Editor’s Letter: Ever since I was a kid, I have been going to football games. We spent every Friday night at the high school field. Saturdays were spent in Knoxville watching the Big Orange play. Unfortunately, we didn’t have an NFL team where I lived so Sundays were spent in front of the TV with my dad and two brothers. My point is that there is NOTHING like football season!!! I can watch just about any game. But there is no better football than there is in the South. Welcome to the Southern Football Guide. This is the first edition of SFG in a digital format. We hope that you love football as much as we do. Yes we know Boston College and Maryland are not in the south but they are part of the ACC. This digital magazine will give you a quick glance at every team in the SEC and the ACC. We tried to pack as much information about those teams in one page as we could. We also want to be a reference guide for all college and NFL schedules all the way to the Bowl schedules at the end of the year. Plus, a Fantasy League section. Our digital magazine is packed with awesome photography! We even have a shot of a cheerleader or two. If you like what you see and read, pass along to a friend. It is FREE!!! We will be publishing a Bowl Preview Guide in December, a Recruiting Guide in February and a Spring Football Guide in May so make sure to subscribe. Shoot me an email and let us know what you think.

BOSTON COLLEGE Head Coach: Frank Spaziani

Off Coord: Doug Martin

2011 Record: 4-8 (3-5)

Founded: 1863

Chestnut Hill, Mass.

OFFENSE: Former Kent State head coach Doug Martin was hired to bring life back into the Eagles’ offense. After sitting at the bottom of the ACC in terms of production, Chase Rettig returns at quarterback to try and lift the Eagles. Rettig has a big arm and is a capable leader, but will have to improve his decision making and gain confidence. Chris Pantale is a physical 6-foot-6, 251pound tight end, and has the ability to be the best in the ACC in 2012. Colin Larmond returns at wide receiver and is a reliable veteran. The school’s leading career rusher, Montel Harris, was released from the team in spring for violating team rules and either Andre Williams, Tahj Kimble or Rolandan Finch will try to fill his shoes. Williams is slated to be the starter and will run behind a line returning four starters. The offensive line is deep and has size on the first and second unit. The future of the Eagles’ line is bright. DEFENSE: The Eagles lose one of the most special players in college football over the past three seasons. LB Luke Kuechly left and was taken in the first round after winning the Butkus Award and leading the nation with 191 tackles in his junior season. Another future NFL prospect Kevin Pierre-Louis will fill in and do his best to fill in some of Kuechly’s production. If the staff decides to keep Pierre-Louis outside, then sophomore Sean Duggan could take over the middle linebacker spot. Steele Divotto will start on the strong side and rounds up a very talented linebacking corps despite the loss of Kuechly. The secondary has some talent with senior safety Jim Noel returning, but will struggle beyond the first team. On the interior of the line, the Eagles will return Dillon Quinn who will team up with Kaleb Ramsey at tackle. On the ends are Kasim Edebali and Brian Mihalik, who will corral plays inside towards their talented linebackers. 2012 SCHEDULE Sep 1 Miami (Fla.) NEWCOMERS LT Win Homer, 6-5, 250 Topped the Eagles’ recruiting class, and will see early playing time. CB Albert Louis-Jean Jr., 6-2, 183 - Tall defensive back has won the starting job for the Eagles. SS David Dudeck, 6-0, 195 Freshman from New Jersey who could provide much-needed depth at safety.

CLEMSON Head Coach: Dabo Swinney 2011 Record: 10-3 (6-2)

Off Coord: Chad Morris

Clemson, S.C.

Def Coord: Charlie Harbison , Brent Venables

Founded: 1889

OFFENSE: The Clemson Tigers’ offense popped in 2011 with Tajh Boyd under center, and the Tigers return 22 lettermen on offense from last year’s ACC championship team. Boyd surpassed the 3,000-yard plateau and he will once again have All-American Sammy Watkins and DeAndre Hopkins back on the outside. Andre Ellington topped 1,000 yards rushing last season and he could benefit once again from teams loading up to stop the receivers. Clemson returns its top seven rushers from one year ago and eight of its top nine receivers, so expect plenty of yards to be gained. The only question about the offense surrounds three new starters on the offensive line. Dalton Freeman returns at center after receiving first-team All-ACC honors last year. Brandon Thomas can play either tackle or guard. Finally, look for Clemson to add an extra wide receiver to the starting 11 after the loss of TE Dwayne Allen, who is now in the NFL. DEFENSE: Brent Venables brings plenty of experience to Clemson in his role with the defense. The new defensive coordinator will have plenty of talent as six of the top eight tacklers from 2011 return. Rashard Hall and Malliciah Goodman both return after outstanding seasons a year ago. Goodman will no doubt be the leader of the line as the rest of the projected starters lack major experience. Corey Crawford earned some playing time while learning from Andre Branch and Brandon Thompson the last few seasons. Crawford registered 29 tackles as a backup in 2011. DeShawn Williams and Grady Jarrett played sparingly, but the coaches like the makeup of both players and could put them ahead of Tavaris Barnes and Josh Watson. Corico Hawkins played a bunch last season and he will likely be joined by Stephone Anthony and Quandon Christian, who both earned playing time in 2011. Look for Xavier Brewer and Hall to lead the secondary. 2012 SCHEDULE

FLORIDA STATE Head Coach: Jimbo Fisher

Off Coord: James Coley

2011 Record: 9-4 (5-3)

Founded: 1851

Tallahassee, Fl.

OFFENSE: A 9-4 season capped by a win in the Champs Sports Bowl over Notre Dame was the story for the Florida State Seminoles, who entered last season with soaring expectations only to fall just shy of reaching them. Quarterback EJ Manuel returns to guide the Seminoles offense and will look to improve on a solid 2011 season which saw him pass for 2,666 yards and 18 touchdowns. James Coley’s offensive unit has the ability to score in bunches, coming off a season that saw the team average more than 30 points per game while accumulating nearly 250 passing yards and more than 100 rushing yards per contest. The receivers, led by Rodney Smith and Rashad Greene, have big-game experience and should produce strong numbers for the Seminoles. An experienced running attack, led by small, but agile backs Chris Thompson and Devonta Freeman, is also expected to be a key aspect of the Seminoles offense.

DEFENSE: Mark Stoops’ defensive unit was absolutely stellar last season, surrendering just 15 points per game while allowing 80 yards on the ground to opponents. The defensive line, led by defensive end Brandon Jenkins, was a terror to opposing quarterbacks last season, as three Seminoles had more than five sacks last season, including Jenkins, who had a team-high 8.5. Even with the loss of leading tackler, Nigel Bradham, who was drafted by the Buffalo Bills, the team should get plenty of big contributions from the remaining members of the stout line, such as Bjoern Werner and Christian Jones. Also, a strong secondary, with safeties Lamarcus Joyner, who had a team-high four interceptions last season, and Terrence Brooks returning, along with cornerback Xavier Rhodes returning to beef up a unit that allowed less than 240 passing yards per game. With many returning faces from last season, Stoops shouldn’t expect any kind of regression to take place. 2012 SCHEDULE Sep 1 Murray State Sep 8 Savannah State Sep 15 Wake Forest Sep 22 Clemson Sep 29 @South Florida Oct 6 @N. MARYLAND Head Coach: Randy Edsall

Off Coord: Mike Locksley

2011 Record: 2-10 (1-7)

Founded: 1807

College Park, MD

OFFENSE: The Maryland offense returns five starters from a unit that struggled at times under new coach Randy Edsall. The team finished sixth in total offense and 10th in scoring offense in the ACC. This year the offense will likely flow through All-ACC tight end Matt Furstenburg. Last season, Furstenburg started all 12 games and finished third in the conference in receptions per game and receiving yards. He was recently named to the preseason watch list for the Mackey Award. Junior quarterback C.J. Brown will also have wide receivers Kevin Dorsey and Kerry Boykins to target as he takes over under center full time. He can also scramble if everyone is covered as he rushed for 574 yards. New offensive coordinator Mike Locksley is installing a pro-style attack with elements of the spread. Bennett Fulper and Justin Gilbert are back to anchor the offensive line, which features up to six players with starting experience on the depth chart.

