TRINIDAD & TOBAGO
TOURISM CORNER Recognising STAR Service How would visitors remember the service they receive in Trinidad and Tobago? In an industry where product offerings are highly competitive, the game changer is often service. The type of service we provide to our visitors influences their perception of T&T’s brand as much as the brand of the business that provided the service. These experiences can therefore be run-of-the-mill, magical or miserable. Therefore, it is important that our visitors’ experience with our tourism professionals and organizations consistently meet or exceed their expectations as this has far-reaching consequences for our destination as a whole. Excellent service increases the likelihood of visitor referrals to friends and family as well as their repeat visits, which benefit us socio-economically in many ways, including increased revenue, employment, GDP growth and investment in the sector. Launched on August 1st 2016, the Tourism Development Company’s STAR Hashtag Campaign is currently in full swing until October 31st, 2016. The campaign is designed to encourage and reward customer service excellence within the tourism sector. As such, we have been asking customers to be on the lookout for great service from professionals employed in the hospitality, food and beverage and retail sectors as well as at our airports, tourist transportation, ferry and water taxi services. The hashtag campaign’s rules require that customers take a selfie with the tourism professional whom delivered exceptional service and post it to their Facebook or Instagram accounts using the hashtag #tntisstarservice, along with the service professional’s name, place of employment and a brief description of the STAR service received. Participants can invite their friends to vote for their entry on the #tntisstarservice app on the Islands of Trinidad and Tobago Facebook page. The app automatically imports photos that have the hashtag #tntisstarservice. Two winners will be chosen each month based on an in-app voting system and review by the TDC. The winning tourism service professional and his/her nominator will EACH receive TT$1000.00 in prizes. Full details on the campaign are available on the Islands of Trinidad and Tobago Facebook page. Be our eyes and ears by helping us recognise the STAR service we want our visitors to experience when they visit our shores.
