Compelling reasons to use Agvance 1

BEST QUALITY IMPORTS. Only the best quality trace minerals and vitamins are selected for import. Manufacturers are required to supply specification sheets that meet or exceed Agvance’s stringent requirements for each consignment supplied.

2

QUALITY TESTED. All minerals used are independently quality tested by laboratories in Canada, the United States and Germany.

3

BASF BACKED. All mineral chelates used in our blends are underpinned by the best science and technology that the world’s biggest chemicals manufacturer can bring to bear.

4

GUARANTEED TRACEABILITY. Each ingredient, along with its original specification sheet and independent analysis data, is tracked by batch number within our system, these individual mineral batch numbers are then tied directly into the recipe for each blend. To better trace and guarantee the quality and consistency of each formulation, a sample of the blended product is retained in our factories for a period of 12 months following date of manufacture.

5

RECOMMENDED BY VETERINARIANS. For more than 8 years, Kiwi vets have been recommending Agvance formulations to their clients on thousands of dairy farms. During this time, these vets have actively used both Customizer (customized blends), standard Solutrace, and also their own vet branded blends – all blended and supplied by Agvance. The proven results can be found on thousands of Kiwi farms.

+

THE RESULTS SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES. Liver biopsies and blood samples regularly carried out by vets on hundreds of farms prove these products work consistently to achieve good results.

BASF GUARANTEED FOR QUALITY AND EFFICACY Key mineral chelates – copper and zinc glycinates – are supplied in the New Zealand market to Agvance by BASF Germany, the world’s largest chemical and feed supplement company, where they are manufactured to the highest possible standards.

Testing of the bond between chelate and mineral is done by BASF themselves, a research and development technology which is exclusive to BASF for the benefit of Agvance customers.

TESTED TO GLOBAL STANDARDS Agvance carries out a range of tests specific to each mineral being tested. Depending on the mineral being tested, analysis can include such things as elemental mineral level, solubility, heavy metal impurity levels and Dioxin/PCB levels.

Every single formulation is produced using Agvance machinery at one of the company’s own factories, effectively guaranteeing that these quality standards are maintained from procurement of ingredients, through to accuracy of blending, supply to farm and, finally, assessment of herd health, and analysis of herd data, all carried out by your local vet.

* Brookside Laboratories is the only laboratory in the world offering complete agricultural/turf, environmental and certified (ISO 17025) testing services.

BEST QUALITY IMPORTS Agvance imports thousands of tonnes annually of a wide range of products including, trace elements, vitamins, soluble seaweed extracts, fulvic and humic acids, and many other products related to animal nutrition and soil fertility.

BASF’s own Sustainability, Eco-Efficiency and Traceability (SET) initiative allows Agvance to trace exactly which ingredients were used and which conditions applied in the manufacture of the product, via the Global Traceability Network (GTNet).

EVERY FARM IS DIFFERENT. That’s why Agvance has a proven track record (and a sound reputation with NZ vets) for providing trace mineral and vitamin nutrition supplements for livestock and farm animals that can be specifically tailored to each herd’s requirements. Agvance formulations are specially blended using only the highest quality ingredients, processes and technology to achieve optimum results when addressing a wide range of deficiencies, and so helping to prevent deficiencies that can lead to such issues as lameness, facial eczema, infertility, metabolic diseases, somatic cell problems and infectious diseases, as well as many other diverse problems.

What is an Amino Acid Chelate?

I

t is a metal that has been attached to a fully hydrolyzed amino acid protein through a special process as shown in the diagram.  The metal is protected in such a way that rumen bacteria and enzymes do not degrade it.  The amino acid chelate is absorbed directly to the cell, thus it is utilized to its full potential. Our mineral amino acid chelates are manufactured using a highly advanced and technologically superior process utilizing natural enzymes to hydrolyze proteins in such a way as to maintain their full nutritional integrity. These hydrolyzed proteins are then combined with high purity minerals under a controlled reaction process to form a combination of mineral and protein called a mineral amino acid chelate. Mineral amino acid chelates protect the mineral against degradation and negative mineral binding that commonly takes place within the rumen, the mineral along with the protein is absorbed in the intestinal tract and taken up directly to the cell. Minerals in this form can therefore be utilized to their full potential without the risk of further complicating the absorption or increasing the excretion of other elements.

