HARVEST VILLAGE A LIVING & LEARNING CAMPUS FOR ALL AGES PREPARED BY GRACE THOMPSON
HARVEST VILLAGE MASTERPLAN
A SCHOOL & A RETIREMENT VILLAGE? This project fundamentally aims to combine a secondary school and retirment village. But is also offers the opportunity to ask other more important questions such as: Why do we separate the you and the old in the first place? What are the negative effects of doing so? What if we celebrated life at all ages? Could we create a community where people of all ages can meaninfully connect? Could it work in a regional community? I believe it can work and to help me figure out how, I enlisted the brains trust...my family

HARVEST VILLAGE.
Much of the informal as well as the formal social life of ‘Smalltown’ occurs in public places: down the street, at sporting events, clubs, pubs and churches… In ‘Smalltown’ you go to the community rather than the community comes to you…
I want to create a community which is like a small in its own right. It’s not a one size fit’s all but a Village that allows people independence and choice. A community which encourages people to enjoy fulfilling and happy lives, socialising, staying active, pursuing hobbies and continuing to play a role in the community. An agricultural and vocational school which seeks to inspire each person to be optimistic, hope-filled and resilient in a dynamic rural environment, so they become proactive young people who will transform their communities.
So avoiding marginalisation requires the maintenance of autonomy and an active social life. (Dempsey, 1993: 66) AGRICULTURE

PUB
Architecturally speaking it is also inspired by the small towns surrounding Toowoomba. There are similar patterns of wide streets, single story commercial tenancies, generous parks and always a good pub on the main street. This design takes the ‘small town’ pattern and likewise bends it to create something new, but familiar at the same time.
