Stacey Bean HEAD COACH | THIRD SEASON
Alma Mater . . . . . . .Laurentian ’93 Record at SFU . . . . . . . . . . . . .5-31 Career Record . . . . . . . . . .86-93-7
A veteran head coach of 12 seasons and a four-time national coach of the year finalist, Stacey Bean enters her third season at the helm of the Saint Francis University Field Hockey program in 2010. After guiding her team to a 2-5 record in the Northeast Conference and a 3-15 mark overall in 2009, Bean welcomes back 14 letterwinners – including every point-scorer from a season ago – for what could well be a milestone campaign for the ninth-year program. Over her two seasons in Loretto, Bean's influence on Red Flash field hockey is undeniable. Under her watch, three student-athletes have been named to All-NEC teams, two ESPN the Magazine Academic All-Americans have been named and a total of 17 SFU players were named to the NEC Academic Honor Roll. The Red Flash have also added two National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Team Academic Awards to their growing list of accomplishments under Bean's tutelage. Prior to her arrival in Loretto, Bean served as the head coach at the University of Rhode Island from 2002 through 2006, guiding many of her former student-athletes to accolades in the classroom and on the turf. She oversaw the development of the first student-athlete in URI athletics history to receive the prestigious NCAA Post Graduate Scholarship. She also had 22 NFHCA Academic Honor Roll selections, three NFHCA Regional All-Americans, 12 Atlantic10 All-Stars, two A-10 All-Rookie Team honorees, an A-10 Defensive Player-of-the-Year and an A-10 Rookie-of-the-Year, in addition to numerous other academic and athletic honorees. Bean was named the 2006 A-10 Coach-of-the-Year when she guided URI to an 8-10 overall record, and a second place conference finish with a 4-3 mark. She also served as the 2002 NFHCA Senior All-Star Game head coach. Prior to her time at Rhode Island, Bean was an assistant coach at Boston College, where she helped oversee the development of five NFHCA Regional All-Americans, one NFHCA National All-American, 10 Big East Conference All-Stars, one Big East Defensive Player-of-the-Year, one Big East Goalkeeper-of-the-Year, and one USA senior national team member in two seasons of work. She joined the Eagles after five seasons as head coach at the University of New Brunswick, where she compiled a 65-15-7 record, and earned four Atlantic University Athletic Association Coach of the Year awards (1995, ’96, ’97 and ’99). Bean was also a finalist for national coach-of-the-year honors in each of those four seasons. During her tenure at UNB, she recruited and developed the first CIAU Top-10 National Academic All-Canadian honoree in the history of UNB athletics. At New Brunswick, Bean coached 18 CIAU Field Hockey all-Canadians, three national Player of the Year honorees, 26 Conference All-Stars and 24 Academic All-Canadians. She also served in several other roles at New Brunswick, including Assistant Director of Campus Recreation, Academic Advisor for the faculty of Kinesiology, course instructor in Kinesiology and as an Advanced Practicum Supervisor in Kinesiology. Bean has also remained active at other levels of field hockey. She was a regional selector for various regional USFHA National Futures Tournament Teams (2000-04), the Massachusetts Futures Elite Site head coach from 2000-02, and was an assistant coach with the Canadian Junior National Squad Identification Camps from 1996-99. Bean earned her bachelor’s degree in physical and health education at Laurentian University in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada, graduating with honors in 1993. She played field hockey at Laurentian for four years (198992), and earned all-conference honors in 1992 from the Ontario Women’s Inter-University Athletic Association. She was a two-time team captain and a player-assistant coach in 1992. Bean moved on to graduate school at New Brunswick, where she led the Varsity Reds to a conference crown and the national title match in her fifth year of eligibility in 1993. She was a CIAU Field Hockey All-Canadian and a CIAU Academic all-Canadian at New Brunswick in 1993. She became the team’s assistant coach the following season. Bean has been a Level 3 certified field hockey coach since 1994, graduated from the NCAA women’s coaching academy in 2005 and completed the NCAA Women’s Coaching Academy Dimension 2 Program in 2010.

