hen she’s not on the red carpet, Orlando-based beauty entrepreneur and talk show host Denise Mose is helping others look and smell amazing with her Simply D perfume and Beauty by DYM Products. Between her days as a grade school teacher in Clermont, Florida and her current success as a beauty industry entrepreneur with her own scent (Simply D Perfume) and extensive bath and body line (DYM Products), Denise Mose has led a whirlwind existence. From red carpet interviews at the Grammy’s, The Kentucky Derby, and the MTV Movie Awards (a role that had the Orlando Sentinel recently wondering if she was “The Next Oprah”); launching and co-hosting the popular web based talk show “Urban America Today”; authoring two popular books and penning articles for Orlando Woman, Tampa Tribune and The Orlando Times; and being not only a featured writer in ONYX Magazine but its March 2011 cover girl as the “young entrepreneur.” She was also named 2008 Entrepreneur of the Year by the Orlando Chamber of Commerce. While the Alabama native—who currently lives in Orlando--has positioned herself as a leader in numerous media platforms, she set many of these dynamic activities in motion via opportunities that arose along the road to discovering her incredible acumen as a businesswoman over the past four years. Dr. Mose created Simply D Perfume and Beauty by DYM Skin Care Line with the intention of making the best products and bringing joy to those who use them. All of her beauty products—shea butter, body mist, bath bar, hand cream, body lotion —are earth-friendly, handmade, completely paraden-free and cruelty-free. Mose’s products are currently in seven states, many prominent U.S. cities, London and Paris. While they are mostly available at smaller boutiques, DYM has also broken the huge retail barrier of Macy’s with placements in their Dallas and Birmingham stores. Mose debuted her new fragrance, Daniel for Men, with an all-star bash April 3rd at the Doubletree Resort and Hotel, featuring male models from Abercrombie & Fitch. Denise is a Certified Fashion Expert with the Association of Image Consultants International, specializing in wardrobe and corporate image. In addition to having a new beauty book coming out in June, Mose is a co-author in the upcoming entrepreneur anthology WIN! I have had the distinct honor of attending a number of Joe's presentations to young people throughout Jacksonville. During his historical and motivational speeches, Joe shares with the young people the motto of the 10th Calvary “Ready and Recently, one of my employees was having a difficult Forward.” Then, he always turns his attention to the 9th day and asked if she could talk to me in my office. In my office there is a young man who struggles to stay on task. Rather than staying at his desk as he has been asked, he is often up, moving around, and easily distracted. When called to the carpet for his behavior, he says he can't just sit in one spot and make the calls he has been asked to make. “I have to move around.” My response went straight to the core. Is it really that you can't do it? Or is it possible that, when you have been faced with the hard choice of going against the urge to get up and move around, you haven't given a committed and disciplined effort to stay seated? At that moment the light bulb came on (for both of us). Even I had to stop and take a look at the areas of my life where I had been so committed to the “cant's” that I couldn't see the “cans.” In that moment, I was reminded that this is a battle for better. No one ever said it would be easy. Too often we make our setbacks our stopping points and allow them to mark the place of retreat. I will say again something I shared during a recent interview...”Success is not a possibility until going back is not an option.” That means going back to old habits, old mindsets, old behaviors, old relationships, etc... With that, I call on the voice of Joe “Hotwing” Tillmon to raise the battle cry... “READY AND...” “WE CAN...”

which faced Mary, the mother of Jesus, when she had no choice but to accept God’s ideal situation which seemed like a total violation. Imagine if you will, the mixed emotions that young girl must have experienced as she listened intently to the words of the angel, telling her that her life would never be the same again. Can you feel her trepidation as the reality of the prophecy dawned upon her? I wonder how it must have felt to suddenly realize that things were no longer going to be executed as planned! To make matters worse, how would she have explained this God given word to Joseph? How was she supposed to respond with wholehearted exultation (even though she had boldly made her declaration)?
The Prophet Hosea also comes to mind as one who has accepted God’s stipulation, even though it appeared to be a complete violation of everything that he stood for. What was it like for a man of his reputation to be required by God to love, marry, cherish and care for a prostitute? Initially, he must have had moments of uncertainty when He wondered “did I misunderstand God’s instructions?” Frankly, most of us would have rationalized ourselves out of what seemed to be a missed word. In fact, I am sure that if given the same conditions, many of 10
www .G ospel NOW. net
subject ourselves to such abuse and utter disrespect for the sake of obedience to God.
