Paul Tobin heAD CoACh | FIRST SeASon Paul Tobin enters his first season at the helm of the Saint Francis University men's and women's tennis programs in 2010-11. Tobin comes to Saint Francis with over 25 years of tennis coaching experience, working in all areas of the industry. For the past five years, Tobin served as the head tennis professional at JDS Tennis Center in Macon, Ga. – one of the largest public facilities in the south – and as assistant coach for NCAA Division II Georgia College's highly ranked men’s and women’s teams. Tobin holds the highest levels of certification, receiving a P-1 rating from USPTA, Professional Rating from PTR and is one of only 75 USTA High Performance Coaches in the United States. Tobin has coached at some of the most renowned academies in the United States, including Bollettieri Tennis Academy, Evert Tennis Center and the Port Washington Tennis Academy. As an assistant coach at Georgia College, Tobin helped head coach Steve Barsby lead his squad to an 18-4 overall record with a perfect 7-0 mark in conference play for the first Peach Belt Conference (PBC) men's tennis championship in school history. In 2010, both Georgia College programs turned in strong seasons, with the men taking third in the PBC and going 16-7 overall and the women finishing with a 12-12 mark. Both programs qualified for the NCAA Tournament. Alma mater . . . . . . . .Maryland ’86 Record at SFu . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .0-0 career Record . . . . . . . . . . . .Same
Tobin has also enjoyed coaching assignments at Bollettieri Tennis Academy, Evert Tennis Center, Saddlebrook Tennis Academy and the Port Washington Tennis Academy. He also works with professional tennis player John Isner and University of Georgia head coach Manny Diaz as the Director of On-Court drilling for their summer Nike Tennis Camps. In addition to his accomplishments in coaching, Tobin is also the developer of SlingHopper Drill Bags – a worldwide tennis-teaching product endorsed by legendary coaches Nick Bollettieri and Brad Gilbert, who serve as the company's spokespersons. The product has become widely-used in the coaching community and can be found on the practice courts at all the major Grand Slam events. In 2008, Tobin sold his company to Gamma Sports which distributes the bags worldwide. Season outlook The Saint Francis University women's tennis program is, without doubt, in the midst of one of the most complete overhauls in its history. Under new head coach Paul Tobin who arrived in Loretto in October, the Red Flash were able to participate in only one event in the fall season. While they fell short of a win at Mount St. Mary’s, the Flash put forth a solid effort in the setback. It was a modest opening to what promises to be challenging season for the Flash. Numbers will be an area of concern for the women's team in 2011 with only two returners and two more members – Alex Foty (oakville, ontario/niagara Academy of Tennis) and Tina miller (buffalo, n.Y./ Williamsville north) – being added in the fall. “Our lack of depth is going to present some challenges for us,” said Tobin. “We're going to need some people to step up but I know the women will work hard out there to pull off some wins” Slotted for no. 2 singles this season, women's captain Devynn Sarver (mt. clemens, mich./Fraser) is back for her third go-around in Loretto. The junior compiled seven wins in singles competition last season, including a solid 5-3 mark in NEC play.
laura Husband (Dawson, Pa./connellsville Area) – a six-match winner as a rookie – will be back for her sophomore campaign competing at no. 4 position. Walk-ons beza Dejene (Addis Ababa, ethiopia/lycee Franco-ethiopien guebre mariam) and Rosie clark (Johnstown, Pa./Westmont Hilltop) will add some muchneed depth to the women's roster competing at no. 5 and no. 6 spots, respectively. Due to the fact that the Saint Francis' coaching search extending throughout the fall recruiting cycle, both squads are short on newcomers. Tobin, however, is optimistic about the response he's received on the trail early this year. “I am extremely excited about the response we're getting on the recruiting trail,” said Tobin. “I look forward to welcoming several new members to the Saint Francis men's and women's tennis programs in the fall. “ In the meantime, the Red Flash will face a grueling spring schedule that begins with Navy on Jan. 22 and includes dates with George Mason, Bucknell, Colgate, James Madison, St. John's, Stony Brook, Villanova and Connecticut, which will prepare the young teams for the NEC Tournament in April.

The northeast Conference
W
hen the Northeast Conference (NEC) was first established as the ECAC-Metro Conference back in 1981, the league’s founders had one goal in mind: to create a competitive NCAA Division I men’s basketball conference for unaffiliated schools on the Eastern seaboard. A single-sport entity at its inception, the NEC has grown far beyond expectations over the past three decades, having transformed itself into a burgeoning 12-member, 23-sport conference. To mark the NEC’s 30th Anniversary season in 2010-11, the Conference will proudly celebrate its heritage as its builds toward a promising future. The NEC and its member institutions are committed to providing opportunities for student-athletes to achieve their fullest potential both in athletic competition and in the classroom. Likewise, the Conference continually strives to be an NCAA Division I leader for athletic success, academic achievement and integrity, sportsmanship, equity and diversity, community partnership and national engagement. The remarkable success story of the conference began to unfold in 1985, when the league began sponsoring additional sports. Three years later, a change of name was in order and the Northeast Conference as we know it today was born. With membership and sport sponsorship continuing to grow over the next 25 years, the NEC now enjoys qualification or play-in access to 14 different NCAA Championships (baseball, men’s and women’s basketball, field hockey, football, men’s and women’s golf, women’s lacrosse, men’s and women’s soccer, softball, men’s and women’s tennis and women’s volleyball).
Bryant University in 2012 as the league’s 12th member, which will give the league a six-state geographic footprint with access to such major media markets as New York City, Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Hartford and Providence.
Though the NEC has featured various incarnations since its inception, charter members Fairleigh Dickinson, Long Island, Robert Morris, St. Francis (NY), Saint Francis (PA) and Wagner remain part of the current 12-school alignment. They are joined by Monmouth (admitted in 1985), Mount St. Mary’s (1989), Central Connecticut State (1997), Quinnipiac (1998) and Sacred Heart (1999). NEC expansion continues with the addition of
NEC member institutions now compete in 23 championship sports: baseball, men’s and women’s basketball, women’s bowling, men’s and women’s cross country, field hockey, football, men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’sindoor track and field, men’s and women’s lacrosse, men’s and women’s outdoor track and field, men’s and women’s soccer, softball, women’s swimming, men’s and women’s tennis, and women’s volleyball.

The Stokes Club
Give a Gift, Build a Legacy... Alumni, parents, friends, students, faculty and staff are among those who have generously supported the Saint Francis University Stokes Club. The Stokes club is an organization which provides assistance and support to student-athletes participating in our 21-sport Division I Athletics Program. Our student-athletes and coaches work hard to represent Saint Francis University, and you, in a positive manner year-round. With your recent contributions, Saint Francis Athletics has enjoyed improvements at DeGol Field, which also includes Fr. Bede Hines Track, and the Stokes Softball Field. Contributions have also helped to improved every day working conditions within the athletic department. We are extremely proud of our past athletic and academic accomplishments. However, with your help we can move forward and take our programs to even greater success in the classroom, in the community and in our competition. The future of Red Flash Athletics is very bright because you care about our student-athletes. ME MBERSH IP
