Welcome to the GPS Centenary Gymnastics Championships. In 2018, The Great Public Schools’ Association of Queensland (GPS) celebrates its centenary, providing a special opportunity to celebrate 100 years of the GPS ‘spirit of fellowship’. Interschool gymnastics competitions were held between participating GPS schools even before the GPS was officially formed, and Gymnastics was one of the very first competitions introduced by the newly-formed GPS Association in 1918. This year talented athletes will compete in the historic GPS Centenary Gymnastics, which will be graciously hosted once again at Brisbane Grammar School’s excellent ICS Gymnasium. We look forward to an exceptional day of competition and The GPS Association is delighted to wish all athletes well at this historic GPS 100 event.

Student Reflection “GPS Gymnastics was a constant, positive driver throughout my time at Brisbane Boys' College. So much so, the sport has remained a large part of my life, even as an Old Boy. Participation in GPS Gymnastics taught me some of the most important character traits a person can possess - patience, determination, resilience, understanding and grit to name just a few. In addition to this, it helped me establish the foundation for a constructive, productive, and driven work ethic. This manifests itself in every task I fulfil on any given day. This work ethic has served me well beyond the schooling arena, and continues to pay dividends in all that I do.” Joshua Clark Old Boy 2013, Brisbane Boys’ College 1

It is all about constantly pushing limits and boundaries and learning the full potential of your body. T H E J I M YO U N G C U P contributed to the school community as a Housemaster with Mawson House. He was a very gifted athlete and gymnast in his time, and this was his chief area of interest and expertise. Jim is re-membered as a gentle, caring and extremely conscientious man with a great love of language and literature, and a delightful sense of fun, and that his courage and determination were ďŹ rm foundations of his character. He died in 1994.

The award for the overall Champion School in the GPS Gymnastics Championships is calculated on Division 1 "A", Division 2 "A" and Division 3 "A" Team competition aggregate. This team score is made up of the top 3 aggregate scores from each apparatus. The Cup is named after Jim L. Young who was a sta member of the Anglican Church Grammar School for 40 years - 1952 to 1991. Jim was originally appointed Director of Physical Education, but in his time taught English, Latin, Mathematics, Social Science, and Physiology. In addition to this he further