DEFENSE: The Terps’ defense will be led by 2011 AllAmerican lineman Joe Vellano. Vellano is one of the top defenders in the nation and has been nominated for the Bednarik, Lombardi, Walter Camp, Nagurski and Outland awards. He was All-ACC one year ago and is preseason All-ACC again this year. Demetrius Hartsfield is also back as the ACC’s active career leader in tackles with 260. Vellano and Hartsfield are two of 10 starters returning from last year’s squad that scored five times, tied for sixth-most in the FBS. Darin Drakeford, meanwhile, forced an ACC-high four fumbles in 2011. Eric Franklin was sixth in the ACC last season in tackles and his four pass breakups were tied for second on the Maryland defense. He will be counted upon for leadership in the secondary. Look for Keith Bowers, L.A. Goree and Andre Monroe to build on solid freshman seasons as they provide depth in the front seven of Brian Stewart’s 3-4 scheme. 2012 SCHEDULE

2011 Record: 8-5 (4-4)

Founded: 1887

Raleigh, N.C.

OFFENSE: The 6-foot-6, 232-pound Mike Glennon will start at QB for the Wolfpack during 2012. The fifthyear senior Glennon went for 31 touchdowns, 3,054 yards and completed 62.5 percent of his passes in his first season as a starter. The line returns four starters and is deep with talent that will give the quarterback a comfortable pocket. Running was a weakness last season, but Tony Creecy showed he is a capable running back. Creecy could have a break-out sophomore season sharing carries with James Washington and Logan Winkles. Returning starter Tobais Palmer will be the No. 1 target at wide receiver and is joined by Bryan Underwood and 6-foot-4 Quintin Payton. Mario Carter will start at tight end and replace last year’s all-conference tight end George Bryan. There is a lot of leadership and returning talent on the offensive side of the football and Glennon is confident and capable to lead the Pack. DEFENSE: A veteran secondary leads the Wolfpack defense. Cornerback David Amerson is the leader and set an ACC record with an impressive 13 interceptions last season. Amerson, an all-american, and senior safety Earl Wolff provide talent and lots of confidence. The pair helped lead the Pack last season to an NCAA-best 27 total interceptions, and the four returning starters have 114 career interceptions between them. At linebacker there is much more uncertainty. The Wolfpack lost their leading tackler and starting outside linebacker to the draft while D.J. Green, another starting LB from 2011, is serving a season-long suspension after testing positive for a banned substance. Fortunately the line has plenty of talent, and veterans Brian Slay and Darryl Cato-Bishop are great at the end position. Sophomore Thomas Teal is a talented tackle and adds to a very dangerous rotation. This will be a special defensive unit in 2012 and the solid line and the big-play secondary will make it difficult for offenses to move the ball. 2012 SCHEDULE Aug 31 @Tennessee Sep 8 @Connecticut Sep 15 South Alabama Sep 22 The Citadel Sep 29 @Miami (Fla.) WAKE FOREST Head Coach: Jim Grobe 2011 Record: 6-7 (5-3)

Off Coord: Steed Lobotzke

Winston-Salem, N.C.

Founded: 1834

OFFENSE: Look for the Demon Deacons’ unique version of the spread offense to benefit from a talented backfield in 2012. Offensive coordinator Steed Lobotzke will utilize speedy backs Orville Reynolds (a sophomore) and Josh Harris (a junior) in the running game. Both backs add electric speed to the backfield and if this tandem stays healthy, they will task any defense. Garrick Williams is the only returning starter on the offensive line that lost four of its five starters. The inexperienced Deacs will have to buy time for left-handed gunslinger Tanner Price, who is entering his junior season coming off a 3,017-yard and 20-touchdown 2011 season. Chris Givens was Wake’s deep threat a year ago, but left early to enter the NFL draft. Junior Michael Campanaro will lead the corps now and had 73 catches in 2011. Terrence Davis joins Campanaro out wide and comes off a solid five-touchdown season. DEFENSE: The defense is returning seven talented starters and was a much-improved unit a year ago after struggling in previous seasons. However, Wake must improve the pass rush, which sacked opposing QBs an ACC-worst 11 times last season. Nikita Whitlock is consistently unblockable at nose guard and the Deacons’ 3-4 defense is based around him. Zach Thompson and Kris Redding will start at end in 2012. Redding has a great upside and Thompson has shown All-ACC ability at times. The unit is led by Merrill Noel who broke up a school-record 19 passes in 2011 in what also was his first year as a starter. Kevin Johnson starts opposite of Noel while Duran Lowe and Daniel Mack will start at safeties. The starting linebacker unit is returning in tact. Mike Olson is a hard hitter and leads the core from the inside with Riley Haynes. Justin Jackson and Joey Ehrmann round up a dangerous group of backers. 2012 SCHEDULE Sep 1 Liberty Sep 8 North Carolina Sep 15 @Florida St. Sep 22 Army Sep 29 Duke Oct 6 @Maryland Oct 20 @Virginia Oct 25 Clemson Nov 3 Boston College Nov 10 @N. NEWCOMERS WR Jonathan Williams, 6-4, 170 - The rangy receiver from Atlanta adds athleticism and speed to the WR corps. QB Tyler Cameron, 6-3, 210 - Could get snaps this season, pegged as the QB of the future for the Deacs. TE Anthony Rook, 6-4, 235 After losing two top TEs, Wake will depend on Rook to play significant time this year.

DUKE Head Coach: David Cutcliffe 2011 Record: 3-9 (1-7)

Durham, N.C.

Off Coord: Kurt Roper

Def Coord: Jim Collins, Jim Knowles

Founded: 1838

Stadium: Wallace Wade Capacity: 33,941

OFFENSE: Despite another losing season behind them, coach David Cutcliffe and the Duke Blue Devils continue to make strides in the right direction. Senior quarterback Sean Renfree is back under center and hopes to build on yet another solid season in 2011, when he passed for 2,891 yards and 14 touchdowns. Turnovers, however, continue to be an issue for him, although he decreased his interception total from 17 in 2010 to 11 in 2011. Renfree will have a solid receiving unit at his disposal as senior wide receiver Conner Vernon returns coming off a season when he had 956 receiving yards and six touchdowns, both team highs. Look for Jamison Crowder along with Blair Holiday to compliment Vernon. The Devils’ second leading receiver, Brandon Braxton will be moved to defense. The rushing attack, led by Desmond Scott, is also expected to improve on last season, when the Blue Devils averaged 94 yards on the ground.

DEFENSE: Although the Blue Devils improved on their points allowed per game total from 2010, when they allowed 35.4 points per game, it wasn’t much of a decrease as they still surrendered 31.2 points per contest. Defensive coordinator Jim Knowles’ unit must improve on stopping the run, as it allowed 180 yards per game on the ground. The secondary, however, is one of the strengths as safety Walt Canty is returning coming off of a season in which he accumulated 87 tackles. Speedy cornerback Ross Cockrell will also help anchor the unit. Linebacker Kelby Brown returns after a season in which he had 65 tackles to help aid a defensive line that still needs major improvement on stopping the run in order to find itself amongst the ACC’s elite. The Blue Devils defensive line also continued to struggle at getting to the opposing quarterback, with just 17 total sacks in 2011. 2012 SCHEDULE Sep 1 FIU Sep 8 @Stanford Sep 15 North Carolina Ctl Sep 22 Memphis Sep 29 @Wake Forest Oct 6 Virginia Oct 13 @Virginia Tech Oct 20 North Carolina Oct 27 @Florida St. Nov 3 Clemson Nov 17 @Georgia Tech Nov 24 Miami (Fla.)

GEORGIA TECH Head Coach: Paul Johnson

Off Coord: Paul Johnson

2011 Record: 8-5 (5-3)

Founded: 1885

Atlanta, GA

OFFENSE: Coming off a season in which the Jackets got off to a hot start but struggled down the stretch, Georgia Tech is looking for consistency during the 2012 season as several key pieces from the 2011 campaign return. The quarterback position is still held by senior Tevin Washington, although redshirt sophomore Synjyn Days could see some snaps throughout the season depending on Washington’s performance. Look for Days receive plenty of action in the running game as Johnson utilizes his signature triple-option offensive scheme. Despite the loss of Roddy Jones, the running game should still thrive as senior Orwin Smith, who rushed for 11 touchdowns last season, will be the primary halfback to go along with senior fullback David Sims, who rushed for 698 yards and seven touchdowns last season. The team is looking to fill the void left by WR Stephen Hill and will need Jeff Greene or Darren Waller to emerge as a deep target for Washington.

