OUR NAME

At Northwestern Polytechnic, our core purpose is to spark and empower success. As part of the landscape in northwestern Alberta for more than half a century, we have watched, contributed, and been inspired by the individual and collective talent in our midst. We are extremely proud to evolve with our community, in order to deliver career-focused education with practical connections at every step.

OUR CREST

The official crest of Northwestern Polytechnic is designed to represent the concept of higher learning in the Peace Region and incorporates the distinctive Dunvegan bridge with an open book. The slogan “per gradus ad maius” translated to “steps to the greater”.

The Crest is the formal academic symbol of the institution. While it is not used in everyday branding, it is commonly used on celebratory or official documents, such as certificates, special event programs, Board of Governors material, and in the Academic Calendar.

LOVE must be unconditional; to know love is to know peace. To feel true love is to know the Creator. Love given to the Creator is expressed through love of oneself, and it is understood that if one cannot love oneself, it is impossible to love anyone else.

To honour all of the Creation is to have RESPECT. Respect is the condition of being honoured.

COURAGE is to face the foe with integrity. Courage is the ability to face danger, fear, or changes with confidence and bravery.

HONESTY also means “righteousness”, be honest first with yourself – in word and action. Honesty is speaking and acting truthfully, and thereby remaining morally upright

To cherish knowledge is to know WISDOM. Wisdom is the ability to make decisions based on personal knowledge and experience.

HUMILITY is to know yourself as a sacred part of the Creation. Humility is being humble and not arrogant.

TRUTH is to know and understand all the seven teachings have given to us by the creator and to remain faithful to them.

Time Cherished

This work of art was commissioned as a gift for the Class of 2024. In Time Cherished, Emma Lafontaine depicts graduates leaving the familiarity of Northwestern Polytechnic’s campus, as they step into a bright and fulfilling future. Equipped and energized with new knowledge and skills, enduring bonds, and shared memories, NWP’s Wolfpack is heading towards new adventures with their post-secondary experience firmly imprinted in their heads and hearts.

Born in Timmins, Ontario, Emma Lafontaine eventually moved to Alberta’s Peace Country and grew up in Grande Cache. Captivated by art since childhood and with a fondness for India ink and gouache, she is currently studying Visual Arts and Design at Northwestern Polytechnic. Her work continues to impress and has been featured at the Glass Gallery and Year End Student Exhibition on the Northwestern Polytechnic campus (2023-24), the Beaverlodge Art and Culture Centre (2024), and the Grande Prairie Stompede Arts and Cultural Expo (2022-23).
