DISPENSER TYPES

There are several types of material dispensers available, the most common types being positive displacement and timed. Each type has it's perks, but when it comes to precise dispensing, we strongly recommend the use of positive displacement dispensers. Unlike timed dispensers, the exact volume of material dispensed doesn't vary from shot to shot, no matter the external variants (such as temperature or viscosity). Positive displacement dispensers utilize a piston, or something similar to push out material equivalent to the volume of the piston, ensuring an accurate dispense every time. Timed dispensers will dispense for a set amount of time, but the exact volume can be impacted by external variants.

Recommended:

Positive Displacement Dispensers

Positive displacement dispensers can be adjusted and set once. Their positive displacement piston stroke dispenses like a syringe. Positive displacement dispensers can be trusted to repeatedly dispense identical amounts regardless of external temperature or material viscosity.

Nearly all GP Reeves dispensers utilize some sort of positive displacement dispensing. Many dispensers utilize a piston that works by transferring material under pressure through self-actuated or powered valves into and out of a measuring chamber. The powered piston controls the transfer volume and the transfer (dispense) is directly proportional to the piston area and piston travel. Our RotoMeter series utilizes various types of rotational dispensing in the form of gear, peristaltic, and progressive screw pumps.

Not Recommended:

Timed Dispensers

Timed dispensers function like a faucet and require frequent re-adjustment and constant monitoring. Timed dispensers cannot be trusted to repeatedly dispense identical amounts.

Timed dispensers work by moving material under pressure through an “Off-On” valve that is opened and closed by a solenoid valve controlled by a PLC or electronic timer. Pressure regulators and adjustable orifices are sometimes added to control flow rate.

Material's flow characteristics are often unpredictable meaning timed dispensers are not capable of accuracy and repeatability. The exact volume of how much is on the part is an unknown unless a weight is measured of each part before and after.

APPLICATIONS

We have been spent over half a century perfecting material dispensing. Our experience ranges over variety of industries and environments. Not only do we produce dependable and reliable dispensing systems, but we also engineer and build custom equipment to meet your specific needs, no matter the industry. Prior to using our equipment, customers are often applying materials by hand which yields not only time loss but wasted material. Fully automated dispensing systems like the one below provide the highest level of precision expertly designed for your specific part.

Before – Messy – Wasted Material – Inconsistent Application

Our Application – Precise – Accurate Volume – Uniform Dots – Repeatable

The above photo shows a messy, brushed on application of grease to an HVAC part on the left, and what our custom nesting was able to accomplish on the right. Not only does the application look cleaner, but you can be assured that the precise amount of material is in the correct spot every time.

Our portfolio of work is constantly evolving, we would love to chat with you about your application!

SHEAR SENSITIVE ROTOMETER

Continuous Flow Progressive Cavity Pump

The RotoMeter series features fluid dispensers that are compatible with all types of adhesive and sealant materials including shear-sensitive, UV-cure, moisture-cure, and even 2K. The rotary design allows for single shot and continuous dispensing.

Why Rotary Dispensing from GP Reeves?

Rotary dispensers allow for a smooth continuous dispense, unlike piston-driven dispensers which require breaks to refill the dispense chamber. Plus, the small footprint increases the possible mounting locations. RotoMeters can be programmed to dispense at a variety of speeds and even change rate mid-dispense. This makes them especially effective in automated fluid dispensing processes.

Features & Benefits

– Compact: Continuous flow allows for larger dispense volumes without a larger dispenser.

– Easy Adjustment: Separately purchased controller makes volume and rate adjustments simple.

– Versatile: Series is ideal for both continuous flow and measured dispense applications.

RMS1K

These positive displacement dispensers can repeatably and accurately dispense a variety of materials regardless of viscosity or other external variants.

2K VALVES & ACCESSORIES

Appropriate accessories and valves are imperative to an accurate 2K material dispense. Ensuring that the two parts don’t interact before intended allows for an accurate mixing ratio, and prevents from unintended curing. All components except the mixing tubes are intended to be reused, the mixing tubes should be replaced regularly – actual time varies on application. If utilizing a shear sensitive RotoMeter, a dispense valve is not needed and the marrying block is integrated into the product, though varying sizes can be purchased.

Dispense Valves

– Independent operation of A side and B side – Materials are separate until the mixing tube – Options for up to a maximum of 600 PSI – Available with multiple valve options – Adaptors available to connect valves to any standard mixing tubes

Mixing Tube

Mixing tube nozzles (2KMT) are disposable products that ensure a uniform mixture of two component materials. Available in round and square diameters, these nozzles are available in varying inner diameters, outer diameters, lengths, folds, and ends. Tapered, stepped, and luer lock ends are offered to meet the need of most applications.

Mixing Shroud

Mixing Shrouds (2KS) ensure the mixing tubes are held in place as well as blocking out any ambient light that may cause premature curing. Shrouds are available for all sizes of mixing tubes. Nylatron, stainless steel, and aluminum are all options for shroud material.

Marrying Block

The marrying block (2KMB) is where the two components first interact. It is available in stainless steel or aluminum. The mixing shroud screws onto this block. Marrying blocks have two orifices that can be sized separately, ensuring an accurate mixing ratio.

Ratio Test Nozzles

Ratio test nozzles (2KRTN) should have the same orifice size as the marrying block. These are used to ensure the correct amount of each material is entering the mixing tube. Nozzles can be made out of plastic (disposable), stainless steel, or aluminum.
