a spicy colored cold pressed jean by True Religion you can find at outlets for a bargain. Try a mustard color, peach, aqua marine, or purple color to brighten up a school day.

Tee’s and Tops, blouses and dresses, Check and Check! Girls can incorporate summer dresses into their school wardrobe as long as they are not too short. If they are, colored leggings or shorts can be worn under the dress. Do thrown a bold textile or floral cotton dress or romper when you know it will be a warmer day, or if you are running late and can’t decide with top to wear with those high-rise denim shorts. Along with Maxi dresses, maxi skirts are also a great way to mix and match separate shirts with a variety of colored skirts. High to low dresses are also a super fab way to walk around campus with a cute wedge while the cool summer breezes whirls the end of your dress. Another hip idea is to mix any crop tops you find on sale with dreamy prints and high-waisted pants. Embellished and semi-sequined tanks will also stand out in class and win you major style points on campus. Beat the heat with slightly sheer chiffon blouses that are loose fitting. These long sleeved blouses come in every color and print. A solid royal blue or cream-colored top is easy to accessorize with bracelets and watches. Since you are on the education path, a slim button up shirt by Paul Smith Black will set you apart and make you look very sophisticated. The Vivie silk shirt by Marc Jacobs is also a polished look you can wear with slim jeans or tuck into a flirty A-line skirt. Tweed shorts and leather trimmed shorts also go well with the loose flowing bow tie blouses so be sure to buy some to roam the halls in style. Cardigans are must have B2S items always coming in handy just to cover up inside the air-conditioned classrooms. Have a black, white and a printed or patchwork cardigan in your closet at all times to wear above anything. Even the oversized Maison Martin Margiela leather patch jumper will look cool as ever with a Troopa boot by Steve Madden for a more laid-back look.
Guys should always have a new polo in stock for an all-American look for class. Make sure if it’s white, it’s the whitest, if it’s colored, make sure bright and not faded. It’s a new year and you don’t want to look washed out. Make sure there are a couple sport shirts in different styles and colors on your list. Choose Slim fitted shirts, plaid shirts, striped and colored shirts to add to your wardrobe. A good jean jacket will go a long way. The destroyed denim jacket by J Brand goes great with a colored jean, anything but jean on jean, please. But if you dare, make sure both the denims are different shades of blue. The sleek Diesel Jarmatocer jacket in meadow green will come in handy on a chilly day and will look sharp thrown over your shoulder if it gets too hot. You can have a lot fun with cool graphic tees and tanks this semester showing your creativity or shirts that say something unique. There are great San Diego based clothing companies to keep a look out for unique designs of every. Almost everyone has a friend that is a great artist with a hot press in their garage, so support the locals! Threadless online also has some quirky sketched logos and all are local artist who compete for a chance to get their design on a tee. Obey always has artistic propaganda in their merchandisers and the Obey Gas Mask Biker is a cool design that surprisingly glows in the dark! Other very unique designs by Imaginary Foundation will take you out of this world into a very creative dreamscape realm.
Bags and backpacks, Check! While shopping for backpacks and briefcases for school, choose a fully functional bag that shows your personality and can hold all the essentials. Herschel Supply Co. backpacks come in red, navy and black and in more colors at Madewell.com. Marc Jacobs has a super sleek backpack in all black python that will surely be the hottest thing on campus. It will go with anything and play up all your outfits, even a plain white v-neck and jeans. Marc Jacobs also has a floral print for the ladies. Girls should also try a colorful textile, polkadotted or striped backpack. If you are looking for a stylish briefcase that isn’t strictly business, Ted Baker’s Torun Brief will be perfect for your laptop and books.
On your first day of school, your outfit should make a statement about your personality and your attitude toward school. A well-put together ensemble will show everyone you have your social life and all your priorities for school straight. Be chic and fun but make sure you look like you mean business and you’re not just at school to look cute, but to learn. Be sure to start your school year off right with all the must have G.O.O.D.S. on your list your classmates will be taking fashion notes!