DEFENSE: Defensive coordinator Al Groh utilizes a 3-4 defensive scheme on a team that he hopes will improve on the average of 26 points per game allowed last season. The ball-control offensive attack is a key advantage the Yellow Jackets have with a defensive unit that could use a spark. However, the team will likely be without senior linebacker Julian Burnett, who led the team in tackles last season and suffered a severe neck injury during the Sun Bowl loss to Utah. Even without Burnett, the team maintained much of its depth at defensive line as Izaan Cross, Emmanuel Dieke and Euclid Cummings are all returning at defensive end. Also returning is linebacker Jeremiah Attaochu, who led the Jackets with 6.0 sacks last season to go along with 59 tackles. Depth and experience will be important for the team as Tech looks to improve on getting key stops, particularly in the running game where they surrendered 161 yards per game. 2012 SCHEDULE

MIAMI Head Coach: Al Golden

2011 Record: 6-6 (3-5)

Founded: 1926

Coral Gables, FL

OFFENSE: The Hurricanes’ offense will have a different look from last year as eight starters from 2011 are no longer with the team. Stephen Morris and Ryan Williams will battle it out for the starting quarterback job. Morris has the edge in experience as a starter, but Williams impressed during spring practice with Morris out due to injury. The Hurricanes must replace all of their skill position players and will look to senior RB Mike James to step into the hole left by Lamar Miller’s early exit to the NFL. James was the short yardage and goalline back for the Canes in 2011 rushing for 275 yards and seven touchdowns. The receiving corps is young and inexperienced, but is an extremely athletic and speedy group. The offensive line also features a number of new faces, but will look to make up for that inexperience with their size and talent as the unit averages 6-foot-6, 317 pounds per man. DEFENSE: Defense has long been the calling card of the Hurricanes, and in 2011, despite playing shorthanded much of the year due to suspensions, Miami ranked 18th in the country in points against. The 2012 squad will try to replicate last season’s success, but will need to replace a few of their key starters from 2011. The Miami defense suffered a big loss this offseason with the dismissal of safety Ray-Ray Armstrong, one of the top safeties in the country. The Canes’ defense does return five starters, most notably safety Vaughn Telemaque and corner Brandon McGee. They will have to replace their leader on the field and in the locker room as linebacker Sean Spence has moved on to the NFL. Filling his shoes will be Denzel Perryman, who moves inside after playing Sam linebacker where he recorded 67 tackles in 2011. Shayon Green will take the place of Olivier Vernon, who was one of the top pass rushers for Miami last year. 2012 SCHEDULE

NORTH CAROLINA Head Coach: Larry Fedora 2011 Record: 7-6 (3-5)

Off Coord: Blake Anderson

Chapel Hill, N.C.

Founded: 1789

OFFENSE: With a new head coach in Larry Fedora comes a new offensive philosophy. Instead of the pro-style offense the Tar Heels ran under head coaches Butch Davis and Everett Withers, the Tar Heels will run a no-huddle spread attack. QB Bryn Renner ran the pro-style offense to perfection, but now has to adapt to a new system that will see him run the ball more and get the ball out of his hands quickly. RB Giovani Bernard was a stud last year as he led all freshmen with 96 rushing yards per game. He will have to adjust not having a fullback to protect him this year. The wide receivers are talented but will miss Dwight Jones. Erik Highsmith is the most reliable and Jheranie Boyd looks to have that breakout year that fans have been waiting for. Guard Jonathan Cooper leads an offensive line that very well could be the best in the ACC.

DEFENSE: Like the offense, the stop troops are getting a makeover. Instead of the 4-3, the Tar Heels will run a 4-2-5 which will feature a lineman/linebacker (Bandit) and linebacker/defensive back (Ram). LB Kevin Reddick should be the star on the defense, but will need either Tommy Heffernan or Travis Hughes to make plays also. The defensive line won’t be as strong as it has been in recent years but the addition of a Bandit should help the defensive line generate pressure. Dion Guy will be the Bandit and he should be in position to make plays on a consistent basis. DT Sylvester Williams will also anchor the defensive line and looks to make more plays after losing 30 pounds. SS Tre Boston looks to lead a secondary that was 10th in the ACC in pass defense last year. Boston led the Tar Heels with three interceptions. North Carolina also hopes the Gene Robinson can make plays from the Ram position. 2012 SCHEDULE Sep 1 Elon Sep 8 @Wake Forest Sep 15 @Louisville Sep 22 East Carolina Sep 29 Idaho Oct 6 Virginia Tech Oct 13 @Miami (Fla.) VIRGINIA Head Coach: Mike London

Off Coord: Bill Lazor

2011 Record: 8-5 (5-3)

Founded: 1819

Charlottesville, VA.

OFFENSE: The Virginia Cavaliers’ offensive attack will once again be led by a two-headed quarterback system as Michael Rocco and David Watford both return to Mike London’s backfield. Last season, the two combined for more than 3,000 yards passing with 16 combined touchdowns. Watford, though, is known as more of a runner, and he will combine with Perry Jones and Kevin Parks to rack up 1,666 rushing yards. Parks scored nine touchdowns his freshman season and looks to rack up more yardage behind five upperclassmen on the offensive line. Morgan Moses is a mountain of a man at right tackle, standing 6-foot-6, 335 pounds while LT Oday Aboushi is preseason All-ACC. Colter Phillips returns at the tight end position, following in the footsteps of past high-profile Virginia tight ends. Whoever is under center will be looking Phillips’ way with 2011 leading receiver Kris Burd graduating. Tim Smith is the top returning receiver with 565 yards last season.

DEFENSE: The Wahoos will be a bit thin on experience at cornerback with three sophomores projected as starters following spring practice. Chase Minnifield departed, leaving sophomore Demetrious Nicholson as the only returning player with more than one interception from 2011. The unit will lean on Nicholson, who started last season as a freshman. Steve Greer returns at linebacker after leading the team one season ago with 103 tackles. He was named by the media to the preseason All-ACC team after finishing 2011 on the All-ACC second-team. He has also been nominated for the Nagurski, Lott and Lombardi awards. The defensive unit recorded just 20 sacks one year ago and three of the top four sack leaders from one year ago are gone. The front four will rely upon defensive tackles Chris Brathwaite and Will Hill on the inside to take some pressure off of the ends and free up the linebackers to make plays. 2012 SCHEDULE Sep 1 Richmond Sep 8 Penn St. Sep 15 @Georgia Tech Sep 22 @TCU Sep 29 Louisiana Tech Oct 6 @Duke Oct 13 Maryland Oct 20 Wake Forest Nov 3 @N. NEWCOMERS CB C.J. Moore, 5-11, 160 The Georgia native can play in all three phases and is the nephew of Olympian Gail Devers. QB Phillip Sims, 6-2, 215 The Alabama transfer is eligible immediately and could see early playing time. DE Mike Moore, 6-4, 265 He racked up 14 sacks during his senior year at DeMatha Catholic.

VIRGINIA TECH Head Coach: Frank Beamer

Off Coord: MIke O’Cain

2011 Record: 11-3 (7-1)

Founded: 1872

Blacksburg, VA.

OFFENSE: Any discussion of the Virginia Tech offense must begin with quarterback Logan Thomas. Last year as a sophomore, Thomas completed 60 percent of his passes for 3,013 yards while running for another 589 yards. At 6-foot-6, 245 pounds, he is a load to bring down, especially when running the new pistol offense. He will need to be elusive as the offense loses four linemen from 2011, as well as two of his wide receiver targets and the top two running backs including David Wilson. Redshirt freshman Michael Holmes will step in at running back. When Thomas looks downfield, he will see three senior wide receivers including D.J. Coles, Dyrell Roberts and Marcus Davis. Up front, look for junior center Andrew Miller to whip the new starters into shape. Nick Becton has a little bit of experience at left tackle. The coaches are expecting big things from guard Brent Benedict and right tackle Vinston Painter.

DEFENSE: The front seven of Bud Foster’s defense returns nearly intact and should once again be intimidating in the pass rush. Foster loves to play aggressively and the returning experience should allow him to attack the opposing quarterback. The front four is led by ends J.R. Collins and James Gayle, who combined for 13 sacks a year ago. In the middle, junior Derrick Hopkins and his three sacks returns. He will be flanked by Luther Maddy, who had an excellent spring. At linebacker, Bruce Taylor is back healthy while Tariq Edwards is back for his junior season. Last year, Edwards accounted for 3.5 sacks and two interceptions from his linebacker spot. In the secondary, Antone Exum moved from safety to corner to replace Jayron Hosley. Look for Kyshoen Jarrett and Detrick Bonner to try and lock up the safety spots by the time the season opener against Georgia Tech game rolls around on Monday, Sept. 3. 2012 SCHEDULE

FLORIDA Head Coach: Will Muschamp

Off Coord: Brent Pease

2011 Record: 7-6 (3-5)

Founded: 1853

Gainesville, Fl.