Danielle Frank ASSISTANT COACH | FIRST SEASON Joining head coach Stacey Bean on the sidelines for her first season in Loretto is Danielle Frank. Frank was officially announced as the program's first full-time assistant on July 22, 2010. A three-year coaching veteran, Frank most recently served as a graduate assistant coach at Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant, Mich., where she was also a four-year letterwinner as a goalkeeper. "I'm thrilled to have Danielle join our program," said Bean at the time of Frank's appointment. "She brings championship experience from her time at Central Michigan where she helped take the program to the next level as a student-athlete and more recently as a member of their coaching staff.” During her time on the sidelines at CMU, Frank worked primarily with goalkeepers, mentoring the team's starter to a first-team All-Mid-American Conference designation and a spot on the league's all-tournament team in 2009. In all, she coached four All-MAC selections over the 2008 and 2009 campaigns. She spent the 2007 season as a volunteer student assistant coach. As a Chippewa student-athlete, Frank appeared in 78 games between the pipes, starting 70. She made 450 saves, allowing 176 goals in 5245:52 of action for a career 2.35 goals-against average and .719 save percentage. She earned first team All-MAC accolades as a senior, playing nearly every minute in goal for CMU that season. She registered a 2.51 goals-against average and a .705 save percentage while knocking aside 141 shots in her final season. Frank was the goalkeepers coach at the 2008 Syracuse Field Hockey camp, as well as the 2007 and 2008 Utica College Field Hockey Camp. She also worked the 2005 East Coast Field Hockey Camp as an assistant goalkeeper coach. Frank earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from CMU in 2008 along with a M.A. in Sports Administration in May of 2010.

Season Outlook Under third-year head coach Stacey Bean, the Red Flash field hockey team will return an experienced squad, poised to make great strides from a 2-16 season a year ago. Saint Francis boasts a veteran roster composed of 10 players with starting experience and 14 letterwinners, including every player to register a goal or assist in 2009. Leading the squad on the field will be team's trio of senior captains: Julia Baczeski, Caitlin Brown and Eileen Paccione. With a combined 127 games of experience between them, they will be called upon to set the tone for the 2010 team, which will feature six incoming freshmen.
FORWARDS Baczeski will transition to the forward position after registering a point a season ago from midfield. Fellow senior Rebecca Reiff – who registered a goal and an assist on a team-high 23 shots in 2009 – will join Baczeski on the frontlines. Both Baczeski and Reiff could also see time as a midfielder as the season unfolds. Junior Julia Moore and sophomore Kellie Mason each scored a team-best two goals last season despite logging just over 1,000 minutes between them. Moore, who appeared in 17 games, and Mason, who battled back from injury to appear in SFU's final 10 games of 2009, will be counted on to contribute at a higher level in 2010. The team is expecting incoming freshman Jocelyn Scillia to make an immediate impact in the line-up. Junior Allison Goldstein will be called upon to play on both the forward and backfield lines this season. While junior Taryn McCrobie will work to earn playing time up front over the course of the year.
MIDFIELDERS Coach Bean welcomes back a veteran crew at midfield this season, which saw three of its four returners start every one of SFU's 18 matches in 2009. Junior Claire Wilkie, drew 13 starts while playing in 14 matches on the forward line last season, she will look to make the transition to the midfield in 2010. Paccione follows in her sister Annie's footsteps by serving as a Red Flash captain after logging the most minutes among the team's returners (1,196) a year ago. Paccione registered one point last season as she assisted on Wilkie's game-winning goal against Siena. Sophomores Tia Dudukovich and Kate Rossman also return and will once again look to spark the Red Flash offense. Dudukovich notched three assists and fired five shots on goal in 2009, while one of Rossman's four shots found the back of the net. After primarily playing in the backfield during the 2009 season, Rossman will be called upon to contribute in both the midfield and the backfield in 2010. The Red Flash are looking for freshmen Rachel Behne and Lottie Chipego to battle for playing time over the course of their rookie campaigns as they contribute at both midfield and back.
BACKS Brown – the team's lone returning All-NEC selection – started 15 games on defense last season, playing a total of 1,039 minutes and leading the team with two defensive saves. Brown also displayed a penchant for keeping opposing keepers on their toes by firing 21 shots – eight of which were on goal. She is considered to be an option at midfield heading into the season. The unit's second senior, Heather Tiernan, appeared in all 18 games for the Flash in 2009 while logging 1,195 minutes and firing a shot. Tiernan will see time at midfield, as well. Also returning on defense are junior Kara Mealey and sophomore Taylor Harvey, who will look to step up their contributions to the team after serving in reserve roles last season. The freshman duo of Courtney Loose and Erica Johnson will called upon to add depth in the position throughout the season.
