International Flavors in The ATL Airport District

Hartsfi eld Jackson Atlanta International Airport is the busiest airport in the world. Thousands of air travelers go to, through or out of the airport on a daily basis and many travelers are looking for a meal that reminds them of home or curious to see what other cuisines are like. In either case, ATL Airport District restaurants are fi lling the bill in both instances, providing a variety to all, regardless of their taste.

Volare Bistro

Located at 603 North Central Ave. in Hapeville, Volare is known for its large wine collection and international delicacies such as roasted mixed olives, Portuguese style mussels, stuffed salmon and Tuscan Ribeye.

Mami’s La Cubana

Also on North Central Avenue, Mami’s La Cubana offers a wide variety of Cuban dishes: tostones, yuca fries, stuffed potatoes, yuca mojo, a Cuban sandwich, medianoche sandwich and daily lunch specials like ropa vieja, puerco con mojo and picadillo.

Noodle

Noodle Restaurant on Main Street in College Park is described as a elevated Pan Asian restaurantnot the typical noodle house. They serve an array of popular Asian cuisine that includes miso soup, chicken satay, spring rolls, lettuce wraps, Mongolian beef and more in a 1950’s themed decor which adds to the dining experience.

Paper Plane Restaurant

New to the area: Paper Plane Restaurant with an indoor event space-The Loft-and a new dining experience called Spoon Lunch inspired by family dishes from Bangkok, Thailand. Start with a base ingredient of either Curry, Stir Fry, Fried Rice or Noodles with basil, massaumn, garlic or traditional (all with lots of veggies), then add a protein such as chicken, fi sh, shrimp, etc.

La Fiesta Mexican Restaurant

On Virginia Avenue in College Park, La Fiesta Mexican Restaurant serves quality Mexican and Latin cuisine with chips and salsa made fresh daily. Try the chori-queso dip or better yet, order papas y chorizo with your meal. La Fiesta now offers Mexican Bowls, Street Tacos and all your favoritesfajitas, quesadillas, enchiladas, vegetarian dishes

and more. Lunch specials are from 11am-3pm Monday-Friday and you can also order ready to go party trays for your next event.

Johnny’s New York Style Pizza-Hapeville

Julie Wright, at Johnny’s New York Style PizzaHapeville, said being located near the airport, their clientele includes both visitors and locals. Two of the most popular pizzas are the quattro formaggio and the Italian special pizza. “With all the air travelers we welcome from the airport…interest in international cuisine is strong,” she said. The menu offers New York Italian style plus cauliflower and gluten-free pizzas, calzones, Italian dinners, oven baked subs and wraps, salads and even pizza by the slice.

Ninja Japan

Ninja Japan is a quick service Japanese restaurant at 4720 Jonesboro Road in Union City, serving teriyaki, hibachi and sushi at great prices. The restaurant is also proud of its quick service, which allows diners more time to savor the food: salads served with ginger or ranch dressing, different teriyakis and hibachis with white rice and a vegetable, sushi or noodle dishes.

Fish Bowl Pokè

Fish Bowl Pokè in Hapeville has a number of Hawaiian pokè-regular or large bowls with scoops of protein or a Veg-shi pokè bowl which has no protein, only vegetables. Pick your base, your protein or veggies, marinade, toppings and aioli for a tasty treat.

Bole Ethiopian Restaurant

With a variety of delectable, vegetarian or vegan friendly food, Bole Ethiopian restaurant on Virginia Avenue has always been a favorite for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Try crushed fava garnished with veggies and a hard-boiled egg, scrambled eggs with veggies & bread or chichebsa (hand-crafted keta with house berbere and clarified Ethiopian butter) for breakfast, Bole’s single order sampler with Bole tibs, Shiro dishes, Doro Wat or Bole Special Kitfo and more for lunch or dinner.

Dua Vietnamese in Hapeville offers different flavors of Pho, Mixao, Hu Tieu Xao, Bun Bo Hue and more Monday thru Friday for lunch or dinner-dine in, take out or delivery.

Tropical Cuisine

This Jamaican dining establishment on Old National Highway gives diners the “best of both worlds”-both healthy and satisfying. From appetizers to main courses and desserts, the taste of the tropics is in every bite. Menu items include fried plantains, vegetable Samosas, chicken, shrimp, beef, goat or various fish entrees, vegetarian dishes and dessert, including homemade cakes and Key Lime pie.

The Manchester Arms

Located on Virginia Avenue, this restaurant is billed as having “British pub fare with a local flare.” You might not see Prince Charles or the Queen Mum there, but it’s a popular gathering spot for the locals. Fried pickles, pretzels served with warm mustard and beer cheese dip, calamari, salmon croquettes, Bangers & Mash, Shepherd’s Pie, and Fish & Chips are just a few of the delicious menu items.

Armando’s Mexican Kitchen

According to Armando Jimenez (owner of Armando’s Mexican Kitchen in Fairburn), the popularity of this restaurant’s menu, which includes international cuisine items, is growing in popularity. “One of the reasons its popularity is growing is because there are more natural ingredients in the international cuisine items,” Jimenez said. Burritos, quesadillas, chimichangas, tacos and lunch platters are all on the menu at Armando’s Mexican Kitchen. These are just a few of the many choices available right here. So if you are looking for international flavors, you can find a multitude of tastes in the ATL Airport District.