OFFENSE: Long known for their high-flying, dynamic offense, the Gators have fallen on hard times the past two seasons. QB John Brantley was injured last year against Alabama and the offense never really recovered. Sophomores Jacoby Brissett and Jeff Driskel will fight it out in fall camp for the chance to start under center. Last season, Brissett threw for 206 yards and two TDs while Driskel had 148 yards passing with no scores. Both are threats on the ground, although the pair combined for just 25 yards rushing in 2011. Speedsters Jeff Demps and Chris Rainey have departed, but Florida will not have a lack of talent at RB this year. Mike Gillislee will get the lion’s share of carries to start the year, as the senior ran for 328 yards and two TDs last season. Junior Mack Brown will also figure into the mix. Andre DuBose leads a talented WR corps. The OL, led by James Wilson and Chaz Green, could be one of the SEC’s best.

DEFENSE: While the offense has struggled lately, the defense has been sensational. In a conference dominated by air-tight defenses, the Gators have not stood out. But this season, Florida returns several starters and could become one of the most dominating units in the nation. DE Ronald Powell led the team in sacks in 2011 with six, but tore his ACL in the spring and will miss most, if not all, of the season. Lerentee McCray will start at the Buck in place of Powell. The other end, Sharrif Floyd, tallied 6.5 TFLs. Two of the team’s top three tacklers, Jelani Jenkins and Jon Bostic, return and will start at linebacker. The secondary returns veterans Matt Elam, Cody Riggs and Josh Evans. This season, Florida will try to improve upon the 14 turnovers they caused last season (112th in the nation), well below conference leaders Georgia, which caused 32. The Gators will try to improve on fumble recoveries, of which they had just six in 2011. 2012 SCHEDULE

GEORGIA Head Coach: Mark Richt 2011 Record: 10-4 (7-1)

Off Coord: Mike Bobo Athens, GA.

Founded: 1785

OFFENSE: Quarterback Aaron Murray, a Heisman Trophy contender, returns to pick up where the Dawgs left off last season. Georgia made it to the SEC Championship in 2011 and Murray will look to get the team to Atlanta again this season. The quarterback set the school record for passing touchdowns last year with 37 and will have most of his weapons returning this season. Tavarres King, who led the team with 47 receptions, 705 yards receiving and eight touchdowns, returns for his senior season along with Marlon Brown, Chris Conley, Malcolm Mitchell and Michael Bennett in Georgia’s strong receiving corps. The team lost Murray’s favorite target, TE Orson Charles, to the NFL Draft, but Georgia will have Arthur Lynch and Jay Rome to fill Charles’ role. In the backfield, Georgia dismissed RB Isaiah Crowell over the summer. Ken Malcome and Richard Samuel will split carries with highly touted freshmen Keith Marshall and Todd Gurley.

DEFENSE: Georgia’s defense was ranked in the top five in the country last season in many categories and is expected to be even better this season. All-American linebacker Jarvis Jones spurned the NFL last season to return to Georgia after a 13.5 sack season. He is someone that offenses will have to watch out for. Cornelius Washington played the outside linebacker position but will shift to defensive end, where he will join Abry Jones, John Jenkins and Kwame Geathers on the defensive line. Jenkins and Geathers are run-stuffers with monster size for the Bulldogs at 350 pounds apiece. The Dawgs are deep in both skill and experience at the inside linebacker position with Alec Ogletree, Mike Gilliard and Christian Robinson all returning. The Dawgs face trouble in the secondary with CB Sanders Commings and FS Bacarri Rambo out early in the season due to suspensions. Sophomore Malcolm Mitchell will split time on defense and offense to help offset the loss. 2012 SCHEDULE Sep 1 Buffalo Sep 8 @Missouri Sep 15 Fla. KENTUCKY Head Coach: Joker Phillips 2011 Record: 5-7 (2-6)

Off Coord: Randy Sanders

Lexington, Kentucky

Founded: 1865

OFFENSE: Kentucky had one of the worst offenses in the league in 2011 ranking 117th in the nation in points per game with just 15.8. Max Smith has the starting quarterback job, but will be pushed by Morgan Newton. The two split time last season with both putting up comparable numbers. Smith held a slight edge in yards, but Newton threw for more touchdowns. The Wildcats return most all of their statistical leaders from last season and will hope that another year together will bring improvement off of last year’s poor performance. La’Rod King was one of the bright spots from last season with 598 yards receiving and seven touchdowns, and the Wildcats will look for King to yet again be a big-play threat on the outside. One key to improve upon offensively will be cutting down on turnovers as they averaged two per game in 2011 (12 interceptions and 12 fumbles lost).

DEFENSE: The defense performed much better than the offense in 2011, ranking 53rd in the nation in points per game with 24.7. The Wildcats were able to turn opponents over 25 times in 2011 and will look to do the same this season. Kentucky will have a new-look defense with new starters at all secondary and linebacker positions. The defensive line stays intact and will be led by Collins Ukwu at the defensive end position. The Wildcats frequently play a nickel package with five defensive backs, and replacing all five this season will test Kentucky’s depth and the recruiting ability of the coaching staff. By playing in that nickel package, the Wildcats’ biggest struggles came against the run as they gave up 4.5 yards per carry and 14 rushing touchdowns in 2011. They will look to have a more physical presence in 2012 and hope their new group of linebackers will be more effective this season. 2012 SCHEDULE Sep 2 @Louisville Sep 8 Kent St. Sep 15 W. NEWCOMERS QB Patrick Towles, 6-5, 232 - Kentucky was able to keep the dual-threat QB prospect in state. LB Khalid Henderson, 6-1, 205 - An athletic linebacker, Henderson could become a dynamic playmaker on defense. RB Justin Taylor, 5-10, 210 - Taylor has the size and speed to play immediately in the SEC.

MISSOURI Head Coach: Gary Pinkel

2011 Record: 8-5 (5-4) Columbia, MO.

Founded: 1839

OFFENSE: Missouri is moving to the SEC this season and the Tigers are looking to make a big impression in their inaugural season. The spread offense, led by electric QB James Franklin, is built for such a thing. Though never playing a snap in the SEC, Franklin becomes one of the conference’s top quarterbacks after throwing for 2,865 yards, rushing for 981 yards and totaling 36 touchdowns. TE Michael Egnew left for the NFL Draft last year, but Mizzou has plenty of pass catchers returning. WR T.J. Moe has led the team in receiving for the past years and will be aided by the addition of WR Dorial Green-Beckham, last year’s No.1 recruit. Green-Beckham is an excellent athlete capable of making a big impact for Missouri this year. In the backfield, senior Kendial Lawrence is expected to carry the load after missing most of last season. Overall, Mizzou has the look of a solid offense.

DEFENSE: The Tigers had the fourth-best defense in the Big 12 last season, but will need to improve on that in a conference full of suffocating units. DT Sheldon Richardson and DE Brad Madison will miss parts of the season’s first month as they recover from injuries, but they will turn the defensive line into a formidable one when they return. Until that time, Kony Ealy and Shane Ray will solidify the Mizzou defensive line. The strength of Missouri’s defense lies in its linebacker corps, which is boosted by Zaviar Gooden, Will Ebner and Andrew Wilson. Gooden led the team in interceptions with two last season, while Wilson led the team in tackles last year with 98. In the secondary, CB E.J. Gaines earned all-conference honors for his performance last year and set a school record for pass breakups with 16. While this unit may not stand out on paper, they have potential. 2012 SCHEDULE Sep 1 SE Louisiana Sep 8 Georgia Sep 15 Arizona St. Sep 22 @South Carolina Sep 29 @UCF Oct 6 Vanderbilt Oct 13 Alabama Oct 27 Kentucky Nov 3 @Florida Nov 10 @Tennessee Nov 17 Syracuse Nov 24 @Texas A&M

SOUTH CAROLINA Head Coach: Steve Spurrier 2011 Record: 11-2 (6-2)

Off Coord: Steve Spurrier

Columbia, S.C.