GOALKEEPERS
DUDUKOVICH
Saint Francis returns a pair of junior goalkeepers, Katelyn Vitali and Kelsey Gavigan, in 2010. Vitali split duties in goal with recent-graduate Sara Dittmann last season. Vitali appeared in
17
WILKIE 11 games, starting seven, while posting a 2-3 record and a pair of shutouts. In nearly 670 minutes of action, she surrendered 17 goals for a goals-against average of 1.78 and registered a save percentage of .800. After sitting out the 2009 campaign due to injury, Gavigan will challenge the other keepers as she looks to see her first action in goal for the Flash this season. Freshman Jill DiCola will also be in the mix to see game time at the position throughout the year.
SCHEDULE A rigorous non-conference schedule, featuring a home and away series against Lock Haven, dates with Georgetown and Temple, and a neutral-site home match with Appalachian State will prepare the Flash for a seven-match regular season league slate that begins with a home showdown against Monmouth on Oct. 10. Saint Francis will open the 2010 season with an Aug. 28 appointment against Davidson at American University. The next day's 11 a.m. matchup with the Hoyas will also take place at American. Temple's Sept. 3 visit to Loretto will open up the eight-match home schedule that concludes with an Oct. 29 game against the Colonials of Robert Morris. The regular season wraps up with a match at Rider on Halloween. The league's top four teams will qualify to compete in the NEC Championships the following weekend at the home field of the top seeded team.

The Northeast Conference
W
hen the Northeast Conference (NEC) was first established as the ECAC-Metro Conference back in 1981, the league’s founders had one goal in mind: to create a competitive NCAA Division I men’s basketball conference for unaffiliated schools on the Eastern seaboard. A single-sport entity at its inception, the NEC has grown far beyond expectations over the past three decades, having transformed itself into a burgeoning 12-member, 23-sport conference. To mark the NEC’s 30th Anniversary season in 2010-11, the Conference will proudly celebrate its heritage as its builds toward a promising future.
The NEC and its member institutions are committed to providing opportunities for student-athletes to achieve their fullest potential both in athletic competition and in the classroom. Likewise, the Conference continually strives to be an NCAA Division I leader for athletic success, academic achievement and integrity, sportsmanship, equity and diversity, community partnership and national engagement. The remarkable success story of the conference began to unfold in 1985, when the league began sponsoring additional sports. Three years later, a change of name was in order and the Northeast Conference as we know it today was born. With membership and sport sponsorship continuing to grow over the next 25 years, the NEC now enjoys qualification or play-in access to 14 different NCAA Championships (baseball, men’s and women’s basketball, field hockey, football, men’s and women’s golf, women’s lacrosse, men’s and women’s soccer, softball, men’s and women’s tennis and women’s volleyball).
Bryant University in 2012 as the league’s 12th member, which will give the league a six-state geographic footprint with access to such major media markets as New York City, Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Hartford and Providence.
Though the NEC has featured various incarnations since its inception, charter members Fairleigh Dickinson, Long Island, Robert Morris, St. Francis (NY), Saint Francis (PA) and Wagner remain part of the current 12-school alignment. They are joined by Monmouth (admitted in 1985), Mount St. Mary’s (1989), Central Connecticut State (1997), Quinnipiac (1998) and Sacred Heart (1999). NEC expansion continues with the addition of
NEC member institutions now compete in 23 championship sports: baseball, men’s and women’s basketball, women’s bowling, men’s and women’s cross country, field hockey, football, men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’sindoor track and field, men’s and women’s lacrosse, men’s and women’s outdoor track and field, men’s and women’s soccer, softball, women’s swimming, men’s and women’s tennis, and women’s volleyball.

The Stokes Club
Give a Gift, Build a Legacy... Alumni, parents, friends, students, faculty and staff are among those who have generously supported the Saint Francis University Stokes Club. The Stokes club is an organization which provides assistance and support to student-athletes participating in our 21-sport Division I Athletics Program. Our student-athletes and coaches work hard to represent Saint Francis University, and you, in a positive manner year-round. With your recent contributions, Saint Francis Athletics has enjoyed improvements at DeGol Field, which also includes Fr. Bede Hines Track, and the Stokes Softball Field. Contributions have also helped to improved every day working conditions within the athletic department. We are extremely proud of our past athletic and academic accomplishments. However, with your help we can move forward and take our programs to even greater success in the classroom, in the community and in our competition. The future of Red Flash Athletics is very bright because you care about our student-athletes. ME MBERSH IP