CALCULATING FEED RATIONS IN CUSTOMIZER

Feed added to list and daily amount fed entered.

Choose feed from dropdown list and feed added to diet.

The Customizer feed premix module allows the farmers vet or nutritionist to either build a database of feed information for every individual farm by building custom feeds based on feed analysis. Alternatively he can choose to use standard feed analysis data from the comprehensive online feed tables available from within the program. The standard feed tables are based on average feed analysis levels for feeds grown under typical NZ conditions on NZ soils.

The Customizer feed module can accurately calculate the exact nutritional requirements for a transition cow. 10

Custom feeds can be created and then stored in the database for current and future use.

Key minerals attached to a protein Chelated trace elements have a different mode of action to minerals in sulphate form. Amino acid chelates bypass the rumen and are absorbed through the intestinal wall hence they take more of a direct route to the blood stream. Minerals in amino acid form pose less of a problem when in combination with other minerals, this is particularly relevant to copper and zinc. By supplying key minerals in chelated form while maintaining good levels in the sulphate form offers the advantage of a wider range of minerals at much higher levels of concentration.

Mineral Supplementation for Goats Goats are a very high performing dairy animal, being somewhat more efficient at converting dry matter to milk volume and milk solids, than even high producing dairy cows. They also have very specific mineral requirements in that they require higher levels of most trace elements and are typically more susceptible to mineral deficiencies than dairy cattle. With these unique requirements in mind, Agvance has created a special blend of essential trace elements including vitamin D that is designed to address these needs, while minimising the stresses placed on these high performing animals. The Metabolizer Goat trace mineral blend delivers specific trace elements as pure mineral chelates - minerals tied to amino acids in order to ensure maximum uptake while eliminating the risk of mineral antagonism within the rumen. Minerals in this form are absorbed directly to the cell, via small intestine absorption channels. Inorganic forms of the same mineral, on the other hand, tend to initially load the liver, kidney and spleen, and are then largely eliminated through the body’s natural excretion systems. Metabolizer Goat is a totally soluble blend which can be fed in a number of ways. These minerals can be combined with macro elements such as magnesium and salt as part of a premix mineral formulation, combined into feed pallets or meals, or can be dosed directly into drinking water using a dosing pump.

CUSTOMIZER BLENDS These blends are custom built by your vet or nutritionist using our proprietary Customizer program. Customizer allows your vet or nutritionist to build a mineral dosing plan based around the diet, while also taking into account the seasonal demands, and known herd deficiencies based on blood and liver tests. Customizer formulated blends are cost effective,

24

can be changed frequently to suit diet changes, and can be updated at any stage to address any deficiency that may arise during the season.

CUSTOMIZER TRANSITION PREMIXES These are specialised negative DCAD, anionic salt based blends that can be mixed with silages or meals and fed during the pre-kidding period. These blends are built in such a way as to deliver the ideal DCAD level hence the formulation will be very much based on the diet at the time. The Customizer formulation program is the ideal tool to calculate such requirements. These negative DCAD salts are designed to fire up the parathyroid gland in order to produce hormones that increase absorption of calcium, while at the same time preparing the rumen for the rigors of early lactation. Note, there is some evidence that negative DCAD salts should not be fed to does coming into their first lactation. Negative DCAD salts should only be fed pre-lactation, never during lactation.

CUSTOMIZER LACTATION PREMIXES Lactation premixes combine all the required macro and trace elements required by your lactating does in one single easy to use formulation. These blends combine salts such as magnesium oxide, salt, lime flour, gypsum, trace minerals, even toxin binders if required. Again, these blends take in diet, seasonal demand, and known deficiencies, in order to create the perfect most cost effective blend for your goats. These blends can then be changed and updated as the season progresses, so that regardless of the ratio of feed, or production level at the time, your goats always receive optimum mineral supplementation.