The “Just For Fun” Handbag By Adrianne Miller
When shopping for a handbag, a lot of the time, it’s to find something that can look good while holding a thousand different things at once. Phone, make-up, gum, wallet, and random pieces of paper all have to be able to be toted around while complementing the outfit. Handbags are by far, one of the hardest working accessories in the fashion arsenal. Even though we know that picking the right handbag for our lifestyle is important, sometimes we pick a handbag simply because it’s fabulous. Buying a handbag for no other reason than it being cute is wonderful and should be done more often. These handbags might be able to put in some work, but they are defiantly stylish and right now, stylish is all that matters.
Patricia Nash has an adorable cross body bag that is sure to bring the fun out of any outfit. The Isola – Small is simple and chic; with its 22” inch strap all you need to do is throw it on and go. The washed tan makes it a great day bag. Causal and cute the Isola Cross body is a perfect “just because” buy.
Patricia Nash Isola, $148, Nordstrom
Sometimes we want a big handbag for no reason other than it being big! Diane von Furstenberg has a drawstring tote that proves that bigger is better. The Sydney Tote may be large handbag but it is also beautiful; with its leather and suede exterior and double chain and leather strap that drops 12” off the shoulder, this handbag is all sass. Diane von Furstenberg Sydney Tote, $475, Saks Fifth Avenue
Marc by Marc Jacobs $258, Piperlime
We all know that a bag doesn’t have to be big to make a big statement. The Updated Tangram Ann Clutch is a whole lot of personality in such a small bag. This Marc by Marc Jacobs clutch is a brilliant cosmic purple, making this a fab statement piece. With it being 12 ½’’ wide, 7 ½” high, and 1” deep this clutch can easily be seen across a room.
When handbag shopping, wheatear it’s for function or just for fun we come across that one bag that is big in both size and price tag and we just have to have it; Salvatore Ferragamo’s Fanisa Gancini Hobo Bag is that bag. There is no denying that is Italian made, true orange hobo is a superior handbag and it’s worth every penny.
Salvatore Ferragamo Fanisa Gancini, $1250, Neiman Marcus

End of Summer Accessories By Adrianne Miller
Summer is coming to a close, but that doesn’t mean that it’s too late to don some great summer accessories. Whether it is to the last barbeques of the season or making your final runs to the beach a Volcom’s Rising Stone Sun hat is a bold but functional accessory. Made with paper straw and with its five inch brim, this sun hat is perfect of any causal outdoor event. This sun hat will keep you cool and keep you covered all while looking fabulous. Rising Stone Sun Hat $30, Volcom
In the mist of all your fabulousness you can’t forget about the most important accessory to your outfit; your shoes! Shoes help bring it all together and nothing says “all together” like the Gracyn espadrille from BCBGenration. At 4 inches high with a ¾ inch platform these are an incredible look for the end of summer.
BCBGeneration Gracyn Espadrille, $53, Nordstrom
Belts make flawless accessories. You can never go wrong with adding a thin belt to your outfit to give it that little extra something. Lands’ End’s Tubular Skinny Braid Belt is a superb way to add a stylish touch to an outfit. This single brass prong, genuine leather belt would look great with your favorite sundress or romper. Even jeans or shorts would look great with this added touch.
Braided Belt $25, Lands End
Sivado Studio Personalized Jewelry, $40, Etsy
Sunglasses are an absolute must have. If you are heading out for any reason the right pair can bring your entire outfit together. Vogue Eyewear has the ideal pair of shades to have on for your face for your next daytime outing. These brown and gold, round frame sunglasses are just the right amount of pop mixed with a whole lot of class.
We all know that the little details matter and when putting together a great summer outfit it’s the little details that can make all the difference. The celebrity inspired initial necklace from Sivado Studio is an excellent way of having a clean but very chic appearance. Made from 14k gold and a half an inch in diameter this is surly a statement piece; great for a night out or something to wear every day.

