Introduction
ABOUT US Since 1971, GP Reeves dispensing systems have helped thousands of companies improve their products. We do this by accurately measuring and dependably depositing precise amounts of oil, grease, and other assembly fluids. We have customers in almost every manufacturing industry including aerospace, appliances, automotive, consumer goods, electronics, marine, medical, oil exploration, plastics, and rubber. These are some of the companies using our products:
4 | gpreeves.com
Applying grease, oil, sealants, and adhesives to parts during production is our specialty. We have dispensing equipment that is accurate, repeatable, reliable, and fast. Our patented air removal system finds and removes trapped air from grease before it is dispensed for increased quality in the production process. Here are some examples of products we have developed solutions for: – Drive Line Components – Power Window Regulators – Sunroof Rails – Seat Recliner – HVAC Housing – Liftgate Drive – Electrical Connector Cavities and Pins – Headrest Assembly – Electronic Board – Surgical Bed – Brake Components – Garage Door Opener Drive – Window Shade Motor – Suspension Components – Kitchen Appliances – Plumbing Accessories – Yard Maintenance Equipment
DISPENSER TYPES Recommended:
Timed dispensers function like a faucet and require frequent re-adjustment and constant monitoring. Timed dispensers cannot be trusted to repeatedly dispense identical amounts. Adding an expensive gear type flow meter causes very little improvement.
Positive displacement dispensers can be adjusted and set once. Their positive displacement piston stroke dispenses like a syringe. Positive displacement dispensers can be trusted to repeatedly dispense identical amounts.
Timed Dispensers
How Timed Dispensers Work:
Material under pressure is moved through an “Off-On” valve that is opened and closed by a solenoid valve controlled by a PLC or electronic timer. Pressure regulators and adjustable orifices are sometimes added to control flow rate.
Positive Displacement Dispensers
How Positive Displacement Dispensers Work
Material under pressure is transferred through self-actuated or powered valves into and out of a measuring chamber. A powered piston controls the transfer volume and the transfer (dispense) is directly proportional to the piston area and piston travel. When accuracy and repeatability are important, a positive displacement dispense system is necessary for materials that change viscosity, such as grease.
Due to the fact that some material's flow characteristics are unpredictable, timed dispensers are not capable of accuracy and repeatability. The volume of how much is on the part is an unknown unless a weight is measured of each part before and after.
GSS, GSSM and GPMD dispensers use a mechanical adjustment stock to adjust the volume. This generally works great for applications where the volume will be set and rarely adjusted. AA dispensers use a PLC to control the piston movement to allow the PLC to control and adjust the volume.

Introduction
SYSTEM SELECTION GUIDE Follow the steps below to select the components for a production dispensing system. Even though dispensers are customizable, you will need to know the volume for each dispense point. To choose components for a system, follow S-P-D-E. Select a Source, Preparation Items, the type and quantity of Dispensers required, and the End of Arm valves to apply material to the part.
Source
To use a dispenser, you first have to get the material out of the original container. Prior to selecting a pump or cartridge system, you should decide how the material will be purchased.
Preparation
Accessories – A ball valve to shut off the material supply ahead of the filter makes it easier to check and clean the filter element. A pressure gauge is needed to confirm the regulator setting.
Dispensers
Small Output – GSS or GSSM for dispensing amounts less than 0.066 cc (cubic centimeters). Medium Output LOW Pressure – GPMD11000 series for dispensing amounts from 0.02 cc to 6.20 cc. High Pressure – GPMD3000L series for dispensing amounts from .05 cc to 210 cc.
Filters – A filter is strongly recommended when pumping from a pail or barrel. Metal chips, foreign particles, and other debris can get into the material. If not filtered out, they can jam up the dispensing system, or even worse, they can become a part of your product.
Advanced – AA– PLC controlled dispensers capable of dispensing .02 to 700 cc while detecting and rejecting air. They dispense at controlled rates for even distribution.
Regulators – Some dispensers require a low pressure (less than 200 psi) supply. Because most air-operated pumps cannot supply material at low pressure, a pressure regulator or auto-fill reservoir is often needed to reduce the supply pressure to the dispenser(s).
Extrusion – We offer standard extrusion nozzles and custom engineered nozzles/nests.
End Points
Spray – Air assisted spray nozzles help deliver material to the part in “challenging” applications Dispense Valves – End of arm valves help prevent oozing at the nozzle tip for cleaner applications.

