MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THE PHILOSOPHY OF THE STAG/B75 ACADEMY
UNIQUE LEARNING METHODOLOGY:
Everything we do at STAG/B75 Academy is based on a proven educational system inspired by the research of educationalist John Hattie and informed by the practical experience of education expert and B75 founder Lars Rokkjaer. No other table tennis camps have this powerful methodology.
Hattie’s research shows that the rate at which students learn can increase to more than four times the average if their learning is made visible. Visible learning happens when each player knows:
1. What is my goal?
2. Where am I now in relation to my goal?
3. What do I need to do to make progress?
4. How should I measure my progress towards the goal?
PLAYERS TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR OWN DEVELOPMENT:
This is why we say that the goal of the STAG/B75 Academy is that each player will learn to be his or her own coach. Progress happens faster when players take responsibility for their own development. At STAG/B75 Academy, players are encouraged to design their own drills, as questions, and find out what techniques and strategies work best for them.

GROUP LEARNING ENVIRONMENT:
When players take responsibility for their own development it also creates a highly effective group learning environment. All players are encouraged to collaborate, sharing what they know and learn with their training group. This is possible because the coaches foster an atmosphere of openness and trust, with no fear. Lars Rokkjaer has said “Fear is the opposite of learning”. So, at STAG/B75 Academy everyone is listened to with respect and all opinions are valued. Negative self-judgment is suspended because it interferes with the observations needed to learn. A loss or missed shot is an opportunity to improve, nothing more.
THE ROLE OF THE COACHES:
Coaches at STAG/B75 Academy support this philosophy by constantly asking themselves “What was my impact during this session? Did the players make progress towards their personal goals? What methods were most effective for each player, and which least?”. Of course, the coaches are technically experts, with many years of experience, and they share all of those gifts and experience with their players. But at STAG/B75 Academy more is required from the coaches. Coaches are also expected to see the training through their players’ eyes. They do this by using a technique called a reflecting dialogue during the regular group discussions that are a vital part of the camp system and schedule.
CHECK-IN AND CHECK-OUT:
Before every training session players and coaches gather for a check-in, and afterwards a check-out. Check-in readies everyone to get the most out of the work they will do in that session. It relates the training to each player’s goals and connects the work done yesterday to that in the future. Check-out is a time for feedback from coaches to players, players to coaches, and between the players themselves.