Father Abraham is another example of a man who had every reason to regard God’s ideal situation and stipulation as utter violation; yet he complied, not knowing how things would really work out. What were his thoughts as he made the walk with his son, knowing what the intentions were? How many times did he question whether or not the sacrificing of his son was truly God’s request, or if it was a sign of stress? One does not need to rely solely on biblical accounts to be reminded of this familiar place, as we too are often faced with situations that appear to be completely against God’s perfect plan for our lives. As we closely guard our aspirations and ambitions, carefully devising well thought out plans for pursuits; life has a way of bringing things to a sudden halt. Consequently, we are forced to forage through contingency plans and alternative arrangements; while we figure out the ‘who’, ‘what’, ‘why’, ‘where’ and ‘how’ of it all. It is in these moments of disarray and disillusion that we sometimes make the stark revelation that God is behind it all; attempting to change the course and rearranging the order of our lives.
Many times the very situations that seem to violate us and hijack our clearly orchestrated plans, are the means used by God to redirect our lives into His perfect will. In the moment, as we experience the unraveling of our dream and observe the redirection of well-laid plans, the feelings are never usually ones of exuberance or excitement; but rather, like Mary we ask “how can these things be,” hoping that some semblance of reason and rationale will miraculously bestow a well timed response. Yet as we walk through the unplanned changes and survey the new landscape of what used to be our plans, hopes, wishes, and our ways; we realize that amidst the ashes is the substance of what remains; coupled with the potent possibility of what could be. For lying in the heap of bankruptcy is the remnant of second chances, smart stewardship and a renewed commitment to saving and investing. In the residue of a divorce, lies the possibility of a real love that would have never been realized had the debacle not taken place. Some have found that in the depths of despair from the loss of a loved one, comes the deep connection with the ones who remain. Others have found that the separation caused by imprisonment or the anxiety associated with the severing of a relationship, has the potential
to bring about tender feelings of acceptance and appreciation for people we would normally pass by without any acknowledgement. Like the prophet Hosea’s experience with his prostitute wife, we are sometimes faced with (and forced to) love and unconditionally accept, regardless of the expectations we have of others. Like Abraham, we find ourselves dealing with harsh decisions that seem to go against the very fiber of our being; yet the love we have for God and a desire to be obedient forces us to ‘violate’ what we would normally do for the sake of adhering to HIS plan and HIS purpose. The only way to allow ourselves to be excited about His concept of an ‘ideal situation,’ or exalt Him when His ways seem to defy and deny ours, is to surrender to the fact that He truly has our best interest at heart, and that no other could give us a more authentic life experience worth living! Like Mary, Hosea and Abraham, we must allow ourselves to give in to the “YES” by releasing our plans, and receiving His perfect will for our lives. Only then, will we understand and bask in the splendor of His ideal vs. what we consider to be our best deal, and in so doing, we will embrace his stipulation instead of seeing it as a violation.

The
First Lady
In All of Our Lives
M
other’s Day in America has been recognized on local levels as far back as the 1860’s, with Ann Jarvis’ establishment of a "Mother's Friendship Day," purposed "to reunite families that had been divided during the Civil War." Julia Ward Howe, author of the “The Battle Hymn of the Republic” led a "Mother's Day" anti-war observance, accompanied by a Mother’s Day Proclamation in the 1870’s; but it wasn’t until Anna Marie Jarvis, daughter of Ann Jarvis, picked up where her mother left off, successfully campaigning for the formal establishment of the official holiday by Congress in 1914. Mother’s Day, from that point forward, would always be celebrated in America on the second Sunday of May. More than Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day has become the most popular day of the year to dine out; while telephone lines experience their highest volume. It is a day where sons and daughters take advantage of the opportunity to express their love and appreciation for every sacrifice and selfless act that characterizes the heart of the special woman, known to many as “Mother.” It is a time where husbands and fathers celebrate the contributions of these caring women, whose hands have rocked cradles and whose hearts have held the family in a premier place of priority and esteem. Though it is the one day that Congress has designated for this special celebration, it should never be the only day when love and respect are expressed for “The First Lady” in all of our lives.