Soil and Plant BROOKSIDE SOIL TESTING Agvance is registered as a consultancy recognized by Brookside Laboratories. We have been offering balanced fertiliser advice using Brookside soil testing for over 15 years. Brooksides S007 test offers a test that has been built specifically for New Zealand soils. This test offers a very complete soil profile that with the help of one of our consultants will identify any deficiencies. EUROFINS PLANT PROFILE A complete plant analysis, can be either carried out as a mixed herbage or clover only sample. This test is very helpful in combination with the soil test in determining exactly what is happening in your soil. If a mixed herbage sample is taken some data can also be used as part of a feed balancing program.

Fertiliser Recommendation Services CONVENTIONALLY APPLIED FERTILISERS Agvance consultants can help you balance your soil and plants. By applying soil and plant data we can make balanced fertiliser recommendations for any soil type, taking into consideration the specific requirements of any farming type, whether it be, dairy, sheep and beef, or cropping. We can advise you on which fertilisers and minerals are compatible, when blended together and which specific minerals and forms of minerals are best used on which crops. FINE PARTICLE FERTILISER APPLICATION Agvance has over the years specialised in making recommendations specific to fine particle type fertiliser applications. These fertiliser blends can in most cases be sourced from existing fertiliser companies, however certain products are more suited to fine particle application than others. Agvance consultants can advise you on which products can be used most cost effectively and with the least spreading and blending complications, given the type of application system being used. We have over the years worked with many helicopter operations, ground spread truck operations, and tractor towed sprayers such as “Tow & Fert spreaders.

Biotrace Organic

Contains a blend of gibberellic acid at full recommended rate as well as the same range of trace elements contained in Biotrace GA. Biotrace Organic, additional to the minerals contained in Biotrace GA, also supplies highly concentrated seaweed extract (Genus: Ascophyllium Nodosom), and fulvic acid, for additional soil and plant health.

Biotrace GA

Contains a blend of gibberellic acid at full recommended rate, as well as a range of trace elements that will underpin the growth and health of pasture. This blend allows the spraying of both gibberellic acid and trace elements in one single application.

Active Bio-Gib®

Of course, Agvance also offers straight 90% gibberellic acid if you want only the raw product. This product comes in 1-kilogram screw top plastic bottles. Each pack covers 111 hectares at full application rate.

Agvance’s *Active Bio-Gib® is a 90% active gibberellic acid in easy-to-use soluble powder form, which has been enhanced with highly soluble trace elements, and effective natural plant growth stimulants** to produce the Biotrace range. Made from a careful blend of gibberellic acid, trace elements, fulvic acid and seaweed extracts, the key benefits of the Agvance Biotrace range include:

INCREASED PASTURE GROWTH RATES

RAPID PASTURE RESPONSE REDUCES N LOSSES

KEY BENEFITS

BIOTRACE RANGE

Sustainable, environmentally friendlier alternative to straight N applications Biotrace ingredients are compatible with gibberellic acid, and therefore won’t compromise the hormone’s stability and effectiveness Combining GA together with N in autumn, late winter and early spring increases pasture production.

Agvance’s Active Bio-Gib® is a fully registered gibberellic acid (GA) product blend that won’t decompose (unlike urea mixes which will break down the gibberellic acid unless spread quickly).

Gibberellic acid with stamina A number of New Zealand and overseas studies in recent years confirm that gains in plant growth can be achieved through strategic use of gibberellic acid, which is a naturally occurring plant growth hormone found in all plants.

What is Biotrace?

Using the knowledge and experience gained from working within the fertiliser and animal health industries for more than 30 years, Agvance has developed a GA based product range designed to supply key trace elements in a readily soluble form, along with other products that offer an even wider range of plant growth hormones. Designed to further enhance pasture growth, while maintaining plant health and the health of animals grazing the pasture, the Agvance Biotrace range is a step up in performance and sustainability for pasture management.

Strategic use of GA instead of N to increase pasture growth in the shoulders of the season may present an opportunity to reduce N use without compromising pasture production. – Racheal Bryant, Faculty of Agriculture and Life Science, Lincoln University: To give or not to gibe? TESTING

THOROUGH REPORTING

SOIL & HERBAGE

EASY

MONITORING

ENSURES SUSTAINABLE PRODUCTION

“The soil is the ‘creative material’ of most of the basic needs of life. Creation starts with a handful of dust.” Dr William A Albrecht.

