LOGO RATIONALE

â&#x20AC;&#x153;Landscape architecture is the design of outdoor areas, landmarks, and structures to achieve environmental, social-behavioural, or aesthetic outcomes. It involves the systematic investigation of existing social, ecological, and soil conditions and processes in the landscape, and the design of interventions that will produce the desired outcome.â&#x20AC;?- Wikipedia. What is landscape architecture to me? Landscape Architecture is a multi disciplinary field, it does not limit only to planting design or aesthetics. We as landscape architects play a vital role in todayâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s society striving to address natural calamities due to climate change. When designing we always think about positive outcome which helps the environment, we contribute. Designing includes study of plant selection, soil data, contours, storm water management and restoration. Combining all the aspects we try to achieve a design which is also aesthetically pleasing. Landscape architects have a significant impact on communities and quality of life. Why the logo design? I wanted my portfolio to be unique from others. It is a competitive field, where I want to stand apart from regulars. The idea of designing a logo is to explain my passion and fascination towards the profession.

The logo speaks about the versatility of the profession. We, landscape architects design anything between mountains and oceans (boundary), flat lands to terrains. URBAN EVENT POP UP Every month on the second Friday, Norman has an event called â&#x20AC;&#x2DC;Art Walkâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; where musician, singers, food trucks, sellers come together as an event. On this day everyone from Norman attends the event to enjoy local music, art and food. To cater the event main street is closed and it is all pedestrian friendly. But there is not any place for pedestrians/audience to sit and enjoy. To address this issue, I have developed an empty space into a semi open gathering space where people can sit, enjoy music and food. I have proposed movable furniture in the area so that it can be used regularly by locals during their lunch or break time.

Proposed area

Intent of this project is to design an urban space where users can have access any time for a community event or use it as a gathering space during public events. A pergola is incorporated into the space as a semi shade structure, it is designed in a way to cater climber plants on top and wooden louvres on sides which acts as shading devices during hot sunny days. Louvres are strategically placed in way that they block evening sun during summers yet allowing light in the space. The louvres also act as partitions, providing semi privacy. Bamboo plants are proposed on side planter boxes which are easy to grow and have less maintenance also acts as screens.

KOREAN WAR MEMORIAL Korean War Memorial is a challenging project. I needed to design a memorial park on an existing traffic island in Oklahoma City. War veterans had an idea of constructing an obelisk in park, the main interest. To complement the obelisk I designed landscape by using native plants which are low maintenance and thrive under full sun.

I designed the park in a way that it enhances the obelisk giving it first priority. Second priority is given to access route for pedestrians and designed seating along the park where they can rest for a while enjoying the shade. The singular seating units blend into design making it cohesive. Planter boxes are incorporated into seating unit which makes it unique, providing seating and shade at same time.

Plant selection: For planting design I have used all native plants in Oklahoma as they thrive in the region with minimum maintenance.

WINANS PARK Winans park is located in Oklahoma City next to a historic neighborhood, Heritage Hills. During the community meeting with the locals, they expressed the need for a playground/park where their kids and families could go for recreation. But the allocated park area for the neighborhood is away from houses and surrounded by a main road. The challenge is to provide a safe route to park. With this in mind I studied the area and proposed a street crossing which would be the safest amongst other access. The park is designed in way it supports ecology and helps the environment. LANDSCAPE DESIGN - RACHOFSKY HOUSE

The building was designed for Mr. Rachofsky as a single bedroom house; it is also an art gallery to display his works. The building is well articulated according to his lifestyle and need, but the potential land within the site has been deserted with just plain grass bed without any plant materials. I found it challenging to design the outdoor space and give some seasonal and cultural interest; my main motto was to do a planting design with trees which have bark, color and seasonal interest. All the trees were planted with respect to column structure of the building which is 11â&#x20AC;&#x2122; apart; I achieved a row of trees along the site which do not disturb the elegance of the building and added more beauty to it. The second challenge is to design a pollinator friendly garden which adds more color and seasonal interest to the building and site. Pollinator gardens support and maintain pollinators by supplying food in the form of pollen and nectar, pollinators are key to reproduction of plants in our global landscape. This made me do some addition to my previous design which can benefit the environment and user; I looked for perennials which attract bees, butterflies and humming birds to incorporate into my design. The backyard in the site is designed as a perennial garden which has different seasonal interest so the backyard is never boring; it has a flower interest throughout the year. Beneath peach trees in the front yard a set of shade tolerant perennials are planted in rows which help peach trees to pollinate during bloom time, it also adds interest to the yard with different colors in different seasons.