11 Get Fit Tips For
S
1.
ummer comes once a year and this is usually the time that we start thinking about our bodies and bathing suits. Of course, if you are just starting to think about getting your body ready and summer is only a few weeks away, it's a little late; but don't worry, there are things you can do to tone up for the summer. If you are like most of us, you want to shed a few pounds, eliminate some cellulite, and feel good in your bathing suit. Here are some simple tips to help you get ready for summer.
Hit the stairs. Instead of taking the elevator, you can burn calories by taking the stairs up and down whenever you have the chance. You will burn a lot of calories just by bypassing the elevator. Give it a shot.
2.
Pack your lunch. Instead of going out to lunch, pack a lunch and you will have more control over how many calories you consume. Try to eat a well-balanced lunch with plenty of fruits and vegetables.
3.
Eat at least five meals a day. That's right, five meals a day, but not five huge meals a day. Try to eat five small balanced meals a day. Digestion burns calories, and you are less inclined to overeat if you are not starving when it's time to eat. Pack some snacks to eat between meals.
4.
Don't park too close to the store’s entrance. Most people drive around and around to get a close parking spot when going to work or shopping. Get in the habit of parking far away and walking. The fact is, you can't get lean by being lazy; sorry, but that is the truth. In addition, you will save a few dings on your vehicle.
5.
Walk faster. You can dramatically increase how many calories you burn by simply walking faster. Don't be afraid to pass up those slow walkers and show them how it's done!
6.
Drink more water. Not only is it good for you, but it will also keep you feeling full without the calories. Not only will it keep you full, but it will also allow you to flush toxins out of your body. I know its cliché, but carry a bottle of water (preferably a BPA-free reusable bottle) with you and drink often. Beware, you will be hitting the bathroom often.
7.
Start a garden. If you have always wanted to start a garden, now is the time to do it. And no, don't hire anyone to do it for you, get out there and do it yourself. Not only will you have vegetables and fruits that will be fresh and not contain any pesticides, but you will also burn tons of calories doing it. It is a win-win situation. Plus, gardening is fun and nothing is as nice as eating the food you have grown yourself.
8.
Use free weights instead of machines. Instead of using the machines, work out with free weights. Unlike machines, you must lift weights to load and unload the bars and you
14
www .G ospel NOW. net
also have to pick up and put back the weights. This increases the calories you burn because it increases the work you are performing. Instead of just changing the pin, you must actually move weights when working with free weights. By the way, free weights are not more dangerous than machines.
9.
Clean the house. Cleaning the house will burn a lot of calories. Think about all the work that goes into doing the dishes and vacuuming the floors. Every time you move your body you are increasing the amount of calories you are burning. There is always something to clean, so quit putting it off and get to those chores you have been wanting to do.
10.
Lay off the soda and juice. Soda is a can full of empty calories and offers absolutely no nutritional value. Cut back your soda intake to at least once a week if you must have soda. Same goes for the juice.
11.
Exercise, exercise, exercise. Of course, most of these tips are exercise; but you should also hit the gym about 4 times a week. Now, which kind of exercise should you do? Well, you can do aerobics, but resistance training increases the amount of calories you burn for up to 24 hours after the exercise session has ceased. Not only that, but by increasing your muscle mass, you will decrease the flab and tighten up those spots you have been trying to firm up. Also, you cannot spot-reduce fat, so forget all that talk about doing sit-ups to slim up the abs. By following these simple steps, you will be able to burn tons of calories and tighten up your body for summer. Although these tips may seem self-evident, many people do not realize how effective these tips are. If you follow them, you will be ready for this summer.

Eating and Diabetes
veryone has to eat. Not only do we need to eat for basic survival, but we need to eat in order to provide our bodies with the necessary energy, vitamins and nutrients that it needs to function properly. However, how we eat and what we eat can vary in making sure that our bodies perform at its full potential. If you have diabetes or are prediabetic, what you eat is even more important for your overall health. You can take good care of yourself and your diabetes by learning what to eat, how much to eat and when to eat.
