Karl Maughan is an artist who is dedicated to his chosen subject matter—the garden. Just as a garden is carefully cultivated, so does Maughan cultivate his paintings. Working from photographs, he creates compositions that balance familiarity with an otherworldly transcendence. His latest works offer bolder, looser brushstrokes as he applies rich colours in impasto style.
