You Deserve All Praise Madelyn Berry

Release Date: March 2, 2010 Label: BerryTightMusic Description: Madelyn Berry is a gifted praise and

worship leader. An awe-filled example of her gifting is her sophomore musical offering, Berry Tight Music’s "You Deserve All Praise." A true praise and worship masterpiece, the project is a celestial celebration of the goodness of God. The live 15-track CD opens with a riveting, full instrumental praise fest that can’t help but bring the listener into Madelyn’s time of personal adoration to God.

Contact: www.MadelynBerry.com •(386) 212-1839 • berrytightmusic@yahoo.com

H

ave you ever met someone that uplifted your spirit without saying a word? Madelyn Berry is the prime example of someone who the Lord has touched and blessed throughout her life, and we haven’t even gotten to her talent. Her amazing voice overpowers you with joy and the desire to scream His name and pass His word on. This amazing mother, wife, singer, daughter, teacher, and follower of God is truly one of God’s angels sent here to worship His name. She expresses gratitude, determination, and praise while she sits down with me and talks about her second album, “You Deserve All Praise.” - Interview by Nick Grace How did the title of your sophomore album “You Deserve All Praise” surface? The title of the project was going to be "It Was Your Love" until one day my husband told me about a song "You Deserve All Praise". God gave him the song, which I co-wrote. We felt this song was perfect for the title project, because this has been a faith walk for us and through it all we give Him all the praise. How has traveling and your life experiences from college, family life, and marriage matured you as an adult and as an artist? Well I'm more grounded. Being married and having a child has kept me rooted and grounded. Especially our daughter...Mariyah, who just turned three, is starting to understand what mommy does because she travels with me. My family is very supportive.

At what point in your life did you know this was your calling and at what age did you start singing? I started singing around the house at a very early age. I was eleven when I did my first solo at Payne Chapel AME Church in Nashville, TN. It was then I knew God called me to minister through music. Who has been your biggest supporter and had the greatest influence in your life? Besides my mother who was the first person to discover my gift, my husband has truly been my biggest supporter! He has sacrificed so much for my ministry. My parents have had the greatest influence in my life. My mom was the first person to believe, when no one else did. They have always encouraged me every step of the way. What encouraging words can you provide to young adults who strive to be successful in whatever they choose to endure? My encouraging words are this....TELL GOD YES!!!! Yes to HIS WILL, PURPOSE, and PLAN for your life!!! When you are walking in God's divine purpose for your life no matter what comes your way, you won't give up. You know that God is with you every step of the way! God cares and wants us to fulfill our purpose! Where can we find your album? My music can be purchased through a number of digital outlets including iTunes, Amazon and CDBaby.

Illiterate

H

ello readers I hope my article from last month suited your taste for education. And this month's is just as important. I will be talking to you about illiteracy and how it affects each of us. First I looked up the word in the dictionary to see what it says. It reads, "a person who is uneducated, not knowing how to read or write.". Not being able to read or write is very hard to live with in today's world because of technology and other things going on today. Reading about the way that a person who is illiterate is talked about made me want to cry. I remember the way it was for me back in the day. Things were must slower and easier and you could get by with not knowing how to read or write. But not in today's world, because things are moving to fast and you wouldn't be able to keep up. If you are having this problem please ask for help, things are so different today and so many people are

8

willing to help you. Please don't feel bad about who you are. Illiteracy is a BIG THING to talk about and can not be said in just one article. I need to hear from you, and see what you think about what I have said. E-mail me at cashgcashgc@aol.com and let's talk about what's on your mind. If I can be of any help with your education, let me know. There are many programs available to help illiterate adults learn how to read and write. If any of you lack wisdom, let him "ask of God that giveth to all men liberally and upbraideth not, and it shall be given him. But ask in faith or you will receive nothing from the Lord." James 1:5-7 (God's words, not mine.)

