Choir Band Conductor

R O S E M A R Y OX E N F O R D GDTL, PGDipMustSt(Choral Conducting), BMus, AMusA

Rosemary is a dedicated conductor, vocalist, pianist and educator who is passionate about bringing joy and movement into the group singing experience. 2019 will see her 20th year working professionally as a conductor, having had the enviable position of teaching singers from 0 to 90 years in a range of early childhood, school, church, theatre, tertiary, community, and choral organisations, including Australian Youth Choir, Imogen Children's Chorale, and Griffith University. Currently serving as classroom music teacher and coordinating the choral program at Anglican Church Grammar School, she conducts and accompanies across 5 choirs, and thoroughly enjoys the challenge of engaging boys in singing.

String Orchestra Conductor

N I C H O L AS S T E FA N Nicholas Stefan first started playing violin at the age of five. He studied violin and viola performance under the tutelage of Mr Stephen Chin. Nicholas regularly performs in a number chamber ensembles on the Gold Coast, including playing violin with the Gold Coast Chamber Orchestra and viola with the Belcello Trio. Nicholas also has the privilege of being the current conductor the Gold Coast Youth Orchestra Junior Symphony, and former conductor of the Gold Coast Youth Orchestra String Orchestra. In 2007 Nicholas founded the Strings program at St Kevin's Catholic Primary School in Benowa. He commenced work at The Southport School in 2008 and currently holds the position of Co-ordinator of Strings.

Concert Band Conductor

JAN HEWERDINE Jan Hewerdine started his music career as a musician in the Australian Regular Army. As a multi woodwind instrumentalist, he has been a first call doubler for many musicals that have been held in QPAC. As an arranger, he has had the privilege of writing for such Australian rock and pop luminaries as Glenn Shorrock, Doug Parkinson, Wendy Matthews and Julie Anthony. In addition, his compositions have been performed as far afield as the University of Cambridge, Germany and the USA. Jan holds a Master of Music Studies from the Qld Conservatorium of Music and is a graduate of the University of New England and the Defence Force School of Music. 2

VICKI SARGENT This concert is dedicated to a long term staff member at GT. Vicki Sargent was born to this world on September 17, 1962 and entered eternal life on October 28, 2007 following a fifteen year battle with breast cancer. After attending Lourdes Hill and three years at teachers' college, Vicki entered her first and final place of employment at GT in 1983. Vicki had passion for the Arts and for Education. This passion and competence established her as a leading Visual Arts teacher. In 2001, she was appointed the first female member of the College Leadership Team – an achievement of which she was immensely proud. In the role of Director of Culture, Vicki had the responsibility of overseeing all co-curricular activities outside the classroom that was not sport related. Vicki left her charismatic mark on the hearts and minds of many young men in her care because she was able to do the simple but arduous task of seeing the world and responding to it with incredible energy and insight. Her influence has shaped the future of so many old boys and the memories held dear will never be erased. Her vision in cultural pursuits for boys elevated not only the Gregory Terrace community to many artistic and cultural pinnacles, but also the extended GPS and CIC schools. We, therefore, dedicate this annual concert to Vicki who led “An Extraordinary Life”.