Keeping the hardiness zone in mind I have selected the plant palette which can sustain in harsh conditions and providing bloom and texture interests. COMMUNITY RAIN GARDEN The intent of this project is to address water stagnation issue in the apartment complex where I live. During rainfall some places are wet for few days holding water, because they are in lowest contour. After analyzing site, I have found out two main spots where all the water gets pooled. These areas are close to porchâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s for few houses. People do not like when there is stagnant water near their house due to mosquito and other problems. The identified two spots will be rain garden ponds with native plants which thrive in wet conditions. Ponds will have two levels, shallow and deep area. Plants are selected meticulously which get benefited with placement, while adding aesthetic and bloom interests to users. Since the garden will be enjoyed by community, it will be maintained by them as well.

URBAN PARKS - OKLAHOMA CITY ANALYZING PARKS NEAR DOWNTOWN OKLAHOMA CITY Parks are a necessity in a city, they are the places for recreation and leisure. As a person living in an urban environment I see parks as place of solace. When looking at downtown Oklahoma City, there are a few parks in downtown. For a city having 643,648 population the parks present are not sufficient. For my graduate project in Landscape Architecture, I want to design a park that acts as an access route also featuring recreational aspects of a park. With this interest in mind, I have studied downtown Oklahoma City to understand better and select an area to design the park.

Parks are not just grass beds with plants and trees. Each park has itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s own character and quarters a specific interest. For example some parks have some kind of water feature to enhance userâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s experience during their visit. The city of Wewoka needed work on pedestrian accessibility and making streets safe for walking. We focussed on West 10th Street; where school children access everyday as a primary route to school and walk to cafeteria during lunch. We identified three crucial intersections where design is required. Proposed curb bump outs, repairing sidewalks and painting intersections. For access route to cafeteria I have proposed a painted plaza on W 10th Street which acts as a visual barrier for people driving by. Painting is a lighter, quicker and cheaper option to make the difference.

VINITA, OK Vinita needed some design solutions to make its downtown safe and accessible. The main concern is their main street is an access route to semi trucks all day. People wanted a safe place to walk around downtown to enjoy nightlife. To address this issue I have proposed a breezeway (pedestrian access route) which connects to public library with museum and entertainment complex. The proposed entertainment complex will host outdoor activities and food trucks. The breezeway is designed to have art installations and benches throughout, which makes it interesting and fun to walk. In July 2018, Vinita received a $25,000 grant from AARP Community Challenge focused on the quickaction public space in a downtown alley.

To analyze and develop a design solution I made a model in sketchup to understand the area in a three dimensional way which can be manipulated according to will. After several brainstorm sessions we (IQC Team) decided to connect this alley way to the entertainment complex. ARCHITECTURE THESIS 2015, INDIA I have designed studio apartments as an undergraduate project in architecture. India is a country booming with software development. Yet there are a very little number of efficient apartments for software professionals. From a survey I conducted resulted that majority of them needed efficient/studio apartments, since they spend less time at home. With this data I went ahead and designed studio apartments which consist of three type living. The apartment complex also has amenities like swimming pool, courtyard, landscape, home theatre and other recreational elements.

The two buildings have typical floor plans. They are named ‘AYAAN and ‘ANVI’. AYAAN meaning first ray of sun, ANVI meaning goddess of nature. Why these names? Ayaan opens its balcony to the east where the ocean is, getting that morning ray of sun first. Anvi looks at the mountains which have lush-full greenery.