Lupus

M

ay is also National Lupus Awareness Month dedicated to helping people recognize a disorder that predominately affects women. Lupus is an autoimmune disease, where the body’s own immune system attacks the tissues and organs, causing a chronic inflammatory response. As a result of the inflammatory process, damage occurs to vital organs such as the kidneys, heart, lungs, joints, and even the skin. Systemic lupus erythematosus is the most common form of lupus, responsible for 70% of all lupus cases. Approximately 1.5 million Americans have lupus with 90% of them being women. Lupus is most often found in women who are African American, Hispanic, or Asian. People with lupus die too early due to complications of lupus. The exact cause of lupus is unknown. It is thought that genetics may put a person at risk for the development of the disease, and that environmental factors may activate the autoimmune response. It is important for individuals who may be at risk for developing lupus, to be able to identify the signs and symptoms of the disease. The signs and symptoms of lupus vary from person to person, and may be mild to severe. Most commonly reported symptoms include fever, fatigue, weight loss, joint pain, a rash that covers the nose and cheeks, and intolerance to extreme cold weather. Some individuals report having feelings of anxiety and/or depression. Complications from lupus result in multisystem organ damage leading to kidney failure, confusion and memory loss, heart damage and non-infectious pneumonia. Women who are pregnant have a higher risk of miscarriage from a lupus flare. People who feel they have lupus should talk with their medical provider immediately. A variety of blood tests are needed

10

to confirm if a person has lupus. Certain medications are used to control the disease, and require management by various specialty physicians such as cardiologist, nephrologists, and rheumatologist. It is important for people with lupus to prevent or reduce flare-ups. Avoiding direct sunlight, minimizing stress, abstaining from tobacco, getting adequate rest and nutrition will decrease occurrence of lupus flares. Patients are encouraged to participate in local support groups and learn strategies to help cope with the physical and emotional challenges of lupus. There are many individuals who are currently living with lupus. Understanding the disease and learning strategies to minimize flares can help those with lupus live full and active lives.

National Women’s Health Week Fact Sheet What is National Women’s Health Week?

When is National Women’s Health Week?

National Women’s Health Week is a weeklong health observance coordinated by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office on Women’s Health (OWH). National Women’s Health Week empowers women to make their health a top priority. With the theme “It’s Your Time,” the nationwide initiative encourages women to take simple steps for a longer, healthier, and happier life. During National Women’s Health Week, communities, businesses, government, health organizations, and other groups work together to educate women about steps they can take to improve their physical and mental health and lower their risks of certain diseases. Important steps include:

The 11th annual National Women’s Health Week will kick off on Mother’s Day, May 9, 2010 and will be celebrated until May 15, 2010. National Women’s Checkup Day will be Monday, May 10, 2010. The eight-week Woman Challenge, an online physical activity program, will begin May 9, 2010.

Getting at least 2 hours and 30 minutes of moderate physical activity, 1 hour and 15 minutes of vigorous physical activity, or a combination of both each week

Eating a nutritious diet

Visiting a health care professional to receive regular checkups and preventive screenings

Avoiding risky behaviors, such as smoking and not wearing a seatbelt

Paying attention to mental health, including getting enough sleep and managing stress

Where is National Women’s Health Week celebrated? Across America — in communities, neighborhoods, towns, cities, counties, hospitals and health centers, businesses, schools, places of worship, and recreation centers, and on the Internet, and wherever else people choose to celebrate women’s health.

Who can host National Women’s Health Week activities? Anyone who wants to help make women’s health a top priority can become a partner, including: •

Local and national health organizations

Local, state, and federal governments

Women’s groups

Why celebrate National Women’s Health Week?

Local and national businesses

Social service agencies

It is important to celebrate National Women’s Health Week to remind women that taking care of themselves is essential to living longer, healthier, and happier lives. Women are often the caregivers for their spouses, children, and parents and forget to focus on their own health. But research shows that when women take care of themselves, the health of their family improves. During National Women’s Health Week it is important to educate our wives, mothers, grandmothers, daughters, sisters, aunts, and girlfriends about the steps they can take to improve their health and prevent disease. After all, when women take even the simplest steps to improve their health, the results can be significant and everyone can benefit.

