Featured Article - Vicki Yohe Urban Gospel Music Sensation
Gospel 4 U was given the privilege of holding an exclusive interview with the world renown, Gospel recording Artist and Minister of the Gospel Vicki Yohe. In this interview you will get up close and personal with Vicki. Be Blessed and Enjoy!
G4U: How long have you been in music ministry? VY: God has allowed me to be engaged in full time music ministry for 25 years. G4U: What is your first song ever written or sung? VY: At the age of 5, I wrote my first song entitled, “I Don’t Want No Mini Skirt.” I grew up in a legalistic environment where outward holiness was a big focus. I used to request to sing for other people’s names on notes. I also used to get requests for me to sing. G4U: When did you know you could sing? VY: At the age of 5, my dad would put me on a stool to sing every Sunday.
G4U: Your song “You Amaze Me” has touched the lives of millions of souls. I have listened to it on numerous occasions and there is such an anointing in that song. Tell us, Vicki, how you came about writing this song?
!
VY: One day while at my piano in my home, God showed up. I was in awe and honored that He showed up in my living room. The words began to flow out of me. I wrote the song in 5 minutes. I challenge everyone to create an atmosphere in your home for God to show up. You don’t have to wait until Sunday morning to experience His presence. God should always be welcomed in your home. You can’t have chaos in the home and expect Him to show up. Be mindful of the music you play and what you watch on the television. Create an atmosphere for Him. G4U: Was it hard maintaining a consistent Christian walk at that age or even once you were an adult and no longer under the same roof as your family? VY: Absolutely not! I had a godly fear. My parents instilled in me the importance of having a personal relationship with God. They were the best examples of a godly living. They lived what they preached. So many times children grow up in the church, but stray away from the church when they become adults because of the negative things they heard their parents say about the church. My parents never talked negative about the church.

Vicki Yohe Urban Gospel Music Sensation G4U: Describe your personal vision for your ministry when you started. Has it changed since? I believe I’ve remained consistent. I am a worshiper. Week after week, my objective is to lift the name of Jesus and lead people into His presence. I see that you are touching lives not only by your music, but also by your ministry for children and orphanage. Talk to us about that. New Destiny for Children, now located in Kampala, Uganda, is a home for parentless children affected by the HIV/ AIDS epidemic. For many years, I grieved because I could not have children. One day the Lord spoke to me saying, “Take your eyes off of yourself.” After visiting Jinja in Uganda, God moved in my heart and we opened New Destiny for Children in 2005. Our mission is to empower 1000 children with education and love. In October of 2005, New Destiny for Children Foundation was birthed. It is a God-ordained home located in Jinja, Uganda; one of the poorest nations in the world. This home provides a Christ-centered environment to care for children who have been orphaned or abandoned by their parents who suffered with the AIDS virus. Millions of children in Africa have been affected by this epidemic. And we want to make a significant impact in the lives of these children by changing their hopeless demeanors while feeding and empowering their hungry souls. Most children have no idea of what it feels like to sleep on a mattress, eat more than one meal a day, have enough clothes to wear, or take daily baths with clean water. We want to raise children up in an excellent environment. The vision for this mission is to provide for children to live in a beautiful home, eat off of linen table clothes, and wipe their faces with linen napkins. We provide children with new clothes so they would know the feeling of ripping tags off of a new shirt or a new pair of pants. The caretakers serve several meals a day for each child. Our children attend good schools. The average household in Uganda would not be able to afford the level of education we provide. Excellence through education is a powerful tool in transforming lives. God reminded me that the children of Africa were being fed, but they needed to be empowered; this is our purpose.
!
As we bring children into our family, we remind them of our promise to them: You now live in a Christ-centered home. You are safe here, and you are loved. You will never go hungry. You will never know lack. You will have the best education and spiritual guidance. You will walk in truth and flourish in life. You will impact your community and your nation. You are tomorrow’s leaders! Here, you will find a New Destiny! This decree is posted on the home. What season is God having you in right now with regards to your ministry? I want to continue leading people into the presence of God and to share the importance of worship. Right now, Health & Wellness is also a priority and I coach hundreds of people weekly. I struggled with my weight for a long time. I was overweight and not physically fit. Obesity runs in my family. Due to obesity, my brother passed away at the age of 48. After years of dieting and other weight loss trials, God began to deal with me regarding my weight. I knew there were prayers that He did not answer because His temple was not healthy. I was tired of trying diet after diet with no avail. So I declared that “I shall live and not die.” I then established disciplines in my life. Now I feel amazing, and I want to help others live the same way. With the wonderful family that you have, how do you balance between ministry and home? Because I travel so much, I try to spend as much time as I can with my boys: Walker who is 10, and Adley who is 7. I pick them up from school, attend school events, help with homework, etc. Movie dates with my boys are my priority. They are growing so fast and I want to enjoy this time as much as I can.

