THE RECORDS The Badgers enter with a 5-4-2 record on the season, and identical 1-0-1 mark after the first weekend of Big Ten play. Wisconsin tied Purdue in the league opener, before upsetting #19 Indiana. South Dakota begins the week with a 2-6-1 record, looking for their first win since Sept. 6. On Oct. 2, the Coyotes face off with rival North Dakota.
THE SERIES This week the Golden Gophers kick off with their oldest and most frequent opponent as well as with a brand new one. The 19 meetings since 1993 with Wisconsin are the most Minnesota has with an opponent. The Golden Gophers trail the all-time series 9-10-0, but have made up ground lately, winning four of five. Minnesota is 5-5-0 at Wisconsin. Sunday will be the first match-up between the Golden Gophers and Coyotes, as South Dakota transitions to Division I.
LAST MATCH-UP Last season when Minnesota hosted Wisconsin, the Gopher defense held the Badgers without a shot on goal in the second half, while the offense came through with the game winning goal midway through the period in the 21 win. Always intense when the two teams meet up, last year’s contest was plagued with 23 combined fouls and eight combined yellow cards. WATCH LIVE When the Gophers are in Madison on Oct. 1, fans can follow along from home with live stats courtesy of UWBadgers.com. And when Minnesota returns home on Oct. 4, live stats will be offered through GopherSports.com as always.

In Big Ten play, Minnesota hits the road to Madison on Thursday, Oct. 1, for a 7:00 p.m. tilt with Wisconsin, but then gets to return home and take a break from league play when they host South Dakota on Sunday, Oct. 4 at 1:00 p.m.
Ten play with a 1-0 win over Iowa at home on Sept. 24 in the opener, and then went on the road to Illinois, earning a 2-2 tie.
NEXT UP The Golden Gophers hectic pace slows a bit next week with only one game on the schedule. The lone match-up of the week is a 1:00 p.m. contest at Purdue on Sunday, Oct. 11.

MINNESOTASOCCER ONE IS THE LONELIEST NUMBER The Golden Gophers had maybe their best defensive performance of the season on 9/20 vs. Montana. After allowing just one shot in the first half, the Minnesota defense held Montana without a shot in the second. The one shot allowed is one of the best marks in team history, bettered only by the five times Minnesota has held their opponent to no shots.
TOUGH TO BEAT AT THE ROBBIE The Golden Gophers extended their unbeaten streak at the Robbie to 18 matches with their victory over Iowa. The Golden Gophers are now 170-1 in their last 18 home contests. They last lost at the Robbie on 11/8/07, falling 3-4 on penalty kicks, after tying Illinois 2-2 in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament.
IN THE TOURNAMENT Illinois was the only Big Ten Team to advance as far as Minnesota in last season’s NCAA tournament, reaching the Sweet Sixteen. Last weekend they become Golden Gophers’ sixth opponent who was a tournament team in 2008. After six games this season against last year’s NCAA qualifiers, Minnesota is 2-2-2. The only team left on the docket from the 2008 NCAA tournament is Penn State on Oct. 16.
RANKED OPPONENTS The Golden Gophers have faced one ranked opponent this season, falling to then #16 Georgia on Aug. 28. The loss dropped their record to 2-12-0 against ranked teams under Mikki Denney Wright. Of teams currently ranked, three remain on Minnesota’s schedule in #12 Purdue, #15 Ohio State, and #20 Michigan State. PERFECT 10 Cat Parkhill’s 10 saves against Wisconsin-Milwaukee on 9/11 are a career high for the freshman keeper. After the match, the mark stood as the best in the Big Ten, but the following weekend was bettered by Michele Dalton of Wisconsin with 12 on 9/20.
BIG TEN FIRST With two goals on 9/6 to go along with her two assists on 8/21, Molly Rouse became the first player in the Big Ten this season to have a multi-goal and multi-assist match. She has since been joined in the two & two club.