REASONS TO GO NATURAL WITH YOUR HAIR As I heard someone say on television the other day, if you think of your hair as an extension of your skin, you’d treat it a lot kinder. Our hair looks dull and is in bad condition due to all the junk we put into it, the chemicals we put onto it and the way we maintain it. From hot curling irons, to hair dyes, to Brazilian blow outs and chemical perms we are a culture that truly abuses their hair. Hurting your hair, can hurt your wallet, waste your time and harm your health. Here are five good reasons why you need to quit abusing your tresses and let your hair do its own natural thing.
OUR HAIR IS SMARTER THAN WE THINK If your hair is naturally straight, go with it. Thick, straight hair can look so healthy and lustrous that with a blunt cut you can really show it off. If your hair has a natural curl why fight it? Millions of women spend a lot of money to have their hair permed. If yours is naturally curly, be thankful. A soft-layered cut will help tame your curls.
SKIN TONE We are all born with hair that naturally matches our skin tone. Have you ever seen those women who have a pinkish, rather than peachy skin tone and dye their hair an orange or red and it just doesn’t look right? Brassy hair is not attractive.
GOING NATURAL SAVES TIME Think of all the time you’ll save in the morning if you just wash, condition and go. If you have a good cut that is right for your face type, you can save bundles of time on hair maintenance.
GOING NATURAL SAVES MONEY Let’s get real. Hair color at the salon can cost north of $50.00. A perm costs $45-60 and a Keratin straightening costs $140.00! Plus, all of these chemicals on your hair are just plain bad for your body.
GOING NATURAL MAKES YOUR HAIR AND BODY HEALTHY
The first thing you’ll read when looking up how to avoid thyroid function problems is to not dye your hair. Doctors will tell you to avoid coloring your hair if you are pregnant or nursing. Why is this? Because there are so many caustic chemicals in hair dye that it is toxic for your system. Avoid all chemicals including the sulfates and parabens in hair and skincare products. Shampoo with sulfates will strip natural color out of your hair leaving it looking dull and lifeless. Try the more natural shampoos from the health food store. Plus, healthy hair is achieved from the inside out. What we put into our bodies including all natural and whole foods really nourishes our hair as well as our bodies. Finally, who wants to read this: Brazilian Blowout Warns Consumers About Cancer Risks. Cancer? No thanks.

STRUT An Opening Day Fashion Show Soiree
By Adrianne Miller
A night of beauty; Classychicksclothingonline.com made their July 17th fashion even one to remember. This poolside soiree was held at the breathtaking Marriott Del Mar, STRUT added plenty of glam to the already fabulous Opening Day Races. With designs by six of CCCO’s designers, this event was spectacular from beginning to end. The night was filled with music from An Angels Creation, photo opp. on the red carpet with photography by Samantha Grace, hors d’oeuvers from the fantastic Arterra Restaurant, a dance performance, even a fire staff spinning by The Body Poets. An exciting and entertaining way to begin the evening; it all led up to the showing of the phenomenal Sacia O Couture Headwear. Keeping with the tradition of ornate headwear and the Del Mar horse races, Sacia O Couture showed a collection of hats that commanded the attention of everyone present. A combination of classy and edgy, from wide rimed hat to elegant fascinators, Sacia O Couture headwear line started the evening off right. The show itself was eye-catching and fun. Everything from the music to the models where well orchestrated; not a detail single was out of place. Sacia O wasn’t the only one making a splash at STRUT. Pinkini Swimwear showcased their 2013 swimwear line. Accompanied with fabulous hats and shoes, the swimsuits were nothing short of stunning. This Orange County based swimsuit line not only showed off their mindblowing one of kind pieces, the show itself was astounding. There wasn’t a single dull moment once the Pinkini Swimwear models hit the runway. An array of swimsuit styles, from exotic fabric choices to silhouettes of all kinds, graced the runway leaving everyone wanting more.

The event as a whole had fashion that left everyone in attendance wanting more. Biblia, Zawal, Noia by Evelyne, and Michelle Soto Designs were also there and everything that came down the runway was divine. Not a single trend went untouched and each CCCO designer brought their A-game; reminding the audience why they are exclusive to ClassyChickClothesOnline.com. Evening wear, separates, and everything in between satisfied the need for both beauty and function. The colors and fabric choices ranged from elegant to daring and each piece made its own alluring statement. As a whole the fashions shows and each designer went above and beyond and it was a true testament to the talents of everyone involved. Even with all of the action happening on the runway, that wasn’t the only thing keeping the energy sounding that event, high. There where booths set up so that guest could do a little shopping for accessories like hats, jewelry, handbags, even bow-ties by Lord Wallington. The Pop-up Beauty Boutique was another excellent draw that had the guests enjoying themselves even more. In the end, the night overall was a success. The event was a blast and that, on top of all of the high energy, a great group of people, lots of entertainment, and all of the top-notch fashion STRUT: An Opening Day Fashion Show Soiree was all goods.