SAMPLING Sampling involves meeting with the consultant and discussing where the tests should be taken. The following points should be considered: 1. Various fertility zones, e.g. day & night paddocks, stock camp areas etc…

MONITORING

2. Different soil types, e.g. pumice, clay, ash etc…. will always require a different approach to fertility management.

One of the main advantages achieved through soil testing is the ability to monitor the status of each area, this will ensure that sustainable production is maintained while capital invested in fertiliser achieves a return.

3. Diverse methods of farming e.g. is the area under intense dairy, running dairy replacements or some other form of set stocked regime i.e. beef or sheep.

Running an efficient soil and herbage testing program on a bi-annual basis can be one of the most important measures used to achieve this.

4. Easy and accurate identification of the area for future testing and monitoring. REPORTING Once soil tests are completed and analysis reports received, we then build a complete report for each area, highlighting both deficiencies and excesses that will be limiting performance. We will then put together a recommendation based on the most suitable blend of minerals and fertilisers in order to achieve the required soil balance at the best possible price. APPLICATION OPTIONS

28

Advice can also be sought on different forms of nutrient application that may further maximise nutrient uptake while reducing losses to the environment.

KEY BENEFITS

SOIL & HERBAGE

Soil Testing to achieve optimum soil nutrient balance A number of tests are available, our preference being the Brookside Soil Analysis. Brookside is a laboratory first setup by the renowned soil scientist William A. Albrecht. While over time they have introduced new cutting edge systems in the extraction of soil minerals and testing samples, their testing has always been strongly directed towards achieving the soil nutrient balances that Albrecht promoted through his research. • Exchange Capacity The ability of the soil to hold and exchange nutrient. • pH Soil acidity • Organic Matter Sustains the life and structure of the soil. • Soluble Sulphur Plant available sulphur which is important for soil bacteria, nitrogen utilization and protein formation in the plant, as well as stabilizing soil pH levels and ensuring plant nutrient availability. • Merlich 111 Available phosphorous test which mimics the way bacteria make phosphorous available to plants. • Bray 11 A slightly stronger acid extraction that measures phosphorous which becomes available to the plant over time.

• Olsen P A test that uses a bicarbonate of soda extractant that is automatically used in soils that have a pH in excess of 7.0 pH. • Calcium, Magnesium, Potassium, Sodium & Aluminium extraction These are the major positively charged elements within the soil. The test extracts these minerals and then measures them in parts per million. This allows the consultant to compare extraction values against the exchange capacity of the soil and decide if each level is adequate for plant growth and soil structure maintenance. • Base Saturation Percent Test shows the percentage taken up by each one of these positively charged elements on the plant colloid. The correct percentage ratios for each element is very important in maintaining plant nutrition, ensuring correct soil structure and allowing the soil to breath and drain correctly. Incorrect ratios can lead to soil compaction or flocculation. • Trace Elements Boron, Iron, Manganese, Copper & Zinc. These are the most important trace elements for the growth of plants. Various deficiencies can occur – a lack of iron is not generally a problem in New Zealand soils whereas a deficiency in Boron, Copper, Zinc and occasionally Manganese, can be. These elements are critical to good animal health and they affect the plants ability to uptake and utilize them.

SEAWEED EXTRACT

Seaweed extract is ideal for any product in the biotrace range HISTORY OF SEAWEED Long before commercial fertilizers were even thought of, farmers as early as 4000 BC, who owned land with access to the coast, were applying seaweed to the land to grow crops. As early as the 17th century farmers in Scotland recorded the fact that with an adequate application of seaweed, two crops of oats could be taken off the same land in successive years without crop rotation. For over a century Irish sharecroppers dug trenches in which seaweed was laid along with the potato seed to ensure excellent yields, in fact no other form of fertilizer was used.

SEAWEED’S POTENTIAL Currently, plant scientists have begun to realise the full potential of seaweed as a fertilizer and have described its potential as follows: “ a power pack of plant growth hormones and nutrients,” and “probably the most densely packed soil addendum known to man” among other statements. Seaweed contains over 60 macro and trace minerals, 12 vitamins, 21 amino acids and enzymes. It is also heavily loaded with alginates and a number of natural plant growth hormones in the form of giberrellins, auxins and cytokonins. Alginates are complex carbohydrate based compounds known to be powerful natural mineral chelators that when incorporated into fertilizers do a number of things in the soil. They improve soil structure, increase the water holding ability of the soil, as well as optimizing mineral availability to plants through natural chelation (the process of bonding a mineral to a another compound allowing absorption directly to plant cell).

