MISSISSIPPI FRACTAL TOWER HENNEPIN AVENUE | MINNEAPOLIS, MN
This project involved the creation of a mixed-use 34 story tower along the Mississippi River. The project intent was to better connect downtown with the river through circulation, program, and urban design. The project also connects with the nearby historic post office to utilize future retail within to help activate the site at all times. The tower itself acts to point towards the river through its form, and the circulation also connects people with the river. This is done with a cablestayed pedestrian bridge and ramp to overcome the 20’ drop from the street to river level.

transporoCITY
Northern Spark | MINNEAPOLIS, MN The name transporoCITY is derived from translucent - transparent - and porus all qualities of light and water. Our art installation proposal uses Sun Film a material that acts similar to water in that it is transparent yet reflective and ripples as it moves in the wind. Working with the Northern Spark Art Festival we received a site located at the edge of the Mississippi River and the city. This edge condition allowed us to filter people through the site towards the river allowing them to focus on the river, something we often take for granted in the busy city.

The panels also decreased in height as you moved towards the river. This allowed the city to be reflected in front of you as you began the journey and gradually they move below eyesight so that your attention is focused on the actual river and reflections below.

MILLENNIAL BUS SHELTER METRO TRANSIT | MINNEAPOLIS, MN
The intent of this studio was to design a bus shelter suitable for the active millennial transit rider, as well as increase general ridership. The bus stop is located in front of the county jail and services downtown daily commuters.
POWER
The area around the site has many negative connotations and feelings about it, the project goal was to reverse these contextual site feelings through interactive user engagement and technology. The design features interactive elements to reduce the preceived waiting time for customers, a major source of customer complaints. In addition it provides multiple amenities such as bike sharring and kiosks in order to provide activity and “eyes on the street all day versus simply during rush hour times. Finally, the shelter uses color changing LED lighting to inform riders when the next bus will arrive.

Northern Spark | MINNEAPOLIS, MN
Collaborators - ARCH 5250 Northern Spark Design Build Students
Beginning with the elemental geometry of the cube, CityScope created a field of whimsical moving boxes that allowed for public participation at the all night 2015 Northern Spark Art Festival. The project was built and designed by thirteen graduate architecture students in an eight-week studio course. The studio received critique and counsel from Minn_Lab Collaborative, and guest community artists. The project goal was to create new ways of seeing the city. The structures recall the mechanical histories of Minneapolis. Using a kinetic counterbalanced system, the cubes can be lifted and entered, creating intimacy amidst the spectacle.

MENDING MISSION CREEK FOND DU LAC| DULUTH, MN
Collaborators - Michael Jones, MLA ‘16 and Chris Lybeck , MLA ‘16
In response to the flooding of Mission Creek in 2012, the project seeks to add resiliency by naturalizing the creek flow. The proposal includes developing prime trout habitat in this DNR designated trout creek and builds on the already successful bow hunting area surrounding the creek. The studio was organized using interdisciplinary teamwork that included two Masters of Landscape Architecture students working in close collaboration with a single Masters of Architecture student as a group. The plan includes a year round lodge to enhance the outdoor recreation and fit within the creek valley context and hillside. The lodge features hotel accommodations, on site restaurant for game processing, indoor archery, spa and event space to maximize revenue potentials. This lodge will allow for the funding of the creek improvements and enhance community jobs, and outdoor tourism within the area.
