WHEELS & DEALS
In 2018, Denny was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a founding member of The Moody Blues who were once touring mates with The Beatles.
As the only member of Wings, besides Paul & Linda McCartney, to be with the group for its entire run, Denny enjoyed tremendous success throughout the ‘70’s. The group became one of the biggest bands of the decade.
They had several #1 albums and more hit singles with the 1976 release of Wings at the Speed of Sound. The topgrossing Wings Over America tour followed which featured Denny performing select solo and Wings numbers including “Go Now” and “Time To Hide.”
Denny remains in demand, touring both his solo and full band shows, and with new music that he currently has in the works. His new “Songs & Stories” show is a unique opportunity to experience the music of one of Rock’s most enduring voices in a way you’ve never heard him before.

Phil Firetog Trio Single
Long Island-based alternative acoustic “mom rock” group Phil Firetog Trio & Co. released their single “How A Heart Breaks,” an emotional uptempo pop-rock track about dealing with grief and memorializing loved ones on February 10th. The track describes heartache whilst retaining the intensity of rock progressions, paired with emotionally charged lyrics.
Phil Firetog Trio & Co. is composed of a rotating cast of characters, featuring Phil Firetog (lead vocalist/guitarist), Johnny “Pots” Potocnik (drummer), Liam Gordon (bassist), Tye Granger (saxophone) and Gabriel Nekrutman (flute/clarinet/alto sax). They recently released their fan-favorite single, “Fall,” the first track to include the “Company” performing alongside the trio and their latest holiday-themed single “Long Island Christmas Eve.” They are at Westhampton Beach Brewing Company March 3rd.
Tripping Jupiter Lipstick Of The Brave
The title track of Tripping Jupiter’s acclaimed 2022 album ‘Lipstick of the Brave’ (produced by Barb Morrison they/them - Blondie, LP, Rufus Wainwright, Franz Ferdinand) has had a short film/ video created for it that was directed by two-time Academy Award nominated animator, graphic designer, cartoonist, and filmmaker Bill Plympton Your Face (1987), Guard Dog (2004).
This song and video delivers a message that celebrates the freedom of gender expression and is a stark juxtaposition to today’s current political climate as we witness drag entertainers be persecuted by right-wing politicians, anti LGBTQ+ groups, religious extremists, and rightwing media who feed into divisive and unnecessary toxic culture wars.
‘Lipstick of the Brave’ has been an official selection at Santa Fe International Film Festival, Outfest Los Angeles, Montreal Independent Film Festival, Big Apple Film Festival, Cherry Grove Film Festival, Woodstock Film Festival, Outshine Film Festival: Miami, Coney Island Film Festival, LA LGBTQ+ Film Festival.
Five tracks from the album also feature bass performed by David Bowie collaborator and legendary session Musician Gail Ann Dorsey.
As March approaches, it’s time to start gearing up for South by Southwest Festival and Conference taking place in Austin, Texas. Spanning from March 10-19, SXSW brings in 500,000 visitors to the city for 10 days of conference and festival events covering music, comedy, film, gaming, tech, business, and so much more. SXSW takes over numerous locations throughout the city as well as the convention center for panels and keynotes educating across all these topics, new movie releases, live music acts of all levels, and a simply all around energizing and exciting time for all attendees. There’s no shortage of free drinks, food, and swag to enjoy yourself every day of SXSW.
A typical day at SXSW might start off with you attending a keynote session on how to go from a bedroom musician to a nationally touring one and tips for building out a tour schedule. Then you might stop by a special event hosted by a company where you can find delicious meals and drinks on the house. You might hop to a music showcase next and see a small band from Utah that you fall in love with. After that, it’s time to find another spot to get some more food and check out a movie premiere to finish the night off. The possibilities are endless and you’re only limited by what your mind can conceive.
On the film end of things, Opening Night will be brought in by a new television series “Swarm”, directed by Donald Glover and Adamma Ebo. The series is a “sister series” to the show “Atlanta” and follows around lead character Dre who is obsessed with a pop star (with quite a few similarities to Beyonce) and focuses on how her fandom takes her to unexpected places, often dark and disturbing. The series, available March 10 on Amazon Prime, focuses on the antihero archetype and the main character can be compared to Tony Soprano or Don Draper. It’s a classic and fresh take on an interesting style and with Donald Glover behind the reigns, is sure to be a hit.
As the days pass, more and more musical acts are announced as part of the music festival at SXSW ranging from small acts just breaking onto the scene to iconic, world famous talent. British psychedelic rock group The Zombies will be stopping by this year to bring their unique and timeless style to the stage. The Zombies came to America in the 1960s to ride the momentum of their hit single “She’s Not There” and continued to release numerous hits over the subsequent decades.
If that’s not quite your style, perhaps some punk rock straight from Kyoto, Japan might be more your vibe. Otoboke Beaver has just come off a sold out US Tour and are not to be messed with. Their style is quirky, energetic, and very different from what many listeners might be used to. Their sound is akin to if The Ramones were born and raised in Japan with a fast-paced and aggressive sound with frequent changes in rhythm and tempo. The group is inspired by a particular style of traditional Japanese comedy called Manzai and the general writing and delivery of their music is influenced by this. Another example of SXSW talent that you may have never listened to on your own, but can be seen and heard live during the event.
If you’re looking for something with some American roots, Philly rapper Armani White will be stopping by this year. Armani released his debut album, “Keep in Touch” in 2019 and his recent track “Billie Eilish” peaked at number 8 on the Billboard Hot 100. With heavy hitting production and a trap based lyrical style, Armani can no doubt get a crowd on their feet and ready for a night of fun. Still early in his career, there is plenty of time for this artist to achieve greatness. And what better place to gain even more recognition than at SXSW.
By Richard Joseph Branciforte
I hope I’ve given you the itch and you’re excited to stop by Austin, Texas this March and join me in what will be another great year of entertainment. Thanks for stopping in and feel free to reach out to me at richiegtechno@gmail.com! Keep raging my friends!