Vicki Yohe Urban Gospel Music Sensation G4U: How does it feel to know that your music touches so many, especially when someone reaches out to you and expresses how you have affected their lives? Can you describe your experience that illustrates the mission and values of what you do, and why you do it? VY: It’s humbling. It blows my mind when others share their testimonies of how my music brought them comfort during a challenging time. I receive testimonies from so many people daily who were blessed by my music.
G4U: What is the importance of moving in God’s timing?
VY: The process or journey of getting to each venue and the demands of travel can be challenging. But I love what I get to do. Once I get to the platform, all is well. That makes the stress of changing planes and rushing through security worth it.
G4U: How do you stay in tune with today’s youth in order to continue to reach new generations or as they say “if it ain't broke, don’t fix it”? VY: One of the biggest challenges for the church today is being current and relevant while remaining holy and faithful. I know my mission and I must stay true and do what God has called me to do.
VY: When you’re in a relationship with God, you’ll know when and where to move because you’ll recognize His voice. God can’t only be that “911 call” in your life—relationship is a key.
G4U: How do you stay so optimistic and faithful when there is so much going on in the world? VY: I am an optimist. I try to see the good in everything. While there have been situations that test my stance, I know God is faithful.
G4U: What do you consider your greatest accomplishment? VY: Adopting my two boys and opening New Destiny for Children. I adopted my oldest son, Walker, a couple of weeks after I opened New Destiny for Children.
G4U: Can you tell us about a time in your life where you really needed to be uplifted by others? VY: During the death of my parents and my brother. I have a host of people who mention my name in prayer every day. I am so grateful, because I feel their prayers.
G4U: What makes you a connected woman (relatable to other women)? VY: I am a real person who has “real” issues just like every other woman. I don’t mind being transparent. I let people know that while I get my hair and nails done like you, I work hard to balance the “mom life.” I’ve had weight issues, relationship issues, etc. I have moments of uncertainty, too!
G4U: What is the legacy that you want to leave? G4U: Is there a song, yours or someone else’s, that you never get tired of singing no matter how many times
VY: That I was “real” and transparent. That I loved God and had a heart for His people. That I helped the less fortunate.
you hear or perform it? VY: “Because of Who You Are” and “I’m at Peace.” Both songs are personal lyrics. These songs really minister to me.
G4U: Have you ever wanted to quit or had something negative happen to you in our ministry that made you want to take a step back from it?

His Presence
“Even when situations arise, we have to remember what the Scripture says, “And he said, ‘My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest’” (Exod. 33:14, NIV).”
Pastor Joanna Birchett What does it mean to live in God’s presence? In spiritual sense, unless we first make up our mind to take time out to think of God, then nobody is able to make up our mind for us. Our life is supposed to be so full of God’s presence because we are called to be walking by faith and not sight. Even when situations arise, we have to remember what the Scripture says, “And he said, ‘My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest’” (Exod. 33:14, NIV). Moses had faith in God and he knew that no matter what the Lord said he could TRUST HIM that His presence was with him. We are kingdom citizens and we were created to bask in the presence of God. We lose His manifest presence when we become disobedient and want to do things our way. Speaking of God’s presence should inevitably activate something in you, because the Scripture tells us, “Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.” (Ps. 16:11, KJV) I know that there are days when we might say “Lord, can I just feel your presence?” I can attest to that because I have been there before. When we look at Adam and Eve, we see that they had intimate fellowship in the

presence of God before the fall. Since the fall, sin has prevented our ability to be in the physical presence of God. It has separated us from the fullness of God’s presence. Now only the holy, sinless angels and the saints are in the physical presence of God. As Christians we enjoy the presence of God within us by the virtue of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit (John 14:23; 15:4; 1 Cor. 3:16; 6:19). This indwelling presence comes only through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. I am here to encourage you and let you know that when you get in His presence all the cares of this life seems like nothing. You will begin to experience true joy. Joy that the world, money, or sex cannot bring to you. David speaks of the kind of joy that only the righteous can know (Ps. 16:11). It is a joy that is but a foretaste of a far greater and
everlasting joy when we see the Lord’s face in the glory to come. As you are reading this today, please understand that when you believe right, you will see right. You will know the difference of having joy in God’s presence compared to the happiness that the world might give. This is written with you in mind. Yes YOU! God has a purpose and a plan just for you. All you need to do is to stay in His presence. Right where you are, just open your heart and release from your vocals “GOD I NEED YOUR PRESENCE.” Be blessed!

WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT
That is because your LIFE has Purpose! Minister Melissa Carter
The Universe supplies exactly and absolutely what you perceive your reality to be. State the most powerful words in existence: "I AM", add what you perceive yourself to be and KNOW that it already IS. Simply know that it already IS and give thanks. The immediacy of the intended manifestation is in direct proportion to the FEELING with which you charge your thoughts and words. As you still believe in time, it may take a little time to translate into the physical, but it MUST manifest. Prophetess Cynthia B. Jackson
THE EXPERIMENTAL PIG TURNED GOLD By Apostle Benson Musyimi
Memory Verse: “So then neither is he that planteth any thing, better. He and his family no longer complain of sicknesses. neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase.” (1 Cor. 3:7) Bible Reading: 2 Sam. 6:11–12 11 And
the ark of the LORD continued in the house of Obededom the Gittite three months: and the LORD blessed Obededom, and all his household. 12 And it was told king David, saying, The LORD hath blessed the house of Obededom, and all that pertaineth unto him, because of the ark of God. So David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obededom into the city of David with gladness.
I
n 2 Sam. 6:9–11, David was afraid because of God’s immediate judgment on Uzzah, who put forth his hand and took hold of the Ark of the Covenant when the oxen shook it. So David decided to use somebody else as an experiment. “Who knows this Obededom? If he dies, not many people will miss him,” David might have reasoned. So he asked Obededom to let the Ark of God rest in his house for a while. “It is my greatest honor, sir,” Obededom may have replied. Now David, the king, might have sent people to keep an eye on Obededom. “Is he dead? Are any members of his family sick?” David might have anxiously asked. “No my lord, Obededom and all the members of his household are doing just fine,” some of his spies may have replied. After they observed him for the first, second, or even third week, they may have brought a word back to the king, “My lord, it seems that some strange things are happening with this man that we cannot figure it out yet. Let us watch him further.” Suddenly, they observed that Obededom, who was a no body, gradually became so highly favored and popular. He is greatly blessed and immensely happy. His health was never

The debts the man had been unable to pay were suddenly written off. His children, who could not go toschool for lack of tuition payment, have now fully paid for all their years in school. His business has taken a new turn as all the customers have left his competitors to patronize only him. Even his competitors are now coming to find out how he is doing this all. Every member of his family is so blessed that they are sharing testimonies every day. Not so long after, people began to think that someone as blessed as Obededom should indeed be the king. At this point, King David might have told his aides, “Our experimental pig is almost making me totally irrelevant. Please, go and bring me the Ark.” Are you an “experimental pig”? Has your pastor sent you to a dangerous zone he knows he cannot go? Are you left alone in God’s hands over your present task? Are they expecting you to resign, be frustrated, or even die on the job? Fear not! As long as you have God’s presence with you, very soon you and where you are will become the center of attraction. You will be abundantly blessed in God’s presence. The Lord will not leave you alone. He will work with you and turn your every effort into gold for His glory!