Founded: 1801

OFFENSE: The Gamecocks’ offense overcame big obstacles in 2011. Starting QB Stephen Garcia was off to a more than shaky start and eventually dismissed from the team. In the midst of the Garcia turmoil, Marcus Lattimore, arguably the most potent rusher in the country, suffered a torn ACL in the middle of the season. Conner Shaw gave the Gamecocks steady play at the quarterback position and was able to give the offense enough to remain effective. Shaw threw 14 touchdowns with only six interceptions, and completed 65.4 percent of his passes. With a healthy Lattimore in the backfield with Shaw, the productivity will increase and the playbook will open up. At receiver Alshon Jeffery is going to be a big loss to the team, and they will need playmaking ability from the new corps of receivers. Ace Sanders will likely be the No. 1 option at WR and will be joined by Bruce Ellington, D.L. Moore and tight end Justice Cunningham. DEFENSE:The defense a year ago kept the team afloat during the offensive struggles. Persistent pass coverage and athleticism in the run game was the bread and butter of Ellis Johnson’s nickel defense. Johnson accepted the Southern Miss head coaching job and last year’s secondary coach Lorenzo Ward will now take command of the defense. Jadeveon Clowney was AllConference a year ago and has the skillset and big-play ability to be the best end in the country in 2012. Clowney was named SEC freshman of the year by the coaches in 2011, and his pass rushing presence disrupts any defense. Opposite Clowney will be senior Devin Taylor who contributes to a dangerous defense. DeVonte Holloman and D.J. Swearinger are returning veterans at safety. Starting in the middle is Shaq Wilson, who brings leadership and fierceness to the defense. Sophomore Brison Williams will likely find a role in the secondary and make up what looks again to be an excellent unit. 2012 SCHEDULE Aug 30 @Vanderbilt Sep 8 East Carolina Sep 15 UAB Sep 22 Missouri Sep 29 @Kentucky Oct 6 Georgia Oct 13 @LSU Oct 20 @Florida Oct 27 Tennessee Nov 10 Arkansas Nov 17 Wofford Nov 24 @Clemson

TENNESSEE Head Coach: Derek Dooley

Off Coord: Jim Chaney

2011 Record: 5-7 (1-7)

Founded: 1794

Knoxville, Tenn.

OFFENSE: Since Derek Dooley took over his teams have struggled offensively in the tough SEC, but for the first time he will have an offense with depth and experience. It would be a challenge to find a team that has played more freshmen over the past two seasons than the Vols, but it looks like it might pay off this year. Tyler Bray showed solid quarterbacking skills in 2011 and posted 17 touchdowns compared to only six interceptions. More impressive is that the 6-foot-6 gunslinger did so in just seven games while dealing with a hand injury. He will have some new weapons on the exterior and his protection should be improved. Da’Rick Rogers and Justin Hunter return as two potential stars at receiver and will be joined by top junior college prospect Cordarrelle Patterson. Patterson is a 6-foot-3, 205-pound target who broke almost every possible receiving record at Hutchinson C.C., including 1,832 career yards and 24 touchdowns. DEFENSE: Former Alabama linebacker coach Sal Sunseri will take over the defensive duties in his first season as coordinator. The young defenses of the past two seasons went through a maturation phase that helped mold the players into a cohesive unit. The Vols will return nine of 11 starters on this side of the football. The depth of the unit is so strong that 13 of the 15 leading tacklers from last year are back. In the new 3-4 scheme, Maurice Couch will be the linchpin at nose tackle. The defensive line will love working with A.J. Johnson, Curt Maggitt, Herman Lathers and Jacques Smith, who assemble what is considered to be one of the best linebacking units in the country. The front seven is solid, and with All-SEC cornerback Prentiss Waggner and Brian Randolph patrolling from the safety position, Sunseri definitely has the pieces to put together one heck of an SEC defense. 2012 SCHEDULE Aug 31 N. VANDERBILT Head Coach: Tony Franklin 2011 Record: 6-7 (2-6)

Off Coord: John Donovan

Nashville, Tenn.

Founded: 1873

OFFENSE: Vanderbilt’s offense was exactly in the middle of the pack in 2011 ranking 61st in the nation in points scored averaging 26.7 per game. They had a good rushing attack that was led by Zac Stacy, who rushed for 1,193 yards last season and will be back for his senior season to lead the Commodores. Jordan Rodgers has the bloodlines to be a great QB, being the brother of NFL star Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers came on strong once he was given the reigns for the Vandy offense throwing for 1,524 yards, rushing for 387 yards and scoring 13 total touchdowns in just nine games as the starter. Both of Rodgers’ top receivers return in Jordan Matthews and Chris Boyd, so the Commodores should improve on their 97th-ranked passing attack in 2011. With all of their major weapons returning in 2012 they should return to their second consecutive bowl berth. And if Rodgers becomes a more consistent passer, they could achieve even more.

DEFENSE: The Commodores’ defense was very strong in 2011 allowing just 21.6 points per game, good enough to be 29th in the country. Unlike the offense, however, the defense is replacing a number of players including their top four tacklers from 2011. Safeties Kenny Ladler and Javon Marshall will be the defensive leaders for 2012 in the secondary. At corner, the Commodores will look to Trey Wilson to take the role of Casey Hayward from last year in the No. 1 spot. Barnes had seven interceptions to lead the team in 2011 and they will hope Wilson, who had three picks last season, can give them similar production. Chris Marve was the undisputed leader of the defense in 2011 from the middle linebacker spot tallying 93 tackles and his place will be taken by junior Chase Garnham who was featured at outside linebacker in 2011. Vanderbilt will look for others to step into a leadership role on the field to continue their ball-hawking ways. 2012 SCHEDULE Aug 30 South Carolina Sep 8 @Northwestern Sep 15 Presbyterian Sep 22 @Georgia Oct 6 @Missouri Oct 13 Florida Oct 20 Auburn Oct 27 Massachusetts Nov 3 @Kentucky Nov 10 @Mississippi Nov 17 Tennessee Nov 24 @Wake Forest

ALABAMA Head Coach: Nick Saban 2011 Record: 12-1 (7-1)

Off Coord: Doug Nussmeier Tuscaloosa, Ala.

Founded: 1831

OFFENSE: QB A.J. McCarron raised eyebrows in the BCS National Championship game by having some throwing success against what had been an impregnable LSU defense in 2011. The junior’s performance inflated the hopes of Alabama fans looking for a more dynamic passing attack. However, the Tide’s top four receivers are gone and several unproven wide receivers will have to step up. Kenny Bell is the top returning receiver with 255 yards and two scores last year. The running game, on the other hand, will be as solid and tough as ever. Several backs will step in to fill the role Trent Richardson held last season. At the front of that group is senior Eddie Lacy, who was second on the team with 674 yards and seven TDs. Jalston Fowler, who ran for 385 yards and four scores, is next in line. Barrett Jones and D.J. Fluker return to anchor a physical offensive line. Senior Michael Williams will start at tight end.

DEFENSE: Alabama football is known for a lot of things, and defense is one of them. Since Nick Saban arrived in 2007, the Tide’s reputation for hard-nosed, tough defense has only become more evident. In 2011, Bama ranked first in the nation in scoring defense, averaging a paltry 8.15 points per game, and total defense, allowing just 183.62 yards per contest. While the unit lost several key players including NFL draft picks like Donta Hightower, Courtney Upshaw, Mark Barron and Dre Kirkpatrick, fans can bet the Tide’s defense will once again rank near the top. Junior cornerback Dee Milliner returned to anchor a physical secondary while the linebackers will be headed by senior Nico Johnson. The defensive line is where it all starts for Kirby Smart’s troops, and senior Jessie Williams will be the key at nose tackle. Williams will be flanked by stout defensive ends Damian Square and Quinton Dial. 2012 SCHEDULE Sep 1 @Michigan Sep 8 W. Kentucky Sep 15 @Arkansas Sep 22 Fla. ARKANSAS Head Coach: John L. Smith

Off Coord: Paul Petrino

2011 Record: 11-2 (6-2)

Founded: 1871

Fayetteville, Ark

OFFENSE: The Razorbacks replace the offensive masteries of Bobby Petrino with his brother Paul, who is now the offensive coordinator under coach John L. Smith. Paul knows the system that has made the Razorbacks a top offense. The skill personnel of the offense is arguably the most talented in the SEC. Quarterback Tyler Wilson is back for his senior season after being named first-team All-SEC and throwing for an outstanding 3,638 yards with 24 touchdowns and only five interceptions. Running back Knile Davis was All SEC in 2010, but missed 2011 with a broken ankle. Davis is back and ready to have a monster 2012. The offensive line is filled with All-SEC talent and Wilson will have plenty of options to throw to. Cobi Hamilton is the go-to receiver. Julian Horton as well as a bevy of prospects, should make an immediate impact. Senior tight end Chris Gragg is a returning starter and a valuable target.