ALLISON ADAMS TUCKER:THREE DECADES
Recorded in New York and produced by Matt Pierson in 2019, RETRO Trilogy features the San Diego-based Adams Tucker assembling an A-team support band that includes Kevin Hays (piano, Rhodes and melodica) Tony Scherr (bass and guitars), Kenny Wollesen (drums and vibes), Yotam Silberstein (guitar), Peter Sprague (guitar) and Bashiri Johnson (percussion). Hip, jazz-kissed arrangements were delivered by Hays, Silberstein, Sprague, Adams Tucker, Josh Nelson and Danny Green. Unlike her previous album, 2016’s travelogue WANDERlust on Origin Records, Adams Tucker decided to forgo horns in hopes of a more acoustic setting dominated by keyboards and guitars.
Each EP zeroes in on the three decades of her evolved freedom of musical expression: the ‘70s, ‘80s and ‘90s—from Cat Stevens to Paul Simon, from Tears for Fears to Prince, from Beck to Elizabeth Fraser with Massive Attack, from her folk-pop-punk and new wave past to her dive into jazz in 2005. The full album is a three-part “old school meets the digital age” jazz collection of re-imagined covers of songs that informed Adams Tucker as she blossomed into a popular singer and bandleader.
TRUMPETER TONY KADLECK
Trumpeter/composer/arranger/bandleader/educator TONY KADLECK is one of the most sought-after trumpet players on the New York City scene, and has been for some time. He moved to NYC in 1986, following his studies at the New England Conservatory–and a stint in the trumpet section of The Buddy Rich Big Band. Eventually, Kadleck was in such high demand locally, for studio and stage work, that touring took a back seat. He played on countless jingles, scores for TV and film, and worked with the cream of the crop, including Luther Vandross, Michael Jackson, Elton John, Celine Dion, Stevie Wonder, Ella Fitzgerald, Issac Hayes, and most recently Steely Dan,Tony Bennett/Lady Gaga, Santana, Weezer, Steve Tyrell, and many others.
To say that Kadleck is a rare bird is a major understatement. Possessing the expertise, musical acumen, phrasing, range, chops, and the desire to handle gigs as diverse as the New York Pops and The Who (for example) with straight-ahead professionalism and excellence is not common. His prowess now bears fruit on his own project, Sides (released on Marshall Gilkes’ Alternate Side Records on February 10th), which follows up his previous big band album, Around The Horn, and his debut as a leader, Extended Outlook.
Transmissions From Total Refreshment Centre

The album is available now on vinyl, CD, or download and the lead single is “Visions” by Soccer96 featuring MC Kieron Boothe. All the best music has a community underneath it, and the extended family around TRC—a music venue and recording studio founded by Lex Blondel that serves as a vital hub in London’s jazz scene—connects continents and generations, creating the rich relationships that are in full effect on Transmissions From Total Refreshment Centre. The collection draws from new school jazz, hip hop, dub, soul, funk, and drill.Turn it up loud to hear the widescreen young cousins of Guru’s landmark Jazzmatazz in full effect: top players from London, Chicago, and Melbourne seeking out new collaborations, new ways of working, or just new tunes, always coming back to that central truth – that we all need each other.