Like Mother, Like Daughter

A

mother in large part is considered to be the Bible’s most honored woman. Even today in some foreign tribal cultures when a married woman is unable to bear children; unable to become a mother, her husband could possibly burn her at the stake. Motherhood is a highly estimable position in many cultures and this is particularly noted in the Old Testament where her influence is undeniably impactful, as seen in the care given to identifying the mothers of kings in the Books of II Kings and II Chronicles. In these books of the Bible the king’s mother is typically identified preceding a short phrase about the king’s character, summarizing the moral and spiritual tone of the king’s reign. This infers the probability of the queen-mother’s influence on the king; and because of this she is sometimes given more honor than the king’s wife. In God’s discourse to Jerusalem through the mouth of the Prophet Ezekiel, God makes this analogy concerning the influence of the “mother” in Ezekiel 16:44: “As is the mother, so is her daughter.” AMP Layman’s terms equate this to our modern-day phraseology…“like mother, like daughter.” In the context of the scripture, God instructed Ezekiel to cause Jerusalem to understand her abominations. He casts the shadow on the spiritually genetic transmissions from her Canaanite parents, the Amorites (father) and the Hittites (mother). The implication is that Jerusalem received every immoral and detestable transfer possible from her parents or “mother land.” The text points out that at birth, the naval cord was never cut, nor was Jerusalem cleansed in water, rubbed with salt for purification and preservation, nor swaddled with bands to protect and guide the growth and development of the nation. The text illuminates the fact that the behavior modeled in the mother will inevitably become characteristic of the daughter. The magnitude of a mother’s influence should never be underestimated. What nourished the baby (Jerusalem) during gestation still held influence over the daughter after birth. Though

developmentally dysfunctional by default, the hope of Jerusalem’s deliverance could have come by the cutting of the naval cord, cleansing with water, rubbing with salt, and swaddling. In essence, even if the influence of a mother due to some dysfunction has negatively impacted a child, the hope of deliverance remains with the disconnection, cleansing, and redirection of the child’s character and personality. In the Bible, God provides guidelines to direct the deliberate deposits and intentional influence of mothers. The scriptures form the basic foundation for the influence mothers are to have on their children. Deuteronomy 6:6-7 charges parents to make themselves available to teach their children. Proverbs 22:6 challenges parents to train children, helping them to develop their skills and discover their strengths. Titus 2:4-5 instructs mothers to nurture their daughters in an environment of loving support where they in turn will become nurturers of their own families. Bathsheba’s encouragement to her son in Proverbs 31, recites what has become known as the ultimate image of chastity, character, courage and compassion. Mothers are encouraged to model godly living before their children, as the influence of a mother’s character and integrity will not only shape communities and cultures; but also nations and ultimately, the world. Although at times it may appear as though we are neither listening, nor learning; every mother should rest in this confidence…we hear you, we see you, and we appreciate you. The influence of your love, the impact of your lessons, and the strength of your leadership will resonate in our hearts, regulate our thoughts and become reflective in the families that we build and the lives that we shape for ourselves. Whether you have influenced neighborhoods or impacted nations; you are a woman of influence and you will soon see yourself in us. Happy Mother’s Day!

A Woman of Excellence Proverbs Chapter 31 verses 10-31

A

s we celebrate Mother’s Day, this season brings to my mind a very popular story told in Proverbs 31. If you would, allow me to catapult this story into 2010 and give you some insight on the “Woman of Excellence." Women that walk in excellence tend to carry a character found in no other. The Bible records that she is a good woman to her man and that she takes care of her home. We could write a book just on this part alone. Women that walk in excellence spend their time working with her hands. Finding the gift that I believe every woman has within, using that gift to earn money that will help provide for her family. Do you sew? Do you bake? Do you clean? Then woman, you have a business inside of you. Women that walk in excellence are seen as an active force in the community. She does not sit around talking about how things need to change but she finds a way to promote change. When was the last time you stood up for something that you knew was wrong in your community? Have you ever reached out and given to someone in need without being seen? Women that walk in excellence always make preparations for the future. She makes sure her children learn how to be good mothers and fathers to their children. Training them up in the way that they should go, so that when they get

older, the “good” is never departed from their hearts. Women that walk in excellence are well known in the city, the country, the neighborhood, church, places of employment, everywhere. She is not only well known, but people want to be near her and want to learn from her. She is a good and trusted friend. Women that walk in excellence love God and trust God. They know how to pray and they know how to praise. They are women that are full of wisdom. They know when to speak and when to listen. Women that walk in excellence walk in the strength of their God, when all looks hopeless; they know that there is no such thing as a hopeless situation in Jesus Christ. Who can find a Woman of Excellence? Could this woman be you? Evangelist Grace Worthy Can be heard every Saturday on the Grace Worthy Ministries Radio broadcast on Rejoice 1140AM. You can also watch her Television Broadcast every other Saturday on Bright House Channel 49. Worship with her at Christ Dominion Church of God, 3099 Orange Center Blvd, with Pastors, Bishop Quan L Miller and Dr Patricia Miller. Contact her at 407.625.0611 or jlady1990@ aol.com.