Magazine; he was a friend, a mentor, and an irreplaceable staple in San Diego’s photography scene that will never be forgotten. What is the proper way to say goodbye to someone that was not only a vital member of your staff but regarded as a family member and friend to so many? In the San Diego fashion and photography community, the name Ken Williams was synonymous with top quality photography, and a professional yet warm demeanor with which he approached his work. His passing was so unexpected that it sent shockwaves throughout the fashion community; none of us were given the opportunity to properly say goodbye, with a heavy heart and immeasurable disbelief, the magazine will put its best foot forward towards becoming the magazine that Ken had envisioned and make sure that his legacy lives on through the G.O.O.D.S. magazine.
My first meeting with Ken set up what would become a great and inspirational working relationship. Omarr, Ken, and myself spent an hour or so bouncing ideas off of each other and going over what would be the groundwork for the publication. Ken’s ideas mirrored my own and his personality immediately endeared me to his warm nature; I knew from that day forward that I was working with someone that had the creativity and vision that was needed to separate our magazine from the many trying to gain a footing in a very tough industry. With Ken gone, a large creative void has been left which will take many of us in the magazine to fill.

What is important to remember is that all was not lost with Ken’s passing; snapshots and imprints of his photographical genius remain, as does his memory in all of the individuals that he came in contact with, to know Ken was truly to love him. His work is only a small consolation to losing Ken, however we will attempt to carry out the vision that he worked so diligently towards pursuing while emulating the dedication and hard work that he put towards the magazine over the past two years. Rather than mourn Ken Williams, The G.O.O.D.S. Magazine plans on celebrating his legacy and fulfilling the work left undone; an even bigger tragedy than the loss of Ken would be not honoring him by finishing what he helped start. Ken saw The
G.O.O.D.S. Magazine becoming ‘The’ publication in San Diego, and we intend to make it so. Thank you Ken and Connie Williams for devoting so much of your time and hard work to the magazine over the past two years. Connie, we at the magazine send you our deepest condolences and hope this tribute to Ken helps you find even an inkling of warmth in what has been very dark times for us all at the magazine. Ken meant so much to us all and is sorely missed; his life and work will serve as constant inspiration to the magazine going forward as we attempt to finish his work and create something that Ken could appreciate from wherever he is watching us.

LISTEN TO THIS Andromeda :: Dream Girl Artist: Andromeda Album: Dream Girl Label: Shew | Creative Release Date: June 28, 2013 Genre: Dance/Electronica
Jazz chartreuse Andromeda shifts gears and delves into a new sound on her debut album Dream Girl, boosting shimmering Euro-Dance production and classic 90s Dance-Pop melodies. The album is great example of what can happen when you branch out and try something new. Unlike most EDM music albums of recent memory, Andromeda keeps the gimmicks far away and relies on her voice to drive the songs. When you have a voice like this, there’s no need for distractions and unneeded theatrics. The title track is an illustrious dance number of unrequited love with an infectious hook and lush production. A driving bassline with dreamy synths; but the lyrics tell a story of anguish and sadness. Sadly, she sings “I’m your dream girl / you just don’t know it / I’m your dream girl / you dont’t see it.” Its heartbreaking and somewhat tragic which seems to be the overall theme of the album.
By: Michael T. Brewer
On the vocally stunning gem “I Will Forget You,” she cries out that one day she will be able to let go of her former lover. Its Sad Disco a la Loreen or Robyn. Even in the sadness, there’s light and happiness on the album. Dream Girl is filled with amazing vocal arrangements, beautiful melodies and emotional lyrics. This album is about a woman looking for the kind of love that Carrie Bradshaw yearns for. The love that girls dream of.
LISTEN TO THIS Mutya Keisha Siobhan Artist: Mutya Keisha Siobhan Single: Flatline Label: Polydor Records Release Date: September 1, 2013 Genre: Pop
By: Michael T. Brewer The founding members of the British girl band Sugababes have reunited, reformed and rebranded as Mutya Keisha Sionhan. (Legally they couldn’t use the moniker Sugababes.) With much buzz swirling around the trio, many anxiously awaited to hear the debut single. And in a triumphant return the ladies have crafted easily the best single of 2013 with “Flatline” produced by Dev Hynes of Blood Orange. Previously, he’s produced for the likes of Sky Ferreira (Everything Is Embarrassing) and
Solange’s recent EP True. On “Flatline” the girls show off their killer vocals and amazing harmonies. So many memorable lyrics but specifically the soaring chorus “Stay Gone / Darling I won’t hang on / I can feel the flatline / It ought to be a wave” is a true work of art. The storming kick drum, 80s snare and haunting melody create a truly gripping musical journey. The ladies’ voices are in top form. Needless to say, the song was more than worth the wait. Welcome back ladies, you’ve been missed.