NUTRIENT ABSORPTION Land dwelling plants draw most of their nutrient from the soil through the root membrane, with only a small amount of nutrient being absorbed directly through the leaf. Seaweed, however, is quite different; the roots are primarily only there to anchor the plant to the seabed, whilst the nutrients are then absorbed from the seawater in elemental form. These nutrients are absorbed directly into the plant tissue where they are chelated and stored in an organic bio-available form, a form readily taken up by all classes of land dwelling plants.

ASCOCOOL IS A CONCENTRATED SEAWEED BASED TONIC FOR CATTLE AND GOATS ‘helping them handle the heat’ ASCOCOOL is supplied in a dry, soluble, crystalline form. Using a special vacuum evaporation system, the product is gradually dried down at a low temperature. This process guarantees that all the characteristics that make seaweed such a unique animal health tonic are effectively locked into the end product. Ascocool is made from pure North Atlantic brown seaweed (Ascophyllum Nodosum) grown slowly in the nutrient rich frigid waters of the North Atlantic, ensuring an end product power packed with high levels of nutrient. More peer reviewed trial work has been carried out on this genus of seaweed than any other in the world. Trial work with dairy cows has shown that this particular seaweed genus (Ascophyllum Nodosum) can: • Supply a range of unique carbohydrates called poly and mono-saccharides. These substances when introduced into the digestive system have the potential to act as powerful prebiotics and create a better environment for more efficient bacterial breakdown of feed. (Prebiotics from Marine Macro Algae for Human and Animal Health Applications - L. O’Sullivan et al) • Binds certain naturally occurring toxins that build up in grasses under environmental stress, causing heat stress and problems in the central nervous system. Toxins are also formed when moulds are present in stored feed. This feed when fed to cattle can reduce production or cause other more serious health effects. (Effect of Ascophyllum Nodosum on heat stress in dairy cows. L.B. Pompeu et al) • Shown to increase immunity. • Contains a full spectrum of amino acids.

SEAWEED EXTRACT (PURE ASCOPHYLLUM NODOSUM)

Ascocool is very easy to use. The product comes in a fine, free flowing highly concentrated crystalline form, that can be blended directly into feeds or when added to water can be dosed into the drinking water, it is instantly soluble. *

Our seaweed is a highly concentrated extract of the finest quality Atlantic Brown Seaweed also known as Ascophyllum Nodosum. We source seaweed harvested from off the coast of Iceland, in these frigid waters it takes over 20 years for this type of seaweed to reach full maturity. Owing to the very long growth cycle this seaweed cultivar is literally power packed with nutrients and natural plant growth hormones.

COST EFFECTIVE

SEAWEED’S POTENTIAL

When fed at normal daily supplementation rates, Ascocool costs less than a cent per dose. When fed at peak dose rates, 2 cents per dose. This is a fraction of the cost of other similar products on the New Zealand market.

Seaweed contains over 60 macro and trace minerals, 12 vitamins, 21 amino acids and enzymes. It is also heavily loaded with alginates as well as amino acids. Alginates are complex carbohydrate based compounds known to be powerful natural mineral chelators that when incorporated into the diet can increase availability.

Premix Feed Additives The Customizer premix module is designed to integrate with the dynamic feeding module can be used for making complete feed premix formulations, these can blended to specifically target mineral needs around certain crops, such as fodder beet, brassicas etc. Other blends will target specific types of silage such as maize, these blends will often be formulated based on a blend of a number of feed types, e.g. maize silage, pasture, PKE, etc. and adjusted accordingly. The old saying ‘one size fits all’ certainly does not apply to dairy feed supplements where major gains in animal performance, health, and cost effectiveness, can be gained by identifying specific requirements and addressing them. MAIZE SILAGE BALANCERS The composition of these blends can vary to a large extent depending on the quantity of maize being fed in ratio to pasture. Often other additives such as PKE, crop feeds, or even grain based concentrates may be added to the diet, each time another feed is added to the blend, the composition of the premix needs to change. This more scientific approach leads to an ideal balance of nutrients, often substantial cost savings can be made while more effectively addressing the requirement. CROP BALANCERS Specific crops, such as kale, fodder beet, and cereals, raise unique mineral supplementation requirements. In many cases these premix balancers also need to be blended to cater to a number of challenging feed environments, such as in paddock feeding situations where cattle are strip grazing crops during winter, or added to other supplemental feeds being fed alongside the crop. Again each feeding situation is different and will require a different approach and formulation to suit. Customizer gives your vet or nutritionist the tools to design cost effective customised premixes for every situation. TRANSITION BLENDS Customizer is the ideal tool when it comes to building anionic salt (negative DCAD) transition blends, these blends