Southern Fried Chicken

Ingredients 1 broiler/fryer chicken, cut into 8 pieces 2 cups low fat buttermilk 2 tablespoons kosher salt 2 tablespoons paprika 2 teaspoons garlic powder 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper Flour, for dredging Vegetable shortening, for frying

Directions Place chicken pieces into a plastic container and cover with buttermilk. Cover and refrigerate for 12 to 24 hours. melt enough shortening (over low heat) to come just 1/8-inch up the side of a 12-inch cast iron skillet or heavy fry pan. Once shortening liquefies raise heat to 325 degrees F. Do not allow oil to go over 325 degrees F. Drain chicken in a colander. Combine salt, paprika, garlic powder, and cayenne pepper. Liberally season chicken with this mixture. Dredge chicken in flour and shake o excess. Place chicken skin side down into the pan. Put thighs in the center, and breast and legs around the edge of the pan. The oil should come half way up the pan. Cook chicken until golden brown on each side, approximately 10 to 12 minutes per side. More importantly, the internal temperature should be right around 180 degrees. (Be careful to monitor shortening temperature every few minutes.) Drain chicken on a rack over a sheet pan. Don't drain by setting chicken directly on paper towels or brown paper bags. If you need to hold the chicken before serving, cover loosely with foil but avoid holding in a warm oven, especially if it's a gas oven.

HAITIANS HELP HAITI

THE EARTHQUAKE WHICH AFFECTED HAITI LEFT MILLIONS OF HAITIANS WITHOUT FOOD, WATER, CLOTHING, OR SHELTER. THE AFTERMATH OF THIS DISASTER IS STILL FELT TODAY BECAUSE THOSE CITIZENS ARE STILL STRUGGLING TO LIVE AND MAKE IT THROUGH EVERY DAY. AS A RESULT, EFFORTS OF THOSE HERE ARE ENDLESS AS THEY STRIVE TO HELP ALL OF THOSE WHO ARE IN NEED. THREE BRAVE, UNSELFISH, COURAGEOUS, KINDHEARTED, LOVING, AND CARING PEOPLE WORK SEVEN DAYS A WEEK TO MAKE THOSE WHO ARE LESS FORTUNATE AND AFFECTED BY THIS DEVASTATION HAVE BETTER LIVES. ALONG WITH THEM; ONE CHURCH, THE HOPE CHURCH OF ORLANDO HAS JOINED TO ORGANIZE A TENT DRIVE ASPIRING TO TAKE MANY SUPPLIES, FOOD, AND CLOTHING TO HAITI TO HELP OUT WHOMEVER MAY NEED THEM. THEY HAVE TAKEN IN OVER SIXTY CHILDREN THUS FAR RANGING UP TO AGE TWELVE. THE CHILDREN WILL BE PLACED IN SCHOOL TO RECEIVE AN EDUCATION TO BETTER THEMSELVES AND SECURE A FUTURE EVEN AFTER THEIR FAMILY MEMBERS HAVE BEEN TRAGICALLY KILLED OR LOST IN THAT HORRENDOUS NATIONAL DISASTER. AS WE ALL KNOW, THROUGH GOD EVERYTHING IS POSSIBLE. THIS IS THE VERY PRINCIPLE THAT THESE DEDICATED PEOPLE WORK DAY IN AND NIGHT OUT TO DEMONSTRATE, SETTING A STERLING EXAMPLE FOR THE YOUNGER GENERATION. WE CAN ALL LEARN A LIFE LESSON WHEN WE FEEL THAT OUR LIFE IS DREADFUL. THERE IS ALWAYS SOMEONE DOING WORSE THAN WE ARE AND WE SHOULD THANK GOD EVERYDAY THAT WE HAVE WHAT WE ENCOMPASS. I SAT DOWN WITH MRS. AGNES SANFORT WHO IS THE FOUNDER AND ORGANIZER OF THIS DRIVE. SHE SHARES WITH ME HER LIFE VALUES, GOALS, AND WHY SHE IS SO DETERMINED TO HELP AS MANY CITIZENS AS SHE CAN. - INTERVIEW BY NICK GRACE

When and how did your organization originate? We have seven organizations in total which were started with the relief of Haiti. I have about fifteen drives which I am a part of. We started the tent drive because there are a lot of problems going on in Haiti. I work seven days a week taking care of over 60 children. Me and two of my colleagues help take care of these children to prepare them to go to school. We want to send supplies and clothes to the less fortunate to assist them in any way possible. Who else helps take part in your organization and donation drives?

