The McHenry County Conservation Foundation was awarded
a $25,000 grant for Glacial Park prairie restoration by the Fairways Foundation. The funds will be combined with a prior
$10,000 Enbridge Fueling Futures community investment grant
to assist with restoration efforts on 21 acres at Glacial Park, in Ringwood, by purchasing rich and diverse native seed mix to convert land from row crops
to high-quality prairie
grassland.
The project will restore habitat communities to support grassland bird species and threatened or endangered species, including the monarch butterfly and the rusty patched bumblebee. At 3,439 acres, Glacial Park is one of the largest contiguous areas of publicly managed land in McHenry County.
