Obituary
Marie Samene Eugene was born to Elifis and Marcia Joseph on February 21, 1938 in a ville called Palmiste a’ Vin located in Leogane, Haiti. She accepted Christ as her personal Lord and Savior in 1950. She married the love of her life, Sénat Occelus on April of 1972. In March of 1985 she emigrated to the United States searching for a better life. She lived in Brooklyn, New York until her family chose Miami, Florida as their permanent home in 1992. As a strong, courageous, independent, intelligent woman, she worked arduously as a babysitter and housekeeper for many years. Her love for children radiated at all times. She was a strong believer in family and maintained a close relationship with her siblings. This joy led her to help her brother, Elve, raise his three children....Gabrielle, Mario and Debbie. She was her happiest when selflessly caring for others. Many grew to love and respect her, friends and family alike.
Samene found her church family, Pentecostal Church of Miami, lead by Rev. Wilner and Naomie Prudent. As a devoted member of Siloe, Samene served the church faithfully through ministry. She participated in the Ladies Choir, Women’s Usher Board, Housekeeping ministry and was a member of Sunday school (class Deborah). She also loved participating in fellowship activities. We can always recall her saying “Ki moun ki pral peye pou mwen ale nan Holyland?” She loved her church and vowed to never leave until God call her home.
In March of 2000, she was diagnosed with cancer. She underwent chemotherapy, a single mastectomy and went through remission. Unfortunately, the cancer returned in 2015. Throughout this journey she always remained positive, trusting that God was in control. She used the