Hope Church of Orlando assists us in hosting the tent drive along with my two friends and myself. How big do you feel this organization can grow in the future? We would love for the organization to develop in the future. We don’t know right now how immense it can grow only God knows. However, we do it to help and we pray to God that it will grow. We have everything we need here but these people don’t have anything. I would give them the clothes off my back if I could because I don’t need more than I have already. We would like to build houses, hospitals, and churches if we had the money and man power to do so. How did you come up with this idea and does the organization travel to Haiti? My mother was a poor lady living in Haiti. We saw how hard she worked raising us as her children to survive and to be successful. When you see this it makes you want to give back anyway you know how. I grew up in a 2 room house; a bedroom and

a living room. In the U.S. you see people with big houses and are spoiled with more stuff than they need. I would rather give back and help as much as I can. I have been helping since I was a little girl because I can. We would like to travel to Haiti rather than just send the supplies to make sure they get to the people who really need them. Some people will try to sell them and not give them to the people who are in need and can’t help themselves. I would love to go myself. I haven’t been back since 2004; but I have an organization in Haiti to which I have sent a generator and more supplies. I have sent a water pump so they can water their gardens and bathe because there is no water. I have started building a school and I am trying to build a clinic right now because there are no doctors. Do you feel you can expand the organization further than just for the relief of Haiti? We leave it in God’s hands because we can dream to do more but you never know what may occur and will happen in the future. We just work as hard as we can so we can enhance the lives of others. The rest is up to God if he allows us to do more we would love to, it’s just out of our hands. How can you be contacted and how can others donate to the drive? We can be contacted at Lesly (407) 371-8273, Agnes Sanfort (407) 844-5196, and Phillip (407) 6927440. We will take any and everything people will be so kind to donate to us. We appreciate it very much and God bless everyone!!!

Interview by Nick Grace. Words by Jim Brothers.

to Host 1st Annual Stellar Awards Gospel Music Festival in Orlando, Mother's Day Weekend.

V

ickie Winans and the Stellar Awards Gospel Music Festival will be taking over Orlando for Mother's Day. The festival comes to Orlando May 7th–9th and will feature a star-studded line up of talent including Vickie Winans, Yolanda Adams, Byron Cage, Shirley Caesar and Karen Clark Sheard, to name a few. I was delighted to be able to speak with Ms. Winans and get to know her on a more personal level. When speaking with Ms. Winans, you get a first-hand account of the love and dedication that Jesus had during His ministry. Her drive is unprecedented in the industry and it shows clearly through all that she does.

How are you on this blessed day? I know you have been fairly busy in the past weeks.

I’m fantastic! I’ve been busy for the last 20 years (laughing) but it’s a blessing. How was life growing up being the 7th child and having six older siblings?

It was tight! We had a 3 bedroom house. I’d usually get the leftovers out of the can of sardines. How difficult is it managing your own music and also running your own management company (Viviane, Inc.)?

It can get pretty crazy! I do so much myself. Right now I’m in the studio putting the final touches on my album, “How I Got Over.” I look after the promotions and I answer my own emails. I’m also running my other businesses and still making time for my family. How have you been able to be successful for over 30 years, keeping your music fresh and relative to your fans?

I’m 57 years old but I have made it a point to keep my finger on the pulse of the youth. I have a lot of support from the people around me.

24

I’ve read that you perform approximately 230 shows a year! That has to take a toll! How do you manage to keep going?

God has blessed me with good health. It’s the only way I’ve been able to keep going at this pace for so long. I’ve always said, “health before wealth.” How do you manage to stay so humble and real even to this day with all the success you have had?

I do my best to stay accountable to God. I remember that He is the reason for everything I do. What is your greatest accomplishment and why?

Being one of 12 children, my parents were always struggling. Once I became successful, I was able to buy my parents a home and take care of their bills. So I guess my greatest accomplishment was being able to give back to my parents and help repay them for all they’ve given to us.

Now, your new album, titled “How I Got Over,” sold over 20,000 copies in the first week and recently peaked at #1 on the Billboard Gospel Album Sales Chart. What is your favorite song on the album?

It would have to be the title track to the album, “How I Got Over.” I’ve had many hardships, struggles, and set-backs in my life. The song is a testimony of how God took me through these hardships and allowed me to make it through. It’s about being a survivor. It’s also special to me because my nephew was able to put down a little scat at the end. How much of your success do you give credit to God and family?