Making Wise Food Choices Can Help You: • Feel Good Every Day • Lose Weight If You Need To • Lower Your Risk For Heart Disease, Stroke, And Other Problems Caused By Diabetes If you are diabetic, learning to make healthier food choices can have a great impact on your daily life. For example, making healthy food choices helps to keep your blood glucose, also called blood sugar, in its target range. The diabetes target range is the blood glucose level suggested by diabetes experts for good health. The target glucose levels for people before meals should be 70-130 mg/dL, and 1 to 2 hours after the start of the meal your target should be less 180 mg/dL. You can help prevent health problems by keeping your blood glucose levels on target.
You can help to keep your blood glucose levels on target by: • Making Wise Food Choices • Being Physically Active • Taking Medicines If Needed
Be sure to talk to your health provider about your specific blood glucose target levels and about how often you should check your blood glucose level on your own. Also, important to your overall diabetes health is your A1C level. Your A1C level shows what your average blood glucose was for the past three months; that number should be less than 7.0. Ask your doctor to perform an A1C test at least twice a year. The results from your blood glucose checks and your A1C test will tell you whether your diabetes care plan is working. There are several things you can be doing to help manage your diabetes. Taking your diabetes medicines, following a schedule for meals, snacks, and also including physical activity are all helpful in managing the disease.
Hebni recently launched a new website that includes a section focused on diabetes management and prevention. The new site features a series of twelve newly created diabetes webisodes along with articles, links and other resources. The new website can be found at www. HebniNutrition.org. Fashion
Thinking Outside The Closet! Formal shirts and trousers are common church dresses for men but women have a wide option of clothing. Women can wear skirts and tops on certain rituals and long white dresses on a wedding ceremony held in a church. No attire should show off indecency and disrespect to the God. Dresses like skin tight jeans, short mini skirts low-cut backlines, and tank tops are some of the most indecent and inappropriate dresses.
Crazy For It
Along with church dresses, some of the fashion accessories like hats, stoles, jewelry, and shoes deliver a more flattering and modest look. The fabric, the prints, and the designs can vary depending on the season and on the type of occasion. Summer calls for a cotton, chiffon, or georgette fabric whereas winter calls for silk, polyester, or crepe. Summer is a season where the person has to deck up with more emphasis on shoes rather than on clothing.

Pastor Derrick McRae An Amazing Experience
A
personal encounter that leaves you inspired, empowered, and even converted. That’s the simplified sum of all things divinely orchestrated to impact your psyche and your spirit at THE EXPERIENCE Christian Center, led by Pastor Derrick McRae. In a season where the Faith Community is receiving no exemption from the frustrations of financial mayhem around the globe, McRae and his one-year old congregation have stepped out in faith to facilitate life-change and community transformation amidst the rubble of one of Orlando’s economically depraved and crime-ridden neighborhoods. Within a stone’s throw from South Orange Blossom Trail on 26th Street, the impact of total-man transformation takes place through regularly scheduled worship experiences, seminars, small group activities, and family reformation programs designed to fortify the fibers of the modern-day urban family. On the first anniversary of the church’s existence, Pastor McRae shares his vision and the vehicles he intends to employ to facilitate the local, and ultimately global reach of THE EXPERIENCE Christian Center. Willie C Barnes, God really revealed the time for the elevation. I had a meeting with Pastor Barnes, in which he confirmed what God had spoken to me! It’s always awesome when your spiritual covering is able to hear from God as well!
Congratulations, first of all! It has already been a year! How has the experience (no pun intended) impacted you personally, thus far? This past year has been amazing! To feel led that God is pushing you in a direction, and to see it take place are two totally different things! This year God has proven Himself to be faithful, friendly and favorable! My “Experience” this year has elevated my faith to a level that now lives in expectation. At what point in your personal ministry did it become obvious to you, that you were eventually going to pastor? I’ve known that pastoring was in my future for some time now! Dating back to my days at Florida A&M University, God has been preparing me for this moment! When I was the Youth Pastor of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church under Pastor 24
www .G ospel NOW. net
Your journey to this season has really been a progression of steps, stages, and stations. Tell us about some of the stations and stages along the way. When God really began to reveal the plan for this ministry, it was while I was on a 21-day fast! I can remember a pastor telling me, “when it’s your season it’s not difficult!” We then started having planning sessions (Vision Cast) in my living room, and December 31, 2009 we had our first service at Jones High School. Our ministry has a spirit of excellence, and by April 2010 we were marching into our very own sanctuary with classrooms, fellowship hall, and houses! We’ve always kept prayer as the position, and family as the focus. The Bible says there are many instructors; but not many fathers. Who are the fathers whose thumbprints mark your life and ministry? My life has been impacted by Men and Women in ministry. Pastor Larry Miles (Richmond, VA) Bishop
You have a beautiful family. How much have you been able to integrate your family into the ministry? My family is very involved, but I’ve allowed them to pick and choose what they desire to do! My wife leads the women’s ministry at the church and she does a very good job! My desire has been for my family to love the church and not hate daddy/husband’s job!
