THE RECORDS Purdue enters the week with a 7-2-3 overall record and a 2-0-2 mark in the Big Ten, putting them in first place. Minnesota on the season is 9-2-2 overall and 2-0-1 in the Big Ten, leaving the Gophers in second place, just a point behind the Boilermakers.

THE SERIES The Gophers trail the Boilermakers 5-7-0 alltime, with the first meeting coming in 1998. The series has been written by streaks as Minnesota won the first three meetings, before Purdue ripped off all seven of their wins. Last season, the Gophers snapped the seven game losing streak, and with another win in the Big Ten Tournament have now won two straight in the series.

LONE RANGER The Golden Gophers play just once this week, returning to Big Ten action. On Sunday, Oct. 11, Minnesota travels to face ninth ranked Purdue in a 1:00 p.m. match-up.

The Gophers return home next weekend for just their second and third Big Ten games this season at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium. In a big weekend, Minnesota hosts Penn State on Rock the Robbie Night, Oct. 16 in a rematch of the 2008 Big Ten Co-champions, before hosting #25 Ohio State on Oct. 18.

NINE IS FINE The 9-0 win over South Dakota on 9/4, is tied as the fourth highest scoring game in Gopher history, matching a 9-0 victory over St. Cloud State in 1993. The highest scoring game is a 12-0 win over St. Thomas in the inaugural season in 1993.

ALRIGHT, ALRIGHT YOU BROKEN RECORD Several single-game records were matched in the Gophers 9-0 win over South Dakota. With four goals, Katie Bethke tied the mark set by Erin Hussey on 8/31/96, and Bethke’s 10 points also tied the mark set by Hussey in the same game. With three assists Katie Shelander tied the school record, set six times previously. AND HERE’S THE APPROACH Katie Bethke’s 12 points over the weekend vaulted her into top-10 career charts for points, goals and assists. ONE IS THE LONELIEST NUMBER For the second time on the season, the Gophers allowed just one shot to their opponent, when they kept South Dakota without an attempt until late in the second half on 10/4. The South Dakota game matches the Montana match-up from 9/20 where they also held the opponent to one shot. In each game the defense also allowed no shots on goal.

TOUGH TO BEAT AT THE ROBBIE The Golden Gophers extended their unbeaten streak at the Robbie to 19 matches with their victory over South Dakota. The Golden Gophers are now 18-0-1 in their last 18 home contests. They last lost at the Robbie on 11/8/07, falling 3-4 on penalty kicks, after tying Illinois 2-2 in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament.

NCAA BESTS Bethke’s performance against South Dakota also stands with the best in the NCAA this season. She becomes just the second player in the nation this season to tally 10 points in a single game, and the 10th player with a four-goal game.