DEFENSE: A spring weightlifting injury to middle linebacker Alonzo Highsmith prompted fifth-year senior Tenarius Wright to make the move to linebacker from defensive end. Highsmith will be ready for the fall and Wright showed a knack for the position. The defense is deep across the board and the line is filled with capable starters. At end, Trey Flowers and Chris Smith are joined by Colton Miles-Nash and junior college-transfer Austin Flynn. Flynn immediately proved himself and will see action this season. Darius Winston and Tevin Mitchel are returning starters at cornerback and will lead the secondary. After losing both Tramain Thomas and Elton Ford at the safety position, senior Darius Winston and junior Jerry Mitchell will step in. There is no shortage of defensive talent in the SEC West, and the Razorbacks, who have been an offensive powerhouse, appear to have a stout defense in 2012. 2012 SCHEDULE Sep 1 Jacksonville State Sep 8 La.-Monroe Sep 15 Alabama Sep 22 Rutgers Sep 29 @Texas A&M Oct 6 @Auburn Oct 13 Kentucky Oct 27 Mississippi Nov 3 Tulsa Nov 10 @South Carolina Nov 17 @Mississippi St. Nov 23 LSU

AUBURN Head Coach: Gene Chizik

Off Coord: Scot Loeffler

2011 Record: 8-5 (4-4)

Founded: 1856

Auburn, Ala.

OFFENSE: The Auburn Tiger offense will take a new look this season as Gus Malzahn has left for a head coaching position. New offensive coordinator Scot Loeffler will have Clint Moseley and Kiehl Frazier to work with at the quarterback position. Frazier earned playing time last year as a freshman, but Moseley is listed as the starting quarterback. Michael Dyer’s departure has left senior Onterio McCalebb as the starter, but Corey Grant and Mike Blakely could push Tre Mason for reps off the bench. Jay Prosch is immediately eligible after transferring from Illinois and will back up tight end Philip Lutzenkirchen at H-Back. Lutzenkirchen, a senior, will split out wide more this season and could be open underneath as Emory Blake and Travante Stallworth stretch the outside. While much of the offensive line is young, three of the starters earned playing time last season, which will help the growth process this season. DEFENSE: New defensive coordinator Brian VanGorder will have plenty of scary beasts up front with Jeffrey Whitaker and Corey Lemonier starring after earning experience last season. All-SEC selection Lemonier registered the fourth-most sacks (9.5) in the SEC last season, and he will have Nosa Eguae starting opposite him at defensive end. Eguae missed spring drills, but he racked up six tackles for a loss in 2011. Whitaker and Kenneth Carter will be two of five players who racked up significant snaps in 2011. Daren Bates led the team with 104 tackles in 2011 and returns for his senior season. Jake Holland and Jonathan Evans will also see extended playing time after starting six and nine games, respectively, last year. In the secondary, T’Sharvan Bell will return from a knee injury that ended his 2011. Willie Martinez returns to the SEC as the Tigers’ new secondary coach after several years as UGA’s defensive coordinator and a stint at Oklahoma. 2012 SCHEDULE Sep 1 @Clemson Sep 8 @Mississippi St. Sep 15 La.-Monroe Sep 22 LSU Oct 6 Arkansas Oct 13 @Mississippi Oct 20 @Vanderbilt Oct 27 Texas A&M Nov 3 New Mexico St. Nov 10 Georgia Nov 17 Alabama A&M Nov 24 @Alabama

ODELL BECKHAM

LSU Head Coach: Les Miles

Off Coord: Greg Studrawa

2011 Record: 13-1 (8-0)

Founded: 1860

Baton Rouge, La.

OFFENSE: The LSU Tigers will have to reload on offense after a pair of quarterbacks departed following a loss in the BCS championship game one year ago. Les Miles will turn to UGA castoff Zach Mettenberger to take over. Mettenberger, who appeared in five games last season with 92 passing yards, has a rocket for an arm and should find plenty of receiving options, including Odell Beckham and Russell Shepard. Beckham hauled in 41 receptions last season for 475 yards, but that number figures to grow with Rueben Randle now in the NFL. Michael Ford and Spencer Ware are both back in the backfield with Alfred Blue and Kenny Hilliard, making the Tigers’ rushing attack one of the most dangerous in the country. Last season, LSU rushed for more than 2,800 yards en route to an SEC championship and a spot in the BCS title game. The offense line is also filled with plenty of beef including Alex Hurst and Chris Faulk.

DEFENSE: The Bayou Bengals suffered a harsh blow over the offseason when Tyrann Mathieu was kicked off the team, taking his big-play ability with him. Last season, Mathieu picked off two passes and recovered four fumbles and returned two for touchdowns. The secondary is in capable hands with Tharold Simon and Jalen Collins at the two starting cornerback spots. Each has incredible size that should help against the tall SEC receivers they will face each week. Barkevious Mingo is an animal from the defensive end spot, racking up eight sacks last season. He also recorded 15 tackles for loss in 2011. On the other side of the defensive line, Sam Montgomery returns after starting 11 games last year. Montgomery got to opposing quarterbacks nine times while making 13.5 tackles for loss. Kevin Minter is a stud at middle linebacker and will quarterback the defense in 2012. He recorded 61 tackles last season. 2012 SCHEDULE Sep 1 North Texas Sep 8 Washington Sep 15 Idaho Sep 22 @Auburn Sep 29 Towson Oct 6 @Florida Oct 13 South Carolina Oct 20 @Texas A&M Nov 3 Alabama Nov 10 Mississippi St. Nov 17 Mississippi Nov 23 @Arkansas

NEWCOMERS CB Jalen Mills, 6-0, 185 A Texas product who will be counted to fill in for Tyrann Mathieu. OT Vadal Alexander, 6-6, 350 - The freshman monster enrolled early seeking playing time this year. MISSISSIPPI Head Coach: Hugh Freeze Off Coord: Matt Luke, Don Werner Def Coord: Wesley McGriff, Dave Wommack 2011 Record: 2-10 (0-8)

Oxford, Miss.

Founded: 1848

OFFENSE: The Rebels only scored 16 points per game last year and head coach Hugh Freeze hopes that number improves dramatically in 2012. However, it will be tough to do that against an SEC schedule loaded with great defenses. QB Barry Brunetti is in the lead for the starting job, but Bo Wallace is right on his tail. Brunetti played in five games last year and went 19-for-35 with no touchdowns and no interceptions. Wallace is a transfer from East Mississippi Community College, where he led the team to a junior college national title. RB Jeff Scott is the Rebels’ best playmaker, rushing for 529 yards and six touchdowns as a sophomore. He will get more touches with the new offensive scheme. WR Donte Moncrief led Ole Miss in receptions (31), yards (454) and touchdowns (four) as a freshman. Those numbers should improve this year. The offensive line has little experience but C Evan Swindall will provide leadership.

DEFENSE: As much as the offense struggled, the defense struggled more, giving up 32 points per contest. Freeze hopes that LB Mike Marry can take more of a leadership role and help the Rebels’ younger players get SEC ready very quickly. Marry led the team in tackles last year and was an All-SEC candidate. He will be joined by a talented group of linebackers led by Aaron Garbutt and Denzel Nkemdiche. Safety Charles Sawyer led the team in interceptions with four and in pass breakups with nine. He was also second on the team in tackles with 70. CB Wesley Pendleton could be the team’s best defensive player by the end of the year. He was named Most Outstanding Defensive Player for his effort during spring practice. DT Byron Bennett anchors an inexperienced defensive line. He made eight starts and tallied 15 tackles. The Rebels are hoping DT Uriah Grant can bounce back from spring shoulder surgery. 2012 SCHEDULE Sep 1 Central Arkansas Sep 8 UTEP Sep 15 Texas Sep 22 @Tulane Sep 29 @Alabama Oct 6 Texas A&M Oct 13 Auburn Oct 27 @Arkansas Nov 3 @Georgia Nov 10 Vanderbilt Nov 17 @LSU Nov 24 Mississippi St.

MISSISSIPPI STATE Head Coach: Dan Mullen 2011 Record: 7-6 (2-6)

Off Coord: Les Koenning

Starkville, Miss.