Julia Wade, Bishop Joseph Walker II, Bishop Allen Wiggins, my favorite preacher in the world Pastor Derrick W. Hutchins, Pastor Jonathan L. McKnight, Pastor Sharon Riley, and the list goes on! I’ve been blessed to know and be influenced by many wonderful preachers!
You are a father, biologically and spiritually. As you mentor and model, what principles are you depositing into the lives of the families that you lead? I’m working hard to maintain balance! I realize that my family needs me as much as my church! I want to be a role model for the boys and my baby girl, as well as my church! My goal is that those who know me will be able to maintain focus and favor! Prayer, worship and devotion are a must, to gain spiritual success.
What do you want THE EXPERIENCE to be known for? A place of worship, community service, friendly atmosphere, and positive impact in the individual lives of those who come in contact with us! Our desire is to service the needs of those who God sends our way! As a leader in Central Florida’s Faith Community, what are you hoping to see in Orlando‘s Faith Community in your lifetime? My only desire is for the Orlando Faith community to join together to make positive changes in our communities as we re-establish the church as the beacon of light for our community!
You were raised in a traditional church. Is there any variation in your ministry style, from the way you were raised? A little! I feel that I have the best of both worlds! I’m a young man with street experiences, as well as church experiences! I love various styles of worship! I feel when the spirit is right, any born-again believer with a true relationship with God can connect! Our ministry style is a mixture of contemporary and traditional, excluding no one! With the first year under your belt, what has been your greatest challenge? My greatest challenge has been pacing myself! My nature is that where I’m never satisfied, I always want greater for the kingdom, and I want it now! I have to keep reminding myself that we are one year and not 20 years old! www .G ospel NOW. net

Memorial Day
M
emorial Day Weekend 2011 for some is a visit to a national cemetery to remember loved ones who have served their country; and for others it is the unofficial start of summer, and time to find those long neglected Memorial Day recipes and maybe even check out the local parade schedule. For most of us there is time for both remembrance and celebration. Although it began as a time of remembrance and reconciliation after the Civil War in the 1860’s, by the early 20th century, Memorial Day had become a general time of reflection for deceased loved ones, whether they had served in the military or not. The federal holiday observed on the last Monday of May was formerly known as Decoration Day, commemorating the U.S. soldiers who died while in the military service. Whether you are grilling rib-eye or lamb, shrimp or salmon; be sure to mark your celebration with family fun, festivals, fond memories of deceased loved ones and faithful observance of the sacrifices of our service personnel. 30

How The Right Email Policy Can
Save Your Business
I
t is common knowledge that an employer can access any email account that is provided to its employees by the company. However, many people do not realize that an employer may also have the ability to access emails sent from an employee’s personal email account if the email was transmitted using the company computer. Moreover, many people do not know that an employee may waive their right to claim that an email is attorney-client privilege if they communicate with their attorney using a company email address. It is crucial for employers to revisit and revise their employee handbooks to ensure that the email policies are compliant with the current laws within their jurisdiction.