36

will insure the causes of metabolic disease are treated before they occur and that your cows calve and then launch into lactation without these energy sapping problems. Customizer now incorporates a feed library that will calculate the mineral requirement as well as calculate the DCAD insuring that optimum anionic corrective formulations can be developed in all feeding situations. LACTATION BLENDS The Customizer system gives your vet the tools he needs to target the ideal positive DCAD for lactating dairy cows, while also calculating the magnesium, calcium, sodium, phosphorous, required during the lactation period, he can then also add trace minerals to requirement, along with such options as monensin, rumen buffers, toxin binders etc. These blends are often no more expensive (like for like) than the cheap standard blends available through farm merchandising stores, that can never be made to match true requirement levels. The difference being that these blends can be changed, as often as fortnightly or monthly these formulations can be updated, quickly and simply within the Customizer program to better reflect requirements around changing feed ratios and seasonal requirements of the herd.

The term transition covers the period right at the end of gestation, this is the period where a cow transitions from being a dry cow on low feed levels, giving birth, lactation, and higher feeding levels. The transition period ideally should cover the period from 3 – 4 weeks prior to calving. Although the cow is not producing it could be argued that this is the most critical period in the entire season. Correctly transitioning a dairy cow will insure, a

CALCIUM EXCRETION

better functioning rumen in early lactation, higher levels of available energy early in lactation. Effective transitioning will insure that the rumen is gradually brought back up to full function and that levels of calcium will be more effectively maintained and mobilized within the body. These factors combine to reduce the incidence of almost every animal disease experienced in early lactation, right through to better levels of conception later in the spring.

STEPS TO EFFECTIVE TRANSITIONING 1. Effective transitioning is accomplished by increased feed, along with gradually increased energy in the diet. Result: Rumen function is gradually increased during this period. 2. Calcium, magnesium, phosphorous, chloride and sulphur, along with key trace elements are added to the diet in the correct ratios. Result: Optimum levels of these minerals insure good levels are maintained at this critical time where requirements are increasing. 3. These mineral salts are added in only negative DCAD form. Result: The parathyroid gland is stimulated to produce hormones that allow for better absorption and better mobilization of calcium, at the same time also releasing more vitamin D from the liver. There is also some evidence to suggest that this process along with increasing energy levels during this period stimulates the growth of rumen papillae. Increased rumen function leads to a better flow of energy from the rumen during early lactation, compare this to the energy slump experienced by most dairy cows in early lactation. A good reason to transition cows well.

Maintains mineral balance during maize feeding Maize silage is an excellent feed source, supplying good levels of energy, fibre and protein; however, it lacks a number of essential minerals such as Calcium, Sodium, Phosphorus & Magnesium. These minerals are necessary to maintain overall mineral balance and optimum health in the dairy herd when feeding maize silage as part of the diet. Mega-Maize is a premium maize balancer custom formulated to balance potential deficiencies when maize is fed as a portion of the diet. In most cases, a standard Solutrace product is used as the base of the trace element portion of the blend or we can further customise this appropriately to

herds and soil conditions. Genuine branded Causmag providing higher magnesium oxide availability is used. Feed additives such as Bovatec® and Rumensin® can be effectively incorporated.

Selenium, aiding in the maintenance of blood selenium levels going into the calving period Chromium, aiding in energy metabolism by helping the efficiently use the energy she is eating to increase her body condition

Feeding cattle on fodder beet raises a number of mineral issues requiring a more specialised blend. This blend supplies levels of phosphate and calcium specifically required by cattle grazing this crop, in addition to a balanced organically based trace element blend.