Founded: 1878

OFFENSE: Under the guidance of head coach Dan Mullen, the Mississippi State Bulldogs have remained steady on offense. This year, they look to take a big jump with QB Tyler Russell who finally has the job to himself after splitting time with Chris Relf. Russell can make all the throws, but has only completed 55 percent of his passes the last two seasons. Another player that looks to have sole possession of a position is RB LaDarius Perkins. He will likely share time with Nick Griffin, but Perkins has the tools to be a premier back in the SEC. The wide receivers will be strong for the Bulldogs as Chad Bumphis, Brandon Heavens, Chris Smith and Arceto Clark are now seniors. Fans are looking for Bumphis to have a bounce back year after registering 25 receptions for 339 yards in 2011. Guard Gabe Jackson anchors an offensive line that has been moving a lot of pieces the last two years.

DEFENSE: The Bulldogs’ defense was the reason they won seven games in 2011 as they surrendered only 19 points per contest. Mississippi State would have loved to have DT Fletcher Cox stay for one more season, but they feel Josh Boyd can make a huge impact on the defensive line this season. Boyd along with DE Kaleb Eulls should do some damage against opposing offensive linemen. Boyd and Eulls will also look to free space for linebackers Cam Lawrence and Deontae Skinner. Lawrence led the team with 123 tackles last year and brings a ton of experience. Skinner could be the most talented player on the roster. He can play sideline to sideline and plays with a mean streak. The cornerback tandem of Jonathan Banks and Corey Broomfield could be the best in the SEC. Banks notched five picks last year while Broomfield did not have any picks, but no quarterback was throwing the ball his way. 2012 SCHEDULE Sep 1 Jackson State Sep 8 Auburn Sep 15 @Troy Sep 22 South Alabama Oct 6 @Kentucky Oct 13 Tennessee Oct 20 M. TEXAS A&M Head Coach: Gene Kevin Chizik Sumlin 2011 Record: 8-5 7-6 (4-4) (4-5)

Scot LoefflDef er Coord: Mark Def Coord: Brian VanGorder Off Coord: Off KliffCoord: Kingsbury Snyder, Marcel Yates

Auburn, Ala. Station, Texas Founded: 1856 College Founded: 1876

OFFENSE: New coach Kevin Sumlin fielded explosive offensives while at Houston and will look to bring the same to the Aggies as they join the SEC. A&M had an open quarterback competition going into spring practice after losing QB Ryan Tannehill to the NFL, and when the dust cleared, Jameill Showers was the victor. Showers has a big arm that should aide the Aggies’ passing attack. RB Christine Michael, coming off an ACL injury, is the focal point of the offense. If he stays healthy, the tailback will put up big numbers. At wide receiver, the team is led by senior Ryan Swope, who is close to breaking the team’s all-time reception record. Swope caught 89 passes last year for 1,207 yards and will be Showers’ favorite target. Uzoma Nwachukwu, who got 50 passes last season, will assume the starting spot opposite Swope. Though he will not have Case Keenum, Sumlin has weapons at his disposal.

DEFENSE: In a conference that features defense, Texas A&M is a perfect fit. The Aggies led all of the NCAA in sacks with 51 last season. LB Sean Porter and DE Damontre Moore, who totaled 9.5 and 8.5 sacks last season respectively, return and will look to build on those numbers. While A&M will field a four-man defensive front this season, the production of Moore will make the transition easier. Sean Porter is a star at outside linebacker for the Aggies but so is middle linebacker Jonathan Stewart, who led the team in tackles last season with 98. The Aggies’ secondary is rather young with FS Steven Terrell as the only upperclassmen starter. Deshazor Everett and Floyd Raven, two sophomores, add athleticism to the cornerback position that the Aggies did not have last season. Backup CB Dustin Harris returns punts for the team and led the nation in punt return average with 18.6 yards per return. 2012 SCHEDULE

RB Trey Williams, 5-8, 175. Williams will see the field early as a backup to starter Christine Michael. WR Thomas Johnson, 5-11, 180. An Under Armour All-American, Johnson provides speed to the Aggies’ receiving corps. C Mike Matthews, 6-3, 260. A highly-recruited center, Matthews is the Aggies’ center of the future.

Quarterbacks

FANTASY Running Backs

1. Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay: The Packers signal caller is simply amazing with his precision and is the best quarterback in the game right now. Greg Jennings is a great No. 1 receiver, Jordy Nelson would be a No. 1 in most other offenses, and tight end Jermichael Finley is a weapon.

1. Arian Foster, Houston: When he’s 100 percent, he’s an explosive rusher and pass-catcher. He missed three games to start last season, but still gained 1,224 yards on the ground and 617 through the air with 12 total TDs. He should be healthy and ready for a productive 16-game season.

2. Tom Brady, New England: He likely will never reproduce his NFL-record season of 50 touchdown passes, but Brady is still the master of the Patriots’ juggernaut system. He tossed 39 touchdowns last season and is showing no signs of slowing down physically at age 35.

2. Ray Rice, Baltimore: He gained over 2,000 total yards last season with 15 total touchdowns. The Ravens will continue to rely on Rice as their main offensive threat. He led his team in receptions and receiving yards last season. It’s a toss-up between him and Foster for top RB.

3. Drew Brees, New Orleans: Bountygate won’t affect the Saints’ potent offense, for which Drew Brees pretty much acts like an offensive coordinator on the field. Marques Colston hopes to be back and healthy, and the passing game will thrive despite the loss of Robert Meacham.

3. LeSean McCoy, Philadelphia: McCoy is another very versatile running back, being able to catch the ball as well as run and cut with his elusive style. The Eagles are looking to protect Michael Vick, and there’s no better way than to continue to go to the workhorse McCoy

4. Matthew Stafford, Detroit: He had the first full healthy season of his career last year and capitalized on it. When you have Calvin Johnson, a solid veteran like Nate Burleson and an emerging young receiver like Titus Young, the passing numbers will again be impressive.

4. Maurice Jones-Drew, Jacksonville: He was the league’s rushing leader in 2011 with 1,606 yards, but the Jags are hoping that Blaine Gabbert will develop a bit more of a passing attack so Jones-Drew has even more openings. He had 11 total touchdowns last season.

5. Cam Newton, Carolina: His rushing prowess alone makes him a top Fantasy weapon. He should be able to improve his decision-making and cut down on the turnovers while continuing to find his groove as an NFL quarterback. Newton will be a Fantasy force for years to come.

5. Chris Johnson, Tennessee: He started slow last season after holding out, and never showed any of the explosiveness that gave him the nickname “CJ2k” after his massive year in 2009 when he gained 2,509 yards from scrimmage. Still, we know what he’s capable of.

6. Tony Romo, Dallas: With a healthy Miles Austin and Dez Bryant, Romo is capable of big numbers. He had another 4,000-plus yards passing season in 2011 to go along with 31 touchdowns. He is playing fantastic football despite the disappointing Dallas win totals of the last few years.

6. DeMarco Murray, Dallas: The former Oklahoma standout showed what he could do after getting his first start in late October, rushing for a Dallas record 253 yards. It was the ninth-most rushing yards in NFL history. His college injury woes seem to be behind him.

7. Michael Vick, Philadelphia: Health and turnovers are key for Vick. If you picked him in the first round of your draft last season, or paid a high price for him in an auction, you were kicking yourself before too long. He has the receivers to succeed, but be wary of his durability issues.

7. Darren McFadden, Oakland: Is this finally the year that McFadden plays a full season? Things were going great until an ankle injury sidelined him for the rest of the season in the team’s seventh game. He has the potential to be at the top, but durability is always in question.

8. Eli Manning, N.Y. Giants: Manning loses a nice piece in receiver Mario Manningham, but he still has Hakeem Nicks and Victor Cruz out wide. The tight end position is dealing with injuries, but perhaps new acquisition Martellus Bennett will be able to pick up the slack.

8. Adrian Peterson, Minnesota: Reports have been mixed about Peterson’s recovery from an ACL and MCL tear, as the Vikings back was just activated from the PUP list on August 12. It’s a waiting game on whether or not the potentially explosive runner is all the way back.

9. Philip Rivers, San Diego: He passed for a ton of yards and touchdowns last season, but will want to cut down on his 20 interceptions and five fumbles. Rivers had a rough year at times in 2011, but is still one of the game’s best signal callers and should bounce back in a big way.

9. Marshawn Lynch, Seattle: “Beast Mode” is still waiting to hear whether he will miss any games due to another offseason arrest, but he still has a lot left in the tank. With another uncertain quarterback situation materializing in Seattle, he’ll have to carry the load.

10. Matt Ryan, Atlanta: There’s no question that “Matty Ice” has a good — if not extraordinarily deep — group of receivers with Roddy White and Julio Jones leading the way, but the fifth-year starter could show more explosive passing prowess this season.