In Holmes v. Petrovich Development Co., LLC, a California Court recently held that emails sent by an employee from a work email address to her attorney about employment discrimination allegations against her employer were not protected by the attorneyclient privilege. The employee deleted her emails from her work computer anticipating that this would maintain their confidentiality. She subsequently quit her job and sued the company alleging various claims against her employer including hostile work environment, harassment, constructive discharge, violation of privacy rights, retaliation and intentional infliction of emotional distress. The employee handbook, which the employee admitted to reading and signing, contained provisions clearly spelling out the policy concerning use of the company's technology resources. The handbook instructed employees that the company's technology resources should be used only for company business and that employees are prohibited from sending or receiving personal e-mails. Moreover, the handbook warned that "[e]mployees who use the Company's Technology Resources to create or maintain personal information or messages have no right of privacy with respect to that information or message." The "Internet and Intranet Usage" policy in the handbook specifically stated, "E-mail is not private communication, because others may be able to read or access the message. E-mail may best be regarded as a postcard rather than as a sealed letter. . . ." The handbook further established that the company may "inspect all files or messages . . . at any time for any reason at its discretion" and that it would periodically monitor its technology resources for compliance with the company's policy.
At trial, the employer offered into evidence the deleted emails from his hard drive to show that the employee had not suffered emotional distress and alleged that the only reason that she filed the lawsuit was because her attorney had instructed her to do so. The employee argued that the employer did not generally access or audit emails sent by employees and that this failure on the employer’s part waived her need to comply with the policy. The jury disagreed with the employee and returned a verdict in favor the employer. The employee appealed and the appellate court affirmed the decision of the jury. The employer in the Holmes case was fortunate enough to have a comprehensive employee handbook that benefited him greatly during litigation. However, most employers are not as fortunate. In 2011, it is imperative that every employer have an Employee Handbook that specifically addresses the company’s policies regarding company email accounts, personal email accounts, internet use, and social networking restrictions when using company computers and/or accounts. These policies must warn employees of the consequences of a violation and it must put employees on notice that the company will be monitoring usage to ensure compliance. Taking the time to create and implement these policies on the front-end can save an employer thousands even millions of dollars in the end.

URGENT!
Please Contact Your Florida Legislators NOW! Dear Friends: As you probably know, the Florida Legislature is moving quickly to enact a law which is similar to Arizona’s anti-immigration law. Florida Senate Bill 2040 has already passed the Judiciary Committee, is scheduled to be heard by the Budget Committee today and may soon head for the full Senate floor. Attached is a synopsis of S.B. 2040. An even more stringent antiimmigration Bill that mirrors the Arizona law is being debated in the State’s House Judiciary Committee (the Florida Immigration Enforcement Act). Whatever comes out of both committees is likely to be changed for the worse once it goes to the full legislature, where many Republican lawmakers are known to support stringent anti-immigration enforcement laws. The House Immigration Bill would make being undocumented a crime, allow law enforcement to establish a person’s immigration status during a lawful stop and allow law enforcement to make an unwarranted arrest of an undocumented person. Although a 9th Circuit Court of Appeals ruling on Monday, which upheld a preliminary injunction against Arizona’s S.B. 1070 Immigration-Enforcement Law, could impact immigration Bills moving through the
Florida Legislature, it is nevertheless critical that we speak out against this proposed legislation. Please contact your Florida legislators now. If you do not know who they are, go to www.flsenate.gov/ senators/results.cfm, fill in your address, and the name of your Florida Representative and Senator will come up. Please let them know that you oppose S.B. 2040 and the Florida Immigration Enforcement Act.

Gospel stations across the country are playing “Walking on Water,” and the listeners love it! Sandy Finklin (Examiner.com) states, “This is a very inspirational song! Most energetic gospel since Kirk Franklin & Mary Mary first came on the scene!!!” Currently charted in the Top 10 best Christian songs for the first quarter of 2011, Thomas Ware has moved from local to national artist over night. Even international stations have tuned in on the new single “Walking on Water,” which was produced by his good friend, two-time Dove Award winner Andy Anderson, who is also credited for production with major industry acts such as Toby Mac, Group One Crew, and several others. Thomas Ware has a powerful testimony. His project contains explosive praise and melodic worship. Youth as well as elders, love this man of God. His album was set back by a life-threatening illness in 2009; but not stopped. Praise God! After his radiation treatment, Thomas Ware is back to health. Moving forward, Thomas teamed up with Pam Morris of Kingdom Entertainment to release his new single, "Walking on Water" and the rest is history. “This song is the battle cry of everyone going through something. Know that staying focused on Jesus will enable you to walk on water,” says Thomas. If you haven’t heard this song, visit (www. ThomasWare.info).