DAILY DOSE On-farm trials have shown cows will settle on about a 50gm/cow/day dose rate over a period of 3-4 days. This intake rate can vary, based on the weather at the time, cold and wet conditions can see a 20-40% increase and warmer dry weather can see a 20-40% decrease.

DOSING INSTRUCTIONS To be fed in one 100lt container per 100 cows (use 200 ltr drums, cut in half). This container should have holes drilled in the bottom so water does not accumulate. The product should be topped up in these containers every 1-2 days.

LIVER STRESS AND LIVER DISEASE IN RUMINANTS There are many daily stresses on a cow’s liver. Such stresses often originate naturally in a cow’s diet, these can come from the grass, conserved feeds such as silage, and even high energy grain (meal) feeds. Many of these feeds will contain toxins such as, ergot toxins, mycotoxins, aflatoxins, and of course sporisdesmin toxin (facial eczema toxin). All of these toxins can place a heavy strain on the liver even when good treatment systems are in place, in extreme cases the end result can be total liver failure. Liverade is a combination of key minerals, vitamins, amino acids, and herbs, all designed to keep the liver strong and aid in cell regeneration.

ROBUST NATURE OF THE LIVER The liver is the largest organ in the body, and as such performs a large number of vital functions. The liver is also the only organ that has the ability to rapidly rebuild damaged cells. Providing the affected animal is given good nutritional support, the liver has an amazing capacity to rebuild damaged tissue, which can happen rapidly and very efficiently. A healthy liver will regenerate all cells over a 200 day period, a liver under stress can regenerate cells at a much faster rate

Dog Nutritional Supplement H E A LT H Y A N D N AT U R A L 48

Healthy joints Better overall health Efficient energy utilization

Canine AminoBoost is a dog nutritional supplement designed to balance the diet of any dog currently receiving the modern western dog diet. This includes the majority of dogs that are eating pre-formulated dog food regardless of its perceived quality.

Along with humans, our modern day dogs often receive a diet that is not perfectly suited to a digestive system primarily built to digest meat, bone, marrow and organ meat. Such a diet is a diet of convenience and ease, largely made up of grain based carbohydrates supplying rapid energy but few of the essential amino acids the dog would naturally derive from its more primitive natural diet. This modern diet, if incorrectly balanced leaves our dogs subject to many of the same deficiency related human diseases such as obesity, cancer, diabetes, bone fractures, arthritis, and degeneration of bone joints. Historically, dogs were working farm animals where their energy utilization was much higher or they resided in the wild where they would need to hunt for wild game, (in the case of wolves) living on meat, bone and organ meat. Food could be scarce and survival was tough, however, wild dogs would obtain suitable complex sources of energy from the fat and protein derived from animal carcasses. These energy sources from carnivorous based diets required gradual digestion and supplied energy over longer periods of time. Although not abundant in quantity, and taking more energy to obtain, this diet provided the perfect balance of minerals, vitamins, and amino acids to keep the animal in peak health and fitness. Occasionally, these dogs would eat a small amount of green material such as grass to aid digestion, but would never eat seeds or grains.

In contrast, today our dogs’ diets differ considerably as they have become city dwellers and live predominantly passive lives. Along with this change in lifestyle, an entire industry catering to their needs has developed. Protein and saturated fat sources have been substituted with readily digestible high energy carbohydrates derived mainly from grains. Commercial dog food formulation 1. Stability - a food is unsuitable if it begins to go mouldy or rotten in the bag. 2. Convenience – most feeds are now dry feeds because these are cleaner and easier to store and feed out. 3. Cost versus profit – meat is expensive to include - even waste cuts and offal have supply limitations. Many canned and refrigerated dog foods are often largely cereal based. These three factors make cereal based diets a much more commercially attractive proposition. Ultimately, a well-balanced modern dog food could lead to animal obesity and fall short nutritionally. Canine Boost is designed to substitute for dietary deficiencies, while adding key minerals, amino acids, and vitamins that directly target nutritionally induced diseases. This blend is designed to maintain strong bones, healthy joints and organs, optimum energy utilization, while also protecting against the myriad of diseases common to our modern pets.