UGLY BOOGIE By Alejandrina Aragon
I recently had the opportunity to catch up with the talented San Diego native band, Ugly Boogie during their first official full album length studio recording session. They had preformed recently at an event I covered for Appreciation Of Women In Business which was my first time hearing the band in person. It was very refreshing to hear such a uniquely appealing sound. We met about mid session over at the SDRL production studio where I got to hear how this amazing band came about. Ugly Boogie was established two years ago and was built on a foundation of originality in sound. Their style would most likely be considered Folk Rock however in the opinion of the band members, they consider themselves a combination of Folk and Surf Rock, Blues, Punk, Gypsy and Romanian inspired in sound. As a whole, they aspire to do something very much out of the norm within the industry, to create a sound not limited by or to one genre in particular. Which is why Ugly Boogie is known to use a large variety of instruments to create their unique sound. The Band consists of five key members including the lovely Monica Daniels who plays clarinet and tambourine as well as sings back up vocals with the band. She has been with Ugly Boogie for two years and admits she got into music kind of haphazardly. She was drawn to the band members as great musicians and joined the band to continue in the pursuit of her passion for music. Monica admits she has not had any official vocal training however having heard her myself, I would question the truth in that. She has a beautiful sound that is unique and diverse which greatly complements the foundation of the bands approach in sound and style.

John Robertson is another member with an amazing gift for the drums, which has been his part as a member of Ugly Boogie since he joined the band 1-½ years ago. He shared that he was always encouraged from a young age to play an instrument but he also has an advantage having been taught to play guitar by ear. Upon meeting Ugly Boogie he started playing drums which he quickly adapted to and he has been practicing and perfecting his musical abilities with the group since. Daniel Schraer is one of the two lead vocalists and songwriter’s to the band. He plays the accordion, guitar and piano in Ugly Boogie. Daniel also admits to having official training as classical musician as a child having played classical piano. It wasn’t until later that he got into rock music and since has continued to branch out as an artist from there. Music comes naturally to this talented band member with a great deal of inspiration being drawn from creative self-expression. The talented and creative Brady Alvarez is also a lead vocalist for Ugly Boogie who also plays the banjo and guitar in addition to singing. When I asked him why he has chosen to pursue music as a passion, he shared that music is the only real important thing he has done in his life, which showed the extreme passion in what he is pursuing. The final member of Ugly Boogie is Kyle Dramer who has played base with the band for the past two years. He played guitar prior to having joined Ugly Boogie, which
he picked up in high school and has been playing piano since five years of age. When it comes down to history within the band, Daniel and Brady have been writing music together since high school. As a whole they are excited to be recording with a sound quality that they have been lacking as the majority of their music has been mostly home made. Ugly Boogie mentioned they are recording all of their hit songs in high quality which is why the album has yet to be given an exact release date. Ugly Boogie are expecting an album release around February 2014, but it is not yet set in stone. It is important to them as a group to take their time in order to exemplify their sound to its maximum potential. They are looking to accomplish a unique sounding album that they can be proud of, in hopes that their listeners will have fun listening to their music. The group mentioned that all of the songs will be different and they hope that you all listen to it, tap your feet and think wow I have never heard anything like this before and love it. Ugly Boogie has several upcoming performances scheduled locally and preformed most recently at Casbah San Diego and the Soda Bar. You wont want to miss out on the unique sound that the have embodied. I enjoyed hearing it and when the album releases I am sure you will as well.
Catch up with Ugly Boogie on Facebook and Soundcloud for their upcoming performances and the official album release date. facebook.com/uglyboogie ďż˝ soundcloud.com/ugly-boogie
