Associate Head Coach Lisa Love

LISA BERVINCHAK-LOVE 28TH SEASON (Penn State, 1989)

One of the biggest contributors to the sustained excellence of the Penn State fi eld hockey program over the past three decades, Lisa Bervinchak-Love enters her 28th year alongside head coach Charlene Morett-Curtiss after playing for her as a student-athlete.

Bervinchak-Love has assisted on several highly successful teams, including a pair of teams that reached the NCAA National Championship game in 2002 and 2007, a 2005 team that won 17-straight games and each of Penn State’s seven Big Ten Tournament championship teams. Bervinchak-Love has been on the sideline for a total of 18 NCAA Tournament appearances by the Nittany Lions and for six Big Ten regular- season championships (1997, 1998, 2005, 2008, 2012, 2013).

In May 2015, Bervinchak-Love was inducted into the Susquehanna Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame.

As a player, Bervinchak-Love, who played three years for the Nittany Lions after transferring from Villanova following her freshman campaign, scored 28 goals in her career. She was also a vocal leader as an All-American captain. As a senior cocaptain, she led the team in scoring with 12 goals and three assists and was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference team. She scored two of the Lions’ goals at the 1988 Atlantic 10 Conference semifi nals and was an all-tournament selection.

Following her graduation in 1989, Love continued to play fi eld hockey at the national level. In 1991, she helped her team win a silver medal at the Olympic Sports Festival in Los Angeles.

A standout student, she was the Student Academic Advisory Board representative at Penn State in 1988. In 1989, Love graduated with a degree in health policy and administration and worked as an intern with the planning and marketing department at Lancaster General Hospital in Pennsylvania.

Following her internship, she was a Penn Manor School District elementary school teacher and assisted head coaches in fi eld hockey and basketball. She also held teaching positions at Central Manor, Farmdale, Burgard and Brecknock elementary schools. Throughout the years, she continued her involvement with the Nittany Lion program as an assistant director and instructor at Penn State camps. Love was a four-sport athlete at Penn Manor High School and earned all-star honors in fi eld hockey and basketball, and was the district champion in the triple jump. She captured the U.S. Indoor Title with the Norlanco Club in 2003 and 2004. She most recently played with Red Rose and helped it win the 2006, 2007 and 2008 club championships.

Love comes from a family of coaches and athletes. Her brother, Jude, is the wrestling coach at Hempfi eld High School in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and brother, Greg, his assistant. Her dad, James, meanwhile, was a football standout at Minersville High School.

She married Steve Love, a Penn State alum and graphic designer in the Penn State creative services department, in 1996. They have two daughters, Taylor and Kelsey (a redshirt freshman on the 2020 Nittany Lion squad).