God is the spiritual and family is the physical. So I have to say, I give 100% of the credit to God and 100% of the credit to my family. Where do you see your career going and what do you plan on doing next?

Well I’m not sure we’ll be around long enough for me to see it go as far as I’d like it to, but I just hope as many people as possible can hear and receive my message of how great God is before Jesus comes back for us! The Stellar Awards Gospel Music Festival will be taking place May 7th–9th at the Rosen Shingle Creek Resort & Spa. VICKIE WINANS WITH HER GRANDCHILDREN ON HER WEDDING DAY.

VICKIE WINANS REBOUNDS OVER PERSONAL TRAGEDY WITH NEW BET TV SERIES “A TIME TO LAUGH”

AND A DYNAMIC NEW CD ENTITLED “HOW I GOT OVER!”

The Hardest Working Woman in Gospel, Vickie Winans, has overcome a lot since her last CD was released in 2006. Since then, Winans’ beloved mother Mattie Bowman passed away and Winans departed from Verity Records to launch her own Destiny Joy recording label. After surviving those trying times, Winans has rebounded triumphantly. “God has been good to me,” says the seven-time Grammy nominated singer. “I give Him all the praise. He’s stayed with me and held me up when I couldn’t hold up myself. There are so many great things happening that I just have to say that it’s because of God that I made it over.” How I got Over is the name of Winans’ selfproduced CD that hit stores on August 25, 2009. The eleven-song project is a mix of traditional and urban contemporary songs. Her first radio single, “How I Got Over” is Winans’ personal testimony. Taking a line from an old hymn classic favorite, Winans creates a brand new song that celebrates her victories, faith and trust in God. It opens with an upbeat, but old school church flavor and breaks down into a contemporary vamp before closing with her nephew, Tim Bowman Jr. laying down some jazzy scats that would make Ella Fitzgerald stand up and applaud. The project is rounded out with a brilliant dance song “Heyyy” (featuring Tye Tribbett), “Release It” (a tear jerking ballad), and “Swoop” among others. Recently, Black Entertainment Television (BET) signed Winans to host a new comedy TV series, “A Time to Laugh.” Winans has already begun taping some of the 30 episodes that feature her hilarious emcee skills, G-rated comedians and inspirational music. The series debuted on BET in January 2010. The self-managed artist is also a successful businesswoman who owns a jewelry store and wig shop, Accents by Vickie Winans. Winans burst on the gospel music scene in 1985 with her signature smash “We Shall Behold Him.” She’s remained one of gospel music’s Top 10 artists with appearances on NBC Today and Oprah. She has appeared on the cover of Jet magazine, served as celebrity spokesperson for Daimler-Chrysler and Quaker Oats. Other hits include #1 songs “As Long As I Got King Jesus”, “Shake Yourself Loose” and “The Rainbow.” media Contact: Bill Carpenter at (202) 506-5051 or carpenterbill@mac.com www.GospelNow.Net

T

he "visitor" visa is a nonimmigrant visa for persons desiring to enter the United States temporarily for business (B-1) and for pleasure or medical treatment (B-2). As examples, if the purpose of your planned travel is recreational in nature, including tourism, amusement, visits with friends or relatives, rest, medical treatment, and activities of a fraternal, social, or service nature, then a visitor visa (B-2) would be the appropriate type of visa for your travel. As additional examples, if the purpose for your planned travel is to consult with business associates, travel for a scientific, educational, professional or business convention, or conference on specific dates, settle an estate, or negotiate a contract, then a business (B-1) visitor visa would be the appropriate type of visa for your travel. Foreign travelers who are citizens from certain eligible countries, may also be able to visit the U.S. without a visa on the Visa Waiver Program.

QUAliFYinG For A viSA Applicants for visitor visas must show that they qualify under provisions of the Immigration and Nationality Act. Applicants must demonstrate that they are properly classifiable as visitors under U.S. law.

Therefore, applicants for visitor visas must overcome this presumption by demonstrating that: • The purpose of their trip is to enter the U.s. for business, pleasure, or medical treatment; • That they plan to remain for a specific, limited period; • Evidence of funds to cover expenses in the United States; • Evidence of compelling social and economic ties abroad; and • That they have a residence outside the U.S. as well as other binding ties which will insure their return abroad at the end of the IMMIGRATION QUESTIONS? visit.