CONFIRMATION DEVICE BREAKDOWN We offer several different confirmation devices. These devices are suggested to be used as redundant verification only. Choosing one is based solely on what your specific project needs are. There are three main categories of confirmation devices: flow, pressure, and volume. Flow confirmation devices are the most common, and usually the most basic. Pressure confirmation devices are mid-level, and volume confirmation devices are generally the most advanced. It is important to remember that flow, pressure, and volume though related, are all different.
Accessories
Pressure Confirmation
What is it? Pressure confirmation devices confirm that pressure of a system is correct; they can be mounted anywhere in the system. We offer devices with different options that provide analog or discrete feedback in PNP or NPN formats with materials up to 3,500 PSI. The devices work two different ways: single set point devices send a signal if your pressure goes above/below your set pressure, whereas dual set point devices confirm that material pressure stays within a set range and will trigger a signal to the system/controller if the pressure is outside the range. When would you need it? These devices are used to confirm correct pressure of a system.
Volume Confirmation
What is it? Volume confirmation devices can measure the volume of material flowing through a device. We have two specialized devices that confirms volume, VMFG and UFS. These devices can be placed anywhere in a system, though they are usually used between the dispenser and the tooling. In addition to these devices, our AA dispensers are positive displacement dispenser with air removal and constant sensor positioning, which allows them to confirm volume as well. When would you need it? Volume confirmation is important if you want to confirm how much material flowed through a specific device. They should be used as confirmation devices opposed to control devices in a system.
Examples – Verification of material supply from pump/source – Confirmation of correct regulator settings – Cloggled nozzle in part nest – Detection of over-pressurization of nest parts
Examples – Redundant volume verification – Continuous flow applications – Measure flow before a dispenser block

PRESSURE CONFIRMATION Confirms proper pressure delivered to dispenser. These devices are designed to mount before a positive displacement dispenser to confirm proper pressure is being delivered to the dispenser.
Electronic Pressure Sensors How They Work: Uses dual set-points to confirm proper pressure in a set range. Advantages: – Can be used in low flow systems to monitor correct supply pressure – Simplistic functionality yields minimal nuisance faults
Accessories
Disadvantages: – Does not detect small air bubbles. – Does not sense flow, only pressure. – Should be fed with airless material.

MECHANICAL VOLUME CONFIRMATION
Accessories
Confirms volume of flow for critical dispense points. The VMFG devices are designed to mount between a dispenser and the tooling. They are used to confirm the proper volume was dispensed through the use of gears. VMFG Flow Meters How They Work: Material flows through precise gears to rotate them. The output is sent every time the gear is rotated. Each rotation is equivelant to a certain volume, depending on the model.
Volume confirmation can also be achieved with use of an AA dispenser. AA dispensers acheive volume confirmation through positive displacement dispensing coupled with our patented air removal system and constant position sensing. We offer pneumatic and electronic (servo) versions of these dispensers in a variety of sizes. See AA pages for more information.
Advantages: – Flow through device allows for continuous flow. – Inexpensive – Simple to adjust / program – Small footprint Disadvantages: – Does not work well with contamination – Does not work well finding small air bubbles – Less accurate with thin material – Has to be calibrated

ULTRASONIC FLOW SENSORS These devices are designed to be clamped around any nylon tubing in your system. Ultrasonic waves monitor material flow and the volume dispensed is shown on the controller.
Advantages
How They Work
Disadvantages
Two signals facing opposite directions are being simultaneously monitored. This allows readings to remain consistent regardless of external factors such as clogging or temperature changes.
– Does a great job finding small air bubbles – Does not disturb material flow – NPN or PNP capable – Requires calibration – Should not be used with material that has a separation percentage over 2% – Must be used with nylon tubing