10. Trent Richardson, Cleveland: There’s no mystery here; Richardson will be the focal point of the Browns offense in his rookie season. With Peyton Hillis gone, the former Alabama standout will be relied upon heavily. He’s a physical specimen with speed and power.

FANTASY 11. Matt Forte, Chicago: Hopefully, by the time the season comes around, Forte will be more focused on his on-field performance and not the lengthy contract dispute that marred the Bears’ offseason. Forte’s season ended in Week 13 with a sprained knee.

5. Greg Jennings, Green Bay: He missed the last three regular season games last season, so he didn’t get up over 1,000 yards receiving, but Jennings is still Aaron Rodgers’ favorite receiver when he’s in the game. He’s steadily produced the last five seasons.

12. Steven Jackson, St. Louis: Jackson is looking to show the league that a running back can continue to perform at an elite level even after taking a bunch of hits. He looks to continue his amazingly impressive streak of seven straight 1,000-plus yard seasons.

6. Hakeem Nicks, N.Y. Giants: The Giants are taking it easy with Nicks because of an offseason foot injury, but the big receiver seems like he’ll be ready for the opener. Nicks has been injury-prone, but if he can play a full 16-game slate with Eli Manning slinging it, look out.

13. Ryan Mathews, San Diego: He missed some time during his rookie year, but still went over 1,000 yards. This year, he could be poised for a true breakout season. Much will be expected of the one-time national high school rushing leader in his second campaign. 14. Michael Turner, Atlanta: Turner is entering his fifth year in a Falcons jersey, but continues to produce at a high level. His speed isn’t what it once was, but he should again be good for a 1,000-yard season unless the wheels totally come off. So far, so good. 15. Ahmad Bradshaw, N.Y. Giants: With the departure of Brandon Jacobs and the lack of a clear No. 2, Bradshaw should get a heavy workload if he can stay healthy. He has dealt with foot injuries over his career, but his owners won’t have to deal with TD-stealing Jacobs anymore.

Wide Receivers 1. Calvin Johnson, Detroit: “Megatron” is simply the best. He had his finest season to date in 2011 with 1,681 receiving yards and 16 touchdowns. There’s no telling what kinds of numbers he will continue to put up; he’s perhaps the most impressive physical specimen to ever play the position. 2. Larry Fitzgerald, Arizona: His success will largely be dependent on Arizona’s quarterback play. Kevin Kolb will be the starter, but will have to show more consistency. There’s no question that Fitzgerald is still one of the best, most physical NFL receivers. 3. Andre Johnson, Houston: Staying healthy will be the key for Johnson, and if Schaub is available for 16 games it’s even better. Johnson suffered through hamstring problems in 2011 and missed nine games, but is still explosive at full speed, even at age 31. 4. Julio Jones, Atlanta: The physical talent for which the Falcons gambled much of their 2011 draft had an up-and-down season as a rookie, but if training camp and the early preseason are any indication, he could become the No. 1 option for Matt Ryan and Atlanta.

7. Roddy White, Atlanta: He’s getting older (31 this November), but he is as reliable as they come. He still picked up nearly 1,300 receiving yards last season and has five straight 1,100-plus years. Julio Jones will continue to take away receptions this year. 8. Wes Welker, New England: The diminutive slot receiver was again at the top of the league last year with 1,569 yards and nine touchdowns, but how long can Welker keep going like this? The Patriots go to the tight ends more often, but Welker is still a stud. 9. A.J. Green, Cincinnati: He — and his quarterback Andy Dalton — needs to avoid a second-year let-down, but he could surpass his rookie numbers. Green was everything the Bengals thought he could be in his first NFL season with 1,067 yards and seven touchdowns. 10. Jordy Nelson, Green Bay: Fantasy owners know that Nelson is usually good for a huge play or two during a game. He may not be setting records for receptions (PPR owners take note), but he is as explosive and good after the catch as just about anyone. 11. Brandon Marshall, Chicago: His time in Miami didn’t last long, but Marshall will be reunited with his former Denver teammate, Jay Cutler. The Bears are in desperate need of a true No. 1 receiver emerging, and Marshall has all the physical gifts. He should shine in Chicago. 12. Demaryius Thomas, Denver: His route running and hands are improving, and his speed and size are nearly unmatched in the NFL. With the arrival of Peyton Manning in Denver, Thomas has the potential to become one of the most feared receivers in the league. 13. Percy Harvin, Minnesota: The play of Christian Ponder is big for Harvin, and Minnesota knows what Harvin can deliver from his usual position in the slot. Jerome Simpson’s arrival could affect his overall touches, but Harvin is a more proven commodity. 14. Victor Cruz, N.Y. Giants: Cruz came out of nowhere last season to lead the Giants in receiving with 1,536 yards, and should again be a Fantasy producer. Just how close he comes to duplicating this season — and whether it’s a fluke — remains to be seen.

FANTASY 15. Steve Smith, Carolina: After thoughts of retiring, Steve Smith once again became an elite receiver in 2011 with Cam Newton under center. Smith showed his explosive playmaking ability again and the 33-year-old should continue to be Newton’s favorite receiver.

Tight Ends

1. Jimmy Graham, New Orleans: The former University of Miami basketball standout hit the big-time in 2011, going for 1,310 receiving yards and 11 scores while becoming one of Drew Brees’ favorite targets. Graham is still learning the position and can only get better. 2. Rob Gronkowski, New England: Gronk had perhaps the best statistical season for tight end last year, setting the record with 17 receiving touchdowns. That will be hard to reproduce, and Aaron Hernandez will take away touches in his second NFL season. 3. Antonio Gates, San Diego: He’s been slowed down a bit by nagging injuries in recent years, but a healthy Antonio Gates is still one of the best, most athletic, and most reliable passcatching tight ends in the league. Look for him to return to the top statistically. 4. Aaron Hernandez, New England: Hernandez missed two whole games in 2011 and still set the Patriots franchise record for receptions by a tight end with 45. He will only continue to develop alongside Rob Gronkowski and will get his opportunities to shine. 5. Vernon Davis, San Francisco: The offense will be better in Year 2 of Jim Harbaugh’s system, and continuity has been rare on that side of the ball in San Fran. Davis played some of the best ball of his career last year and delivered 792 yards receiving and six scores. 6. Jermichael Finley, Green Bay: He snagged eight touchdown passes last year and some would still say he underachieved. He’s still one of the elite pass-catching tight ends in the game, but the Packers think he has even more potential than he’s showing right now.

Kickers 1. David Akers, Philadelphia: Akers broke the single-season record for points by a kicker, capitalizing largely on the Niners’ red zone woes. He’s up there in age but still effective. 2. Stephen Gostkowski, New England: Quick, name the most accurate kicker in Patriots history! No, it isn’t Adam Vinatieri, it’s Stephen Gostkowski, the starter since 2006. 3. Sebastian Janikowski, Oakland: Janikowski’s huge leg is known around the league. The Raiders’ offensive stalls gave him a ton of chances last year, as they should again. 4. Mason Crosby, Green Bay: Crosby had a great year, hitting 24-of-28 field goals and 68 extra points. You can count on him being near the top of the points producing kickers. 5. Alex Henery, Philadelphia: The Eagles released David Akers before last season, but still have a good one in Henery, who was 24-of-27 in his first year with the team.

Defense/Special Teams

1. San Francisco: The ‘Niners were the top-performing unit in 2011, and almost everyone is back. They had 50 sacks last season and the turnover numbers should be high once again. 2. Pittsburgh: This is still a nasty defensive unit despite releasing a few big-name veterans. James Harrison, Troy Polamalu and friends will provide the sacks and turnovers. 3. Green Bay: Yes, the defense gives up a lot of passing yards, but Charles Woodson (seven interceptions in 2011) can still take away the ball. Should be another high-scoring year. 4. Philadelphia: The defense improved against the run towards the latter part of the season. The Eagles have a great pass rush with Jason Babin (18 sacks) and Trent Cole (11 sacks). 5. Baltimore: Even with Terrell Suggs out for the year, the Ravens will be stout and will score turnovers. This is an allaround great defense yet again and could be worth a pick in later rounds.

7. Jason Witten, Dallas: Witten has been a security blanket for Tony Romo his entire career, catching more than 60 balls each year since his second season in 2004. He only scored five touchdowns last season, but should be a steady week-toweek producer. 8. Fred Davis, Washington: Davis will be one of the main options for the Redskins offense and looks as if he will become one of Robert Griffin’s favorite targets. Davis needs to stay clean off the field, however, as a suspension cost him the final four games of 2011.
