The Centennial Plan

Graded - The American School of S達o Paulo

The Centennial Plan As Graded approaches its 100th anniversary, it has embarked on an ambitious plan to invest in strategic priorities that honor the school’s history, safeguard its position as one of the best in the world, and advance its legacy. Strategic priority areas include the: Excellence in Teaching Initiative, Graded Scholar Program, and Graded Campus Project. Since October 2011, Graded has raised nearly R$23 million in gifts from parents, alumni, corporations and foundations towards this historic effort. This is an extraordinary time for our school and a tremendous opportunity for us to get involved to impact the entire Graded community today and tomorrow.

Excellence in Teaching Initiative A top priority for the Centennial Plan is to improve student learning through recruiting, developing and retaining the best teachers in the world. Since opening its doors in 1920, Graded has attracted top educators seeking a community that is inspiring and intellectually challenging. But now, with rising costs of living in S達o Paulo, Graded must secure new financial resources to support the needs of its students and their teachers. In 2014, the Garfinkel Family made a significant gift to launch the Excellence in Teaching Initiative to ensure that Graded continues to be a premier educational resource for many years to come.

Giving Opportunities Parents, alumni, corporations and foundations can name the following endowment funds. These gifts serve as permanent investments in the school that continue in perpetuity. Assets of each endowment fund are invested and a percentage of the value is spent each year, while any remaining earnings are used to build the market value so funds continue to grow. Gifts can be paid over five years. Faculty Position R$3,000,000 Partial Faculty Position R$1,000,000-R$2,000,000 Retention Fund R$1,000,000 Recruitment Fund R$500,000 21st Century Learning/Development Fund R$500,000 Research Fund R$500,000 Educator Speaker Series R$250,000 Teacher Support Fund R$100,000

Graded Scholar Program A pillar of the Centennial Plan is to expand the merit-based scholarship program to increase diversity and raise intercultural awareness throughout the community. In May 2014, Jorge Paulo Lemann and the Lemann Foundation made a transformative gift to launch the new Graded Scholar Program to develop global leaders among economically-disadvantaged gifted Brazilian students by providing them access to one of the best international schools in the world. These students will serve as role models, mentors, and contribute to Graded and their own communities in meaningful ways. As a result, the Graded Scholar Program will inspire excellence among all students and provide a unique perspective that is essential in fostering engaged, ethical citizens.
