TOURISM CORNER TDC creates link between People, Productivity and Sustainability one ‘STEP’ at a time The Tourism Development Company Limited (TDC), through the Caribbean Small Tourism Enterprises Project (STEP) unit, will be hosting the People, Productivity and Sustainability Symposium titled “Tourism is My Business” on Wednesday 27th July, 2016 from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm at the Hyatt Regency Trinidad. As leaders of the industry in the public sector, the Ministry of Tourism and the Tourism Development Company Limited (TDC) are committed to promoting entrepreneurship in the tourism sector while developing individuals who adopt an entrepreneurial mind-set and are drawn to opportunities, innovation and new value creation. Using a combination of lectures and panel discussions, the Symposium is intended to enhance skill sets as well as boost and encourage immediate implementation in business operations. A dynamic group of speakers from The Bahamas, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago will form the line-up of presenters who would engage over 150 local tourism stakeholders. Increased productivity of small tourism enterprises is critical to the survival and profitability of the tourism sector. Moreover, creating an entrepreneurial culture in the minds of our tourism operators both young and old will foster innovation, global competitiveness, and sustainability in the tourism industry. Since 2007, The Caribbean Small Tourism Enterprises Project (STEP), a regional initiative of the Organization of American States (OAS) has been in operation in Trinidad and Tobago, under the Tourism Development Company as one of its flagship programmes. Targeted at assisting small tourism operators to enhance their competitiveness, profitability and sustainability, STEP has developed several key programmes to foster a spirit of entrepreneurship among tourism practitioners.