Sparks Announce Headline Tour
Sparks announced a major world tour that will see the band playing some of the biggest venues in their more than 50-year history. North American dates get underway Tuesday, June 27 at New York City’s Beacon Theatre and then continue through a massive hometown finale in Los Angeles on Sunday, July 16. For complete details and ticket information, please see allsparks.com/#tour.
Sparks Tour 2023 – which includes a pair of sold-out headline shows at London’s Royal Albert Hall on May 29 and 30 – celebrates the imminent arrival of Sparks’ 26th studio album, The Girl Is Crying In Her Latte, due Friday, May 26 via Island Records – their first release on the venerable label in close to five decades. Described by brothers Ron and Russell Mael as a record that is “as bold and uncompromising as anything we did back then, or for that matter, anytime throughout our career,” the new album follows such classic Sparks releases on Island as 1974’s landmark Kimono My House, highlighted of course by the indelible hit single, “This Town Ain’t Big Enough For Both Of Us.”
Rick Wakeman Returns
Keyboard wizard Rick Wakeman announced that he will be returning to the USA in March and April 2023, with his latest tour, AN EVENING WITH RICK WAKEMAN: HIS MUSIC AND STORIES, starting Wednesday, March 15 in Phoenixville, PA.
Wakeman’s set will consist of music taken from across the wide breadth of his 50-year-plus career, stripped back to its roots in arrangements for grand piano. It will include work from his early days as a session player arranging and performing keyboards on hits like David Bowie’s Life On Mars, through his groundbreaking stint with progressive rock band YES and his own multi-platinum solo albums, plus quirky covers of other acts like The Beatles.
And this glorious display of keyboard virtuosity will be punctuated by hilarious anecdotes and reminiscences of his life. Renowned as much for his irreverent sense of humor as his musical talent, as he himself says, all of Wakeman’s stories contain an element of truth; it’s up to the audience to decide how much!
In a departure from his previous solo tours, as well as playing a grand piano, Wakeman will also be bringing along a few electronic keyboards to add variety and texture to his set.
He’ll be appearing April 5th at The Paramount and April 6th at City Winery, NYC.
Jethro Tull 23rd Studio Album
Jethro Tull announced their 23rd studio album, ‘RökFlöte’, which is set for release on April 21st via InsideOutMusic. Following 2022’s ‘The Zealot Gene’, the band’s first album in two decades, Ian Anderson and the band are returning with a 12-track record based on the characters and roles of some of the principle gods of the old Norse paganism, and at the same time exploring the ‘RökFlöte’ - rock flute -which Jethro Tull has made iconic.
You can watch the animated video for ‘Ginnungagap’ (created by Costin Chioreanu) at: https://youtu.be/KoBAD-TRxYA
The track takes inspiration from the god Ymir, the proto-being, a primeval being, who was born from venom that dripped from the icy rivers called the Élivágar and lived in the grassless void of Ginnungagap.
RökFlöte’ will be available on several different formats, including two limited deluxe formats that include bonus demo material, extensive liner notes & a blu-ray featuring Dolby Atmos.

PUBLIC IMAGE LTD. VIDEO “HAWAII”
Public Image Ltd. (PiL) have released the video for the new song “Hawaii,” which features hand-written lyrics by John Lydon. “Hawaii” which Rolling Stone called “an understated and emotional ballad” marks the most personal and heartfelt piece of songwriting yet from John who also created the track’s accompanying artwork.
Public Image Ltd.’s first new music in eight years, “Hawaii” is a love letter to John’s wife of nearly 5 decades, Nora, who is living with Alzheimer’s. A pensive, personal yet universal love song that will resonate with many, the song sees John reflecting on their lifetime well spent, and in particular, one of their happiest moments together in Hawaii. The powerfully emotional ballad is as close as John will ever come to bearing his soul. “It is dedicated to everyone going through tough times on the journey of life, with the person they care for the most,” says John Lydon. “It’s also a message of hope that ultimately love conquers all.”
“Hawaii” will also be released on limited edition 7” vinyl this year, and Public Image Ltd. will release a new full-length album later this year.
BLUR’S DAVE ROWNTREE DEBUT ALBUM
Dave Rowntree released his debut album, Radio Songs, streaming now and released through Cooking Vinyl.
Featuring the 6Music playlisted single, “Tape Measure,” and a handful of introductory tracks that have introduced Rowntree’s own music some thirty-two years after Blur’s debut record Leisure was released back in 1991.
Best known as the drummer in Blur, Dave Rowntree is also something of a polymath: film and TV composer, podcaster, light aircraft pilot (and instructor), lawyer, former Labour councillor. “I’ve always been a bit of a nomad,” he laughs. It’s a record set to surprise many people, being an electronic-based album with orchestral fringes, filled with great, tuneful songs delivered by Rowntree’s assured and expressive vocal performances. While down the years he’s provided backing vocals on many of Blur’s albums and onstage during their live sets, this is the first time the drummer has stepped up to the microphone as a singer in his own right. He says he didn’t particularly find the prospect daunting.
JULIO IGLESIAS JR & JEWEL DUET
International recording artist Julio Iglesias Jr., has released “Careless Whisper,” a duet with four-time Grammy-nominated, multiplatinum singer-songwriter Jewel. The new rendition features Julio’s warm, soulful vocals and Jewel’s inimitably sweet voice paired with a delicate samba beat that breathes new life into the beloved George Michael classic. His new album Under The Covers finds Julio reinterpreting an eclectic mix of pop songs in the classic sound of big band and swing—a supreme fit for his crooner voice and innate elegance as a song interpreter. The album’s selection of songs feels like a soundtrack to our lives, evoking good memories and brightening the heart. The album includes lush renditions of Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Going On,” Tears for Fears’ “Everybody Wants to Rule the World,” Billy Joel’s “Just The Way You Are,” Belinda Carlisle’s “Heaven Is A Place On Earth,” Ed Sheeran’s “Shape Of You,” Chris Isaak’s “Wicked Game,” and “I’m Too Sexy” with Right Said Fred.
