President’s Report
Dear Goshen College community and friends,
As we come to the close of a year fully disrupted and shaped by the pandemic, I am continually amazed by your generosity and the resilience of our community through this difficult time. We saw increased giving during the 2020-21 fiscal year, with the largest

overall fundraising year since 2007 and the greatest year ever of giving to the GC Fund!
Everything about this year reaffirms to me that this is a spirited community with a compelling mission. I am grateful to our Board of Directors for extending an invitation for a second presidential term to be during this year. I wholeheartedly accepted!
Here are a few additional highlights I want to share with you from the 2020-21 academic year on campus:
• As we managed the pandemic on campus with masks, social distancing, weekly testing, vaccination clinics and increased communication, we also experimented with new forms for our Study-Service Term and increased livestreaming of events through virtual performances and lectures. Historic numbers of people from around the world participated in our virtual Homecoming events and A Festival of Carols. And fortunately, we were able to have 98% of our students learning in-person for at least part of the year. • We recognized six outstanding alumni with alumni awards during Homecoming Weekend: Franklin Baer ’72 from Harrisonburg, Virginia; Shashi Buluswar ’90 from Oakland, California; Rebecca ’08 and Paul ’08 Shetler
Fast from Goshen; Krysten Parson ’02 from Goshen; and Todd Woodworth ’78 from Goshen. • We received more than $4 million in grants from Lilly Endowment, Inc., and an additional $500,000 from the Community Foundation of Elkhart County to support the creation of our Center for Community Engagement, newly housed in the Newcomer Center. • We launched two new career-building programs for working adult students, in communication and sign language interpreting. • The first phase of a new entrance project to the was completed at College Avenue and 10th Street. • The Fisher Terrace was created as an outdoor dining and gathering space just outside of the Leaf Raker Cafe in honor of John and Pauline Fisher. • We bid farewell to the High Park building across Main Street, as it was demolished by the hospital. • Our student-run radio station, 91.1FM The Globe, WGCS, was named “Indiana Radio School of the Year” for the third consecutive time by the Indiana Association of School Broadcasters, and our student-run newspaper, “The Record,” earned Indiana collegiate “Newspaper of the Year” for the fourth year in a row. • Our men’s cross country, men’s and women’s indoor track and field, and men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams, all made it to nationals. • We launched a refreshed look for our brand, around the theme “Where Everything Connects.”
On behalf of all of us at Goshen College, I thank each of you for your generous giving and vital contributions. Through you, we continue to plant seeds of life, leadership and service.
In joyful service,
Dr. Rebecca J. Stoltzfus ’83 President of Goshen College
