What is it?
The Make the Switch project was designed to help kick-start a digital culture within McKesson. The name Make the Switch signifies the change involved in moving from traditional, manual processes to more efficient, digital systems and tools.
The 'Digital Hero' initiative was created to upskill colleagues in using the digital tools available to them through peer assisted learning. Throughout 2018 multiple sessions on a range of digital skills from Excel to Slack were ran with over 200 colleagues receiving training. The sessions were over subscribed with requests for additional Excel and Digital Marketing sessions still outstanding.
With the implementation of office 365 and the burning platform for change in McKesson UK, the project team have decided that the next stage of Make the Switch needs to be a more focussed and accelerated attempt at continuing this upskilling to affect a culture change.
Our previous Digital Heroes have left a great legacy for the Make the Switch project, but there is still work to be done to create a truly digital culture at McKesson UK.
That's where you come in.
The Switch programme is designed to make use of talented, motivated colleagues to upskill their colleagues through peer assisted learning techniques, and affect a digital culture change. The programme will also provide them with the opportunity to gain project management skills on a cross functional project.
The ‘Switch’ objectives - Creating a digital culture
1. Affect a digital culture change across your department in McKesson UK
4. Obtain stakeholder ‘buy in’ for next cohort of talent
2. Create a network of digital experts and enable a forum for colleagues to bring new digital ideas / solutions to the ‘business’ and colleagues
3. To maintain engagement with McKesson AG colleagues, sharing learnings and progress
Programme Plan
The Make the Switch development programme lasts around six months. Each cohort must be able to demonstrate that they have positively contributed to creating a more digitally savvy culture. As a minimum they will be required to learn a new digital skill or become proficient in a particular tool and then share that knowledge with colleagues.
Timeline of activities
The six month programme can be summarised by four main phases:
• Registration: Colleagues who are recognised as talent and request development are nominated by their FD
• Learn a skill: The newly recruited Digital Heroes learn a new digital skill or become proficient in a digital tool
• Teach a skill: Using their new skills, the Digital Heroes will be required to arrange and deliver at least three training sessions, or digital alternatives for colleagues
• Evaluation and final report: In order to graduate, each Digital Hero will be required to demonstrate how their chosen digital skill or tool and upskilling sessions has contributed to creating a digital culture at McKesson UK. Findings will be presented to the Exec sponsor.
It is expected that the cohort of new Digital Heroes will work together collaboratively and support each other throughout the programme.
Requirements of participants
As the programme supports a project which is directly contributory to the business priority of digitalising the business, it is important that participants are committed to the programme, giving the necessary time to complete the objectives.