My Mountain Top Experience By Evangelist Jennifer Marlowe

This I would like to share about the experience I had during illumination and consecration brought me into a place my 21 days of fasting for this year of 2015. As a where a total devotion was given to God. church, we’ve been doing this for quite some time now. In my years of serving out of ritual, I have to Through this experience, a power was ignited within acknowledge that I did feel, see, and experience many me, and the Bible verses in John 14:12–14 came changes. However, I never had the mountain top alive, “Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me experience until this year during the 21 days of fasting. will do the works I have been doing, and they will do It was through this time of fasting that I had an even greater things than these, because I am going to encounter with my Savior. This is where God revealed the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in My name, His presence to me and a deeper relationship was so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.”
Yes, God has given me the power and the authority to do His will and proclaim His name! And guess what?! He has chosen me for this season. Oh, what a privilege! I remember during my mountain experience, a word from the Lord whispered to me that the office He has called me into comes with miracles, signs, and wonders. Those same gifts were lacking in the church. There are titles but without power. People are losing their faith because of the lack of proof of who God is. But based on God’s word, I believe He wants to free His people from slavery. He wants the church to discover, once again, who He is and to proclaim His name. My insecurities and even the spirit of procrastination have been my stronghold and have become the non-void in my current life. Yet, because the Lord is so great, whenever one is in His presence there is a change. I have faith that my new journey has now begun. I can imagine Moses in Exodus 3 and Elijah in 1 Kings 19 experiencing the epiphany of who God is and how His divine purposes were revealed. They were shown to be earth shakers, and commissioned to demand, command, decree, declare, and proclaim who the true and living God is. Their faith may have been no more than the size of a mustard seed, but God is so great that their faith—or lack thereof— didn’t matter. HE IS GOD! He is real! He has and will still use US for His glory. Yes, the revelation of who God is will blow your mind. But at the same time, it has given me (you?) the added power, confidence, and boldness to become a public disciple of Christ. And it will be through this that the world will fall in love with Him. Even more so, the church will fall in love with Him again!
In God’s Timing
Keshroy Spencer
By Dennean Hadfield
Keshroy Spencer is a man whose steps are ordained by the Lord. His thirst for discovering his purpose has been a journey marked with struggles and triumphs. Like many children, Keshroy had many dreams about what he might be when he is grown including an astronaut, firefighter, and even a computer engineer. He was unaware that God was preparing him for the TV industry. Keshroy’s road to destiny began at the Community College of Philadelphia where he studied for a career as a computer engineer. He planned to finish his degree at Widener University but was unable to pay the high tuition fees. Keshroy did not allow what seemed to be a setback to stop him from pursuing his goal. “I asked myself what I liked to do,” said Keshroy. He poured himself into ministry as an audio engineer and assistant producer in church events. In an effort to further his education, Keshroy applied to Temple University and became interested in media studies and production. Temple is where he found his passion to learn more about the TV business. While on the path of pursuing his dreams at Temple University, things did not come easy for Keshroy. Being unemployed and having to
walk for twenty blocks to school, along with turning down meals at home due to coming from a large family, were constant struggles. Keshroy had hardships at home where his dad was working two jobs and pursing a master’s degree. This was discouraging for Keshroy to graduate from Temple. However, his dad was always there to remind him to never give up. His dad would say, “It’s always easier to give up. That’s the reason why we go through the storm.” As an intern at channel 6 news, Keshroy learned more about TV production behind the scenes. His ability to create relationships allowed him to become a full time employee in a department that didn’t exist until after graduating from Temple in
2014. Keshroy’s advice to anyone who is struggling to accomplish his or her dreams is to “seek ye first the kingdom of God.” God is all seeing and knowing. He can be literally on time for everything. Keshroy no longer has to walk for twenty blocks. On the day of graduation, he was blessed with a car in perfect condition. Keshroy is a living proof that God will guide our footsteps and He is in control of our future. Becoming a CEO of a media company to educate the masses is Keshroy Spencer’s goal that will come into fruition.

“In living this life, I have discovered that there are two sides to the coin of time: waiting in expectation and actively involved in participation. “
By Lori Mitchell It has been reported that a person can spend at least 88% of their adult time waiting for something to happen. This can be a disadvantage for a person that accepts, understands, and desires to live a life of purpose. Time is one of the things that we are required to manage, so it must be done wisely. Since the beginning, the Bible describes time by the separation of day and night, by seasons, and by purpose (see Gen. 1:14–18; Eccles. 3:1–8). In living this life, I have discovered that there are two sides to the coin of time: waiting in expectation and actively involved in participation. “Waiting in expectation” means that a person is waiting on a purpose to happen— someday, sometime, someway, somewhere, or somehow. “Actively involved in participation” means that a person is participating in their purpose—today, this day, at the present, at the moment, right here, and right NOW!!!
Lori Mitchell
Through frustrations and conversations with God, I found that the Bible clearly speaks on the topic saying, “1 As God’s co-workers we urge you not to receive God’s grace in vain. 2 For he says, ‘In the time of my favor I heard you, and in the day of salvation I helped you.’ I tell you, now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation. 3 We put no stumbling block in anyone’s path, so that our ministry will not be
