Welcome home.
GouldAcademy Alumni Weekend
Friday, September 27 Sunday, September 29, 2013 39 Church Street • Bethel, Maine www.gouldacademy.org
Dear Alumni, As Head of School, there are moments throughout the year that bring a quick broad smile to my face: watching new students arrive for the first time on campus, the pride in a new graduate’s eyes, and welcoming alumni back to Gould. Watching folks stroll through hallways, knock on old dorm room doors, and hug former teachers and classmates is an energizing experience. It reminds us all why we work at Gould. I can see the memories, some long dormant, others vibrant and vivid, bubble up as alumni enter an old classroom, or step onto a playing field, or maybe even visit the site of some past mischief. Smiles, laughter, and tears (but mostly smiles and laughter) are all on order during Alumni Weekend. I hope to welcome you all back for Alumni Weekend this year on September 27-29. Whether you were on campus last week, or last century; whether you graduated in 2013 or 1933; you all share a singular experience, the Gould experience, and I hope that you get a chance to share that with hundreds of your fellow alumni this fall. I look forward to welcoming you back home. Sincerely,
Matt Ruby

A Message From James Bennett ‘61, Alumni Board President I hope you have all set aside the weekend of September 27-29, and will be attending Alumni Weekend at Gould. This is the perfect opportunity to reconnect with classmates and old friends, and to see what is happening on our beautiful campus. We look forward to welcoming our reunion classes, and a special welcome is extended to the class of 1963 on the occasion of their 50th reunion. Gould is a beautiful supportive place, with an outstanding faculty and student body, which contributes to an atmosphere for learning and allows students to develop to their full potential. New educational practices like digital learning are bringing master teaching to Gould via the internet. New York’s famous Manhattan
School of Music is offering private lessons to Gould students. We are now bringing the city to Gould, but NOT interfering with the beauty that surrounds us everyday. I encourage you to attend as many events as possible. There are a great variety of events planned: great dining at Ordway Hall, wine and cheese in the tent, the Funky Red Barn late evening bash, class events on and off campus, fireworks, and serious events like the reading of the memorial tributes to classmates and the parade of classes. Remember our bodies are a bit older, but we are still young. Recapture that long ago feeling of youth and join us for Alumni Weekend this September.