G

od shows Himself in many different shapes and forms. He has sent a real blessing down from the Heavens above with a very talented and motivated woman by the name of Veronica Smith. She is a mother of two and a business owner located right here in Orlando, Florida. She attends The Life Center Church of Eatonville, Florida where she fulfills her duty as a Ministries Assistant, training and teaching others also as an Evangelist. This follower of God also is one of the founding members of The National Coalition of 100 Black Women-Central Florida. She shares her principles of faith and also expresses her mission to me. Open your ears and mind to this miraculous woman as she introduces us to her journey and her life. - Interview by Nick Grace greetings Veronica, how does it feel to wake up another day by the blessing of god? It is indeed wonderful to know that God’s grace has not failed me yet. I am blessed to have another opportunity to wake up in His presence with an overwhelming sense of gratitude. I feel special and honored that He again has me on His mind as always with a purpose to see my day through, Glory to God! Can you break down a day in your shoes being a mother and a business owner? Wow, my day starts quite early and ends relatively late and somehow I manage to get a little rest thereafter. With motivation, strategy and inspiration from God, my mind is able to get the children (A’liyah & Vadohl Smith) off to school with a healthy packed lunch while preparing the rest of my day with the demands of life, ministry, personal business, and people. I am a full-time staffed minister with The Life Center Church (Eatonville, Florida) as Ministries Assistant; which involves ministry development and implementation of vision among many other responsibilities. In addition, I am in business for myself as a distributor of Enagic, specializing in health awareness and education through the benefits of Kangen (“return back to

origin”) Alkaline Water. Now as for proper rest that eventually comes after the cleaning, the dinner, basketball and track practices & games, homework and lastly planning for the next day. I have to always stay ahead in order to achieve success and maximize my day to its fullness. I would be remiss if I did not acknowledge my mother in whom I am so grateful for. My mother (Vergia Wilson) always graciously extends herself to be a blessing in assisting me in every way possible. What was the hardest obstacle you faced on your journey of higher education and owning your business? There were many obstacles. I used to think people and resources were my greatest obstacle. However, I now know that my hardest obstacle has been myself. When I came to a place of determination, and I really began to take God at His word, the obstacle became a stepping stone towards my success as opposed to my demise. I had to overcome my own personal enemies such as fear, doubt, intimidation, and my own insecurities. It is better to follow after what you believe rather than what you feel. I believe that I can do all things through Christ Jesus that strengthens me and I also believe that all things are possible to those who believe. Having a belief in the promises of God have reshaped my determination and has definitely set me on the course of faith. Can you explain what an evangelist is? An Evangelist is first and foremost a servant of God who declares to the unbeliever the redeeming power of Jesus Christ, a message of hope and salvation through the Lordship of Christ. According to Ephesians 4, the Evangelist is one of the many gifts to the church responsible for further building up of God’s Kingdom through teaching and training the believer towards a life of spiritual maturity and faith in Jesus Christ. How proud are you being from the oldest municipality in the United states from a small town such as eatonville, Fl?

I am very proud to be able to serve the oldest black municipality (Eatonville) in the United States and i have been doing so since 1999. i was actually born in Rockledge, Florida and currently residing in Orlando, Florida. With my commitment to ministry and service at The Life Center Church as well as other organizations such as Every Kid Outreach, G-Rated, and The National Coalition of 100 Black Women–Central Florida, along with other various outreach endeavors, I have been afforded the opportunity to humbly serve in the historic Eatonville community. It serves me well to represent Eatonville, a community with such a rich heritage reflecting the eorts and hard work & dedication of strong African American business owners, professionals, and committed citizens alike. Please give a brief description of the three dimensional disciplines of your faith being optimal health, spiritual, and financial prosperity. I will try to be brief as much as possible, although this is my story. I have been blessed over the years to have overall good health and inconsiderately thought I had no need to make health a major priority in my life, especially, since I had done so well in that area. Until recently, I became inspired through divine revelation and breakthrough. God opened the door for Health Education to help me see that I was not at all taking good care of His temple, my earthly suit, due to the many foods and beverages I was consuming on a daily basis. When I realized what I was doing to my body, with intense conviction, I repented before God asking for his forgiveness and committed to a lifestyle change towards optimal health. It is a new journey for me. However, God did remind and encourage me through the scriptures in 3 john 2 that His desire is that I prosper in all things, and be in health, just as my soul prospers. This explains the three dimensional disciplines of my faith as a believer. God says that He has given us all things that pertain to life and godliness; which means, God has given us wisdom on how to take care of our bodies, wisdom on how to govern our finances and most of all wisdom on how to have a healthy spiritual life. I desire to be a wise steward over all that God has entrusted to me. After all, I will have to give an account of myself before God.

Please explain for the readers the journey you took to becoming the one of the founding members of The national Coalition of 100 Black Women-Central Florida. The journey began with two African American attorneys in the Central Florida area who were in search of an organization by which they would be able to best represent and give back to community. There was a strong sense of civic duty with an agenda to include various opportunities for sisterhood, self-empowerment, community presence, service and development through health, education, and economic empowerment. The National Coalition of 100 Black Women stood out to be the choice organization and I was ecstatic to become a part of this prestigious group of African American women who live with a purpose. Bravo! NCBW Central Florida, we are well on our way to building a wonderful chapter in the Central Florida area. Can you clarify your mission for the readers? Yes, my mission is to reconcile, empower, and equip individuals into the Kingdom of God by serving and preaching the message of Jesus Christ who is Savior and Lord of my life. It is my passion to connect and reconnect individuals back to God through ministry to the people, not from the people. It is a call to serve His people and inspire them to live a life in the fullness of Jesus Christ. The anointed gifts that God has graced me with are the by-products with which I am able to accomplish His plans for fulfilling my life mission. When do you feel that your mission is complete and you have satisfied what you are called to do? My mission will be complete when God determines. I do not believe that you retire from your mission. It is perpetual work that was established by God and will be finished by God. Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun the work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ (Philippians 1:6). God is really doing His thing and I am glad to be a part of it. Thank you Jesus!

Action Has “No” Season (Part 2)

E

Written By: Pastor Y.

liab, one of David’s brothers, got angry and scolded him, and accused him of just being prideful. Eliab even ascribed to telling David that he knows the insolence (disrespect) of his heart, and he just wanted to see the battle. It never ceases to amaze me that when you walk in the confidence of knowing who you are in God and what He has anointed you to do, the Eliabs want to give you a title of being prideful, when the Word tells us to be BOLD AND COURAGEOUS. David answers Eliab by saying, “What have I done now? Is there not a cause?” I can only imagine David thinking to himself, yall scared and don’t want to do anything, but you have the audacity to question me and criticize my motives, because I am confident in the God I serve and the anointing I carry. Wow... people are amazing. Eliab would rather an entire nation of people be destroyed, before he believes or receives the fact that his little brother has been preparing for this day, and God has already given him the victory. That is scary. After hearing fear in the voice of the men, and seeing that no one was going to challenge Goliath, David steps up to the plate. Once he did this, he was told by the King that he could not defeat Goliath because he was just a youth. Oh, but David’s mind went back to the field where God was preparing him for his day of manifestation. He recalled his victory against the lion and the bear. David declared, “The Lord who delivered me from the paw of the lion and the bear, will also deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.” David was confident in what God had done in him while he worked the fields, and took care of the sheep. Saul finally agreed to let him fight, but in his heart, he had no faith in David’s ability. He gave David his armor, but David took it off, because it wasn’t battle tested nor God approved. David went back to what he knew. He grabbed his staff,

five smooth stones from the brook and put the stones in his bag, while he carried his sling in his hand. My friends, there comes a time in your life when you have to go with what you know. You have to stick with what delivered you the first time. You have to hold tight to who brought you out the first time. Too often, we allow people to put something on us that didn’t even work for them, and we expect to get the victory? Not so.You better be careful who you take advice from, and who you take instructions from, when you are facing the Goliaths in your life. Saul didn’t spend one day in the field with David, taking care of sheep. He wasn’t there when David spent those lonely days in a field looking at sheep all day, trying to fight the feelings of being insignificant, unworthy, and less than his brothers. See, people are anointed to show up after the fact, and then want to tell you what you should or shouldn’t do, after God has already given you instructions, while you were in your field of preparation. It’s amazing how people refuse to believe that God just may have given you that revelation, God just may be moving and speaking through you, God just may be administering His gifts through you. For some reason, many act as though the anointing is only for a select group of people or God can only use certain people. I stopped by to tell you something today. My name may not be Paula White, I may not be speaking in auditoriums to thousands, and I may not have the money and resources to do everything God has placed in my heart, yet. But, there is one thing that I do know. Action has no season, and when God shows up to manifest everything He has promised and everything He has spoken to my heart to do, He will find me working! I will be working while waiting on the Lord, because Action Has No Season!
